bligs: You can get a very good 3bedroom house with 600k-800k in the western suburbs of Melbourne, though about 45 to 50mins drive from the CBD. Suburbs like Tarneit, Truganina, Werribee, Wnydham Vale and some part of Point Cook. The only down side is apart from Point Cook and Werribee, others are dominated by migrants from India and Middle East thus houses there are bit cheaper compare to Northern and Eastern suburbs. @bligs, Thank is not bad at all. Thank you very much. I would give it very strong consideration. |

Bruxxels: You might as well give Queensland a try. Check this website realestate.com.au. House price is going gaga in Australia. The thing is , building a new house is taking a long time, the reason is due mainly to covid 19. Production of building materials to logistics is affecting the time frame in completing building. Most of the building materials are from overseas. If possible don't buy unit, apartment or townhouse, buy house. @Bruxxels. Thank you. Yes, I am seriously considering other options - Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth etc. I will be making another post to gauge/gather more info. Hearing from ppl who live there is always better than reading online. And yes, I want to buy a detached house. I have a townhouse here and I want to buy a house next. Thanks |

tunlex01: It’s not weird as it’s a standard question to ask if you were in Australia. Even when you are here, you will still be asked your location during interviews. Also if you don’t have Australian experience in your cv, that also gives an inkling as to your location. Does your cv have an Australian address also or you didn’t put any address on it? ohk. Cool. I did not put any address on the cv. Maybe I should. What do you recommend? |

tunlex01: I just reconfirmed now. The numbers are landline numbers but has no issue with that. Landline calls are always enabled on all mobile plans. I think I was not clear about why I would prefer a mobile number. I am not in Australia yet. Currently in Canada and I suspect it looks "weird" to prospective employers that I have a landline number on cv. I had a call from one prospective employer/recruiter and she asked if I was in Australia - lol. I know there could be a thousand and one reasons why she may have asked that, but I have an inkling it was because of the phone number. It was the first question she asked when I answered the call. |

tunlex01: Landline? Skype gives you a mobile number? Why did you think the number you have is a landline? They are virtual landline numbers and not mobile numbers. The mobile code is Aussie is 04. None of the Skype numbers start with 04. I could be wrong but I have not seen one yet. |

Hello everyone,
Can someone please recommend the best app for an Aussie mobile number?
I currently use Skype and if I am not mistaken, that is a landline number.
Thank you. |

iceberg54: Western and south-western Sydney are both within 1hr from CBD and have many new areas with developers offering house and land packages eg. Leppington, Marsden Park, Riverstone, Schofields, Box Hill, Oran Park, Austral etc. I believe there is a sizable number of Africans in these areas.
Regarding price, you won't get anything around the 600k mark apart from apartment units. Single stories - around 800k+ depending on area and double story definitely 900k upwards (but not as high as 1.7m). You can save if you don't mind a town house (Yes, the property market is crazy right now). Check realeastate.com.au or domain.com.au.
I advice you get in first and rent like you mentioned. Then explore those areas in the first few months to decide what you really want.
Cheers. @iceberg54, Thank you very much. Appreciated! |

tunlex01: With that budget, you may not get anything close to 1 and half hours to CBD. I haven’t heard/read of a school with concentration of our own people anywhere even in Sydney because children attend schools close to where they live. Your kids will still be a minority population in any of the schools. Adelaide is even still closely knitted unlike Sydney that’s huge and our own people are scattered across the state. @tunlex01, Thank you! I can move the budget to btwn 1.2M - 1.7M. I am sure that would be enough to get something decent. It looks like the property market is as crazy as it is here in Canada if not worse. I know it is oyiboland so we would also be the minority population. I just want a place or suburb where you get to see/bump into ur kind from time to time. About the school for the kids, I am not concerned about his class per se - more like the population of our kind in the entire school. I have changed my son's school twice here in Canada and I can tell how he has reacted to both situations. I really appreciate your help and all the feedback. |

tunlex01: For clarification, what’s your budget range? Your budget will determine if 45-1 hour will fit into what you want. With the Covid lockdowns and unforeseen circumstances, 1 year is a reasonable allowance. I live in Adelaide but I have asked a few friends in Sydney and will give you a feedback when I get their responses. @tunlex01, Thank you so much. I am grateful. My budget is 600K - 850K. Adelaide is also on my radar. In fact, I would prefer Adelaide to Sydney but my wife is concerned about having enough of "our own ppl" around our kids in school. You know what I mean. |

Hello fellow Aussies,
I am planning to migrate from Canada to Australia and I have secured the Aussie PR already. Yes, I prefer warmer weather to staying indoors most of the time during the year - love the outdoor life.
My question is - what are some of the best places to buy a house 45mins - 1hr from the Sydney CBD? I will sell my house in Canada and move the funds to Aussie. I am hoping to rent for some time(maybe a year) until the new build is ready. I am guessing that is how long it might take. I could be wrong.
I have a young fam so I am looking for a safe neighbourhood with very good schools. I am looking for a new build/construction.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
I will be doing an internal transfer from my current company to the branch in Australia.
Thank you in adv for the assistance. |
