Update on Men's game - 0:0 |
Update on female match - Cameroon 2:0 Nigeria |
Lordave:Both matches, Nigerian men against Burkina Faso and the Nigerian women against Cameroon kick-off at 6.30pm today. |
As if he has a choice. Mikel is the best defensive midfielder we have. On top of this he plays to Coaches instruction, he can control the game and he is a leader. Victor Moses is also a top class winger. Maybe in a few years time Moses Simon will replace him. Oliseh and his selection cost us two points in Tanzania. It was a game we have no business drawing. Now we must get at least a 4 points from the two Egypt games to stand any chance of qualifying. If we are struggling to draw Tanzania, then we really need help. I hope this is the last we see of Haruna in an Eagle shirt. A man that cannot hold a place in the worst team in Russian league, hardly played last season and the season before that, yet managed to earn a start.is disgraceful. And Ikeme is no Enyeama. People should check his stats at Wolves. He had a great showing last Saturday and also had a good back line. But he is not in the same class as Enyeama. Neither is he consistent like Enyeama. |
CFCman:It is now 3:0 |
emerged01:3 matches honeymoon ?? By that time, we will be out of CHAN2016, AFCON 2017 and Russia 2018. There is no honeymoon in this business my friend. If Oliseh wants a honeymoon, he should take his wife. This is a MUST WIN game. |
I dont know who drew up this list, Pinnick or Oliseh? What is Haruna doing there? The guy could not even make the bench of his team in their last game in Russia. He was clubless most of last season and playing second fiddle the season before that at Kiev. Esiti, Sokari, Ogu, or Babatunde are better options. Why the rush to bring back Emenike? It will have been better for him and Nigeria to let him settle down at Al Ain first and return to form. This over-reliance on Emenike is partly the reason Keshi lost his job. Emenike should have been dropped immediately the 2014 World Cup ended. Dropping Ighalo, Mikel and Aaron Samuel (although i suspect Aaron is injured) seems to me like not wanting the team to look like Keshi's team. Do you cut off your nose so you can spite your face. Ighalo is more likely to score than even Ujah. Why experiment with the Tanzania game where we need a clear victory? This list just shows that Oliseh is playing to the NFF gallery. Dear Coach Oliseh, you will not succeed by pandering to Pinnick and the NFF. See how they treated Manu Garba and Okon. They will throw you under the bus the moment the road gets rough. You will soon find out why the successful Super Eagles coaches don't bother with the NFF. They play for the fans and the flag!! |
A large number of Nigerian football supporters have spent the last 3-4 years attacking Mikel Obi. Calling him names just because he plays to the instructions of his coaches. He is a very disciplined Midfielder and this statement by Mourinho confirms Mikel quality and class. He is the Super Eagles captain-in-waiting. Mikel has performed consistently for Chelsea for close to 10 years as he has for Nigeria the last 4-5 years. I hope the insults towards this hard-working young man will NOW stop. |
So all along NFF was engaging in exactly what they accused and sacked Keshi for. They were talking to Oliseh and putting him on standby all these while although they were contracted to Keshi.... Indeed there is God!!! Some people say things like the AFCON triumph got to his head. He is one of only two Africans have won it both as Coach and team Captain since football reached Africa. Does anyone question General Obasanjo for his arrogance being only one of two men to ever rule Nigeria twice? What is biting most people is Keshi's success and record - Coached Nigeria for 3 years, in those 3 years won AFCON, got Bronze in CHAN, qualified for the World Cup and got to the last 16. There are just 3 stand out Super Eagles Coaches in Nigeria based on trophies won, Otto Gloria, Clemens Westerhof and Stephen Keshi. Keshi (the only Nigerian of the 3 men) equaled and did better than Gloria by qualifying for the World Cup. He equaled and did better than Westerhof by that CHAN bronze. Facts as they say are sacred!!! |
So all along NFF was engaging in exactly what they accused and sacked Keshi for. They were talking to Oliseh and putting him on standby all these while although they were contracted to Keshi.... Indeed there is God!!! I wish Oliseh the best in the job. He is the best in class in his generation of Nigerian footballers - skills, brains and intellect on and off the pitch! Also was great captain of the Super Eagles. The same way Keshi equaled and bettered Westerhof's 5 year performance in 3 years, I hope Oliseh can do better than Keshi in 3 years - sort out our Midfield, take us to gold or silver at CHAN 2016, win AFCON 2017 and take us past last 16 of 2018 World Cup! Anything less, then all the Keshi haters should (according to Chief Zebrudaya) keep their mouths in the permanent position of, SHUT UP!! Go Super Eagles!!! |
dabossman:If Kaduna is safe, why is this panel being set up to look at security problems in the State? http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/agwai-heads-c-ttee-to-find-solutions-to-kaduna-killings/212646/ |
entparrot:http://uk.soccerway.com/players/asamoah-gyan/624/ Check his profile, he was struggling the 2nd season |
sammied:http://www.totalsportek.com/football/chelsea-player-salaries/ My dear friend, it is the 9ja syndrome, talk and abuse people first without checking your facts. |
ROSSIKE:But Asamoah Gyan has been there for close to 3 years now and still performing for the Black Stars. Mikel is making the move primarily to save his Eagles career. The argument about greed is not sound, he has been on well over $100,000 per week at least for the last 5 years. He hung around the UK to get his British passport. He now wants a team where he can express himself. Like Asamoah, he will be able to revive his career. Remember that Asamoah too was struggling in Sunderland about 4 seasons ago till he made the move to Al Ain. Please guys lets cut this guy some slack, love him or hate him Mikel is one of the very best and consistent performers we have in Super Eagles at the moment. |
The question for all those complaining on this thread is this, if you were Keshi, you sign a job contract and your employers start to sabotage you and make those who want your position to be your supervisor, what will you do? Why should he not look elsewhere? A man signs a contract, his employers continue to treat him like the enemy. Other African countries are putting together quality friendlies for their team, our NFF is putting together disciplinary committee to punish the coach and the captain. Our next game is in 10 weeks time. All they are talking about is comments made about Kaduna, the same Kaduna where PMB was almost killed about a year ago. What do people expect Keshi to do that he has not done? Apologise, he has! Keep a low profile, he is! Don't talk to the press, he is not! Respect the NFF, he is! Yet they are using clowns like Emmanuel Babayaro and Garba Lawal to attack him and his team by proxy. They now want Okocha to be reading games for him, the same Okocha that was trying desperately to bring Sam Allardyce to coach Super Eagles. If you were Keshi, will you not do the same? |
freshdude99:I hope this is not the beginning of the usual attack on Keshi. He won AFCON, they dismantle his coaching crew, they disrupted his team for confederations cup by refusing to pay their bonuses so they will not excel. He wins bronze in CHAN, they are complaining about his dressing room team talk, as if it is not up to a coach to decide how to motivate his team. They qualify for world cup, NFF starts the campaign for a foreign coach. They ensure his world cup preparation is hampered by inadequate support and funding. Each time Keshi performs, they seem to be at hand to create some crisis for him. Why didn't they trouble Manu Garber, why is Siasia immune from their criticism. Here is a Siasia who has had over seven months to put an U23 team together, yet to date he has no team. Why couldn't the technical director advise Manu or Amuneke. They are using this attack on Keshi to deflect blame from them for their gross failure in the Women world cup and the U20 world cup. We get knocked out of 2 global tournaments in 24 hours in games and situation that we should have done better than we did. Why can't NFF start with that investigation and allow Keshi and his team enjoy their sweet victory over Chad. |
Daninya11:Please forget Lukman who cannot make his team in Kiev. We might as well be rooting for Ideye. The attacking (box to box) midfield position will eventually be taken by Ihenacho. Ramon Azeez is not in the same class. |
The important thing is that we won and have 3 points. At this time of the year, it is difficult to get players to perform after a long season in Europe. There is no doubt that Ighalo, Leon, Ekong, Rabiu and Madu have the Super Eagles hunger. The next game in September will be a different matter. Awoniyi, Moses, Success and Ihenacho will get their chance. Mikel will be back, Musa will be in better form. Well done to the Super Eagles today. |
sultan003:Both Keshi and the captain Enyeama, complained about moving this game to Kaduna. It was NFF's decision. The game could have been played in Lagos. |
Reading the contributions in this thread, apart from folks like me who love the Super Eagles no matter what and support Keshi, there are two other groups of people; One group are so worried about the surprise losses of the flying eagles and the falcons, so deep down they are scared the SE will follow suit. They are talking down and abusing both Keshi and the SE as a defence mechanism for themselves. The other group are angry that the SE will win today and reverse the losing trend of the last 2 days, they are angry that it is the Keshi that they dislike that will bring smiles to Nigeria today. People, the Super Eagles belongs to all of us, let us give them our support. Their victory is our victory. When we qualify, the flag that will fly in Gabon in 2017 is our Nigerian flag, not Keshi's flag and not Mikel's flag. |
Dear Nairalanders, The local based team only came together around the 24th of May. Most of them have never played together. Even the Coaching crew are just getting to know themselves. Yet people are already abusing the coach. In this age of social media when everyone with a device is an expert and has an opinion, we must at least try to get our facts right before we start making comments and judgments. Even the choice of players is not the best available because other National teams like the U20 and U23 who also are in competitions and qualifiers at this time are holding on to players that could have added quality to this home based Super Eagles. In spite of all this, with just 3 or 4 days camping, they manage a draw against a standing team. Only in our present day Nigeria is this a failure. People let us be careful that the current national environment of bias and haste to judge, criticize and condemn does not pollute our sports. Sports is NOT politics. It is real people using their gifts and physical endowment to bring joy and glory to the Nation. |
That is Nigeria for you! Can anyone discuss Nigerian football in the 80's and 90's without mentioning Keshi. He stood for players rights against the FA in his time, helped many to get contracts abroad, a leader amongst his peers. There is also much to talk about in his role on the Nigerian bench - Keshi has been a part of the coaching staff for the Nigerian national team since 2001 as head coach for the Flying Eagles at the 2001 African Youth Championship, both he and Amodu qualified Nigeria for the 2002 World Cup, he went on to coach Togo and Mali between 2004 and 2011 before returning to coach Nigeria. But we live in a social media Nigeria that has no regard for history, for facts and for data, only soundbites. puyaca: |
Siasia should check this scoreline out and do likewise to Zambia this weekend. |
Who will Captain the Super Eagles?? No Enyeama, no Mikel, no Ambrose, no Echejile, no Emenike and no Ideye or even Ejide. |
joseph1013:Siasia is not serious. He is totally unprofessional. The U20 world cup starts in 8 weeks time, those boys should be preparing for that not being distracted with U23. Manu Garba and the FA should not allow this. Siasia has been assembling this U23 team since late last year, they played friendlies, super 6, etc. still he cannot come up with a team. The time his friends at the NFF have given him, no other team handler has enjoyed the same. The best they ever gave Keshi was 4 weeks to prepare for the 2013 AFCON. Siasia and Amoo have had over 5 months and they still have NO team. |
Tosinayoko:My friend, when the Flying Eagles won the Cup last Sunday where were your 'gods'? Please lets face facts, how can a National team be WITHOUT a Coach for NINE months and expect the team to do well? Even Amokachi who handled the team today does not know whether he is in or out. The people responsible for this mess is the NFF. Not the players, not the Coaches and definitely not the Government. Does it take NINE months to appoint a Coach or to confirm a Coach? |
solokay:This Super Eagles have only been together for 24 hours. Please cut them some slack. On the other hand, the Uganda team has beaten both Ghana and Guinea in the last 6 months. They have been together with their Coach since 2013. We have been disorganized since the World Cup ended last June. Meaning our dear Super Eagles has been in limbo for over 9 months. No coach. No team. No direction. The team that played Yemen and CIV in January is different from this one. Typical Nigeria, we play politics with everything and think that the rest of the World will wait for us. Why are we surprised? I am sure we will nick a goal but this is yet another pointer to the lack of direction in the NFF. |
The Super Falcons left Nigeria yesterday afternoon to arrive in Bamako this afternoon on Ethiopian Airline. Imagine they have to first travel east for over 5 hours to Addis Ababa, overnight at the airport then travel another 7 hours back west to Bamako. Meaning they will have spent a whole day traveling when they could have used either the Togolese airline or the Ivorian carrier and be there in less than 6 hours. They have spent 12 hours (9pm on Wednesday -9am on Thursday) waiting time at Addis Ababa doing nothing. Will Germany, England or even South Africa subject their squad to this? Yet we want to do well in the World Cup. Imagine African Champions hanging around Addis Ababa airport for 12 hours waiting for flight. Just because someone in the FA wants to save money which they will end up squandering on their own comforts. The girls will be tired, stressed out and unlikely to train this evening. If the game is tomorrow afternoon, then it will be really really sad. If the NFF knew this was the incompetent travel plan they had why did they not allow them to set out earlier maybe on Monday or Tuesday? If the girls fail to perform in Bamako, this same FA will be the ones calling for the head of the Coach. If the Coach dares complain they will start to frustrate him and his crew. We have an incompetent FA whose expertise is playing politics and spending dollars on themselves. |
http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/sam-allardyce-nigeria-qpr-sunderland-if-they-want-me--id-like-to-finish-job-at-west-ham-10121717.html Sam Allardyce At the last count I believe I’ve been linked with three jobs this week: Sunderland, QPR and Nigeria! The first thing I have to say is that, in case no one noticed, I still have a job here at West Ham. The season is far from over, there are 27 points at stake and it’s time we began helping ourselves to some of them. I understand why the speculation is there, of course I do. Everyone knows my contract with the club expires at the end of June and, as yet, nothing further has been decided. I would stress that, providing everyone is happy, I would like to stay at West Ham. They are a great club, moving in the right direction and a lot is now in place for sustained improvement. I suppose, if a new contract has been signed and sealed, my name wouldn’t have been mentioned in connection with any other club or job. While the owners and I have always been comfortable with waiting until the end of the season, the downside has always been that it fuels speculation. Are they going to give him one? Are they going to get rid of him? Does somebody else want him because he is out of contract so there is no compensation? Finding a new manager revolves around the whole package — how good is the manager, what are the financial implications and what is the compensation? A bubble of rumour and speculation is created and, really, it’s one we could all do without, particularly when one short, unsubstantiated tweet can quickly become ‘fact’ to a lot of people. I presume the Nigeria connection, for example, is because Jay Jay Okocha, who played for me at Bolton, and is now involved in football in that country. For me, Jay Jay is a top man, one of the best I’ve met and Nigeria’s equivalent to David Beckham in his stature and the esteem he commands in his homeland. Here’s a small sample of the man. He can speak four different languages, he was seen as flamboyant on the field of play but off it he is very calm, collected, family orientated and quite a religious person. He also has had the intelligence to learn valuable lessons from wherever life has taken him, from Nigeria to Germany, Turkey, France and then England. I do not believe that any of this speculation about my future has affected the West Ham players, not based on their performances anyway. A lot of the same lads went through something similar two years ago when my contract came up for renewal. The owners quite rightly wanted to see how things went in the Premier League. They know now we massively over-achieved in the first season back, finishing 10th. Look at the three who came up last season — they’re all in danger of going back down. The important thing for me and the players is to start winning games again, beginning tomorrow against Sunderland, who have Dick Advocaat in charge for the first time. I’ve been in similar positions in my career and it’s not easy. The first thing I would do going into a club at this time is watch the players train, see what abilities they possess. At home later, watch recordings of recent matches — that will tell you a lot just about where the problems lie. I don’t think it’s too difficult to work out that Sunderland haven’t been scoring enough goals, even though their draw ratio — 14 — is the highest in the Premier League, the inference being that if Gus Poyet had turned six of those into wins, there wouldn’t have been a problem. My first managerial experience of trying to turn things around was at Blackpool, where it was successful. I made the mistake then of applying a similar formula when I went to Notts County and it didn’t work. That taught me a lesson. Clubs and personnel are different and you need different answers. At Blackburn it was all about reassuring the players that they had the ability to win Premier League games. As with most things in life, let alone sport, the psychology is all-important. I remember taking the players away to Gleneagles in Scotland and being criticised for it. My answer was that the optimum time to take a break is when things are not going well and the pressure is growing. If everything is fine, then there’s no need to change anything. |
nedu2000:An established mid to lower table (very average) Premiership manager. He coached Newcastle, Bolton, West Ham and Blackburn. He will be a very expensive bad choice for the NFF. However, I am certain that the Government/National Sports Commission will not approve the engagement. If the NFF did not spend the time between January 2013 and November 2014 (almost 2 years!!!) trying to sabotage, embarass and disrupt Keshi, if they had given him the support required, all this nonsense about Big Sam will not even arise. They claimed they could not afford to keep Okpala, they could not afford for Keshi and Amokachi to travel out to watch and monitor players, they could not afford for them to undertake FIFA refreshers, they could not even afford to pay their salaries on time but are now prepared to pay Allardyce at least $3,000,000 a year!! Are we really serious? Maybe it is foreign football administrators we need to run our football. Administrators who can achieve great results at a budget. Nigerian football supporters should be wake up! |
The Ghanaians should just bury their heads in shame. Even with Avram Grant sitting on their bench as Technical Adviser, they still cannot beat what is really our 2nd option team. If you introduce Ihenacho, Ndidi, Moses Simon, Success and Yahaya into this side then we are talking. They can abuse all they like on this forum, the fact is they are not playing well enough. Why did they have to bring Avram Grant for a job Sellas Tetteh has been doing so well? Colonial mentality!! |
This man Allardyce, has had every chance in the English league to win something with 4 Premier league sides since 1999. He has been given space, chance, respect, time, etc. Yet, he has won nothing. A very average coach. Will he come to Nigeria for the paltry $300,000 per annum they are offering Keshi? When he can remain in the UK with his current package including newspaper deals, etc of 10 times that amount. By claiming they don't have money, the NFF has effectively boxed themselves into corner. There are only 3 candidates available to them apart from Keshi; 1. Siasia 2. Amokachi 3. Shuaibu The Government will not allow them to bring in a foreign coach if they are going to pay him more than what they offering Keshi except that coach is BETTER than Keshi. Meaning the coach must have won a Continental trophy and got to the last 16 of the World Cup. |
?? By that time, we will be out of CHAN2016, AFCON 2017 and Russia 2018. There is no honeymoon in this business my friend. If Oliseh wants a honeymoon, he should take his wife. This is a MUST WIN game.
