jaryeh: He can say whatever he likes. All I know is their final decision is on a majority-carry-the-vote basis. And it's obvious that most academics are ready to go back to work.

when the strike is finally called off,he should resign and allow those who are ready to work to come and replace him.
Nice one
EducationASUU Unijos Vows To Continue Strike Despite Presidential Directives by Arlex(op): 10:29am On Nov 07, 2013
The University of Jos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has said it will not surrender, even if the receives the directive of the National President of the Union. Dr. David Janakam, the Chairman of
the UNIJOS chapter, stated this in an
interview in the capital city of Plateau
State – Jos. “The National President of ASUU
cannot ask us to call off just because
the Union has met with Mr. President.
We don’t operate that way. Whatever
agreement reached between the
national body and Mr. President will be a subject of discussion at local
branches. “We can only call it off when the local
branches give their acceptance to
whatever agreement reached with the
Federal Government in their last
meeting with President Jonathan. Dr. Janakam said ASUU members have
lost confidence in the Federal
Government when it comes to
agreement based on the lesson learnt
from the current strike adding that the
minutes of the last meeting with President Jonathan will be critically
reviewed. “If the local branches do not see any
seriousness in the contents of that
meeting, we will let our national body
know of our opinion accordingly. If
our response is positive, only then the
national body can announce that we have agreed to resume classes. “So, as far as this strike is concerned, it
is the members of ASUU nationwide
that can determine the end of the
strike, not the National President.
Leaders of various chapters of ASUU
cannot take decision on behalf of their members in this case. It is the
members themselves that should say it
is time to call off. So it is not a
leadership thing” said Dr. Jankam. “I’m just coming back from Abuja
where that National President and
zonal chairmen briefed us chairmen of
local chapters on their dialogue with
Mr. President. Back home we will
converge in our congress to discuss the issues. Whatever resolution
reached in our congress will be made
known to our national body. “This is going to be the processes for
calling off of this strike. That was why I
said this strike cannot be called off
with directive of ASUU President. It has
to be the other way round”. He said the congress of the UNIJOS
ASUU chapter has been scheduled for
Monday next week.

EducationRe: University Of Ibadan 2013/2014 Admission by Arlex(m): 7:44pm On Nov 04, 2013
Qassy4all: #20,000 ACCEPTANCE FEE UNACCEPTABLE
Greatest UItes! The attention of the
students' Union has been drawn to the
announcement of #20,000 acceptance fee
to be paid by the newly admitted students
of the university of Ibadan by the
university management. We have also
patiently examined the unpleasant
reactions of students towards this ultra-
geometric increase in the acceptance fee
and the fear it portends against next
session's school fees. Hence we wish to
make some clarification about our stand.
First, we wish to correct the egregiously
erroneous impression expressed from
some quarters that our sponsored trip to
the UK spells doom for subsequent
defense and protection of students right
and welfare. On the contrary, our sojourn
to be better leaders has only further
impressed the uncompromising 'students
first' stand at all time on us.
It should also be noted that at no point did
the management inform us about the
increment before they eventually
announced it, so to us too, it was a
shocker! Therefore, on our own part, even
beyond the demand of some students for
the justification of the increment, we see,
at least from our current understanding,
acceptance fee as arbitrary and accounting
for nothing that directly touch the welfare
of students. Thus, the tradition of
increasing such fee yearly is ungodly, and
becomes more dangerous to humanity
when such increase is as astronomical as
100%. Justifying the increment becomes
harder again when we note the recent
injection of billions into the university by
the FG for infrastructural development and
runnings of the institution.
Nevertheless, on our own part, and given
the complexity of our current circumstance
we have resolved to approach the issue at
hand pragmatically, involve the students
legislators, council of faculty presidents,
Hall Chairmen/chairpersons, past Union
leaders around and other stake holders
with a view to find a collective way
forward, while we open a line of dialogue
with the management.
We are encouraged by the resilience
against exploitation that you have strongly
expressed so far and we do solemnly
pledge that the representation of your
interest will continue to come first in our
priorities.
While we commend the University
Management for the support and
understanding granted this administration
so far, we do hope they will understand
our stand yet again and bring down to
status quo ante, the extraneous fee in the
interest of humanity and continuous
peaceful, harmonious and corporate
existence of our university community.

I wish i was given d admission,20k won't hav been mY problem,but thanks for ur gr8 concern.
