Politics / Akala Discredits Return To PDP Rumour. by Apesin247: 10:37pm On Apr 24, 2016
Former governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala has debunked the rumour of returning to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) following the on-going restructuring of the party who once ruled Nigeria for 16years ahead of 2019 General Elections.

Recently, the political juggernaut, Akala averred that natural death awaits the PDP, disclosing that he and his supporters have decided to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I already said goodbye to the PDP; I would not have gone back to the PDP. What would I have gone back to do in PDP?” he remarked.

Akala continued,“those people that had dissenting voices were not the people who followed me to Labour Party (LP), so they must be the ones expecting that maybe I would come back to PDP.

“But the decision to leave PDP back then was unanimously taken by my followers, so if some people are expecting me to return to PDP, they are not many; they are very small in percentage and I will say they are insignificant.

Nobody would have expected me to come back to PDP; the party will soon die a natural death, so there is no way I can go back to a party that is in comatose".

“At present, PDP is in comatose, why do I have to go and join issues or be part of the people that will bury PDP? I can’t go back to PDP. I have said goodbye to them and I wish them good luck. I hope they can get a good doctor to revive the party”, the former governor stressed.

Refreshing your memory, Alao-Akala left the PDP after a failed bid to secure the ticket of the party for the 2015 gubernatorial election, while fortune smiled on the former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin against all odds.

This situation, however forced Otunba Akala out of the PDP, while he eventually contested on the platform of the Labour Party (LP). megaiconmagazine.com/?p=2325

Nairaland / General / Oyo: Ogbomoso Farmers, Students Protest Fulani Herdsmen Attacks. by Apesin247: 9:09am On Apr 01, 2016
Farmers, Students in Ogbomoso area of Oyo State, on Thursday protested against the incessant rapacious activities of Fulani herdsmen in the state, as prodigious losses of agricultural produce are mounting after the invasion of farms in Orire Local Government Area by Fulani herdsmen and their cattle.

These attacks were said to have impoverished the farmers, subjecting some of them into abject poverty, as crops worth millions of naira were destroyed by Fulani-herded cattle, with the cattle grazing the farms, and squashing on key crops, such as cassava, maize, yam, cashew, and tomatoes amongst others.

Its Secretary, Joseph Oyekola during a protest at the Oyo State House of Assembly in Ibadan called for urgent government intervention. The group maintained that the menace of the nomads had metamorphosed beyond grazing on crops, with new dimension of rape and physical attack with machetes, guns and destruction being recorded across the zone.

Equally, the farmers said they were living in perpetual fear due to the activities of the Fulani cattle rearers.

In a related development, the General Secretary, Federation of Ogbomoso Students' Union (FOGSU), Messrs Joshua Aderemi, laments the nefarious activities of the Fulani herdsmen, while calling on the government, security operatives to intervene so as to prevent conflictual relationship between the farmers and Fulani herdsmen in the communities. "Our resolution and decision to demonstrate peaceful and to display our grievances alongside our parents (farmers) who are our sponsors and whose farm produce are being destroyed by Fulani herdsmen".

Aderemi, who considered the incident as an agony of the mind said they can no longer entertain Fulani herdsmen and their cattle because they are not law abiding. According to him, several petitions have been sent to the Commissioner of Police, the State House of Assembly amongst others to register their concern over the increasing threat to life and properties constituted by the Fulani nomads.

He insisted that without any substantial intervention from the government and appropriate quarters, the entire students from the five (5) local governments that made Ogbomoso geo- political zone would have no option but to troop out into the farms to revolt the oppressors themselves.

Similarly, Messrs Aderemi, had earlier condemned in strongest terms the illegal and unlawful detention of some farmers by the police, SARs office in Oyo, 25th February, 2016.

In his reaction, while addressing the protesters, the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Michael Adeyemo condemned the vicious activities of the Fulani herdsmen, while commending them for embarking on a peaceful protest to lay their grievances to the state government as well as towing the line of justice which might have escalated into destructive conflict as recently witnessed in Benue State where several lives and properties were wantonly destroyed.

He, however assured that the House of Assembly will look into the matter with get back to the farmers megaiconmagazine.com/?p=2254

Nairaland / General / #oke’badan Festival: Gani Adams Laments Fading Glory Of Cultural Heritage. by Apesin247: 3:22pm On Mar 14, 2016
National Coordinator, Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) , Otunba Gani Adams has expressed his regret over the neglect suffered by Oke’badan festival which he claimed has been demeaning its glory while calling on Oyo State government, relevant stakeholders to preserve and expand the dream of the rich cultural heritage by branding it as a state festival to generate traffic to Ibadan during the period of celebration.

He also called for more participation of Ibadan people in the festival celebration. “Permit me to drum it once again without pontificating that there is nothing fetish or primitive in Oke’badan Festival.

He made the lamentation at the annual celebration of Oke’badan festival 2016 on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital . The chief promoter of Olokun Festival, Otunba Adams during his address at the historic Mapo hall noted that the festival is one of the unsullied festival in Yorubaland because of its cultural significance to the soul of Ibadan.

“Oke’badan Festival celebration is the key that unlocks the pot of fortunes and clear the road for accelerated development strides in Ibadan land. It is not only for the fun of it that Ibadan grows faster than any other cities in Nigeria. This feat is not being recorded without the aura of good spell being dished out by the efficacy of prayers offered by Lagelu and which is being refreshed and stoke every year during the celebration of Oke’badan Festival”, the OPC chief explained.

“Oke’badan Festival is just a cultural celebration where the efforts of the heroes past are appreciated, evaluated and celebrated. It is a festival which every Ibadan indigene is always proud of that the city has a solid festival rooted in history and sustained all these years, which reminds them of a glorious past, with seasoned progenitors who stamped their imprints on the sand of time by founding this great city”, it continued.

Otunba Adams stressed that his organization has lifted the economic activity of Ibadan during the festive period through the influx of visitors who came to fete and celebrate Oke’badan as many were doing a brisk business. He, however lamented that Ibadan people denied their one time saviour who once rescued the city from crisis, urging them not to shy away from the reality, but to promote their identity- Oke’badan.

“Ibadan, the great city with seven hills which Oke’badan Festival represents must be uplifted as one of the festivals to be adopted by the Federal government in its scheme of boosting cultural tourism in Nigeria”.

Equally, the OPC captain also dismissed media reports that he collected the sum of $22m from the late Libyan President, Mummar Ghaddaffi and N1.6m from Musliu Obanikoro, former minister of state for defence.

” I have been reading reports and articles sponsored in the media by some expelled members of the OPC are fallacy of thought from discomforted and greedy former members of the association.

“Sometimes ago, they said I collected $22Billion from Ghadaffi of Libya, I don’t know what for, I am not a Taliban, I have never been to Libya neither do I have any link with Gadaffi. Also they said I collected N 1.6 Billion from Obanikoro who is now in America”.

“Yesterday again I read in the newspaper where somebody who is parading himself as a member of the National coordinating council of the OPC speaking on behalf of his co-travailer that I should not come to Ibadan because I will cause violence. I want to tell you categorically that OPC is not a violent organization, we form this organization to liberate Yoruba “.

“This is an assignment given to me by God. It is beyond me. The detractors have been plotting my downfall but rather than failing as they wish I continue to wax stronger and gain more strength with the help of He who sent me and I can assure them no matter how hard they try to disorganize OPC and pull us down they will continue to fail”, he said.

The celebrator, Aboke of Ibadanland, Chief Fasola Ifamapowa commended Otunba Gani Adams and the entire Olokun festival foundation for supporting the festival. Other speakers at the event include the Oyo state coordinator of OPC, Comrade Rotimi Olumo, and the guest lecturer, Dr Shina Arulogun of the Department of local government and development studies, the Polytechnic Ibadan.

Teeming crowd graced the occasion, while other dignitaries who attended the occassion are High Chief Ayoade Adewuyi, Jagun of Oyo State, Oba Sikiru Adeyemo Odeyemi, Onimia of Imia, Mr. Femi Davies, Metro news, Mr. Wale Ojo Lanre, Tourism Editor, Nigerian Tribune. megaiconmagazine.com/?p=2159#more-2159

Politics / Lgs' Annihilation: How State Governors Are 'legalising' Illegality. by Apesin247: 3:11am On Feb 12, 2016
The political atmosphere in Oyo state recently has experienced a tensed atmosphere due to the failure of Governor Abiola Ajimobi to constitute not only his cabinet but also caretaker chairmen for the 33 local governments in the state.

The state government seems to have borrowed a 'frugal idea' from his Osun state counterpart with the duo hiding under the pretext of economic downturn to legalise the illegalities.

Citing the reasons for the anomaly, the two governors had declared that the need to save for the execution of projects in the face of dwindling allocations from the federation's account has left them with no choice but to annihilate the third tier of governments, forgetting that the constitution has conferred on the local government the rights to existence, thesame right the State governments are enjoying but ironically using it to snuff life out of the closest government to the people, the very ones they profess they are elected to serve.

This new trend which seems to be gaining momentum among the self styled change agents had become a thing of worry for the lovers of democracy and legal luminaries alike. This anomaly if left to continue would constitute not only a bad precedent but could also make our nascent democracy to suffer deformity at their infant stage.

Mega Icon Magazine recently took up the Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ibadan branch, Mr. Kazeem Gbadamosi on this issue. The NBA chair stated that the new act of annihilating the local government under any guise, it is not only unconstitutional but also a dirty slap on Nigerian constitution, the very document that holds this country together.

According to him the constitution of Nigeria (1999) as amended sets up a three tier form of government namely: federal, state and local as provided in Section 7(1) (4), adding that there is no provision for a caretaker chairman in the Nigerian constitution.

In his words , “I am not aware that there has been a third tier of government in some of the states in this country
including Oyo state. The failure to conduct elections for the third tier of government is not only
unconstitutional, it is illegal".

He stated further, "we have gone through the constitution; we have not seen where there is
provision for caretaker chairman/person to be
appointed by the governor".

The absence of virile oppositions in Oyo and Osun States have worsen the situation in these two states thus making the governors to act with impunities. It is imperative to remind these state governments of the natural phenomenon which gives to persons in exact portion the efforts they have invested, at least, if nothing at all, Dasuki present predicament should be a lessons to all and sundry as the action he perpetrated three decades ago has now returned to hunt him thus making the hitherto hunter to become the hunted.

The attitudes of "awa ti g'oke odo, k'afara o to ja" (this was evident in governor Ajimobi's speech while speaking during an event organised by the Ajorosun Club, a social club in Ibadan which draws its members from the prominent sons of Ibadan indigenes, where the governor remarked that "....mi o gbe gba ibo mo now" meaning, ( I am serving a second term in office, I don't need to placate anybody since I won't seek for votes any longer) being exhibited by these governors all because they are serving a second term in office might turn out to be their greatest albatross in the nearest future.

The governor of Oyo state got a small dose of people's anger when he was being told to his face by the people (party members) who should be praising him that they are hungry thus he should expedite actions in announcing the care-taker chairmen presented to him by the party leaders.

This is a clear signal that the governor is loosing it and any respect being accorded to him now is because he still occupying the seat of power, he would know the effect of what he has done when he exits the Agodi government house.

Already, some of the party members interviewed both in Osun and Oyo states have regretted their decisions of returning their governors for a second term vowing that they would never work for any state government twice. This is talking about setting a bad precedent, would you blame them for wanting to be in charge of their destinies? experience at least they say is the best teacher.

With all their arguments of being economical with the state's resources, the NBA Chairman asked them this rhetorical question: “can the President appoint caretaker
governors? He didnt stop there, he further stated, "we should all endeavor to fight jointly the illegality of creating/appointing caretaker
committee for local government that will occupy
office for periods not provided for in our constitution.

“It is also wrong to use civil servants who are public
officers to run local governments contrary to the
provision of the 1999 constitution. It is wrong. We all have a duty to call for compliance with the
constitution and upholding of the constitution which
our politicians have sworn to uphold", the NBA boss submitted.

Governor Ajimobi attributed his inability to conduct council elections during his first term to the existing logjam of lawsuits but he has since promised to conduct the election "as soon as possible" using the phrase he used last year while delivering a lecture in University of Ibadan.

Now that we are almost into the first quarter of another year, we are hoping that the governor will put a stop to this act of illegality and make his numerous promises count. megaiconmagazine.com/?p=2118

Romance / Ibadan Murder: Fresh Fact Emerges Over Oyelowo Ajanaku's Death. by Apesin247: 2:31am On Feb 10, 2016
As news continue to filter in regarding the character of the Ibadan based lawyer, Yewande Oyediran , who slit her husband's throat, Oyelowo Oyediran Ajanaku and which resulted in his death, new facts have emerged regarding the professional character of the woman who is presently being kept in police custody for the heinous crime.

According to a source from the Ministry of Justice where the accused earns her living, the woman is said to be a tough person who shows no compassion whatsoever for the offenders hence she is nick named "Magareth Thatcher".

The source who confided in Mega Icon Magazine added that due to her tough stances on cases that were assigned to her she is always given cases in which the accused want to be prosecuted by every mean.

In her words, "she is a known figure in the ministry due to her tough mien and she always give every case is handling the hundred percent seriousness it deserves, hence, the accused persons never pray to handle cases against her".

Another source who introduced a spiritual angle to the murder the lawyer committed revealed that the stabbing is not 'ordinary' saying that the woman might have been 'remotely controlled' into committing the dastardly act by people who detest her tough stands on cases she has handled.

"From the way I see it, that act (murder) has spiritual undertone. The woman is a hard case who is feared in the court. She is not approachable especially when it concerns lawsuits she is handling.

I have heard people saying that because she is a lawyer does not mean that she should throw morals to the wind. Thus, it might have been the handiwork of people who felt she had behaved rudely to them in the course of performing her professional duties.

The crime is a perfect example of what our fathers refer to as spiritual manipulation (Eedi)", she concluded.

It will be recalled that the woman has since be charged to court and she has been ordered to be kept in police custody until the next adjournment. megaiconmagazine.com/?p=2108

Romance / Love Or Money, which Is Of More Value In Marriage? by Apesin247: 10:13am On Feb 06, 2016
Marriage was defined as a formal union between man and woman which is recognized by custom, religion and law. Our discussion will be based on love and money in relation to marriage.

Love and money are two things that individuals feel strongly about. A lot of relationships are started because of the need for either of the two. Now the question to be trashed is which one of the two (love or money) should be regarded as the key to a successful marriage?

The dictionary defines Love as “a strong affection for or attachment or devotion to a person or persons”. Love is a very important issue in marriage; love comes first in any healthy relationship. Love is a behavior. A relationship thrives when partners are committed to behaving lovingly through continual, unconditional giving. Intimate love emanates from knowledge and giving, it comes not overnight but overtime which nearly always means after marriage.

The intensity many couples feel before marrying is usually great affection boosted by commonality, chemistry and anticipation. These may be the seeds of love but yet to sprout. On the wedding day, emotions run high, but true love should be at its lowest, because it will hopefully always be growing, as husband and wife give more and more to each other. ‘Love is for better or worse’ which means till death do us part, but today ‘love is for better or best’.

Love should be the criteria for marriage, when there is true love in a marriage, the marriage brings mutual comfort and each member of the family grows as a person in love and security. Loving someone and being in love brings happiness. Love is essential to the human race. We need to help each other, co-operate with each other, and reaffirm each other.

Love finds its natural and proper expression in the union of two persons. Love is considered to give meaning to life to overcome all obstacles and to offer a share in eternity. Respect for the dignity of the beloved is given in union through marriage.

On the other side, Money can be described as “a person’s wealth, including properties”. Money is an aspect of marriage which must not be neglected. The main purpose of money in marriage is to provide for the family, have control over the family and make the family comfortable.

Money has answers to all things, likewise money is the root of all evil, money has become reason why people kill, steal and destroy. There are so many cases where spouse betray and even kill one another for money; in such marriages do you think love was the foundation or money?.

Money is one thing that cannot be taken out of marriage. Money fuels the love one has for a spouse.
For most marriages, money has the main contention as some people say ‘no money, no love’, money prevails on love in today’s society but come to think of it, for instance, it is believed that you can get all you want through money, money can generate love but can it buy love?. If love is like religion, then it cannot be bought nor can it be negotiated (and compromised), Love seems to be similar to both, but identical to either.

Money is still very essential in marriage because with money you can finance the family, make connections for the family and also make lovely home. But if money is said to answer all things why do you think we have high rate of divorce among the rich families?

The role of money in generating or in transacting loving relationships is expressed, for example, in the content of personal advertisement seeking romantic partners, thus, the requirement that prospective partners are financially secure is often mentioned in adverts placed by women.

Indeed, while both men and women consider good looking partners, some consider other qualities, such as status and money, to compensate for looks. It is interesting to note that many men prefer a spouse who makes less money than they do and whose occupational status is lower than theirs. But this is due to men’s concern about their self-esteem rather than to the issue of love. It might, however, be indicated that money influences the generation of love. Money can improve our situation in a way that gives us more occasions for happiness but all the same can it be all it takes to have a happy and successful marriage?

At this junction, is it true that “true love can never be bought by gold or silver” nor should we say “money answers everything?
Agreeing with the opinions of people, love is said to come first in any relationship, so it should be the most paramount criterion for successful marriage. Love should not be one-sided which means that “love is like a rubber band held at both ends by two people and when one leaves it,the other gets hurts”.

Despite all that have been discussed, the decision still depends on individual. Love, accompanied with understanding and a bit of adjustment, makes a marriage go a long way, with money to handle the cost of transportation, of course.

The two aspects, love and money is a decision you cannot make for any one depending on the relationship. To make the point, if you were stuck on a desert island, would you rather have #1billion or some water and a raft? I think it’s more about understanding the emotional response that money causes in people and how this influences love.

However, the goal of a person is to find someone that has a total package that is valuable to a person, no matter whom you choose there are upgrades out there in certain areas. There is someone with better heart, someone with better looks, someone with more money and someone who is better at making you a better person.

It all comes down to the balance at all attributes that are desirable to a person which means despite what has been said this issue still depends on individual interest. The most important is to find the best package for yourself; this does not mean that anyone is perfect in all areas.megaiconmagazine.com/?p=40#more-40

The uncovered waterfall housed by Ogan forest is located in the ancient town of Oke – Ila Orangun, Ifedayo Local Government, Osun State.

The work of nature is said to be the second waterfall that will be discovered in the town as Ayikunugba, one of the most exciting waterfall in Nigeria was also hosted in that community.

This awe- inspiring waterfall is armored by thick jungle of Ogan Forest located on the right part of the Oke –Ila Orangun road.

The refreshing ambience thickens while going through the paths which accommodate trees, shrubs, cool and refreshing breeze with evergreen vegetation.

This sparks the first fire of excitement that pervades the veins of any visitor at the fall

For most tourists, fun seekers, picnickers and film makers, Ogan waterfall is a place to be.

One cannot visit the tourism site without appreciating the work of nature, but the state government housing such a goldmine as a tourist centre can make conscious efforts to explore and, indeed, dig up the waiting gold as a means of accelerating its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Mega Icon Magazine advised. megaiconmagazine.com/?p=2043

Politics / Ibadan Myth Crushed During Oba Odulana’s Reign – Dapo Lam-adesina. by Apesin247: 3:01am On Feb 06, 2016
Honourable Dapo Lam-Adesina representing Ibadan North East/ South East Federal Constituency has avowed that the ‘Ibadan lore’ of not returning a governor for second term was crushed during the reign of Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade 1, the late Olubadan of Ibadanland who passed on recently.

A development which he claimed was responsible for the radical transformation in the city.

The lawmaker made the assertion on Friday, in Ibadan while paying a condolence visit to the Monatan private residence of the late potentate.

Lam-Adesina who was euphoric that the second term hex was broken thus making it a year of jubilee in Oyo State, described the late Custodian of culture as a man who has done his best for Ibadanland.

“Baba lived a wonderful life. Like I said earlier inside, Baba stood for a lot of things. During his era which has just ended, one of the things that has been making some of us unhappy about Ibadanland was crushed. Before, we are not always proud of this, but now we can walk majestically, the myth of not returning a governor has been broken”.

“This has happened during Baba’s era. This is for us to realize that some people who have infiltrated us in the past were the ones that made this to happen. Truly if a man or woman is doing very well, there is no reason why you don’t return such people, even if they want to come ten times. The most important thing is the development of the society”, he counseled.

Speaking further, the son of late ex- governor of Oyo State, Lam Adesina argued that development has taken place in Ibadan courtesy of the Abiola Ajimobi led government, adding that the governor has done well.

His statement reads, ” development has come to Ibadanland and in general, Oyo State during the time of Senator Abiola Ajimobi. “This is a government that has done very well and the people have spoken with their votes. They have returned the man who has done very well”.

He, however assured the people of the state of a better tenure , even in the face of harsh economic realities that is currently battling with Nigeria.

Expressing his regret, he said “it was so unfortunate that Baba didn’t live to witness one of his priorities, which was the creation of Ibadan State.

In his response, the Asipa Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Olufemi Olaifa thanked the lawmaker, while assuring that the dream of Ibadan State will certainly come true.

Meanwhile, Honourable Lam-Adesina also visited the Popoyemoja residence of Olubadan-designate, High Chief Saliu Adetunji to show his unflinching support.

He, however urged the incoming Olubadan to uphold the remarkable legacies left behind by the deceased monarch. megaiconmagazine.com/?p=2067
Education / Stakeholders Punctured, Says Kegite’s Club Is Not A Cult Group. by Apesin247: 9:34pm On Feb 05, 2016
Following the speculations renting the airwaves that the palm wine drinkers club, the most popular socio-cultural group in the Nigerian tertiary institutions, known as the Kegites’ club international is nothing but a faceless cult group. A custodian of culture who is also a member of the Kegites Club International, His Royal Majesty, Oba Peter Ojo Daramola, Olora of Oke- Ora, Ido- Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, has debunked the allegement.

According to the royal father, Oba Ojo Daramola, the kegites club is a voluntary organization that stands for the promotion of African culture and tradition. “That is why Kegites’ appreciate cultural things and believe in palm wine which is unhydrated but natural drink”.

Speaking further, Oba Daramola said that the Kegites club is not a secret cult, reaffirming that, the club has nothing to do with any secret organization, but a peace loving club. He described the club as an ‘open secret organization’, where affairs are conducted in the open while there is no restriction on entrance to the shrines.

Oba Daramola recalled the good old days while he was a student at the Premier University of Ibadan, stating that the club is so unique and decent. “Before anyone can be initiated as a member, you have to be academically sound, they have to go to your department to verify your background, I was on solid 2.1 before I got initiated”, he explained.

Contributing to this development, a former Archival Chief of the club at the National Headquarters, University of Ibadan between 1993/1994, Comrade Jide Olatunbosun popularly known as “Pack ham together” scowled at the widely circulated allegation leveled against the club from some quarters. Olatunbosun disclosed that the kegites club international is an open secret club, because her activities are operated openly and there is no secret attached to it.

He also stressed further that the club was registered with the Board of Senate, University of Ibadan around 1973. Olatunbosun reiterated that the main objective of the club is to promote African culture and tradition, maintaining that the basis of African unity is the palm wine which is a natural drink.

The Archival Chief, Comrade Olatunbosun did not hesitate to explain how he got attracted to the kegites’ club. According to him, “it takes an interest to be a member of any club, we are all victim of interest”, he stated.

“Apart from interest, there are also some things that induced me to this club, they shared love, members always assist each other, while we were on campus, even if you don’t have money, you will surely be managed. More so, they have a very powerful network, there is no field of endeavours’ you would not find them, they are spread across the globe, even my present employment was given to me by a kegite Chief, immediately, I lost my former job”, he concluded.

A leader of the club who rose to the apex level of the hierarchy almost three decades ago, Chief Taofeek Gbolagade Rahmon generally known as “Ogbori Efon” expressed his displeasure about the guess which he described as a baseless and unfounded allegation. “Ogbori Efon” as popularly called is the Pioneer Chief Executive Officer of Mail Sail Microfinance Bank, Bodija, Ibadan.

He stated that the Kegites’ club is a socio-cultural organization that is well rooted in the promotion of African culture and ways of life. While elaborating further , he said the emergence of one as a leader of the club depends on various attributes which includes: strong character, humility, brilliancy, ability to coordinates and manage people.

” To the glory of God, I emerged as a Chief between 1986/1987, since then, I had never regretted being a member of the palm wine drinkers club”, Gbolagade stated confidently.

According to Gbolagade Ramon (Ogbori Efon), the club has offered him more goodies and benefits.

He said “I got my contacts from the club; they are now at the top cadre and doing pretty well in their various endeavours”. Proceeding, Ogbori Efon added that the club has impacted a lot to his life ranging from hard work, sharing, service to humanity, obedient and humility, all these are strong characteristics of a good Leader which he claimed to have learnt and imbibed from the club.

The stakeholders finally expresses their discomfort about the present situation of the club, stating that most of her members have derailed from the core objective, which is the total promotion of African tradition and cultural heritage, while most of the members have polluted the system, believing that they must belong to one secret organization or the other.

Unanimously, the stakeholders charged all the members of the club, particularly, those who are still on campus to revive, redeem and reclaim the lost glory of the Great Kegites’ club International in line with the lofty dream of its founding fathers. megaiconmagazine.com/?p=322
Politics / Impeachment Saga:a Recurring Decimal In Nigeria Political Development. by Apesin247: 6:34pm On Feb 04, 2016
In Africa political Kingdom, historical developments had been repeated with impeachments. Leaders who flouted Kingdoms’ established norms, cultures, laws were removed by persons, institutions and bodies set up as checks and balances.

For example, in old Oyo Kingdom in Western Nigeria, many Kings were made to ‘open the calabash’- the traditional impeachment process and such leaders were banished from the throne.

The Oyomesis had to have the majority to remove an erring Alaafin. To be a member of the Oyomesis is one of the most prestigious offices one could hold in Oyo town even today, as there is long standing integrity, thoroughness and sacredness attached to it.

Since independence, hardly had there been a government and constitution in Nigeria that the issue of removing leaders had not been germane to.

The modus operandi, modes and models of impeachment in Nigeria had been novel, more bizarre, more crude with each passing republic, and contrary to commonsense not to talk of globally accepted standards and practices.

The ruling PDP party had demonstrated flavor for illegal impeachments more than other parties in Nigeria. For example, on 16th October 2006, Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo declared a state of emergency after the hurried unconstitutional impeachment of Ayodele Fayose.

Retired soldier, General Tunji Olurin was subsequently appointed as Sole Administrator. To impeach Peter Obi and bar him from staying in office between 17th March to 2nd November, 2006 representatives of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo met in neighbouring Asaba, Delta State and were subsequently accompanied to Akwa to finalize the impeachment under heavy security provided by the mobile police unit.

The House of Assembly members arrived Akwa at 5:00am and they began sitting afterwards.
Eventually, Peter Obi was impeached. On 13th November 2006, ex –Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye suffered the same fate.

Pacesetter, Oyo State’s ex-Governor Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja was impeached on Thursday January 12, 2006 in an Hotel rather than the normal sitting of the legislators at the State House of Assembly.

Notice of impeachment was served the victim through newspapers and the impeachment was carried out by 18 legislators loyal to the strong man of Ibadan politics, the late Lamidi Adedibu instead of the legal requirement of 22 legislators.

Due to the hurried venal nature, there was unavailability of affidavit of the suspension and the declaration of lack of jurisdiction of the High Court was set aside.

Only God saved Ladoja’s life from the evil death machinery of PDP set against him like war landmine under the auspices of ex-General Olusegun Obasanjo.

Many years later, the same scenario and episode replayed itself in oil-rich Rivers State. In July 2013, five PDP Legislators without meeting the statutory requirements attempted to serially impeach the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and the Governor Oluwarotimi Amaechi.

It did not matter to them what the majority legislators felt or the tenets of the Constitution. Many twists and turns, blackmails, lies, disorderliness, intrigues, manipulation, shameful fracas, injuries, deaths and potential deaths juxtaposed the democratic foolery of these five legislators.

Another political sod was released on 15th July, 2014 with the successful impeachment of Murtala Nyako as governor of Adamawa State. As Nyako was been hounded out of power, Tanko Al-Makura, the embattled governor of Nasarawa State was issued an impeachment notice by the PDP-dominated House of Assembly through the speaker, delivered by the clerk of the house.

The method of impeachment was histrionic as the lawmakers moved the motion while President Goodluck Jonathan was in the state commissioning a rice owned by a private investor with Al-Makura playing the perfect host.

Despite the political games in play, he eventually escaped the impeachment plot.

In between these occurrences, over the years in the various States’ Houses of Assembly, same shameful retrogressive democratic imbroglios had similarly played themselves out at both the hallowed chambers of the Senate and House of Representatives, among ‘honourable’ members.

I could recollect seeing Dimeji Bankole watched the boxing bout and drama among his fellow ‘distinguished’ colleagues right inside the hallowed chamber he presided over few years ago.

What I find comical and ironical is that despite these evidences of idleness in our hallowed chambers, our legislators are the highest paid in the world!

Some of the above scenarios were orchestrated by educated and enlightened leaders; so the problem of wanton impeachments without recourse to due process is not lack of basic education by perpetrators who carried them out with impunity.

In saner climes, impeachment processes are well articulated, legalized and enshrined as instruments of socio-political developments towards ensuring good governance, accountability, checks and balances of leaders’ excesses.

In Nigeria, the monster of impeachment had been set loose as tormentors of the democratic experiment and elected leaders.

Poverty of ideas, dearth of decent approach in matters, poverty of the mind and of the pockets, fuel impeachments in Nigeria.

Impeachers had used and are using impeachment against the impeached as instruments of vendetta, brutality, cruelty, bestiality, flagrant show of ego and globally- rated indecency.

When will sanity be brought to this continual cannibalistic orgy of ugly shame, being masqueraded as impeachment and or at least witness some sanity in the conception and execution of impeachments in Nigeria?

Until saner men are brought to governance in Nigeria and God fearing people who have alternative means of livelihood embrace politics and elective positions in Nigeria and the emoluments and perquisites attached to elective officers reflect passion to serve and made so financially unattractive.

Until we revert to part-legislature. Then it would not be a do or die affair. There shall be disagreements between opposing views based on principles, divergent reasoning’s, conviviality, dialogue, peace and progress.

The interest of the nation, not of individual pockets, shall then be paramount. Then, we shall have soundness and sanity from the hallowed chambers of honourable members.

May God give our country real men and leaders who will be ruled not by their bellies but by reasoning, who can mentor younger generations and will not be ashamed to answer questions to be posed to them by their children and grand children.

Imagine your children ask you the question, ‘dad, did you do this, are you the one in that picture?’ Nigerians need democratically-compliant leaders, not war mongers.

In 1949 at the inauguration of the United Nations Chapter on Human Rights, American President Truman said ‘regard for human rights is indispensable to political, economic and social progress…..disregard for human rights is the beginning of tyranny and, too often, the beginning of war’.

Like Truman’s America, God, please give Nigeria true men, please. megaiconmagazine.com/?p=366

Crime / CBN House Of Horror: Multi-billion Naira CBN Property Rots Away, Turns Hideout F by Apesin247: 5:49pm On Feb 04, 2016
These properties were built with public funds. Today, most Federal Government Properties in Nigeria are either abandoned or underused. These national statues are now in ruins and threats to security. Some of these abandoned properties have been hijacked by weeds, rodents, wild animals and reptiles, while also serves as abodes for hoodlums, miscreants, armed robbers, kidnappers and the likes, this is exactly the true picture of the Central Bank of Nigeria property at Owode Estate, Apata, Ibadan, in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The multi-billion naira property in question owned by the Central Bank of Nigeria has been abandoned for over two decades. From the information at our desk, the property was designed and aimed at providing housing scheme to the staff of CBN. It was also established that the speedily completed Quarters had never accommodated any occupant, even for once, up till date.

Visit of the Mega Icon Magazine Crew to this abandoned, neglected site shows the parlous, pathetic and deplorable situation of the property that could have accommodated an estimated figure of about 10,000 people conveniently.

subsequent to the total neglect and insensitivity of the Federal Government, the property now poses great security risks to residents of the community.

Speaking with the President, Owode Estate Housing Residents Association, Deacon Idowu Aladejobi expresses his displeasure about this ugly situation. Aladejobi further stated that the abandoned property has constituted security risks to the community, “we discovered that CBN normally come to the site to burn their refuse (currencies) almost on a daily basis, which is an environmental hazard and injurious to the community.

He stated that the property has also been turned in to a safe haven by rapists who hide in the bushy environment to lure and rape their daughters with reckless abandonment.

According to him, men of the underworld also use the abandoned property as hideout to strategize and plan on how to carry out their evil operations, “they always come out of the place to attack and rob the community, this is very dishearten”, he lamented.

Though, one would bewildered with the ease at which CBN abandons its assets to decay still baffles many, other people perceive the problem as misapplied, misconceived, wrongly executed policies and absence of complete honesty in the management.

Similarly, Aladejobi said the community has taken bold steps by writing the CBN consistently, both the Ibadan Branch and Headquarters in Abuja to curtail this malady.
“ Even former governors of the Bank, Professor Soludo and Mr. Sanusi also came to inspect the property, we thought when they came, they would be able to address the issue, but unfortunately, it is to no avail”, he insisted.

In conclusion, Aladejobi advised the CBN to investigate and appraise the matter, probably release the property to the Local Government, State Government or better still, sell to private individuals, so as to meet other community needs and serve the people.

In a related development, a former President of the Association, Pa. Lawrence Abayomi Kupoluyi make plain the rich history of the abandoned CBN property that should have make the deserted project stand out as a national monument or major source of revenue, but suffers neglect or underutilization.

Kupoluyi in his reaction said that the community had taken several steps to ensure that the place is turned to a useful legacy, “we had written letters to CBN and Housing Corporation on this issue, yet nothing has been done, it is inhuman, our hope is dashed as the residents suffer neglect, we have been dehumanized”, he lamented.

Our further investigations revealed that the abandoned property has been turned to a game reserve where wild animals, including python dwell while corpses are buried at the place since there is nobody to challenge those people who have turned the place into a grave yard.

“A former Nigerian diplomat son, Ambassador Maiyaki was brutally attacked in the Estate by hoodlums who use the site as a hideout and since then, the man had never returned to Nigeria, he is psychologically affected”, another aggrieved resident declared.

According to Mega Icon Magazine investigations, it was gathered that different investors had approached the CBN, including Universities, but they never responded.

The Care-taker Chairman, Ido Local Government, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela frowned at the pandemic situation of the abandoned CBN property, describing it as an abode for criminals who are really inflicting injuries on the citizenry of his council, Owode Estate Housing Residents in particular. Olowofela in his remark said “it is obvious that the CBN does not need the property any longer, probably the management of the apex Bank is not aware of its existence or may be CBN are wasteful”, he stated aggrievedly.

The Council Chief, Olowofela explained further that he has put all machinery on surveillance so as to ensure that the lives and properties of the residents are protected and at the same time making effort to have a formal talk with the management of the CBN.

He, however, admonished the apex Bank to release the abandoned property either to the Local Government or State Government to make judicious use of it.
