According to Jane's Armour and Artillery 2003–2004 Nigeria received 136 MBT Mk 3, 12 ARV and 26 AVLB delivered in 1983–1995

The JF-17 is not untested. Prior to air operations in Libya, the Gripen has also untested.

The JF-17 has confirmed Air-to-air kills and has been used in ground attack operations in Pakistan. It also can be paired with one of the world's best reconnaissance pods. We've all seen the quality of Aselpod and Turkish ISR assets in Syria.

The JF-17 would also soon be used in operations in Burma. It can be upgraded with AESA radar for improved Air-to-air and Air-to-ground capabilities, not like it's current radar isn't very capable for it's role.

If the JF-17 is low quality, so is the Gripen C/D, Tejas, FCk-1 from Taiwan other small birds in the light weight category.

Fact is given NAF's requirement for a Light Multi-rile fighter, the JF-17 was our most dependable first.

So of course it is only rational to conclude that the one we can vouch for is the better option. The little we know about the JF-17 doesn't even suggest that it surpasses the Gripen in any way. If the JF17 were so good, how come the Chinese are not ordering it in any significant quantity?.

in the first place why will any sane person be praising the decision of a government to buy a largely untested platform for its country. Usually when things like this happen it's because there are some mutually beneficial alliance underneath it. I sincerely don't know why a government that attends all the world's summits and conferences on defense and security cannot afford to secure a decent deal on defense procurement...

The soldiers are dying like flies, people are getting killed and someone is trying to defend the procurement of low quality platforms whose negotiation process alone is already five years in the making... You use 10 years to buy 6 Pakistani jet...
If this is what all our diplomacy can get us that it is safe to say that Nigerian geopolitics is very poor... Very very poor.
