TrashDetective: Citizenship is the status of a person as recognized under the constitution of a country or a sovereign state as being a legal member of such country or state. It gives the person holding the citizenship access to all the benefits and rights stated the in the constitution of such country.
Every country has its own law governing citizenship and other aspects of their nationality. It is known as Nationality Law. Based on the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, becoming a citizen of Nigeria is governed by the Nigerian Nationality Law.
This law governs everything relating to citizenship and every other category of Nigerian nationality.
There are four types of citizenship in Nigeria:
1. Citizenship by Birth: This is for those who were born in Nigeria. Although being born in Nigeria does not automatically confer Nigerian citizenship.
2. Citizenship by Descent: This means at least one of the parents of the person is a Nigerian even if the person was born outside of Nigeria.
3. Citizenship by Registration: This type of citizenship can be obtained by any of the following persons:

How to become a citizen of Nigeria
There are three general ways of acquiring citizenship in Nigeria:

The provisions for obtaining Nigerian citizenship are stated in Chapter 3 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 known as the Nigerian Citizenship Act.
By birth Section 25 (1) The following persons are citizens of Nigeria by birth-namely- (a) Every person born in Nigeria after the date of independence (October 1, 1960), either of whose parents or any of whose grandparents belongs or belonged to a community indigenous to Nigeria; Provided that a person shall not become a citizen of Nigeria by virtue of this section if neither of his parents nor any of his grandparents was born in Nigeria. (b) Every person born outside Nigeria either of whose parents is a citizen of Nigeria. (2) In this section, "the date of independence" means the 1st day of October 1960.
- By registration Section 26 (1) Subject to the provisions of section 28 of this Constitution, a person to whom the provisions of this section apply may be registered as a citizen of Nigeria, if the President is satisfied that - (a) He is a person of good character; two people to testify to that which one should a Religious minister... (b) He has shown a clear intention of his desire to be domiciled in Nigeria; and (c) He has taken the Oath of Allegiance prescribed in the Seventh Schedule to this Constitution. (2) The provisions of this section shall apply to- (a) Any woman who is or has been married to a citizen of Nigeria or every person of full age and capacity born outside Nigeria any of whose grandparents is a citizen of Nigeria.

ANSMEDIA: Anambra ‘Technovation’ girls, IFEST boys worth billion dollars – Silicon-Valley group
Saturday, April 13, 2019 8:11 am
The Silicon Valley-Nigeria Economic Development (SV-NED) says the five Nigerian girls from Regina Pacies Secondary School, Onitsha, and the four boys from St. John Science and Technical College, Alor, both in Anambra, are worth several billions of dollars.
Chairman of SV-NED, Chief Temitope Ajayi, said after Jumia listed on New York Stock Exchange that the Anambra girls and boys were littered all over Nigeria, adding all they need is an opportunity.
The five girls represented Nigeria and Africa at the World Technovation Challenge in the Silicon Valley in San Francisco, where they won the Gold Medal in the contest.
The girls – including Promise Nnalue, Jessica Osita, Nwabuaku Ossai, Adaeze Onuigbo and Vivian Okoye – defeated representatives of other technological giants including the USA, Spain, Turkey, Uzbekistan and China to clinch the gold medal.
They won the Challenge with a mobile application called the FD-Detector, which they developed to help tackle the challenge of fake pharmaceutical products in Nigeria.
Similarly, the boys – Meshac Ugwuisi, Anthony Chika-Umeora, Daniel Nwachukwu and Dominic Machi, clinched Bronze medal at a recent International Festival of Engineering, Science and Technology (IFEST) competition in Tunisia.
The boys developed two devices called the “Adaptable Alternative Power Supply for Sub-Saharan Africa”, which is a single, fully-packaged solar technology.
The other device was a “Noiseless Inverter System”, which was all-locally sourced and produced by the boys.
The device electric inverter had a solar panel that enables it to absorb energy from the sun, warehouse the energy in inverter and subsequently distribute it in households and offices as the case may be.
Ajayi said the girls and the boys needed to be brought back to Silicon Valley to develop their capacity so they could help contribute to the technological advancement of Nigeria.
“I spoke with the Deputy Governor of Anambra State. I told him that those girls can change the economy of Anambra State. They’ve already discovered them.
“Let them bring them back to Silicon Valley. We will bring them in front of Angel Investors. For them to win that award, they are worth billions of dollars.
“That is my advice for Nigeria. The Nigerian and Anambra Governments should monitor the students. Let them bring those girls back, we will repackage them and let us see what God has in stock for them.
“Anambra state is the luckiest state in Nigeria right now if they know their (girls and boys) potential if they know the value of those kids, those are protégées.
“If they buy that thing (inventions) for a couple of billions, everybody will shake because they are potential billionaires. I love my country.
“I saw those Anambra girls and boys littered all over Nigeria. All they need is opportunities and we have it in Silicon Valley,” she said.
The SV-NED chief urged the federal and state governments to give their own equity contributions for those kids, asking, “who talked about them again?”
“But there is something I see about those kids if we utilise their intellectual property positively.
“Let’s commend Anambra Government for investing in education and see what the girls and the boys have brought.
“Can you beat representing Nigeria and Africa in the Technovation Challenge in Silicon Valley. Their software has the potential of tracking the challenge of fake pharmaceutical products in Nigeria, that’s huge, that’s saving lives.
“Can you imagine those are kids. If they are in America, they will be celebrated.
“I’m praying that Nigeria knows their potential and value of their intellectual property. Those kids
“The boys developed a device – Adaptable Alternative Power Supply – for Sub-Saharan Africa, not only Nigeria and then, a noiseless inverter.
“To be honest, climate change is real. The heat Nigeria experienced and the destruction caused by storms are effects of climate change. So clean energy is the future,” Ajayi said.
She said bringing them to Silicon Valley would ensure investment in their intellectual property through the Angel Investors, adding that the big corporations could buy their intellectual property.
Ajayi said Nigeria was very fortunate and commended the initiative of the President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo through various programmes to empower the youth.
MetaPhysical: Those qualified to become President of Nigeria must, by virtue of the constitution, be classified under the two following headings: 1- a person born "anywhere" before October 1st 1960 and whose parent or grandparent has indigeneity in Nigeria. 2 - a person born in Nigeria after October 1st 1960 and is thus a citizen, or born "anywhere" and parent or grandparent is a citizen of Nigeria.
Citizenship of Nigeria by law constitutes: 1 - "indigeneity" before Independence. 2- After Independence birth in Nigeria or "anywhere" to parents and grandparents with Nigerian citizenship.
Was Atiku Abubakar born in Nigeria? NO. Was his parent or grandparent a people indigeneous to Nigeria? NO. Where is their indigeneity? ADAMAOUA, CAMEROON. Were his parents or grandparents born in Nigeria? NO.
When did Adamaoua, Cameroon, become Adamawa, Nigeria? JUNE 1ST 1961 via REFERENDUM.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is now a Nigerian, his citizenship gained via the referendum of 1961. The Nigerian Constitution and Law only recognizes citizenship, and by extension qualification to the Presidency, via birth or parentage, not by plebiscite. Unless the Constitution is amended to include those who were absorbed by plebiscite in 1961, Atiku Abubakar does not meet qualification, nor satisfy the law to be President of Nigeria, his prior public office notwithstanding.
It's teachers like you that has made students shy away from Government & Political Science as courses of study in higher institutions.
dainformant: A traditional ruler has reacted to the trending video of Nnamdi Kanu and his wife in bed. Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), was filmed having a romantic moment with his wife, Uchechi Okwu Kanu.
The viral video (watch below) sparked debate among Nigerians as some condenmed the couple over the footage while others said they are legally married and that nothing can change their love for the couple.
A traditional ruler identified as Emeka, who witnessed the wedding of the couple in 2015, shared pictures from the ceremony with the below caption.
Kanu We Know, Kanu We Love. He Is The First Among Equals. Haters, keep making him popular. You are ignorantly promoting and contributing to the struggle. The name Biafra will hunt you all, until your last days.
How has a video of a man and wife, got to do with the poverty rate in Nigeria, killings in Zamfara, bombings by Boko Haram, slaughtering by the Fulanis, etc.
If you don't like Ohamadike Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the best thing to do is to hug a transformer, you won't die because there will be no light, just jump into a moving train, or find a rope. You can never be like Ohamadike Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and it's also a fact.
seunmsg: He denied knowledge of the posters because it’s so easy and convenient to do. What about the viral report that he paid $30,000 to a US lobbying firm to help him lobby the US government to recognize him as the legitimately elected president? Why is he not denying that one? Did Lai Mohammed and opposition figures paid the lobbyist just to discredit him?
His desperation is gradually becoming sickening. He should pursue his case in court as provided under the law and stop misbehaving all over the place.
IDanfulani: VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED : These are some of the casualties of the Sam Mbakwe International Airport fire disaster , Owerri , Imo state . The fire service in Nigeria has an international merit award for never living up to expectation and never having water when it matters most . Now , talk of airports : every local airport in Nigeria goes by the appellation , International , including the ramshackle airport at the treasure base , milk cow of Nigeria , Port Harcourt . The Minister of transportation and his under Minister in charge of aviation will never think of resigning after this mess , neither will FAAN officials at Owerri. Am sure these workers are not insured and in the usual , I don't care attitude of Nigeria governments , these victims will be allowed to carry their cross ? We say , NO , to this . Public officials should live up to their responsibility please .
