Call for justice Ademola Ajayi and an unidentified man were victims of stray bullet from the Moniya fracas between the Nigeria Police Force and Okada riders of that axis in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital. There was pandemonium at Moniya area of Ibadan Monday when a police man alleged killed one Okada rider over N50 bribe. Two others were also shot by police officers attached to Moniya police station, Akinyele Local Government Ibadan in the confusion that ensued. According to an eyewitness account, trouble started when an Okada rider who was flagged down by a police officer for carrying two passengers refused to stop but was hit with a baton on the head. The Okada man was reported to have fell off the bike and died on the spot. In annoyance, the sources further informed that the dead Okada rider’s colleagues headed towards the police station, threatening to burn down the division, but in an attempt to scare them off, the Police were alleged to have released tear gas unto the rampaging crowd and shot into the air to scare them. Unfortunately, two members of the association were hit by the stray bullet, and are currently under intense treatment. The development further increased the already tensed situation as people had to scamper for safety while the road was deserted as the effect of the tear gas forced people off the area . When contacted, Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police, Adekunle Ajisebutu confirmed the death of the Okada rider, but denied being hit by the police. According to Ajisebutu, “due to a stop and search embarked upon by the Police, an Okada rider who was carrying three passengers refused to stop as ordered by the security officers. While trying to escape, he ran into a big pot hole, he fell sustained injury and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died. “As a result of this, other colleagues of the dead rider attacked an upcoming police patrol vehicle, and seized an AK-rifle which was later recovered. Not done with that, they headed straight to Moniya division police station, threatening to burn down the station. “The DPO of the station briefed that five suspects were arrested. There was no incident of shooting at any of them or case of them sustaining any injury. Later, the DPO held a peaceful meeting with their association and NURTW around the area. “Normalcy had since returned to the area as the Commissioner of Police enjoined the citizens to go about their normal duty without taken law into their hands.”

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS DAY- SHAME TO YOU SELF ACCLAIMED STUDENT COMRADES BY OMORILEWA TOMILOLA Yesterday November 17 was STUDENTS DAY all over the world and it making waves all around but to my deep surprise and regret, I noticed nothing is going on around the folks of students I belong to. Your campaign during your elections is not what you've been orchestrating since you all have been in Office....*None of you all could pass any message to Nigeria Student. WHAT A SHAME . No sensitization programs . No seminar . Nothing and Nothing. I had to wait to actually know if you will address Nigeria Students on this day but to my surprise with all your Grammars during the election so No plans for student, all you aimed at is the SEAT and riding the ALUTA JET ,moving from One politicians office to another, perpetuating your ways into them,Shopping, flooding your Facebook wall with Pictures......Oh what a world I remember the word of Pastor Chris Okotie...Student unionism is dead. I conclude my anotto that you all don't know what student means. Am still coming..... #Apostle #MEGA

Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has again appealed to striking workers in the state to suspend the one-month-old industrial action, calling on their leaders to meet with government representatives to share the available fund in the state’s coffers. The governor, who invoked the spirit of peace and dialogue, made the appeal in an interview with journalists shortly after observing prayers at the Eid ground on the occasion of the Eid El-Fitr, in Ibadan, on Wednesday. The governor stressed the need for labour to show understanding by coming to a roundtable to discuss the way forward on how the outstanding salaries of workers could be paid as well as the new education initiative of the state government. Ajimobi said “"I am using this opportunity to call on labour and all stakeholders in the state, including teachers, workers, students, traders even the thugs and brigands to come together and join hands with me to improve Oyo State. “Let us live peacefully among ourselves. We don’t want anything else, but peace. Where there is peace, there will be progress. Democracy is about dialogue, not about fighting. “We must come to the roundtable. So I am appealing to labour to imbibe peace and dialogue. We will pay outstanding salaries when we have the fund. But let them come so that we can sit together to discuss how to allocate the little money that we have now." The governor admonished Muslim faithful across the country to imbibe the lesson of the Holy month of Ramadan in their daily affairs, urging them to guard against returning to some of the sinful acts they dropped during the fasting. Ajimobi said, "We should not live differently from the way we lived during Ramadan. We must obey the tenets of Islam and its principles: to be nice to others, to be accommodating, have the fear of God, tell the truths at all times and avoid evil machinations and thuggery." In his message, the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheik Abubaker Agbotomokekere, similarly called on all Muslims not to go back to their sins which they left during the month of Ramadan. Harping on Islam as a religion of peace, the cleric urged Muslim adherents to live peacefully with brethren from other faiths and avoid utterances and actions capable of stoking the ember of religious crisis in any part of the state. Agbotomokekere prayed for the sustenance of peace, progress and development of the state. -- OYSG Communication Team |

LETTER TO LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT ON
ABROGATION OF STREET HAWKING : CONSEQUENCES
AND DANGER AHEAD BY OMORILEWA TOMILOLA
Your Excellency Sir,
I appreciate your concern towards the betterment of life of
every Lagosian; your performance within the few months of
assumption as the Lagos State Governor is an assurance of
a better life for Lagos and Lagosians in years to come. I
say more powers to your elbow sir!
It no longer a news that the Lagos State Government under
your instructions has abrogated street hawking in Lagos
State, yet, I hope you would reverse your decision after
reading my passionate Letter as a child who had the
opportunity of Tertiary Education through hawking
enterprise.
Hawking is a common phenomenon among petty traders
who vend and offer goods for sale via advertisement-by-
shouting. In some major cities of Nigeria, it has become an
Enterprise or a Craft through which poor people get their
daily meals. Indeed, I would have supported your opinion to
abrogate hawking, especially when we consider the risk and
danger attributed to underage hawking in Lagos. It is true
there had been occurrences where young hawkers were
kidnapped for ritual purposes, where female hawkers were
raped, where some were killed by hit-and-run vehicles on
the highway, where some had been used in syndicate
crimes, etc. Yet, it must be said that Hawking is an oxygen
through which some people live, remove it and so many
people will die; so many destinies will shatter. Ironically,
there are so many great people in power today who have
been clamouring for the abrogation of street hawking, who
were trained to greatness by their hawking parents.
Government can not provide everything for the people. It
should be noted therefore that the people also have
responsibilities to sustain themselves. Take for example,
Education has become expensive; it is even more expensive
now as against the assurances of free education and
scholarship we anticipated. And now that it is clear that
the Government is not interested in providing support
services for the people, won't it be tantamount to a sin if
the other means of livelihood of the people who wishes to
be educated is taking away from them?
If i may ask these few questions sir:
1. What other alternative means of living have you devised
for these hawking-dependants?
2. What palliative measures have you put in place for these
hawkers to cushion down the consequential effect of your
decision sir?
As we all know, high cost of living in Lagos-Nigeria has
astronomically gone up. Life in Lagos has become so costly
and the class of frustrated poor hawkers in Lagos may
begin to seek solace in illegality if you refuse to reverse and
modify your decision or if quick measures are not put in
place to pacify them sir.
I humbly urge you to quickly check into this matter before it
boomerangs Your Excellency.
Finally, let me suggest the following as ways forward:
1. Rather than totally abrogating the hawking enterprise in
Lagos State, the State Government can insist on the
prohibition of underage hawking while the adults can
continue with their petty businesses and means of
livelihood.
2. The Lagos State could bring up an agency such as the
Lagos State Agency on Vending and Hawking (LASAVAH).
This agency shall be saddled make policies and regulatory
laws on conduct and activities of the vending Hawkers in
Lagos.
3. The Lagos State Government can also embark on
Hawkers Census through which it could have the statistical
index of all hawkers in Lagos State, their data and location.
It is my belief and conviction as young student of
governance and public policy that these suggestions will in
no small measure assist the Lagos State Government and
the congregation of poor Lagos State Hawkers too.
God bless you

Good morning friends,
Edward Ogunniran was a student of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso
from the department of Transport Management (former
president FAMASSA). He needs our help as he is in a very
critical condition. He was knocked down by an unknown
vehicle (hit and run car ) on the evening of Thursday 19th
May, 2016 and he is still unconscious till now.
He needs 1.5 million naira to begin treatment. Pls any help
you can render will be highly appreciated....
Here is his brother's account number OGUNNIRAN TUNDE
0049761679 GTB.....No amount is too small. #saveEdward.
I honestly hate to do this, but Edward has left me with no
choice. He was a member of Anglican Students'
Fellowship. For verification purpose, he's currently at Molly
Specialist Hospital at Idi-Ape, in Ibadan, Oyo state.
Please help this young man.
FYI: He just graduated and he was probably in school for
his final clearance. The same LAUTECH that kept him on
campus until that fateful day has refused to assist. They
said he is a graduate and no longer a student of the
institution.
He was rushed to Lautech teaching hospital, but he was
not attended to because they were on strike. They from
there took him to Bowen Teaching Hospital, but they
wouldn't accept him too. They said his case was critical
and hence referred him to UCH. They journeyed to UCH, in
his poor state, but UCH wouldn't accept him either......fin
ally they took him to Molly Specialist Hospital where they
demanded 1.5m before anything can be done. Please help
this young man. Please.
Thank you.
This is not a scam. You can contact me personally for
more info or to verify the info.
