jln115:Pic 3: Those are actually T-64s (I know it say's T-72 in Wiki) |
Henry120:The picture of the MRLS was sourced from the ISS. It was most likely taken in the Czech Republic as the arms exports destined for Nigeria were being loaded. |
Fynline:Upload it to YouTube |
MikeCZAR:That's the point. It appeared a mixed unit (NA and militia) were passing through a new conquered cross-roads. I only counted 3 vehicles on the move (the light-blue militia truck, the big-foot, the MOWAG). Most of the other soldiers in the picture appeared to be part of the units that actually fought the earlier battle and are now just occupying the cross-roads. Notice that the tanks were not moving and many soldiers that appeared in the video seem unconcerned. |
It's a mixed bunch - soldiers and militia. Taking a closer look, notice that there are parked tanks. It seems to be a mixed unit moving through an area that had just been fought over. They did engage "something" that may have returned fire. The videographer is not a soldier. The big-foot MRAP and the MOWAG are staffed by soldiers. I believe that what we are looking at is a mixed unit moving through a cross-roads town. At the end, the videographer got decked (because he brought a camera to a heated argument.) The distorted images we saw at the end of the video was because the camera was in his pocket (a cell phone camera). The video was by a militia man that prefers to speak Hausa rather than pidgin or English. Folks like him would love the video, and he can show it to his friends back home (somewhere in Yobe state :-) ) MikeCZAR: |
andrewza:I guess what some of these (SA?) guys are referring to is the American tier system for special forces (which is based on budgeting and operational scope). The American system is not based on how good the actual operators are, but how much resources the units have access to (which usually dictates how good the units are )The NA has a few SF battalions. These SF battalions have better kits and receive more training than regular infantry. The NN SBS on the other hand is at an entirely different level. The NN SBS operational scope goes from under sea demolition to high altitude insertion. From small-boat tactics to mountaineering. SBS has extensive operational experience in urban warfare as well ( clearing Okene and Maiduguri). And the list actually goes on and on. The army has a unit similar to the SBS, but the navy took up the SF challenge with vigour at an earlier date. SF is all about what you can do and how long you have been training at doing it. |
