I moved into this neighbourhood just recently. It's a small gated compound with just two flats. The other flat is occupied by a newly wedded couple. I had taken one week off from the office to enable me move my things and settle.

But there's something about this couple; they are so noisy when making love - so loud you could think we are in the same room. That is not all, the few days I have stayed at home have been full of temptation, because I have noticed to my dismay that this lady wears very skimpy and offensive stuff outside their flat and doesn't even carry herself as a married woman.

Now my question is: should I call the man and talk to him about the noise and all, or should I keep my peace and suffer in silence?

Roseline Akhalu, the Nigerian woman who was diagnosed with kidney failure a few months after arriving in the UK in 2004, had a successful transplant, then claimed she would die within weeks if she was sent back to Nigeria, has won the right to remain in the UK following a successful appeal.

UK Border Agency initially rejected Roseline's appeal to remain in the UK after her transplant in 2009, saying 'the care of a foreign individual was the responsibility of their state of nationality'. Roseline's lawyers argued she would die within weeks if she was returned to Nigeria as she would never be able to afford the drugs that keep her alive.

The 49-year-old widow needs regular hospital checks and will have to take immuno-suppressant drugs for the rest of her life. Now she's free to stay in the UK and get free medical treatment.

The Senate passed a resolution on Thursday empowering it and the House of Representatives to take over the legislative functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

In the resolution which concurs with that of the House on July 10, the Senate also flayed the attempt by five anti-Rotimi Amaechi lawmakers to impeach the state Assembly Speaker, Otelemaba Amachree.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Media, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, said after the decision that a meeting between the President of the Senate, David Mark, and the Speaker of the House, Aminu Tambuwal, would be held to draw up modalities for the running of the assembly.

Abaribe, in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja, explained that with the concurrence which is in line with Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution, the activities of the state legislature stood suspended.

He said, “As it stands now, the Rivers State House of Assembly has been suspended by virtue of the fact that it can no longer carry out its legislative functions.

“The principal officers of both chambers of the National Assembly will meet to discuss and agree on the procedures for running the assembly.

“From there, we will await subsequent instructions from the Chairman of the National Assembly.”

Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution states, “At any time when any House of Assembly of a state is unable to perform its functions by reason of the situation prevailing in that state, the National Assembly may make such laws for the peace, order and good government of that state with respect to matters on which a House of Assembly may make laws as may appear to the National Assembly to be necessary or expedient until such time as the House of Assembly is able to resume its functions; and any such laws enacted by the National Assembly pursuant to this section shall have effect as if they were laws enacted by the House of Assembly of the state: Provided that nothing in this section shall be construed as conferring on the National Assembly power to remove the governor or the deputy governor of the state from office.”

The Senate Committee on State and Local Governments which investigated the crisis in the assembly had presented its report during plenary in Abuja. It recommended that the assembly be taken over and fingered President Goodluck Jonathan, his wife, Patience, and the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party for being behind it.

The committee recommended, “That the National Assembly should, as a matter of urgency, take over the functions and duties of the Rivers State House of Assembly, pursuant to Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution(as amended) pending the resolution of the crisis and restoration of peace in Rivers State.”

Senators, in a voice vote, passed the resolution without any dissenting voice.

The same was the case for the two other prayers which are:

* “That the Inspector-General of Police should as a matter of urgency, redeploy the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu, since his relationship with Governor Amaechi had broken down irretrievably and;

*“That the Senate President should intervene and mediate in the Rivers State political crisis and see to its amicable resolution.”

Although the recommendations were 17, the committee had to reduce them to three after meeting behind closed doors for about five hours.

The recommendation not taken was the prayer that the Director-General of the Department of Security Service should “investigate and cause the prosecution of Chidi Lloyd (Majority Leader of the state assembly) and all those found to be actively involved in attacking Michael Chinda and other members of the assembly.”

The panel also urged the DSS to investigate and recommend for necessary disciplinary action, the officers and men of the police and other security personnel that invaded the assembly’s chambers. Besides, it recommended that Evans Bipi, who led the anti-Amaechi legislators “ be investigated and if found culpable, prosecuted for bringing armed thugs into the chambers and for the assault on the Speaker and other members of the assembly which precipitated the crisis.”

The committee also called on the different stakeholders to take steps to restore peace to the state, especially as it affects the relationship between the Governor and the Police as well as between him (Amaechi) and other political stakeholders in the state.

In its findings, the committee observed that “The crisis in the assembly on July 9, 2013 was the expression of deep-rooted political crisis occasioned by the alleged highhandedness of Governor Amaechi and the perceived undue interference with the political and security structure of the state by the President, his wife and the national leadership of the PDP.”

The panel reported, “The purported impeachment of the Speaker by the five members led by Bipi was not in compliance with the provisions of Section 92(2)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and also not in compliance with Orders 12 and 28 of the state assembly Standing Orders 1999.”

While presenting the report, Chairman of the Senate Committee, Senator Kabiru Gaya, said he was summarising the prayers to three as advised.

After concluding his presentation, he advised that the security operatives withdrawn from Amaechi be restored but senators did not make comments after the presentation.

President of the Senate, David Mark, in his remark, said the Senate was only committed to restoring peace to the state.

He said, “As our desire to ensure peace returns to Rivers State, let me add that the National Assembly will uphold, defend and protect the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as we have all individually sworn to do. And this we will do at all times and at all costs.

“Minority members of the Rivers State House of Assembly cannot remove and should not contemplate the removal of the Speaker or anyone else for that matter and should perish the thought if they ever haboured it.

“Our institutions of state should also uphold the constitution at all times and should not in any way encourage the impression that the impunities of the past are possible today. This National Assembly, for the avoidance of doubt, will resist impunity and unconstitutionality. This is the stand of the Senate.”

He said the committee had not indicted anyone and that the Senate remained neutral in its effort to find a lasting solution to the problem.

In Port Harcourt, the state assembly condemned the continued detention of Lloyd by the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

This happened at Kings of Queens Hotel located at 11, Otunba Oladokun Street, Lanre Bus Stop, Igando, Lagos State, last weekend.

reports that the male lover had taken his married girlfriend identified as Glory Abbey to a popular hotel where she died during sex romp between the lovers.
The yet to be identified man quietly abandoned her corpse in the room they lodged and fled without informing the hotel’s management about what happened.

According to the hotel’s manager identified as Saliu, the woman came to the hotel with the young man, booked a room and went in.

“After staying for several hours in the room the man came out and told the security men that he wanted to buy food outside and he did not return to the hotel,” he said.

They later discovered the woman lying dead on the bed in the room.

Saliu said he did not see any physical injury she sustained and could not explain what really caused her death.

The owner of the hotel, Otunba Richard Oladokun, who also confirmed the incident, expressed shock over what happened.

He said he was informed about what happened on phone by his manager and he went to the police station at Igando and reported the matter.
He said he came with the police to the hotel and found the woman lying dead on the bed and the police took away her corpse to the mortuary.

Oladokun said what surprised him most was that the young man who brought the woman to the hotel initially picked his calls and promised to come back but did not. Rather, he later switched off his phone and no one has been able to contact him again since the incident happened.

Nobody has been able to contact the woman’s husband or relatives as there is no address to trace them at the time of this report.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, described Glory’s death as sudden and unnatural.
She said her body has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy, while the police have since commenced investigation into the matter.

Cause of her death is still unknown.

Following an official statement released a few hours ago by Funke Akindele's camp confirming the end of her one year marriage, the star actress has removed her estranged husband's name, Oloyede, from all her social media accounts.

She's also spoken for the first time about the end of her marriage. She told Stella Dimoko Korkus:

First of all let me clarify that I have not replied any SMS or spoken to anyone on this development before now and neither have I threatened to sue anyone. I do not know who sent out that SMS denying that my marriage is over. That was what necessitated me sending out a press release so as not to confuse the public, especially my fans whom I'm so passionate about.

Yes my marriage has crashed. Let the people who are laughing at me continue laughing. My job afterall is to make people laugh. Let those who are without sins or mistake cast the first stone. Let them continue judging me. God is the overall judge. He is the one I look up to.

The Nigerian Senate includes some of the brightest minds in our country many of whom are friends of mine and most of whom have been in active politics for many years. They have my respect. However what transpired in the Senate chamber a few days ago was a great cause for concern for not just me but millions of Nigerians from all over the world. How an innocent and seemingly uninteresting, uninspiring and unimportant debate about when and at what age a Nigerian citizen could legitimately and lawfully renounce his or her citizenship turned into a referendum on paedophilia and child marriage I dont know. Yet sadly that is precisely what happened and ever since then the nation has been on fire.

Senator (ex-Governor) Ahmed Sani, the Yerima Bakura and the Apostle of political sharia in Nigeria finally got his way and the futile attempt by a small number of good, noble and honourable Senators to amend the existing law on marriage and properly define the age of a female that is eligible to marry was thwarted by the pro-paedophilia, pro-child rape and pro-child marriage group within the Senate. Sadly our distinguished Senators eventually bowed to the will of Yerima and his friends and agreed to remain silent about the age that young girls can get married in Nigeria. What this means is that girls that are as young as 9 years old can continue to be lawfully bedded and married in our country providing they are deemed as being ''physically developed enough'' to do so by their suitors, their prospective husbands and their parents. That is the law and that is the sordid level that we as a people and as a nation have degenerated to over the years.

I weep for Nigeria and, perhaps more appropiately, I weep for the Nigerian girl child. I weep because it is obvious to me that the Yerima's of this world wish to turn our country into a giant Bangkok to which millions of sexual deviants flock from all over the world to ''enjoy'' our ''tourist attractions'' and ''have a taste'' of our young and beloved children. Worst still they wish to use religion to defend and justify it. Yet we have no choice but to live with this new reality and to accept it as it is. After all, our representatives in the sacred halls of the Senate were not sensitive enough or ''man enough'' to shoot down the whole thing, to stand firmly against the unholy agenda and to say boldly and firmly that ''come what may'' our children must be protected from sexual deviants and reprobates.

And since the Senate, in its infinate wisdom, has now bought into and openly endorsed the "Paedophile Charter" which essentially makes it lawful and constitutional for very young girls to get married and to have sex at a very young age it is my firm view that we have now become a nation of perverts and paedophiles. The Senate had a chance to clear the air and amend the law but, out of nothing but sentiment and an inexplicable eagerness to compromise with that which is clearly evil, they threw that chance away and sacrificed our most sacred values to Yerima and his gang. Worst still they did it with a smile on their faces. Every Nigerian should bow his or her head in shame because instead of crushing the head of the lustful beast that seeks to fornicate with our children, to steal their virtues and to destroy their future what the Senate did the other day was to compromise with and cater for the filthy appetites and godless fantasies of a bunch of child molestors and sexual predators. It is sordid. It is ungodly. It is evil. And it is unforgiveable.

Surely we ought to be seeking to protect our children and not seeking to bed them. Yet it appears that not everyone shares our outrage and collective sense of shame. One Uche Ezechukwu made the following contribution which went viral on the social media networks and which I think speaks volumes. He wrote-

"Those who are railing against 'paedophile' senators, like Yerima Bakura, must be told that a muslim can’t go wrong while imitating the examples of the Apostle of Allah himself and the founder of his religion, in the same way a christian cannot be criticized for following the examples of Jesus Christ. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) married Aisha at the age of six and consummated the marriage when she was nine. So, why are we judging muslims by our own standards?"

I am appauled by these words. The truth is that I have never heard such a self-serving and specious arguement in defence of the philosophies and beliefs of the Ayatollah of Bakura, Senator Ahmed Sani, the practising paedophile who married and bedded a 12 year old Egyptian girl, as this one. Ahmed Sani himself could not have argued it better. Yet I think that it is an utter shame. And this is more so because the individual that is putting the arguement is supposedly a christian. The Old Testament of the Holy Bible prescribes ''stoning'' for adultry but that does not mean that christian countries, or indeed secular states like Nigeria, should stone adulterers.

Neither does it mean that we should preserve the institution of slavery or crucify petty thieves simply because the Holy Bible endorsed both practices in the Old Testament. We must accept the fact that the interpretation of biblical and koranic provisions are evolutionary and are ever changing. Jesus Himself said ''laws are made for man and not man for laws''. The suggestion that paedophilia has any place in any modern and decent society simply because it was once practised in the distant past is not only a despicable arguement but it also does not make any sense. After all cannibalism and child and human sacrifice were once widely practised and were held as being perfectly acceptable throughout the world as well but that does not mean that we should practice any of those terrible vices today.

The young man, Uche Ezechukwu, who appears to be defending child rape in the name of islam, should either let someone lay with and ''marry'' his own 6 or 9 year old daughter or he should seal his lips forever and stop trying to defend the indefensible. His assertions, and I daresay those of Senator Ahmed Sani and anyone that shares their primitive views, are not only utterly immoral and reprehensible but they are also intellectually dishonest. I say this because the truth is that there is NO muslim country in the world that has adopted the "paedophile charter" where 6 or 9 year olds can marry and be bedded except for Saudi Arabia, Iran and Yemen.

Every other muslim country in the world, including Turkey, Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Egypt, Jordan, Senegal, the Sudan, Tunisia, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Palestine, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Qatar, Bahrain, Dagestan, Albania, Bosnia, Somalia, Algeria, Libya, Mali, Azerbejhan,Niger, Turkestan, Chechnya and Syria have specifically banned child marriage, paedophilia and child rape in their various constitutions and laws and some have declared it ''repugnant'', ''unacceptable'' and ''unislamic''. Are these people not muslims too? As a matte if fact are they not better muslims than those that insist on sleeping with or marrying underage girls in the name of islam?

Like christianity and judaism, islam is a noble, pure, honourable and ancient faith that seeks to protect the weakest and most vulnerable in society, including children. No-one should use the misinterpretation of its provisions to try to justify or rationalise what is essentially depraved, shameful, disgusting and barbaric behaviour and the most sordid and filthy expression of sexual deviance and perversion. Even animals do not marry or bed their own infants. The bitter truth is that paedophiles have no place in any civilised society.

I am constrained to say that in the light of their "yes" vote to child marriage and their green light to paedophilia, every single member of the Nigerian Senate that voted with Yerima on that day and that supported his filthy agenda should bow their heads in utter shame and they should be compelled to offer their own infant and under age daughters to strangers for marriage. I repeat, they have turned us into a nation of perverts and paedophiles and I say a pox on all their houses. I reserve my commendations and respect only for those Senators that opposed and voted against Yerima's protestations and agenda and that stood for that which was right even though they could not muster enough votes to have their way. My word to this brave and righteous few is simple and clear- keep the struggle alive and continue to resist the evil that resides amongst us all. You are the only thing that stands between our children and the practising paedophiles in our midst who seek to ravage and bed them even before they have entered their teens.
