Stephen O Keshi STILL the greatest and most successful Nigerian or foreigner to coach the Super Eagles. AFCON 2013 GOLD, CHAN 2014 BRONZE, LAST 16 IN 2014 WORLD CUP. Of the 18 -23 players that qualified us for the next 2018 World Cup, 15 of them were in the team Keshi built between 2012 and 2015. At least 6 of our starting 11 at the next World Cup will come from this group. Yet during his time, all he got from the NFF and most Nigerian supporters was abuse and disdain. Like the man he was, he saw beyond his time and endured the abuse, but stuck to his plans and vision. A true legend of the game in our time. |
Ghana 3:1 Kenya |
profmathsland:Keshi's Super Eagles beat Ethiopia 2:1 away on a Sunday (13th October 2013) on their way to qualifying for Brazil 2014. |
So it is okay for the USA Justice department to investigate, extradite, arraign FIFA officials? It is Okay for the Switzerland authorities to publicly arrest FIFA officials from their hotels in Geneva during a major FIFA meeting. Yet it is not okay for a Nigerian Court of Law to determine if in the course of an NFF activity, an offence has been committed. Double standards!! Before folks start shouting CAS (Court of Arbitration in Sports), why didn't they make the same claim to the US regarding the investigations and arrest due to criminality in the award of past and future World Cups? If CAS could not replace the Swiss Police or the US Justice Department in the FIFA scandals investigations and arrests, why should it replace the Nigerian Police and Courts in this matter of fraud in Nigerian Football. In spite of all these, I am afraid that because Sports is at the bottom of the priorities of the present Nigerian Government FIFA may get away with their double standards again. They cannot try this with Countries in Europe, America or even Asia. |

At such a short notice, our best bet is Stephen Keshi. The present core of the Super Eagles are the boys Keshi put together in 2012/2013. He will be able to gel them together and get them to perform against Egypt. All the so-called bench warmers are now playing first team football in the best leagues in Europe. The team Keshi was trying to build then have now come good. Enyeama, Echjiele (Oshaniwa), Oboabona, Omeruo, Ambrose (Balogun), Mikel, Onazi, Musa, Emenike, Ideye, Victor Moses, etc. |

The reality is that Nigeria MUST win their game against Algeria. If we play a draw, Algeria will top the group and if Egypt beats Mali by ONE GOAL, they will be second. If by more than a goal and we draw, then Egypt tops the group and Algeria second. Our group is the stronger one and whoever will go through on Saturday MUST win their game. If Egypt wins they go through. If Nigeria win we go through. If Algeria wins they go through. Since only two countries will go through, then only 2 of the 3 wins I listed will matter. WE HAVE TO WIN. Otherwise, it becomes 'kalo kalo'. The Egypt:Mali game is almost predictable and in fact, if we could not beat Egypt, why should we expect Mali to do it for us?. And knowing African football politics which tends to favor North African teams, Egypt will lie, steal and cheat on Saturday to win their game. We thus REALLY have no choice than to win our game. |
Nigeria 1 : Egypt 0 |
6.53pm - RED CARD!!!! Dear me!!! It's gone from bad to worse for the visitors. Dlamini who was booked only a few minutes ago lunges into another tackle and gets a second yellow. They've got to keep their cool here Swaziland. |
6.50pm - What a respite for Nigeria as they score their second. It's route one football but Nigeria won't care as they now have a leg in the group stages. The goal comes from a free-kick on the right and Ambrose gets behind the defence and taps past the brilliant Gwebu. Match set and done! from Super Sports |
6.49pm - GOAL!!! NIGERIA 2-0 SWAZILAND (EFE AMBROSE) |
6.45pm - SAVE!!!! Put a fork in it!!!! Absolute top drawer save from Ikeme who has to stretch full length to keep Njabulo's curling effort out. The goalkeeper hasn't had much to do all afternoon but shows he's still on his toes as that ball came in. Brilliant. |
6.43pm - NIGERIA 1-0 SWAZILAND As expected Moses has been carried is carried off the pitch and it looks like Oliseh has to make a quick substitution as Nigeria are currently playing with ten men on the pitch. |
6.40pm - NIGERIA 1-0 SWAZILAND There's just a little over ten minutes to the end of regulation time at the Adokiye Amiesiemaka stadium in Port Harcourt. Nigeria hold a tenuous lead courtesy of a Moses free-kick and it's all to play for still. Meanwhile, goalscorer Moses is writhing on the floor after what I suspect is a hammie. The medics have been called in. from Super Sports |
6.38pm - CHANCE!!! What a chance for Nigeria to grab a second as the newly introduced Martins controls superbly on his chest before sending a slide-rule pass into the path of Ighalo. The Watford striker hits a stunner which should be rattling the back of the net but Gwebu had other ideas as he dives low to parry the ball out for a Nigerian corner kick. Top notch goalkeeping there from the Swazi number one. from Super Sports |
6.36pm - NIGERIA SUB: Nigeria make their first sub as Obafemi Martins comes on for a rather subdued Ahmed Musa. from Super Sports |
6.28pm - NIGERIA 1-0 SWAZILAND It's become a bit pedestrian from the Nigerian side now. The passes are too slow and measured and Swaziland certainly have no problems regrouping and defending every time they've lost the ball up at the other end. It's a bit like watching paint dry at the moment. from Super Sports |
Goal by Simon Moses 51st minute |
After 135 minutes of football, Nigeria CANNOT score against Swaziland. Folks, let's us cut out the drama, abuse, sound bites etc, this is just poor. This has nothing to do with giving Oliseh more time. He simply is not good enough. If we are now reduced to Musa, Onazi and Ambrose leading the Super Eagles, something has gone terribly wrong with both the NFF and Oliseh. In this 2nd leg, we should have at least put out our best 11. Experienced players who have been in this position so many times and know how to get out of it. Ghana did just that and they are leading Comoros. Not field players who are just happy to earn their first or second caps. Even if the first leg was a fluke, at least correct it within 20-30 minutes of the 2nd leg. No matter the outcome of this game, Oliseh is CLEARLY not ready or fit for this. With Keshi we never had to wait up to 3 competitive games to score goals or win a match. Even at the World Cup!! What is the use winning 2 friendlies in 3 only to struggle in the real games. If Keshi achieved all he did with NFF in full sabotage mode against him, the Press too hating him, Oliseh must be really poor compared to him if he is failing with all the support, goodwill and loyalty he has got. I hope the NFF and their handlers in the Government can eat their humble pie and bring back Keshi. |
suaveman:Winning teams are formed in the heat of battle. The boys that went to AFCON 2013 and FIFA WC 2014 have a strong bond that Oliseh did not understand and has unknowingly broken. 1. Musa should never have been made Captain over more Senior players 2. Enyeama should never have been disgraced out of the team the way Oliseh messed him up. He was their Captain who has taken bullets for them many times. 3. Ignoring players like Victor Moses and Omeruo who are playing well forgetting that their friends in the team will imagine that they are next. Why kill yourself for a coach that will stab you tomorrow. 4. Oliseh is grossly inexperienced. 5. Oliseh has a 'use and dump' attitude that makes it difficult for players to play their heart out for him. Players can see that he is not a loyal person. 6. In the dressing room, Keshi is known to be a rousing motivator who knows how to get players to give their blood for the green-white-green. Oliseh may not have the same charisma. 7. The number of games played since Oliseh came in have been thick and fast. Yet there has been no time to cement any bond with the team because immediately after the games, the team disperses. Rather he has spent valuable time fighting and picking quarrels. The senior players that can help him are the ones he is picking quarrels with. *smh* |
it is sad that with all the support Oliseh is getting from NFF he is still performing so poorly. We cannot afford another dismal performance like the Tanzania game. Keshi that was always being sabotaged by the NFF had a much better record in these type of games. |
The sad thing that most football supporters will soon find out that Carl Ikeme is not a good goal keeper. He is an average keeper, but he not even in the class of Ejide talk less Enyeama. Those who think his showing against Tanzania is the way he performs should check how many goals he has conceded for Wolves in England since that game, even as second choice keeper playing in the English 2nd division. *smh* |

Nigeria sha, Captain Enyeama 1 day late....wahala, President list 100 days late.....no wahala. Daris God!!! |
Update Burkina 2:1 Nigeria (Game on!!!) |
Update Burkina 2:0 Nigeria |
Update Cameroon 2:1 Nigeria |
ubeji:One has to give it to Maigari and his team, they knew how to prepare for and win tournaments. Pinnick and his rag-tag exco need to invest in preparations (camping and quality tune-up friendlies) and learn how to win tournaments not just qualify for them and just make the numbers. |
Half Time in both games. Results unchanged Cameroon 2:0 Nigeria (Women) Burkina 1:0 Nigeria (Men) |
Burkina Faso 1:0 Nigeria |
Like seriously. What the heck is wrong with the super eagles??
