SportsRe: Nigeria Wins Gold In The Men's 4x100m At The African Athletics Championships by Ashantiking:
Rossikk: How does the average Ghanaian "have better life"? Half your country is not even connected to the national grid, poverty is rife, and you're only a tiny population of 25 million whose material problems should have been solved ages ago. You hold the continent's second largest gold reserves after SA. Largest cocoa exporter on earth. Now also an oil and gas producer. What the hell happened to all that money? You guys should be like Kuwait. That you are even comparing your quality of life to Nigeria's with its 170 million people shows you've failed as a country so far. Does the average Kuwaiti compare himself with an Iranian or Turk? Nope...
First let's get something straight 72% of Ghanaians are connected to the national grid,
And only 42% of Nigerians are connected to the national grid. While Ghana targets 100^ by 2020, Nigeria targets 75% by 2020. Let's get that straight first.

Ghana should be doing a whole lot better so should Nigeria when we compare Nigeria with countries of the same pop and size Nigeria is far behind. This argument is about Nigeria and Ghana hence the reason I brought up the stats.

This is not soup, this is stew.

Soup- a liquid dish, typically made by boiling meat, fish, or vegetables, etc., in stock or water.

Stew- a dish of meat and vegetables cooked slowly in liquid in a closed dish or pan.
"lamb stew"

UrbanMystique: ok... i hear you.

infact, everything about ghana is perfect.. ghana is the best country in the world. even the americans wanna be like ghanaians. happy now? keep massaging your ego with that. lol embarassed
Ghana is not perfect, infact to be human is to be imperfect, so I don't expect any country to be perfect.

I am just letting you know some of the differences I notice about Ghanaians and Nigerians pertaining to greatness. Since Nigeria is big they equate being great in the sense of quantity Ghana on the other hand equate greatness on the quality of what u have.
SportsRe: Nigeria Wins Gold In The Men's 4x100m At The African Athletics Championships by Ashantiking: 1:47am On Aug 13, 2014
UrbanMystique: they may not be up to 10. i wouldnt know. but the ones we have are loud mouth see no good maniacs. i remember there use to be one somali guy that always act like king of the world on nairaland and how people reply him like they hate somalis.. point is, nigerians dont about somalis but we dont like someone spewing trash about the country especially from outsider that knows next to nothing about the country.

lol really? this is the funniest thing i have read so far on nairaland.. lmao. why in the world would anyone wanna be like a ghanaian?

lol, so you see, who is competing with who now? grin
The point I was trying to make is Nigeria put emphasis on quantity, u equate greatness with quantity while we Ghanaians put emphasis on quality.

A Nigerian will say we produce the most movies in Africa and a Ghanaian will reply with but our quality is better. A nigerian will say we produce more electricity than Ghana but a Ghanaian will at least our light can stay on for more than two hours. A nigerian will say we have more universities and Ghanaian will but we have better schools. Nigerian will say nigeria is bigger richer than Ghana but a Ghanaian will say the average Ghanaian has better life.

It's about quality and not quantity.
SportsRe: Nigeria Wins Gold In The Men's 4x100m At The African Athletics Championships by Ashantiking:
UrbanMystique: same with south africans.
and that's because there are many ghanaians here flexing muscles, acting like they are something, trying to compete with nigeria (out of inferiority complex may be). acting as if someone cares about a country that is politically, financially, economically, socially less than small lagos when no one actually cares.

if we have the presence of Ethiopians or zimbabweans or even russians or any country like the ghanaians trying to compete with nigerians spreading hate. that's what gonna happen.

so again, dont feel to important.
First of all there aren't even 10 Ghanaians on this forum and the ones on here are not even regular posters we only post on threads relating to Ghana.

Nigerians try to compete with us, trust me we don't aspire to be like Nigeria. You will never hear a Ghanaian utter the word why can't we learn from Nigeria or why can't we be like Nigeria but you will hear Nigerians say that.

Nigerians are all about quantity while we are about quality. It doesn't matter if lagos is bigger and whatnot. The important question should be does the average Nigeria has a better life than its Ghanaian counterpart and the and answer is no.

CelebritiesRe: Robin Williams Dead: Beloved Actor Dies In Apparent Suicide by Ashantiking: 1:44am On Aug 12, 2014
Ofonagoro: Beloved actor Robin Williams was found dead on Monday, police reported.

He was 63.

The apparent cause of death was suicide by asphyxiation, authorities said. According to his publicist, Williams had been battling severe depression.

Williams was best known for his starring roles in classic comedies like Mrs. Doubtfire and Jumanji. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Dr. Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting. He rose to fame while playing Mork the alien in the TV show Mork & Mindy, a Happy Days spinoff.

Most recently, Williams had starred in the new CBS sitcom 'The Crazy Ones.' It was cancelled after just one season.

Susan Schneider, the actor's wife, released the following statement to the New York Times' Dave Itzkoff:

"This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope that the focus will not be on Robin's death but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions."
Fellow actors took to Twitter to express deep sorrows on the death of the popular actor.

CelebritiesRe: Actor Robin Williams Dies At 63 by Ashantiking: 1:44am On Aug 12, 2014
DICKtator: scar-winning actor and comic Robin Williams died
Monday at 63 of an apparent suicide, the Marin County
Sheriff's Office confirmed.
Around 11:55 a.m. Monday, sheriff's officials said, a 911 call came in
about a man who was unresponsive in his home in Tiburon. He was
pronounced dead at the scene.
Williams "has been battling severe depression of late," his publicist
Mara Buxbaum said. "This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family
respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time." Dubbed “the funniest man alive” by Entertainment Weekly in 1997, Williams brought audiences hours of laughter, putting his imaginative spin on characters in film and television. He was lauded for his serious roles as well, winning a best supporting actor Oscar for hisperformance as Sean Maguire, the therapist who counsels Matt Damon’s math genius in “Good Will Hunting” (1997), and receiving nominations for “The Fisher King” (1991), “Dead Poets Society” (1989) and “Good Morning, Vietnam” (1987). Williams was known for being open
about his problems with cocaine and alcohol over the years.
The actor spent time on a Hazelden campus in Oregon in 2006. He later explained that drinking had gradually become a problem again after 20 years of sobriety."You're standing at a precipice and you look down, there's a voice and it's a little quiet voice that goes,'Jump,'" the "Mrs. Doubtfire" star told ABC News in October of that year. "The same voice that goes, 'Just one.' … And the
idea of just one for someone who has no tolerance for it, that's not the possibility."
This summer, he returned to rehab to "fine-tune" his sobriety.
Born in Chicago in 1951, Williams became one of only two students
accepted into John Houseman’s prestigious acting program at
Juilliard, the other being Christopher Reeve, who became a lifelong friend.
Williams gained fame as Mork, the bizarre, suspenders-sporting alien on the sitcom “Mork & Mindy,” a spinoff from “Happy Days” Williams departed from the script so often that producers intentionally left blank moments on page for Williams to have space to indulge his ad-libbing
genius.
Williams' last post on Twitter was about his daughter.
Other celebrities turned to the social media site to mourn him.
"I could not be more stunned by the loss of Robin Williams, such a great talent, acting partner, genuine soul," fellow actor-comedian Steve Martin said on Twitter ."Robin Williams was like no other," actor and director Henry Winkler said . "To watch him create on the spot was a privilege to behold.. Robin you are an angel now !!! REST IN PEACE"
"Robin Williams, Peace be Still, Peace be Still," actress Pam Grier
posted.
"Wow just landed in Atlanta and read about robin Williams.
Devastating. One of my favorites #rip," tweeted Doug Ellin, creator of the TV series "Entourage."

Mbilla: shut up u f.o.o.l! How many universities do u have in ghana to contain 5% of Nigeria students talkless of whole West africa.
Well it's about quality, Ghana have at least enough universities to cater for its citizens. That's what we are talking about. I am a change man so I will not insult you for insulting me.
HealthRe: No Ebola In Ghana - Health Minister by Ashantiking: 7:24pm On Aug 11, 2014
OluOlaBlitz: 1. The aids metted out by Nigeria far exceeds that of Ghana and I am not beating my chest about it, only laying out facts. Nigeria is not called "African big brothers" for nothing.
2. Citizens of other countries who sends their wards to Ghana schools pay for the services rendered, it is not free.
3. I would consider Ghana's first reaction to news of the virus in Nigeria as a understandable classic panic reaction to such a critical situation. But after the panic, should there not be solidarity in the fighting of the scourge.
We have other countries sending medical experts to help, where are Ghana's volunteers? Where is our beloved West Africa brothers? Or is it solely our battle now?
4. It is in times of needs you know a true brother. If a brotherly love is professed, then it should equally be shown.
5. The news that Ebola is not in Ghana is a brilliant one, but a news that two great African neighbours and brothers join hands together to avert a dangerous situation will be a more brilliant one.
Did Nigeria send doctors to Liberia, guinea or Sierra Leone I think not. If Ghana decides to send doctors, they should send them to Liberia and other small countries because they need more help than Nigeria. First Nigeria has enough doctors to battle the disease and second the disease is not as widespread in Nigeria like the other three countries.

Nigeria send aids, Ghana also aids but Nigeria sends more because they have more. Ghana on the other hand allow refugees in their country. There are more Ivorians, Liberians, Nigerians, Guineans, and other west african countries in Ghana than any other country.
HealthRe: No Ebola In Ghana - Health Minister by Ashantiking: 6:54pm On Aug 11, 2014
OluOlaBlitz: Honestly, I've always associated that "my neighbour may die, I don't care" attitude with Ghana. Well, it is not their fault, it is our irresponsible leaders that sold us for six kobo.
Yet when a problem occurs in west Africa it is Ghana that most countries seek refuge. Ghana is where most west Africans send their kids for education. Ghana is where most west african send their people for healthcare. Ghana has done and continues to do a lot for west Africa just because we don't beat our chest and boost of what we have done like Nigeria doesn't mean we don't care.

customized13: ghana has an installed power facility of 2100MW, which can't serve lagos. the issue of ghana exporting electricity to nigeria is out of it, nigeria has an installed facility of 6000MW, electricity is still a problem in nigeria.
First, Nigeria has the capacity to generate 6000 but because mismanagement it only generates less than 4000 so let's get that straight first.

Second Nigeria out number Ghana by 9-1 so if Ghana generates 2000 Nigeria should generate at least 11000 for its population.

poiZon: they dont make a fool outta us but outta themselves.
a average ghanian thinks they are better than nigerians, for God sake if they are better hw come they aint feeding us with electricity, hw come we dont c made in ghana cars in nigeria? sis leave those people, they r just myopic in reasoning when it comes to nigeria affairs.
Is Nigeria feeding Ghana electricity? Are there nigerian made cars in Ghana. Come on dude reason like you have brain.

rigarmortis: Nigeria makes up 79% of the economy in west Africa, the sheer volume of foreigners entering and leaving daily is staggering, the conferences etc held in lagos, Abuja, ph, kano and other cities is more than all other WA countries put together so there is higher probability that an infected person will travel to Nigeria first before Ghana,.

no arguing here, just facts, it could have been Ghana if they had Nigerian traffic
Regardless of Ghana being smaller than Nigeria Ghana receives just as much visitors or more than Nigeria.
HealthRe: No Ebola In Ghana - Health Minister by Ashantiking: 5:06pm On Aug 11, 2014
Krasid: Even if Ebola is in Ghana, they will conceal it without letting the whole world know unlike Nigeria that tends to blow things out of proportion.
But Ghana was the first country between Ghana and Nigeria bring out a suspected patient. It just happens that the results has been negative. If they were trying to conceal it then why bring suspected cases. Makes no sense.
HealthRe: No Ebola In Ghana - Health Minister by Ashantiking: 5:04pm On Aug 11, 2014
360command: you do not know what is happening on the other side(ghana). They(Ghanaians) are happy that Nigeria has recorded ebola case in Nigeria. They are not considering the fact that it was a liberian that brought it to Nigeria. I smell school is about to resume and I know they are like 'this Nigerians would bring Ebola to Ghana'.
Why should any Ghanaian be happy that Nigeria has recorded ebola. Nigeria is the least country I would want to have ebola, because relation between the two countries and the amount of people that commute from the two countries. No Ghanaian should be happy that the virus is in Nigeria.
