deandavid: hey hey, armyjay why do you need this, if you have the biodisc? I thought with the disc, every test or defect in the water will be corrected.

Well since a lot of people don't believe in using the disc,I tot if mr aquatic posted the price,it wud be nice for all to see,And tell me exactly how I implied I wanted to get them?

aquatic1: Water is fish and fish is water, if the water is not okay, that's when you fish your fish dying or not swimming well you need to test your water everyday, because its PH can change any time, likewise the ammonia and the nitrate, especially for those that do fingerlings production, some will just wake up and find massive death of fish, and if you look closely if not the feed you are giving them, it wi
ll be the water, the PH of water is very important in fish farming, we have the test kit for sale, you can even go for the PH monitor kit, which will be monitoring your water for you everyday without you doing it.

It wud be vry difficult to wash the tank witj the fishes inside,so if possible transfer them and dnt wash wit dertergent,yes it is possible to rear them to abt 1kg only and only if the tank is spacious.

It basically depends on u,but wht u shud knw is tht fishes need space so if the tank is spacious then yes.change the water once in 2days and wash d tank evry 1ce a month boss.

I have been having about 500 fish at most time for the past 5yrs,----- YOU can't make nada if u sit in ph wit 500fishes boss,so u learnt nothing frm breeding fishes for the past 5yrs geez.
I want to get practical experience from practical people.
Note :
Fish breeders make a kill from fingerling sales.
Feed seller make --------average sales
Market women make a kill-----------
Small farmers-------make-----------dat stay in ph make nothing.
I want to hear farmers that have grown less than 2000fish for 5yrs to contribute to this.

Point of correction I never wrote buy bio-disc frm me boss. B4 bio-disc came I am sure people where still breeding fishes.I started this topic to help people.it beats if people read my posts.Come to lagos,or ibadan or even abeokuta where water isn't polluted.

santuse: I don't think the calculations u gave about feeding 1000 catfish is correct. I have a fish farm with a stock of 1000 catfish i bought as juveniles. So don't try to scare people away with those feeding calculations. I use copens i started with 3mm and it lasted for one week and one day. Then moved to 4.5mm copens it has lasted one week today.

Ok let me write it again for the last time, it depends on how big you want ur fish to grow mr started wit 3mm.

Coppens = 15kg or 1500g so if ur coppens lasted for 1week that means you fed d whole 1000 fishes 214g of feed per day.geez goodluck wit making ur fishes grow.

Hi boss, fingerlings are fishes that are aft birth about 1week to about 3weeks old, while juveniles are 4weeks to abt 6weeks aft birth.

Yes they will grow in concrete ponds as long as it is spacious.

To neutralise the cement such tht they don't hv any harmful effect on your fishes,
Use dis method which ever suits you boss.

A faster method is to use muratic acid. Briskly scrub all surfaces of the pond with this solution using a brush or broom. The cement may buble some as the lime works free. This will not harm the pond. Mix more solution if needed being sure to reach all surfaces. Rinse the pond thoroughly, drain and refill. Your pond is now ready for your catfish.

Or lime the new Concrete pond, u can get lime from plumbers,

Or wash with vingear or palm oil. Then lime.

No, the water can't be too hot for the fishes.In their natural habitat they aren't protected.it is only hot on d surface.

The best time to sort is evry first week in a new month.yes they eat them selves.

I have bio disc for sale, it basically helps retain oxygen in water which ur fishes need.

1 time a week if wooden pond if earthen pond after liming the pon, and u dnt hv to change till u harvest. Let me knw if u require any more info boss.

Your second production won't need a huge capital like the 1st time, imagine what u would make as profit!

Thus a fish farm is not financially viable if you are on a farm less than 5000 fish and buying feed ecept you can make yours at a cheaper rate.

you hv 3 wooden ponds---- 260-300k ( it is far less than that though)
you have good supply of water or else use bio-disc- 70k
you stock 2000 fishes - 60k 30naira for 1 combo juveniles
feeding for about 4-5months shud be abt 320 - 400k

if you sort well and feed well(not rubbish formulas) plus good source of water supply or the use of bio-disc your fishes will grow.

sales if 1000 of the 2000fishes grow to about 1.5kg to 2.kg that is abt 2000*500= 1m naira. probably the other 500-1000 fishes are smaller or weigh less than 1.2kg in addition to the 1m you hv extra.

The way u calculate feeding is so wrong 1kg = 260naira

It is very profitable if you get it right,I mean if you know hw to go about it,It is best to start on a small scale when u are just starting.Refer to the 1st page of this post.
