Time to stop being politically correct. As a Northerner, I support the Youths. You cannot be in a country with people who espouse bitterness and hate.

I am still trying to understand why the Igbos seem to be backtracking from their campaign to have Biafra. Really, that is the only option left for them. Why? By repeatedly insulting other Nigerian tribes and regions, there is no way the Igbos will have the support of these other tribes for a possible Igbo presidency - which they say is an alternative to having Biafra. Presidents are elected, not appointed. An Igbo presidency must start with an Igbo candidate winning the ticket in his/her party primaries. Then, he/she has to win at the national elections. These processes require collaboration with regions other than your own - something Igbos are not known for. So, really, the only option for Igbos is to have Biafra, and accept that they would be able to live in Nigeria under Nigeria's immigration laws, just as Ghanaians live in Nigeria.

Ikology:
Nigeria of today! Kwankwaso is the most bigoted politician currently present in our political environment. You can never hear anything from him except issues relating to his region or tribe. He never hides his contempt for anything outside Hausa Fulani. He has kept quiet since but his voice became loud now that people are pushing for the arrest of grand fathers who claim to be youths issuing Ultimatums to fellow country men. I can never forget his action during a bomb blast in an Igbo dominated park in Kano, while he is the governor of the state. He must suffer for his atrocities Kwankwaso should prepare to become premier of NORTH WEST region not Nigerian president.

PoliticsEFCC To Grill Stella Oduah Over N255 Million Bulletproof Car Scandal by astana1(op): 11:10am On Jun 22, 2017
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has invited a senator from Anambra State, Stella Oduah, for questioning over the N255 million car purchase scandal.
Ms. Oduah, an Igbo and former Minister of Aviation, would be grilled about her role in the controversial purchase of bulletproof cars which ridiculed the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan, the Nation reported.
The paper said Ms. Oduah was slated to appear before anti-graft detectives on Wednesday for questions that would border mostly around a petition the agency received over the N255 million spent in purchasing the exotic BMW vehicles.
Although EFCC sources confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES that Ms. Oduah is under investigation for her role in the car purchase scandal, they were unable to ascertain when she will appear for questioning.
“We have a petition about the car purchase scandal,” an official said. “But we don’t know when she’s going to appear.”
The officials declined to identify the petitioner.
The senator declined comments on the matter to PREMIUM TIMES throughout Wednesday. Calls and text messages to her telephone lines were neither acknowledged nor responded to.
In 2013, Ms. Oduah was embroiled in the car purchase allegations in 2013, when reports emerged that she had compelled the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, an agency under her as Minister of Aviation, to procure the vehicles for her.

The purchase drew nationwide controversy, and activists like Femi Falana, urged EFCC to conduct a thorough investigation with a view to prosecuting the former minister.
But Ms. Oduah, who was elected into Senate even as the scandal raged in 2015, has always maintained her innocence.
She said in response to a query by Mr. Jonathan in October 2013 that the procurement was duly provided for in the NCAA budget that year, which also adopted lease payments in instalments over 36 months.

By Kingsley Omonobi Abuja— Former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has advised against call for the arrest of leaders of Arewa youth groups who have given the Igbo a three-month ultimatum to quit the northern part of the country by October 1, 2017.

Describing the call even from some governors of the North as unpatriotic and capable of causing national insecurity, Kwankwaso urged the governors and other leaders in the North to dialogue with the youths, instead of resorting to their arrests. Kwankwaso The former Defence Minister, who currently represents Kano Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, told selected journalists that arresting the young men would rather aggravate the already tensed atmosphere. Describing the people of Igbo extraction as bona fide citizens of the country, who were free to live in any part of the country, Kwankwaso noted that true dialogue would enable the youths, who are leaders of tomorrow, better appreciate the nation’s unity in diversity. “The general belief in the North is that we are better together as a country. The unity and development of the country should be of paramount concern of every Nigerian,” he said. Kwankwaso blamed the tension over the pronouncement of the youths and the counter call by another group in the South on the weakness in the nation’s political order, accusing the elders of failing to call the youths to order. “Many people are afraid to call the youths to order. If they are wrong, they are wrong,” he said. He, however, commended the steps taken so far by the Federal Government, particularly Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, who had been holding series of meetings with leaders of thoughts from various parts of the country. The former governor contended that the agitation of the Igbo which borders on the need for better representation at the centre and the need for even development of their zone, could be addressed without resorting to threat of secession.

CareerIGR Crisis: Hundreds Of Kano Revenue Officials Dump Appointment by astana1(op): 9:45am On Jun 20, 2017
By Ibrahim Musa Giginyu, Kano

Barely three months of their engagement as revenue officials with the Kano Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), as part of its drive to meet the monthly target of N10bn Internally Generated Revenue by 2018 after KIRS’s autonomy, about 300 out of the 765 graduates recently engaged to work in the service, are said to have dumped the job.

According to one of the newly engaged graduates that dumped their employment who spoke under anonymity condition, the service has failed to fulfill some of the promises made to them in regards to the service’s salary scale, stressing that most of them were cajoled to leave their jobs and accept the tax generation work only to be paid N35, 000.

“We were told that with the autonomy attained the services will offer us a better salary package than what we were earning at our former working places. However, after we have concluded all bureaucratic engagements, we ended up being paid N35, 000 as graduates. This is why about 300 of us have quit, because with the present economic hurdles; it is unwise for one to deceive oneself that he or she can leave on that stipends,” lamented the former tax collector.

Similarly, when Daily Trust visited the KIRS head office, the Public Relation Officer revealed that the service’s Executive Chairman Sani Abubakar Dembo has been aware on lesser Hajj and no one can comment on the issue.

However, a close source to KIRS confirmed that revealed a lot of the newly engaged tax collectors have dumped the work without notice.

“They came with high expectations because some of them were engaged on grade level ‘8’, ‘9’ and ‘10’and when they found out that what they were expecting is virtually impossible some of them horribly left back to where they came from,” said the source.

PoliticsFIRS Generates N778.19 Billion In First Quarter 2017 by astana1(op): 11:18am On Jun 16, 2017
The Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, said it generated N778.19 billion revenue in the first quarter of 2017.
This is according to a progress report by the FIRS sent to the Federal Ministry of Finance and obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja.
The report, which showed the revenue performance for the first quarter of 2017, gave a breakdown of money collected.
According to the report, the FIRS collected N338.3 billion as Petroleum Profit Tax between January and March, as against the N176.7 billion collected in the period under review in 2016.
Similarly, Value Added Tax, VAT, revenue increased from N198.7 billion in first quarter of 2016, to N221.37 billion in first quarter of 2017.
The report showed that the biggest improvement was from education tax collection, which the FIRS surpassed in 2016 by 311.7 per cent.
It said in first quarter of 2017, N33.9 billion was generated as education tax revenue as against the N8.24 billion generated in the same period of 2016.
Also, the service said it achieved 284.3 per cent improvement in Stamp Duty collections, as it generated N3 billion in first quarter of 2017, as against the N785 million generated in 2016.

The report also showed that consolidated tax revenue for the first quarter of the year grew by 123 per cent, from N11.5 billion in 2016 to N25.7 billion in the same period of 2017.
The service also recorded success in boosting its collection of National Information Technology Development Fund (NITDEF) levy, which went up from N129 million in 2016 to N179.2 million in 2017.
The report, however, showed that the FIRS did not record any improvement in Company Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax collections.
The service collected N155.6 billion as Company Income Tax in first quarter of 2017, while it collected N166.85 billion in the same period of 2016.
It said N110.9 million was generated from Capital Gains in 2017 as against the N859.1 billion generated in the same period of 2016.
“The analysis shows that we have recorded an increase of N214 billion, representing an overall increase of 38 per cent in 2017, when compared with the collection performance of the corresponding period in 2016.
“We attained this collection performance in spite of several challenges, as we have continued to vigorously pursue our strategies internally, while improving collaboration with relevant stakeholders to boost our collections.
“The strategies put in place are still on course and progressively yielding,’’ the FIRS said.
It will be recalled that the FIRS Chairman, Babatunde Fowler, pledged to improve tax collection by capturing more people and companies under the tax net.
In April, he said that four million individuals have been included in the tax net, bringing the total to about 20 million individuals.
This still leaves a gap of about 40 million taxable individuals and corporate organisations both in the formal and informal sectors.
