I wrote this today. Other are already contributing too What Practical Steps Should Southwest States Take Against Banditry and Terrorism? https://www.nairaland.com/8685199/what-practical-steps-should-southwest
Please, make your suggestion also on that thread. An authorised person may be reading this too and your contributions will be of help
For me
1. Establish a Comprehensive Resident Identity System
The Each State Government should develop a comprehensive resident identity and address verification system to improve security, planning, and service delivery. Every resident should be encouraged to register through a centralized database linked to verified residential addresses. This system will assist law enforcement agencies in identifying criminal elements, tracking suspicious activities, and improving emergency response capabilities while respecting constitutional rights and privacy protections.
2. Registration and Regulation of Herders
All herders operating within Each State should be required to register with the State Government and the relevant Local Government Authorities before engaging in grazing or livestock activities. Registration should include biometric identification, location of operation, livestock records, and compliance with state regulations. This measure will promote accountability, reduce farmer-herder conflicts, and help security agencies identify unauthorized or suspicious activities.
3. Monitoring and Prevention of Violent Extremism
The government should strengthen collaboration between security agencies, community leaders, and religious organizations to identify and prevent violent extremism. Authorities should monitor and investigate individuals or organizations suspected of supporting terrorism, radicalization, or violent activities, regardless of religious affiliation. Any person found to be promoting or financing terrorism should face prosecution in accordance with Nigerian law.
4. Promote Agricultural Self-Sufficiency
Each Southwest State should invest heavily in agriculture to enhance food security and create employment opportunities. Government support should include access to improved seedlings, mechanized farming, irrigation systems, agricultural training, storage facilities, and access to markets. Increased agricultural productivity will reduce economic vulnerabilities and strengthen rural communities.
5. Develop a Community and Neighbourhood Intelligence Network
A structured neighbourhood intelligence network should be established across communities in each state State. Residents, community leaders, traditional institutions, and security agencies should work together to identify emerging security threats and share relevant information. Such a system should operate within legal frameworks and emphasize the protection of citizens' rights.
6. Eliminate Illegal Settlements in Deep Forest Areas
The government should conduct a comprehensive survey of forest reserves and remote settlements. Unauthorized settlements established in deep forests, particularly those linked to criminal activities, should be dismantled through lawful procedures. Forest reserves should be regularly monitored and patrolled to prevent their use as safe havens for kidnappers, bandits, terrorists, and other criminal groups.
7. Swift Prosecution of Serious Crimes
The State Government should strengthen collaboration with the judiciary and security agencies to ensure the swift investigation and prosecution of kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, illegal arms trafficking, and organized crime. Fast-track procedures should be considered for cases involving serious threats to public safety while ensuring due process and fair trials.
8. Establish Formal Reporting Channels for Suspicious Activities
Multiple reporting channels should be created to enable citizens to report suspicious activities safely and confidentially. These channels may include dedicated hotlines, mobile applications, community liaison officers, and local security committees. Public awareness campaigns should educate citizens on how and when to report security concerns.
9. Promote Civic Education and Constitutional Values
Schools across each State should strengthen civic education programs that teach constitutional rights, responsibilities of citizenship, peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law. Young people should be equipped with the knowledge and values necessary to contribute positively to society and resist extremist influences.
10. Prosecute Incitement to Violence
The government should adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward incitement to violence, hatred, terrorism, or public disorder. Individuals who promote violence through public speeches, religious gatherings, traditional institutions, political platforms, social media, or any other means should be investigated and prosecuted according to the law, regardless of their status or background.
11. Expand Vocational and Technical Education
Each State should significantly expand vocational and technical education opportunities to equip young people with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship. Training programs should focus on modern agriculture, information technology, construction, renewable energy, manufacturing, and other high-demand sectors. Empowering youth economically will reduce vulnerability to recruitment by criminal organizations and extremist groups.

Sports › Re: Nigeria Vs Portugal Friendly: Iwobi, Chukwueze Join Team In Lisbon (Photos) by Apcshit: 6:31pm On Jun 05 |
Dantesi: For some Nigerian fans, the moment they hear "Portugal," their minds immediately travel back to that painful 4-0 defeat in Lisbon four years ago. The names Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva still carry a certain fear factor. But football does not stand still, and this Super Eagles team is no longer the same side that was humiliated in 2022. The biggest mistake Nigerian fans can make ahead of next week's friendly is assuming Portugal are unbeatable. Yes, they are a top European side. Yes, they will be preparing for the World Cup. But if Wednesday's draw against Poland taught us anything, it is that Eric Chelle is quietly building a team that refuses to be intimidated.
The Super Eagles have now arrived in Lisbon with confidence growing inside the camp. According to team spokesman Promise Efoghe, 19 players made the trip from Poland, with Alex Iwobi and Genk defender Christian Akpan already joining the squad. Samuel Chukwueze is also expected to arrive shortly, giving Chelle even more attacking options. Many fans have focused on the late equaliser Nigeria conceded against Poland. While dropping a lead in stoppage time was frustrating, it should not erase the positives from that performance. Away from home, against a European opponent, the Eagles controlled large parts of the game and looked dangerous whenever they attacked.
Terem Moffi and Paul Onuachu both found the net, while Wilfred Ndidi once again showed why he remains one of the most important leaders in the squad. For long periods, Nigeria looked like the better team. One spectacular strike from distance should not suddenly turn a good performance into a disaster. What makes this Portugal game interesting is that the pressure is completely on the hosts. Portugal are heading to the World Cup and will want to convince their supporters that they are genuine contenders. Nigeria, meanwhile, can play with freedom and use the occasion to test new combinations ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. There is also a growing belief that Chelle's style is beginning to take shape. The Super Eagles no longer look like a collection of talented individuals waiting for moments of magic. There appears to be a clearer structure, better pressing and more willingness to keep possession under pressure. The arrival of Alex Iwobi could be particularly important. Few Nigerian players are better at connecting midfield and attack. When Iwobi is confident, the entire team tends to play with more rhythm and creativity. Combined with Chukwueze's direct running and Moffi's movement, Nigeria have enough weapons to trouble any defence.
Some fans argue that Portugal's superior quality means the result is already decided. That mentality is exactly what Nigerian football needs to abandon. This is the same country that defeated Argentina at youth level, shocked defending champions in AFCON tournaments and consistently produced players capable of starring in Europe's biggest leagues. Let's also not forget that Portugal themselves have weaknesses. Their defence has looked vulnerable against quick transitions, and several of their veteran stars are approaching the latter stages of their careers. If Nigeria presses aggressively and takes its chances, this match could become far more uncomfortable for the hosts than many expect.
The bigger picture is that these friendlies are about building a winning culture after the disappointment of missing the 2026 World Cup. Nobody can change what happened in the qualifiers. What matters now is creating a team capable of dominating Africa again and returning stronger for future tournaments. So can Nigeria beat Portugal? Absolutely. It will not be easy, and Portugal will start as favourites. But football is not played on reputation. With Iwobi, Chukwueze and the rest of the squad joining a confident group already in Lisbon, Super Eagles fans have every reason to believe an upset is possible. The fear factor is gone. Now it is time to see whether this new-look Nigeria can back up the confidence on the pitch.

RIALITI: I think the solution to this current problem is for Nigerians to stage a protest that "No security in Nigeria, No elections come 2027". All Nigerians should make it known to this polithiefcians that even when the tenure of this current administration runs out without any end to insecurity the military must take over.
It is obvious that we can't fight this insurgency with our paforated compromised democratic system. The current situation is a war not dialogue and only the military answers that perfectly. What these polithiefcians are doing now is fighting cancer with paracetamol.
