Many aspiring abroadians do not know that abroad is filled with uncertainty.

Many marriages have been strained because of relocation. There was the case of a married man whose wife abandoned him because he could not provide after relocating abroad. He died in his tent in a biting cold during winter.

Only a numbskull would sell his child for relocation purposes. There is no guarantee of success after relocation. Even the local citizens are struggling to survive, then a foreigner thinks he is special because he is a foreigner. Just imagine.

If you are doing well in Nigeria, stay put, make money and send your children abroad to school. It is easier for your children to climb than it is for you at middle age.

You'd pay taxes. Some would argue that the taxes are working for the people. Well, I pay taxes that don't even apply to me. I paid unemployment tax, but when I became unemployed, I was denied unemployment benefits, despite paying for it. I cannot owe my landlord, they'd report me to the justice system which would create a negative record for me for credit, and applying for certain things.

I cannot speed anyhow or drive nonsense, I'd receive a fine. All roads are tolled, and if you don't pay, you can't pass. You must declare all your earnings annually, and if you hide an earning, and they find out, you'd receive a heavy fine. I received a fine that is the equivalent of 2.472 million naira in today's naira for making a mistake in my tax declaration. It took me 4 months of pain to pay that fine.

Food is outrageously expensive and when it is organic, it is over the roof. Food that can potentially hamper one's health are affordable.

Then loneliness is something else. Many have gotten into trouble for being unable to deal with it.

Security is not always top notch, but the media kills most of the stories in order to paint their country as being on top of things.

But roads are good, schools are working, transport is mostly okay, but everything comes at a heavy price.

I have been in a relationship with my fiancée for 3 yrs already to which she is pregnant for me at the moment! Though we have been together enjoying our relationship until recently I employed a new sales representative which is getting me confused.

Since the day I employed my sales girl, she had been handling my business perfectly even while I wasn’t around, she always defends me well, though I pay her well for this, but she had been managing the business like hers and she makes good return daily, besides she is also a good girl in management.

The relationship I have with my fiancée is getting to marriage soon but I feel recently am making a bad choice even though she is pregnant for me.

Recently, my sales girl profess love to me by telling me she really loves me and she has falling in love already, this makes her get pained seeing me and my fiancée together.
I had to explain to her that, I am the kind of person that is very loyal to my commitment, if we had met earlier, no one also would be able to take me away from her, so by that, I love her, but it’s late already as me and my wife has gone deeper and breaking up isn’t easy at these moment at all.

Recently, I found out my sales is already talking to different suitors which at times gives me bad feelings which makes me confused at the moment if I may loose her and this will definitely affect my business except I find someone better also.

This photo of Carter Bridge was taken in 1929, twenty eight years after the bridge was constructed in 1901. Carter Bridge is still standing today, 123 years later. If you zoom into the photo, you can see how heavily developed Lagos Island was in 1929. The place where the bridge ends in this photo is Idumota.

Carter Bridge was built by the then colonial Governor of Lagos, Sir Gilbert Thomas Carter, because of the heavy vehicular traffic in Lagos Island, which hitherto had to be ferried to Iddo in boats. As of 1901, there were actually more cars in Lagos than in the rest of Nigeria combined.

Mind you, this was long before oil was discovered in Nigeria. When Carter Bridge was completed, only Lagos, Ibadan, Lokoja, Kano, and Benin had sufficient municipal administration, population density, and infrastructural development to be called cities. Almost everywhere else, except for old Sokoto, Ile-Ife, Port Harcourt, Warri, Zungeru; and Abeokuta, were little more than large villages.

Anybody that came to Lagos after 1901 came to an already developed metropolis with bridges, expressways, hospitals, a city hall, a cathedral (Cathedral Church of Christ Marina), Nigeria's first electric power plant, built in Lagos in 1886, ports, courts, housing estates, public utilities, streetlights, sewage and drainages, and other modern infrastructure.

And it is sad that despite multiple photographic and video evidence, people still make unfounded and provocative claims about developing Lagos or that that space is a No Man's Land.

This photo is an almost 100 years old aerial image. It was taken from a plane, which means that Lagos had an airport (actually an airstrip) at that time. The people in those homes you see when you zoom in were mostly indigenous Lagosians. Appreciate them, and stop spitting on the faces of their ancestors by calling their land No Man's Land.

Look, I know it will annoy you, but the truth is bitter, but certainly better like butter in batter!
