Education / Success Secrets In SSCE (WAEC And NECO) Physics Practical by assureedu: 11:24pm On Apr 02, 2015

ASSURE Educational Services, an online learning firm in Nigeria, is poise to assist students preparing for the SSCE (WASSCE and NECO; MAY/JUNE and NOV/DEC) Physics Practical.

Physics Practical could be regarded as the practical involvement of candidates in the process of investigation, collection and analysis of data and a test of candidate's ability to carry-out instructions.

GENERAL NOTES: Candidates are required to answer two questions out of the three questions supplied. Each question is marked on a total of 25 marks (totaling 50marks for practical) under the following different sub-headings: Observations; Graph; Slope; Deductions; Accuracy; Precautions and short-answer questions.

OBSERVATION: Observation are data collected in the process of carrying out the investigation. There are two types of observation, namely: the fundamental and the derived observation. Fundamental data (observations) are collected direct from the investigation, e.g. reading a meter rule directly, say x = 3m Derived data (observations), as the name implies are derived from the fundamental data, example 1/x , x2 i.e. 1/3, 32
S/N X(cm) X-1
1 3.0 0.333
2 4.0 0.250
3 5.0 0.200

NOTE: i. Any direct reading from the apparatus used (e.g. meter rule, stop clock, ammeter, voltmeter, etc) must be recorded to at least 1 decimal place (see table above) ii. Any reading from the vernier caliper must be recorded to 2 decimal places. iii. All values from tables, reciprocals, sine, cosine, logarithms, etc – must be recorded to at least 3 decimal places (see table above) iv. There must be consistency in the decimal places per column of value (see table above) v. Units must be attached to the fundamental data (see table above) vi. It is very important to note that what makes the above data correct is the increasing values of X(cm) as X-1 decreases (see table). The examiner looks out for this and marks accordingly.

GRAPH: (i) For scales to be reasonable, graph must occupy at least 1/3 (one-third) of graph page. (ii) Scales using multiples or sub-multiples of prime numbers such as 3, 7, 9, 13, etc are not acceptable. (iii) To obtain the suitable line of best fit mark, at least three points must be correctly plotted

SLOPE: - The slope, s, is a measure of the change in y (dy) to that of x (dx), i.e. dy/dx (i) Choose two points, far apart and draw a right-angled triangle that occupies at least 1/3 (one-third) of graph. (ii) The larger the triangle, the more the accuracy of the slope.

PRECAUTION: - For an accurate experimental results, certain basic precautions must have to be taken. These are: (i) Repeated Reading: Certain readings or data could be collected a number of times and their average values taken. When a candidate repeats readings, he/she is ensuring that any errors that may have occurred in the reading are corrected. When a candidate state repeated readings as precaution, candidate must show it in the table of values. (ii) Parallax Error: This is an apparent change in the position of an object caused by change of the position of the observer. (iii) Zero Error: In some instruments, the zero points may be faulty, e.g. in meter rule, the zero ends may have been worn out as a result of long usage or in voltmeter, the pointer may not point exactly at the zero mark when not in use. This could lead to a systematic error. One of the method of eliminating zero error is to add or subtract the difference from the value recorded.

Sports / Shocker: Burkina Faso Snubs Keshi, Names German New Coach by assureedu: 4:14pm On Feb 25, 2015
AFCON 2013 winning coach, Stephen Keshi, has been overlooked as Burkina Faso named German trainer, Gernot Rohr, as new handler of their national football team.

Rohr replaces Belgian Paul Put, who parted ways with ‘Les Etalons’ after the Orange Africa Cup of Nations, Equatorial Guinae 2015, where the Burkinabes, losing finalists at the previous edition, crashed out at the group phase.
A statement by Federation Burkinabe de Football released on Tuesday night said the federation has settled on the 61-year old as the best option.

Prior to that, the FBF had named a three-man shortlist including Rohr, Keshi and Milovan Rajevac of Serbia from 38 applications received for the vacant post.

According to the federation, the German-born trainer will be unveiled to the press in the next few days after the finalization of the terms of engagement between the two parties.

Rohr was previously in charge of Gabon and Niger, guiding the former to the quarters of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and crashing out at the first round with the latter during the 2013 edition in South Africa.

A defender during his playing days, French sides Bordeaux, Creteil, Nice, Ajaccio, Young Boys of Switzerland and Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel count amongst his former jobs.

Sports / Chelsea Fans' Paris Metro Victim Reveals His Fear And Shock by assureedu: 11:14pm On Feb 20, 2015
French-Mauritanian Souleymane S, the man stopped by Chelsea supporters from boarding a Paris metro train on Tuesday, has spoken of his fear and shock during the incident.

After the attack Souleymane filed a legal complaint with French police who are investigating with the help of Scotland Yard, and he admitted on Friday that he is still shaken by what happened.

“What happened has left me really afraid,” he said, in an interview with the Guardian.

Chelsea have offered Souleymane a place in the director’s box for a match at Stamford Bridge and have banned three supporters from the ground, and Souleymane says he is determined the appropriate punishment is handed out. “I just want justice to be done, no more than that,” he said.

On the night of the Chelsea v Paris Saint-Germain match, Souleymane, was returning home from his sales job to his three children, aged six, four and three, at their home just outside the French capital.

“I had had a very long day of work and it had gone well, so at around 7.30pm I went to get the metro after the rush hour had calmed,” he continued. “I tried to board the train and suddenly there were two people who pushed me off. I didn’t understand. I thought, this isn’t normal. Normally that would just never happen. They were shouting and making racist comments, which I don’t accept and I didn’t understand why.

“It seemed that they were Chelsea supporters. I didn’t even know Chelsea were playing that day. I tried to get on the train, I was pushed, and then they pushed me a second time. I still didn’t understand why they had pushed me. Then one of them, a young man, made a hand gesture … to show that it’s white skin here, black skin has no right to get on.”

Souleymane could not believe what was happening. “Frankly, I was stunned. I didn’t know what to say. I was a French citizen who had left his office and wanted to get home, and foreigners were stopping me getting on a train to get home. This is 2015 … This talk of black skin or white skin, that’s something I don’t like. And I didn’t know why [it was happening].”

He tried twice to get on to the train but was pushed backwards at each attempt. “I didn’t force it because there were a lot of them, around 30 or 40 people. I wasn’t going to fight them. I had my wife and children waiting for me at home. I’m a father, I have to set a good example.”

Souleymane said he quickly realised they were Chelsea fans. “They didn’t speak French, they spoke English. They were mentioning Chelsea. After some words, they said the word ‘racist’.”

“I couldn't believe they were stopping me going home, stopping me from getting on a train because I’m black. That’s inadmissible”.

“They said they were proud of being racist. I don’t care, black or white, the important thing for me was to get home. I had bought my Metro ticket …”

Asked about how the incident affected him, Souleymane said: “I was a little bit hurt physically but in terms of morale I was hurt a lot. It has really affected my life. I can’t go back into the Metro, it makes me really afraid. I don’t think you should be denied the right to take the Metro because you’re black. That’s what they wanted.”

He said his legal complaint cited Chelsea by name and demanded that the club help in the investigation. “They have a part of the responsibility. It’s their club, their supporters.” He added: “I like football, like everyone else. So it shocks me even more.”

Souleymane also thanked, Paul Nolan, the British resident in Paris who recorded a video of the incident. “The world thanks him for having shared this injustice that happened to me,” Souleymane said. “It was important that all this came out. I’m not the only black person who has been the victim of racism and if I’m here it’s not only to denounce what I’ve been through but it’s for all the black people across the world facing it, everywhere, be it in France, London, the US … It has to stop. We’re in a world where everyone has their place, black, white, Muslim, Jew, atheist or anything else.”

Souleymane’s lawyer, Jim Michel-Gabriel, said the French justice system was taking the incident very seriously and he expected the suspects to be identified and for justice to previal. He admitted he had been deeply shocked by the incident. “I think racism is not exclusively English or French,” he said.

“And it’s not just sport that is racist, racism is a societal problem. It has to stop.”
