Just that i dont want to miss any info. cos i made a mistake on my mine. started with 4weeks old fish, fed them with coppens for 1 month and 2weeks only, changed to local. & now in there 4th month tru ur advise i changed back to coppens which is what i would have done from the onsent and it would ve cost me less compared to what the cost of feeding coppens now is. i have one question. what kind of disease does dirty water cause?

Dirty water can be becos of excessive algae blooms, and u are making a mistake abt this.I am nt answering ur questions on disease for now.

It basically has to do wit their weight.
Example if the weight of 1 fish is abt 11(g) use 2mm
Weight changes to abt 58(g) use 3mm. 132(/g) 4.5mm or mix wit 6mm like so on.anything aft 1.5kg use 8mm.

U hv to mind the size of the coppens u are using,it is will be very funny to use 2mm for 1kg size fish.

Weight of 1 fish*10%*total amount of fish u hv in ur pond, will give u d total amount u are suppose to feed them all per day.

akonucheinfo: @davi , base on your post it will be difficult to get good fish except if the farmer is sincere and just.cos nowadays everyone is out to maximize profit.But, re u saying buying post-fingerlings isnt good. Cos i bought mine when they are still 4weeks, well i was told so. From the look of things, there are alots to this fish buziness than just what people say. one have to be careful. tnx.

@jay , @ikooko , i really appreciate u guyz. First, i have been able to management the iron content in ma water.I notice tha
t the water treatment plant there has worn, so i disconnected it from the plant, as i speak now am pumping direct to my pond.

Also, By the Grace of God i changed to coppens yesterday and hope i will have the funds to feed them coppens for the remaining 2months before harvest.

I have a total of 3500 fish, by 2weeks time they will be 4months. i intend to feed them atleast 1bag of coppens a day for the remaining months before harvest. tnx.

And also sort them,they shudnt all be in d same pond.u will see results.

Yea if you fit drain water evry 2weeks e go pay u,I hear you boss,yea 1st harvest matter a lot no be small,so try as much as u can to sort o,becos for earthen pond u fit quick see d small fishes.

Try vital feed then,I can't guarantee results though.

Bros I hail o but u questions tire me o, where u dey buy ur fingerlings ask the bros for der make him help u weigh 1 or 2 fingerlings na,I no go lie u need a scale to aleast to dey measure quantity of feed you dey give them na,if na 1 earthern pond u get u no fit sort na,if for warri o na get drainage wey when u drain water e no go disturb the whole environment then draining water frm the pond shud be evry 2weeks,but guy get another pond o so u go fit they sort.

akonucheinfo: @jay, my farm is in Lagos, i use concrete pond. @ikooko, tnx. i got my fish from a reputable farmer in my area. health wise, i will rate them 80%. But, how do i check the source of the fish? pls clear me out

If in lagos then just treat ur water, they are a lot of labs,take a sample of ur water and test then they will tell u what chemical to use.

Am a little bit uncertain here, i want to change from a local feed to foreign feed,as @jay advised.but, i want to limit the feeding to twice dairly to minimize my cost. Will it be ok if i feed my fish 2 times a day? And will they respond the way i want? If am to feed my fish only 2 times a day, when is the perfect time to feed them in a day? Morning & night or noon and night? Pls advise....@jay ur comment on this will be highly welcomed too.tnx

Best time to feed frm 10am to 1pm,I am skeping questn 2, u shud knw,que 3 = the weight of 1 fish * 8-10% * 1000 is what 1000 would eat per day * by 7 u shud get ur ans boss, pls go back And do a training o boss.ur questions are veri funny.

Yes it is possible to get good result frm now till july when u want to sell,plus ur water has to be treated,it is nt abt hw many times u feed it is when u feed,and hw u feed,too much feed will pollute the water,coppens is abt 5000k per bag it depends on where ur farm is boss, I am sùre there will be some place u can get it in ur area boss.

U mix it urself or some1 tells u he does that for you! Use 32kg - 42kg. Of fish meal jare.

Coppens becos it makes them grow,no other foreign feed I know tht works as coppens does, you can experiment.I would have said use a local feed tht has more fish meal but since u already use tht and it didn't work, I suggest change to coppens, and by the way are u sure they mix ur formula wit more of fish meal?

akonucheinfo: thankx sorry 4 not being on line. I was out in search 4 solution 2my water. (by water problem,i meant iron content & pumping issues).i have been managing with the iron content in the water My Pumping machine break down, &the repair cost is on the high side. Dont know where to get a better & affordable pumping machine now. As for the growth level,i feed them 3times dairly but not certified with the level they are now cos they are in the 4th mont already. i will appreciate if someone can assist me with a better feeding formula, cos i want to possibly sale them off at the middle of july @ a target of 1kg &

Geez,did u really do a lot of research b4 u started fish farming, I dbt, iron content can be treated just go to a plumber, they sell a chemical for tht it isn't tht expensive, for pumping machine get a plumber to get a cheaper 1 for you, feeding,it is obvious by now that formula doesn't work for you CHANGE TO COPPENs.

akonucheinfo: Please i want some one to help here. am confused, i started fish biz just this january 2012, through a friend who is into it as well. My problem is water, and feeding frequent without seeing the growth.

As i speak, i have roughly spent 500k, and they are in the 4th month, yet i hardly see 1kg. am not impressed with the growth considering how much i have put into it. I have been using a local feed formulation. dont know if thats where the problem is. but in my fomulation i have more of FISH MEAL, SOYA MEAL, GNS, AND INDOMIE. it seem i will paste my formulation here when next i come. pls advise. i need them to be atleast 1kg in the 4th month or 5th month at most. i need all the help i can get. tnx all

Hello boss, if I read this well your problem is water? And u don't feed them frequently?

Ok pls weigh abt 5 to 10 of ur fishes this is to know if there are dwarfs or nt.

* num 2, sort the ones u see hv grown a bit into a seperate pond.

3*Try coppens. And remove indomie from them formula.

4* Test ur water.

ikooko: Hello @ poster, i commend your efforts so far i'll love to add my voice to this thread for the benefit of all especially those interested in fish farming for quick profit.
two most important things required for sucessful fish farming are: stable source of water supply and your total commitment, as modern research as shown wide deviation from what fish farming used to be in the past.
If ure interested in any other aquaculture other than earthy ponds you must be certain to replace your water every other day, water level must be 4ft for easy food conversion. it means that if you have a 10*10 concrete or plastic tank, u'll need about 20000lts of water or more every 2days. If earthy pounds, considerarion must be given to drain pipes, polluttion and water replenishment. nature of soil, pond pollution and diseace outbreak determine whether pond water will be changed or not.
On feeding, technology has also shown that feeding pattern determines output reason why some farmers can bost of 1kg-2kg within 3months, needless to say their food connsumption is directly proportional to their sizes which varies from week to week. Also feeding pattern is very important especially when u change from floating to sinking feeds, if care is not taken you may just be wasting your feeds thinking ure feeding your fishes.
There is no hard and fast rule as to the best time for feeding. personal experience has shown that fish responds to feeding at nights as much as they do during the day, but how many fish farmers can do that except few backyard farmers like me.
Lastly the majority size of your fish at crop determine the price/kg. if 70% of your fish is 0.8kg upwards, ure likely to get btw 400 & 500/kg but if 70% are arround 0.7kg your maket price should be arround 300-400/kg
