Lionel Messi scored a sensational hat-trick to seal Major League Soccer’s Golden Boot award on Saturday as Inter Miami roared into the playoffs with a 5-2 victory over Nashville SC.

The Argentine superstar tallied an astonishing 29 goals from 28 matches, with Los Angeles FC’s Denis Bouanga and Nashville’s Sam Surridge tied for second best with 24 goals.

Messi claimed his first MLS Golden Boot and also staked his claim to a second straight Most Valuable Player award with a bravura performance that saw Inter rally to clinch third place in the Eastern Conference.

They’ll face the same Nashville team in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs starting on October 24.

“What can I say about Leo?” Inter coach Javier Mascherano said. “Today, he was exceptional, as he usually is. Surely he will be awarded the Most Valuable Player award for what he has demonstrated.

“I’m happy for him because he has helped us win the match once again.”

Nashville had seen some quality chances go begging when Messi put Miami in front in the 34th minute with a cracking goal from outside the penalty area.

Messi took a pass from Jordi Alba and made one cut before he unleashed a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner.

Nine minutes later, Nashville’s Surridge grabbed his 24th goal of the season when he headed in a pinpoint delivery from Hany Mukhtar at the near post.

Nashville seized a 2-1 lead deep in first-half injury time when Jacob Shaffelburg was there to fire home the rebound off a Mukhtar shot that hit the post.

Messi’s first penalty conversion of the season pulled Inter level in the 63rd.

The referee pointed to the spot after a ball deflected by Luis Suarez hit Mukhtar on the arm.

Messi stepped up and rolled it past Nashville keeper Joe Willis.

After Baltasar Rodriguez made it 3-2 to Miami in the 67th, Messi completed his hat-trick in the 81st with a curling shot through traffic and past Willis.

Miami’s Telasco Segovia completed the scoring against a shell-shocked Nashville in second-half injury time.

– Great level –

“In the first half, it was very tough for us; we lacked intensity,” Mascherano said.

“We defended very deeply, and with the ball, we didn’t have many ideas either.

“The second half was different. We played in the opponent’s half, took more risks, and finished at a great level.”

There was plenty up for grabs in the final Western Conference games of the season.

Expansion club San Diego FC pipped Thomas Mueller’s Vancouver Whitecaps for top seed in the West as their 4-0 victory over the Portland Timbers, coupled with Vancouver’s 2-1 loss to Dallas, left them tied on 63 points.

Amahl Pellegrino and Anders Dreyer scored two goals apiece for San Diego, who topped the conference on a tiebreaker to complete the best regular season for a debut franchise in MLS history.

Dallas, who were among four teams chasing the last two Western Conference playoff berths, had goals from Osaze Urhoghide and Kaick in their victory in Vancouver.

Mueller scored a penalty, but the Whitecaps played most of the match with 10 men after Mathias Laborda was sent off in the 11th minute.

Dallas and Vancouver will meet again in the first round of the playoffs.

Real Salt Lake also qualified for the playoffs with a 2-2 draw at St. Louis, coupled with Colorado’s 2-2 draw with Los Angeles FC.

*RT. HON. EMEKA MARTINS CHINEDU HONOURED BY MBAISE SECONDARY SCHOOL OLD BOYS ASSOCIATION, ABUJA BRANCH*

The serene ambience of the BMT African Garden and Resort, Wuse II, Abuja, came alive on Saturday, October 18, 2025, as the Mbaise Secondary School Old Boys Association, Abuja Branch, held its 2025 Banquet and Awards Night in grand style.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Outstanding Service Award to Rt. Hon. Emeka Martins Chinedu, Member representing Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency, in recognition of his remarkable commitment to public service. This honour reflects his visionary leadership and people-centered representation, which continue to set a high standard for responsible governance in Nigeria’s legislature.

In the citation preceding the presentation, Rt. Hon. Chinedu was described as a model legislator who transforms public trust into tangible results. His commitment to educational advancement, human capital development, and rural transformation was emphasized, particularly his self-funded renovation and upgrade of the Principal’s House at Mbaise Secondary School, Aboh Mbaise, a project that has markedly improved the school’s administrative efficiency and learning environment.

In his response, Rt. Hon. Chinedu expressed heartfelt appreciation to the association for the recognition, describing it as both humbling and inspiring. He remarked, “The reward for hard work is more work. As we say at home, ‘A si, e mema onye akidi, ya a gwota ozo,’ when a man is appreciated, he is inspired to do even better.”

He dedicated the award to Commander Julius Nwagwu (DCG Rtd), fondly known as Dee Julius, recognizing him as the man who first brought the project to his attention, not asking for personal favours or benefits but simply insisting that the school’s property be properly taken care of out of genuine love for the institution and for Mbaise as a whole.

Rt. Hon. Chinedu was accompanied to the event by Chief Charles Ohajianya, Dr. Kechere Isaac, Efereishi Ferdinand Ohalee, and others who joined him in celebrating this well-deserved honour.

The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, FAS, commended Rt. Hon. Chinedu for his immense contributions to the Mbaise nation and for exemplifying the enduring values of excellence, integrity, and commitment that define the school’s heritage.

The event, chaired by AIG Charles Ugomuoh (Rtd), brought together distinguished alumni, friends, and guests in a celebration that rekindled fond memories while reaffirming the spirit of service, leadership, and brotherhood that Mbaise Secondary School continues to inspire.

PoliticsRe: Mass Defections: Tinubu's 2027 Election Secret Deals Exposed by AsabaPropertyAg(m): 8:55pm On Oct 17, 2025
I am not surprise to read about the agreement reached between President Tinubu and the first term Governors, the next agreement will be the national assembly.

truthera:
Since Tinubu took office, several governors from Southern Nigeria have defected to the ruling APC.

Fresh details have emerged revealing how President Bola Tinubu struck a secret deal with some Southern governors to conduct all elections in one day in November 2026.

SaharaReporters learnt that it is part of a broader plot to tighten control over Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the next general polls.

Multiple credible sources told SaharaReporters that the ongoing wave of defections by governors, lawmakers, and top politicians to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was not coincidental but part of an understanding reached during a closed-door meeting between Tinubu and several Southern governors.

Since Tinubu took office, several governors from Southern Nigeria have defected to the ruling APC.

For instance, in April 2025, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, along with his deputy and commissioners, left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC.

Delta State, a PDP stronghold since 1999, had never seen such a shift in its top leadership. The move was described by President Tinubu as a “political tsunami” and was celebrated by APC leaders as a major victory.

Oborevwori’s predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, also defected to the APC, further deepening the party’s grip on the state.

In Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah made headlines when he defected to the APC in October 2025.

Like Delta, Enugu had been under PDP control since the return to civilian rule in 1999.

Bayelsa State also joined the trend, with its governor recently resigning from the PDP.

According to insiders, Tinubu assured the governors seeking re-election that his government would guarantee their return to office if they dumped their parties and joined the APC.

In exchange, the governors reportedly proposed that all elections, that is, presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly, be held on the same day or that the presidential election be conducted last to prevent post-election betrayal.

Sources said Tinubu agreed to the one-day election proposal.

“The mass exodus of politicians to Tinubu’s APC party was hatched after a secret meeting with Southern governors, where he promised to guarantee their re-election if they all joined the APC,” one of the sources said.

“In turn, they also proposed to him that all elections should be held in one day or that the presidential election should come last so as to forestall any betrayal. Tinubu purportedly agreed to conduct the elections in one day."

According to sources, the President also consented to doing away with the electronic transmission of results from polling units, one of the key transparency features of the 2022 Electoral Act.

Instead, results would be transmitted only from collation centres, a move observers believe would make manipulation easier at the state level.

“They agreed to do away with electronic transmission of results, but have that done at the collation centres, not the polling units,” one of the sources said.

The idea is to have total control of the electoral process and avoid situations where early results influence later elections or spark rebellion among allies.

The plan also includes shifting the general elections from the usual February–March schedule to November 2026.

Meanwhile, the development reportedly led to a major fallout between the Tinubu administration and the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

According to Presidency sources, Yakubu was offered an extension of his tenure to ensure his cooperation with the 2026 plan, but he declined.

His recognition of the takeover of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and move to register new political parties infuriated powerful figures within the President’s inner circle.

The hawks in Tinubu’s kitchen cabinet reportedly mounted intense pressure on him, leading to his abrupt exit from the Commission.

“He offended the Tinubu government with his move to register new parties and also recognising the takeover of ADC. The ferocious way the hawks in Tinubu’s kitchen cabinet came after him forced him out of INEC abruptly, leading to his resignation,” one of the sources said.

The Senate on Thursday confirmed Prof. Joash Amupitan as the new INEC Chairman after a screening session and voice vote by lawmakers.

Earlier, SaharaReporters exclusively reported that concerns within the Presidency drove Yakubu’s exit from the Commission a month before he was due to retire.

First, he was reportedly working to register new political parties before the end of his tenure, a move said to have unsettled Tinubu’s inner circle.

Second, there were fears that he could not be “trusted” to deliver outcomes favourable to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in both the new party registration process, if at all it happens, and the upcoming Anambra election.

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma was said to have personally taken the matter to President Tinubu after returning from his recent overseas trip, warning that Yakubu’s continued stay could “destabilise” the APC’s plans for the 2027 electoral cycle.

Uzodinma also reported to Tinubu that Yakubu was planning to impose a close friend in Imo State, and part of the plan was to register a party he could use.

Following this meeting, Tinubu reportedly directed Yakubu to stop performing any official INEC duties and to proceed on terminal leave. However, a leak published by SaharaReporters reportedly forced a brief delay in the announcement of his removal.

MBAISE STAKEHOLDERS STAND IN SOLIDARITY AS BILL FOR FEDERAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNICAL AND SKILLS ACQUISITION ADVANCES AT NATIONAL ASSEMBLY.

Today, Monday, 13th October 2025, I had the honour of presenting before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Alternative Education and the South-East Development Commission, the Bill for an Act to establish the Federal Institute of Technical and Skills Acquisition, Mbaise, Imo State (HB. 2342).

The public hearing, chaired by Hon. (Arc.) Ibrahim Almustapha Aliyu, fnia and Hon. Chris Nkwonta, provided a platform for robust engagement on this visionary initiative aimed at equipping our youths with practical skills for innovation, productivity, and self-reliance.

I was deeply inspired by the presence of well-meaning sons and daughters of Mbaise who turned out in solidarity. Their commitment reaffirms Mbaise’s enduring spirit of unity, intellect, and progress.

Distinguished community leaders, including Surveyor (Sir) Joe Anosike (President General, Ezuruezu Mbaise) and Dr. Isaac Kechere (President, Ugwu Mbaise, Abuja), delivered strong presentations that captured the aspirations of our people and highlighted the national significance of the Bill.

This Bill is not just legislation; it is a commitment to empower our youths and a pathway to economic transformation. When established, the Institute will train skilled manpower in carpentry, building technology, electrical works, tailoring, ICT, and other vital vocational areas essential to national development.

At the close of the hearing, our memorandum was formally submitted, with assurances that the Bill will advance to its Third Reading and final passage.

On behalf of the good people of Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency, I express my profound gratitude to everyone who stood with us in Abuja and beyond.
Once again, Mbaise has shown that united, we are unstoppable.

SportsRe: Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Unfortunate Penalty Record Once Held By Lionel Messi by AsabaPropertyAg(m): 2:10am On Oct 14, 2025
I love this news and I love the holder of this record, he is no other person than the GOAT for penalty. ( GOAT PENALDO). I know some PENALDO diehard fans will not like this type of news.

DenreleDave:
Former Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG stars are among the players who have missed the most penalty kicks.

The average penalty conversion rate is around 75% and while most of the players on this list have scored plenty of spot-kicks, they’ve also missed their fair share too.

In the modern era, here are the seven players who have missed the most penalties.

7. Ronaldinho – 16 misses
The Brazilian boasted an impressive 81.1% conversion rate from the penalty spot, but still cracks our list with 16 misses.

Perhaps one of his most famous penalty blunders came against England in 2013 as Joe Hart made an excellent double save to deny the Brazilian maestro.

6. Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 17 misses
Ibrahimovic scored 87 penalties and missed 17, giving him a conversion rate of 83.6%.

However, his conversion rate became more sporadic upon his return to AC Milan in 2020.

During his final four seasons of his career, he only boasted a 50% conversion rate from the penalty spot, missing six of the 12 penalties he took upon his return to Milan.

5. Ciro Immobile – 19 misses
Having missed two of his last seven penalty kicks for Besiktas, Immobile recently moved above Ibrahimovic on this list.

In total, he’s taken 105 spot-kicks, has scored 86 and missed 19, giving him an overall conversion rate of 81.9%.

4. Francesco Totti – 20 misses
Totti was especially prolific from the penalty spot in his later years.

Impressively, he didn’t miss a single penalty during his final four and a half seasons and scored his last 13 consecutive spot-kicks before retiring.

Throughout his entire career, he took 106 and scored 86.

3. Neymar – 22 misses
While the Brazilian is usually ice-cold from the spot, he has scuffed his fair share of penalties over the years.

In total, he’s taken 113 penalties and has scored 91, giving him a conversion rate of 80.5%, which is still well above average.

Since re-joining Santos earlier in the year, he has boasted a 100% penalty record, having scored the two penalties that he’s taken.

2. Lionel Messi – 32 misses
Last year, Messi held the record as the player with the most penalty misses in football history, but he’s since been overtaken.

While scoring penalties has never been the strongest asset to his game, a conversion rate of 77.9% is still just about above average.

There’s no doubt that he’s become a better penalty taker in his later years, although since joining Inter Miami, he’s often been happy to give the penalty responsibilities to others.

In total, he’s taken 145 penalties, has scored 113 and missed 32.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo – 34 misses
Having missed four of the last 16 penalties that he’s taken over the past 12 months, Ronaldo now holds the record for the most penalty misses in football history.

His latest miss came against Ireland as Brentford’s Caoimhin Kelleher denied him from 12 yards out.

Along with the most penalty misses in football history, Ronaldo has also scored more than anyone else (177) and has taken more (211) than any other player on record.

Despite his 34 misses, his conversion rate of 83.8% is still well above average.
