Education / 8 Industries Of The Future by Augustineobia: 1:28pm On May 11, 2021
Are you a parent, a young adult or teenager who is so pessimistic about the future such that the thought of it scares the life out of you. The main cause of pessimism is ignorance. If you could fore tell the future to a large extent then all of a sudden your pessimism changes to optimism because even if you could see the future and there was danger you will start planning on how to avert the danger.

One of the ways to foretell the future is to know the kinds of industries that would emerge because this would in turn affect careers, incomes and most importantly social structures because as you are already aware, the emergence of social media such as Facebook, WhatsApp, etc, has completely changed the way we communicate and socialise.

These are the 8 industries I feel would dominate much of the 21st century. So if you are a young adult or a parent who is pessimistic I will urge you to read this post carefully and plan accordingly.

* BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY

When most people hear about BLOCKCHAIN, what comes to their minds is mostly cryptocurrency. The blockchain technology is more than just cryptocurrency.

What is blockchain technology? Blockchain is a system of recording information in a way that makes it difficult or impossible to change, hack, or cheat the system.

With this simple definition it means that the blockchain technology is going to affect a whole lot of industries ranging from finance, law, energy, tourism and even international relations because once an agreement has been reached between two parties and recorded it would be difficult to alter the details of that agreement

The people who will benefit from this are not just computer nerds but politicians, lawyers, accountants, entrepreneurs and businesses.

* ALTERNATE ENERGY

As we all know after the air we breathe the next most important thing to man is ENERGY. We need energy to run our cars, power our homes, run our industries, move goods from one place to another. But as we all are aware the world is warming everyday as a result of climate change that has come from carbon emissions.

This has brought about a need for alternative means of energy that would reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment. A lot of alternatives have been suggested from nuclear plants, to windmills, to solar energy and even biofuels. This industry would require a lot of engineers, physicist, biochemist if the above career parts interest you then you should study more about alternate energy.

* CLOUD COMPUTING

Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources especially data storage (cloud storage) and computing power without direct active management by the user. The term is generally used to describe data centres available to many users over the internet. Large clouds, predominant today, often have functions distributed over multiple locations from central servers. If the connection to the user is relatively close, it may be designated an edge server.

Cloud computing services have become so important that it’s now a multibillion dollar industry that have attracted the attention of the likes of Amazon, Microsoft and even google into the space. If you are interested in cyber security, programming, network engineering, this industry is an area you should begin to plan towards.

* BIG DATA ANALYTICS

Big data analytics is the often complex process of examining big data to uncover information — such as hidden patterns, correlations, market trends and customer preferences — that can help organizations make informed business decisions.

On a broad scale, data analytics technologies and techniques give organizations a way to analyze data sets and gather new information. Business intelligence (BI) queries answer basic questions about business operations and performance.

Big data analytics is a form of advanced analytics which involve complex applications with elements such as predictive models, statistical algorithms and what-if analysis powered by analytics systems. This kind of industry would require statisticians, mathematicians, and analyst that like to look at numbers and make meaning out of them. If you are a lover of numbers this industry is for you.

* CYBER SECURITY

Cyber security is the protection of computer systems and networks from information disclosure, theft of or damage to their hardware, software, or electronic data, as well as from the disruption or misdirection of the services they provide.

With the emergence of internet of things (IoT) and how our lifes are centered around the internet, it has become imperative that we secure our information from cyber thieves and criminals. If you are interested in a career in cybersecurity then programming, internet forensics and becoming a hacker are areas that you should research more on.

* ROBOTICS/ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Robotics is a branch of technology that deals with physical robots. Robots are programmable machines that are usually able to carry out a series of actions autonomously, or semi-autonomously while artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science. It involves developing computer programs to complete tasks that would otherwise require human intelligence. AI algorithms can tackle learning, perception, problem-solving, language-understanding and/or logical reasoning.

AI is used in many ways within the modern world. For example, AI algorithms are used in Google searches, Amazon’s recommendation engine, and GPS route finders. Most AI programs are not used to control robots. Anyone interested in entering this industry must know engineering, software engineering, programming, mathematics etc.

* DIGITISED HOSPITALS

As a digital hospital your doctors, nurses and healthcare team document and access your medical information (such as who you are, reason for admission, medical history and any allergies) on computers instead of using paper files.

New digital bedside patient monitoring devices automatically upload your vital signs and observations, such as your blood pressure, temperature and heart rate, directly to your secure electronic medical record. If you are interested in becoming a medical practitioner of the future you must begin to inculcate some of the skill sets to keep you relevant in the medical industry.

* AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY

A number of global trends are influencing food security, poverty, and the overall sustainability of food and agricultural systems.

Future agriculture will use sophisticated technologies such as robots, temperature and moisture sensors, aerial images, and GPS technology. These advanced devices and precision agriculture and robotic systems will allow farms to be more profitable, efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly. If you want to engage in commercial agriculture a knowledge of the above is a basic prerequisite for engaging in this industry.

The above 8industries I have mentioned are my opinions based on current observable trends. Like the saying goes “If you look at the past you will understand the present and when you understand the present, you can foretell the future”. The only thing constant is change and he who fails to plan, plans to fail.

Technology is here to stay whether we accept it or not. What we can do is to ask ourselves how we can use the current technology to our advantage.

Science/Technology / 5g, Internet Of Things (iot) And The Future Of Real Estate by Augustineobia: 7:58pm On Apr 17, 2020
A lot of insinuations have been made about the 5G technology and how it would affect our way of doing things in the near future. In this article I would explain the 5G technology and how it would influence IoT and the real estate sector in particular.

What is 5G

5G is the fifth generation of wireless communications technologies supporting cellular data networks. The technology requires the use of communications devices (mostly mobile phones) designed to support the technology. Compared to the 4G LTE, it will be able to embrace up to 100 times more connected devices per unit area. Not only will it allow extremely fast data speeds, such as to render 4G as sluggish. It simple terms, it means, one can download an HD film of 3hours in 10 seconds or less. It promises a more IoT friendly ecosystem, with vast improvements over the current capabilities of the 4G.

Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet of things (IoT) is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.

The definition of the Internet of things has evolved due to the convergence of multiple technologies, real-time analytics, machine learning, commodity sensors, and embedded systems. Traditional fields of embedded systems, wireless sensor networks, control systems, automation (including home and building automation), and others all contribute to enabling the Internet of things. In the consumer market, IoT technology is most synonymous with products pertaining to the concept of the "smart home", covering devices and appliances (such as lighting fixtures, thermostats, home security systems and cameras, and other home appliances) that support one or more common ecosystems, and can be controlled via devices associated with that ecosystem, such as smartphones and smart speakers.

So what's the connection between 5G and internet of things?

The idea behind IoT is to have multiple connected devices gathering data in real time over a particular period. The 5G network will help establish the Internet of Things as an indispensable part of our world, by laying the foundation for unleashing its full potential. Experts speculate 20.4 billion connected devices in the world by the end of 2020, a number that will continue to rise. Current wireless infrastructure just does not have the capacity to accommodate so many devices and ensure exchange of information without minor lags.

5G will also enable wider applications in smart city initiatives from water and waste management, traffic monitoring to enhanced healthcare facilities. Smart Cities will enjoy the benefits of the new generation network as more and more sensors make their way into city infrastructure. Not only will 5G be capable of handling the massive data load, but it will also make the integration of various intelligent systems, constantly communicating with each other a reality, bringing the vision of a truly connected city closer. An example of a mini smart city is the TRINITY LUXURY APARTMENT that is being designed by 3ceesProjectsLimited a real estate investment advisory, property development and facility management company based in Lekki, Lagos state, Nigeria.

Conclusively, It’s a long way to when 5G becomes mainstream, but businesses need to start now with developing and reimagining services and products to leverage 5G’s superior capabilities. Here is a look at a few industries where 5G and IoT together can bring about disruptions: retail, logistics, healthcare, self driving cars and most importantly usher in the smart city concept.

Technology Market / Why Security In The 21st Century Is No Longer Luxury by Augustineobia: 11:25am On Apr 01, 2020
When most people hear the word insecurity, what comes to mind is terrorism, gang violence, street fights etc., and they are not wrong because in this century we have experienced the Abuja bomb blast and on a global scale the September 11th 2001 attack on the world trade center in New York. The list of both local and global cases of insecurity is endless.

When you read these stories its easy to wave them aside as external happenings that has no direct bearing to you. But I am sure you have a house, it doesn’t matter whether you are renting or you own it. What matters is that you have properties inside that you have bought with your hard earned money. How about those your wonderful kids that bring so much joy to you?

Are you thinking of their safety?

They is a limit to what a security guard and a fenced compound with gate can do; remember he is a human being who has two eyes, blood flowing through his veins and his body demands that he sleeps for at least 6hours a day if he is to function properly as a human being. I am sure you have also heard stories of houses getting razed by fire because someone left the pressing iron on and went out, how about repeated cases of house theft without traces of the culprit. I have lost count of child molestation and rape cases alone in Lagos state in the past year.

After doing a thorough research of some of the rape cases, fire and house theft that took place in Lagos state, I came to the conclusion that a lot of those unfortunate incidents would have been avoided only if they had a SMART HOME SECURITY SYSTEM installed.

What is a smart home security system?

A smart home security system, enables you harness your home WiFi network so you can monitor and also control a range of security devices in-app from your smart phone. Thanks to the Internet of Things, you can remotely control door locks and lights to streamline your entry and exit using nothing but your phone. Control extends to thermostats, sprinkler systems, and even pet feeders. Alongside sensors and motion detectors, you’ll need a hub to enable communication with your security devices using Z-Wave, Zigbee, WiFi or a mesh network like Insteon.

*Security Cameras

Perhaps you’re looking at all the elements of a successful home security system and thinking a straight-up security camera would be more than enough for you. If that’s the case, you’ve got plenty of options covering indoors and outdoors.
Entry-level video doorbell cameras let you see who’s at the door without having to get up. Connected to your home WiFi, you’ll be alerted when anyone approaches the door. You can then communicate with them using your smart phone. The added benefit is that you’ll be able to keep your eyes on things afar so you really can relax on vacation confident your home is fully secured.

*Door Locks

Smart door locks are a core component of any comprehensive home security system.Using a communication protocol like Bluetooth, WiFi, or Z-Wave, your smart lock can communicate with other devices in your home.

*Motion Sensors

Sensors detect moving objects penetrating the protective area.
You’ve got 2 choices with motion sensors:

Indoor Motion Sensors
One of the leading benefits of using motion sensors indoors is the way you can have lights activated so there’s no more tripping over yourself to the bathroom in the pitch black. Since lighting is also dependent on motion being detected in each room, you’ll save money on your electricity bill as an added bonus with indoor motion sensors.

Outdoor Motion Sensors

Outdoor motion sensors are most frequently used together with security cameras to make sure your front and backyard is safe from intruders. Get the right weatherproofed system, ideally with cross-zoning to prevent the chance of improper alarm activation, and you’ll sleep more soundly knowing your property is safe inside and out.

*Alarm Systems

If you want an all-encompassing alarm system, you’re spoiled for choice. If you want everything in one complete wireless package with DIY (Do It Yourself) installation, you can get a range of starter kits with everything thrown in.
Conclusively, some of the basic devices are things you can buy and install yourself. But you must understand that in the smart home space they is basic, intermediate and advanced security systems. When you want to start installing intermediate and advanced security systems like some of the examples I shared with you, you should get professionals. If you are in Nigeria 3ceesProjectsLimited is a good place to visit because we offer bespoke plans for all our clients in the smart home security space. Our services range from home, office to estate security systems.
Technology Market / Smart Home Technology; The Wave Of The Future. by Augustineobia: 2:36pm On Mar 22, 2020
If you are 50 years or older, you remember a time when communicating with someone in a distant place meant getting a paper, pen, postal stamps, an envelope and when you were done writing your letter, you had to proceed to the post office. You also had to get to the post office before it closed, else you had to wait until the following day. All that stress and hassle has been eliminated simply by the invention of the android technology or smartphones as its popularly called.

So, with a smartphone all you have to do now to communicate with someone in a distant place is to put on your mobile data, log into Facebook, WhatsApp, WeChat, yahoo mail or Gmail or any online messaging platform.

It is easy to forget that the switch from post office to online messaging platforms is barely 20years old, this change has been made possible by the invention of the INTERNET. Trust me the INTERNET is no longer a fad. It has influenced every aspect of the global economy from banking to construction etc, and most recently it has permeated the real-estate sector in the form of smart home technology.

What is a smart home?

A SMARTHOME simply put is a modern house equipped with lighting, heating, and electronic devices that can be controlled remotely by a smartphone or computer. It may also include home security, such as access control and alarm systems. When connected with the internet home devices are important constituents of the internet of things (IoT).

A smarthome system connects controlled devices to a central Hub. The user interface (UI) for control of the system uses either wall mounted terminals, tablets or desktops computers, a mobile phone application or a web interface, that may also be accessible offsite through the internet.

While they are many competing vendors, they are very few worldwide accepted industry standards and the smarthome space is heavily fragmented. The leading names/vendors in the smart home space in no particular order are

1. Google

2. Amazon

3. Apple

4. Microsoft

5. IBM

Other outside contenders include:

· Ecobee

· Samsung

· Philips

PRACTICAL USES

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning. It’s possible to have remote control of all home energy monitors over the internet, incorporating a simple and friendly user interface.

Light control system is a smart network that incorporates communication between various lighting systems inputs and outputs using one or more central computing devices

Occupancy-aware control system. Its possible to save the energy of a home using smart meters and environmental sensors like CO2 sensors, which can be integrated into the building automation system to trigger automatic responses for energy efficiency.

Home robots and security, a household security system integrated with a home automation system can provide additional servers such as remote surveillance of security cameras over the internet or access control and central locking of all perimeter doors and windows.

Smart kitchen and connected cooking, this has been made possible using voice control devices like Amazon Alexa and Google home to kitchen

Conclusively, Zion market research predicts that the smarthome market will reach $53.45 billion by 2022. This projected increase in market value in the smarthome space is as a result of the wonderful products innovation being introduced into the market by google home, alexa and Amazon Echo.

All this has been made possible because ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE is becoming more common place and personally I think the market value that is been predicted is very conservative considering that real estate developers in developing economies like Nigeria and south Africa are already incorporating the smart home technology into their buildings. An example is the Trinity luxury Apartment being developed by 3ceesprojectslimited in Lekki Lagos. The list of smart homes in Europe, Asia and North America is endless, making home automation the next big thing since bitcoin and the blockchain in 2009.

….as I close, I want you to remember that gmail and yahoomail made post office obsolete.
