EPISODE 34 “This woman here,” Jemeh pointed to Amanda, “…and I shared a perfect love that broke eternal laws and brought me back to life; the kind of love that can sympathize with the world in the time of tribulation. Let us all deal with our grievances and losses today, for tomorrow we shall channel our destiny towards a new course – the path of heroes,” he continued, “I have been sent back to life to help my kinds discover their powers, understand and use them for the benefit of mankind. Everyone of us here shares a similar history; we have survived one tragedy or the other because the keeper needed us to survive for the sake of the world.” “What’s he talking about, Papa?” Chivera asked Anderson. “Still not clear, Anderson answered.“He’s sounding and acting so strange." “Very much!” The murmuring between Anderson and Chivera continued. Amanda took a grim look at Jemeh and walked closer to him asking,“Are you for real, Jem?” “Yeah!” “Aiit, should we understood all yah saying, how do we save da world and with what powers are you talking bout? You speak in parables…” Jemeh shifted his eyes from Amanda and continued, “Some of us are afraid of our powers, others are ashamed, and have been hiding. Many have been jinxed by their families, and the people around them think of them as evil and paranormal. But these people have been wrong about us – our special abilities are a genetic disorder that we never asked for, so their aftermath effects were never our fault; we were ignorant, but what we do with these powers henceforth is our responsibility.” The silence persisted and Jemeh continued, "… soon, strange creatures that are smarter, faster, stronger and more intelligent than man will invade our planet. And it’ll start right here, I mean right here in Lagos. These monsters have outgrown the capacity of their natural habitat and the most suitable alternative for their survival is earth." “Aliens! I think I know what you’re driving at, Dania, and it’s good to be a hero, but I don’t want to be part of this myth…I just wanna be at peace with my daughters. I’m only human!” Anderson whined. “Earth is about to lose her peace. You’re only a human you say? If that’s true, then how come you could change your appearance?” Jemeh asked Anderson. “Papa!” Chivera shouted and let go of Anderson’s arm. She could remember on two accounts, when she’d accidentally encountered Anderson with a different face, but had thought it was only an illusion. “And you Chivera, is it just human that you’ve got the strength of many men, like you used to say? Look, you've got heavy metal as bones in your body, Vera. None of us here is normal." Jemeh said and moved closer to her. He pocked her on the right cheek with his fore-finger. Chivera jerked and grunted,“Aww! What did you do that for, Jemeh?” “You got the heavy shock, and you know why? It’s because you are a good conductor of electricity.” “Oh! What a family!” Amanda muffled and folded her arms. “And you, Sweetheart,” Jemeh said, walking to Amanda. “You dodged those bullets with the power of your instinct. You saved me with the same power. And had you understood this power, you could have saved your Mum twenty years ago. Amanda, you have the ability to make your imagination come to life.” Amanda became breathless with the revelation. “I have been touching naked wires unharmed since I was a kid, and when our house got gulped by fire, everyone pointed an accusing finger to my uncle. Whereas I caused the electric spark, which was the fire source. The keeper has sent me back to life and I’m here to scout you guys and others of our kind cut across the world. We all have been made to survive for the survival of mankind..." Chivera's attention got stolen by what she was seeing through the window. Her eyes were wild with terror. She opened her mouth and cried out in fright of the scene. It was a scream beyond the lips, a scream that originated from the lungs and nuzzled through the mouth. "Oh my God!" Anderson's eyes poked out with a steady gaze as they traced Chivera's eyes to the window. "What da heck is that?" Amanda drew closer to the window, her feet rooted on the spot. Out there was raining flames of fire like fireflies falling from the sky in a rocket speed. The first flame had an impact with the earth and caused a devastating explosion. The tremor that followed was felt hundreds of metres away, as it cracked the widow pans of most buildings and vehicles. A terrifying whirring of metal followed, it was so penetrating that people had to cover their pinnas against the bombardment of the high-pitched sound wave on their eardrums; something was in the large bubbles of flame. Jemeh chuckled, his eyes were discharging electric spark in flamboyant blue. "Looks like our visitors are here already, let's go and check them out." Chivera's jitters became lost in Jemeh's sparkling eyes, her bones adjusted to give a faint sound of balancing. Amanda found her legs eventually and walked back to Jemeh with a pensive look. A devastating faint smile flickered across her face as she held Jemeh's upper arm and asked, "Are we gonna die, Jem?" "We mustn't die," Jemeh replied. Before the spell of E R I C, security sirens started wailing to the direction of the scene. The whole city soon became kaotic as series of explosions followed the first. Many people panicked, the end of time had come. Just then, a security officer rushed out of the elevator. Anderson who had changed his appearance to a Medical Doctor in white overall hurried to meet him. "Doc, Doc, are you alright?" the guard asked, looking here and there and over Anderson's shoulders with a sweaty face. "Yes, yes! What's going on?" "We are not sure yet. What about the man in the ER?" "He's discharged." "Okay, Doc....we are evacuating everyone from the building, Sir." "Alright, go and alert others, we're right behind you." "Okay, Sir." Jemeh gave Anderson a Weldon sign as the guard turned to return to the elevator. "Are you ready, Pompkin?" Jemeh asked, looking deeply into Amanda's eyes with his strange eyes. "Where you go, I follow, Jem." "Good!" Jemeh said and took the lead to the elevator. Amanda and Chivera followed. It took Anderson a little longer before he could convince himself to join them, and owing to the thought that protecting his daughters would be a propitiatory offering to appease them. This is just the beginning........ The story continues. |
Tbc... EPISODE 43 Amanda opened her eyes and saw Chivera convulsing to an electric shock. Amusement glimmered in her eyes. “Jem!” she hummed, smiled and turned back to see Jemeh seated on the side rail of the bed, unplugging the cords connected to his body from the life support machine. She wanted to scream, run and jump on him, but she waited to see if he wasn’t a stranger in his own flesh and blood. What will she do if Nora’s speculations turned right? She waited anxiously with her heart in her mouth. Jemeh done detaching the cords, got on his feet and walked toward Amanda. Her anxiety intensified as Jemeh got to her and stopped. He gave her a quick stare, she smiled, hoping he would say something but instead, he walked away. Tears damped her eyes all at once. He couldn’t recognize her, she thought and turned around to see where he had headed. There he was checking Chivera’s pulse. Amanda stood stunned watching until he stood up and returned to her. “Are you alright?” Jemeh asked Amanda. “Yea, yeah, just ma neck,” Amanda spluttered, holding her neck. “Is she dead?”she asked. “No," Jemeh continued, “Have we met before?” “Maybe.” "You owe me something, right?” Amanda chuckled and answered, “Yes!... yes I owe you!” Jemeh drew closer to her and gave her a kiss. Actually there was no time for a passionate kiss, but as quick as it was, it blew out the electric bulb on the ceiling directly above them. Right then the elevator started flashing light, someone was coming. Amanda quickly went for the gun on the floor awaiting the occupant of the elevator car. Anderson got out of the elevator and was shocked to see Jemeh alive and her daughter lying lifeless on the floor. He threw an irrational blame on himself for pushing his daughter this far. What explanation would be enough to console her mother? His inner voice questioned him and left him with silent regrets. Losing her only daughter to the Walkers again was what broke his heart the most. He craved for more blood shed as he kept pointing the silver hand gun against Jemeh and Amanda. A minute later, Chivera started grunting in pain and propped herself up on one elbow, her back against the wall. She massaged her neck and flicked her hair to the back, off her face. Anderson lowered himself to her, tilting his gun to a gradient that would still make a reasonable strike on his enemies. He took her hand and steered her up the floor. Chivera's eyes reflected silent apology as she looked into her father’s grey eyes. “Are you alright?” Anderson asked with a divided attention shared between Chivera and his enemies. He became filled with shame, he wish he could explain and apologize to Jemeh, but the situation had gone out of control. Is this bitch a robot? Amanda wondered, how did she manage another quick recovery? Amanda's eyes bulged surprises as Chivera was now standing without support. It was just then that Anderson and Amanda’s eyes had their first meeting. The visual collision instituted a flashback in the heads of both. Amanda recalled how her mother had grunted something about her real father’s eyes just before she went into coma. The truncated statement had been a puzzle to Amanda until now that it looked unfolding. Anderson on the other side remembered his last correspondence with Amanda’s mother many years ago over a phone call. She’d told him that he’d see his eyes in his daughter’s eyes, when he inquired about his newly born baby's looks. She'd refused to say much for the fear of Walker; Amanda’s step-father, then cut all contact between them. Amanda had grown to be the mirror image of Anderson as against the lacuna in the physical features that existed between her squat and chunky Stepfather and her. “Mimi!” Anderson called out loud to satisfy his curiosity. He only knew her as Mimi, the name he’d sent to Mrs. Walker upon the naming of Amanda. Amanda grimaced at the sound of the name; only her mother used to call her by it.“What did you just call me?” Amanda asked Anderson. “What is going on here, Papa?” Chivera butted-in. “She’s your half sister, Chi," Anderson said to Chivera. “What!” shouted Chivera. “Yes!” said Anderson as he lowered his gun to the ground. A grim look was caught in his face as he raised his hands above his head. “Mimi listen, I know this is gonna sound crazy, but I’m your biological father,” Anderson said in a low and appealing voice.“Nkem - NK, your mother was my lover… I’m Anderson… you got those eyes from me.” Amanda also recognized her mother’s name, but it pained her that such a man was her real father that her mother used her last breath to reveal to her. “Shut da Bleep up!” Amanda shouted. Tears began to gather in her eyes. Anderson raised his hand higher. “You don’t know what yah talking about!”she groaned as her eyes darkened up with the sorrow of having her family background shrouded in misery. She was confused, her hand started shivering as she held firmly to the gun, swinging its direction between Chivera and Anderson. She turned to Jemeh without speaking, for his opinion. “Well, he’s telling the truth… his blood runs in you,” said Jemeh. “And how’re you sure about this, Jem?” “I scanned the DNA of you both.” Amanda’s eyes widened with silent questions.“New tricks from Gabriel?”she asked. Jemeh nodded. It gladdened Amanda to know that Jemeh still possessed his abilities after returning to life. She smiled and returned her attention to Anderson. Frustration came upon Chivera, she started putting blames on Anderson for all that had happened. She apologized to Jemehand confessed that she wasn’t the one that crushed Jemeh. She explained further, that Jemeh had been knocked off before she got to him and she was the anonymous caller of the ambulance that took Jemeh to the hospital. “Then who did?”Amanda queried. There was a moment of silence before Jemeh spoke,“Walker did!” “Bof! That son of a bitch is always ahead,” Anderson groaned and began to reveal his revenge plot against Walker in between shame and regret. He told them of how Walker had taken everything from him – the tobacco company, his father and the woman he loved with his child inside her. He narrated how he and Amanda’s mother had planned to settle down upon their graduation from the university, but Walker through blackmail lured Amanda’s grandfather to giving his daughter out for marriage under duress – a marriage aimed at getting the mandate of the black communities for his business brands at that time when racism was touring freely in the world. In the course of revenge, Anderson took to work for Walker in order to get closer to his daughter and taking back the company. The document Jemeh had failed to deliver was meant to blackmail Walker to selling his shares of the company to Anderson. Anderson kept apologizing intermittently in his narratives and everyone began to judge and rationalize his deeds until Jemeh began to speak, standing in the centre of the three. “I tell you, the real villain is not Walker, nor this man standing here," he said, pointing to Anderson. "The world is yet to experience the terror of the true villain,” he continued, “I hurt you, you hurt me, we hurt each other… we are all guilty in one way or two, but it’s time to burry the axe." There was silence in the air as he spoke on. Tbc... |
EPISODE 42 “Nase! Baby, I don’t have to because the hospital is gonna put an end to your friend’s misery today,”Chivera said, smiling, then she frowned up. “I came for you, you can follow me peacefully or make it hard on yourself.” This bitch isn't different from how Jemeh had described her, Amanda thought to herself and quietly narrowed her hand into her bag, grabbed her gun and took out the safety. When Chivera took a step forward, she drew the gun and aimed at her head.“Shush! Bitch!” Chivera reacted to the weapon in Amanda’s hand with Widened eyes. She jerked backward and raise her hands in the air. “Oops! Easy, Babe!” she said. “One more step and yah brain spills on da floor.” Amanda was now in control as she motioned Chivera with the gun out of the way and moved to the door to check on Jemeh’s body. The chart on the monitoring screen was just like the last time she visited. She took a deep breath and focused her eyes fully on Chivera. If she must gain access to Jemeh’s body, she must knock her out, since she’d no nerves to take her life, Amanda's eyes danced to the thought. Chivera noticed Amanda’s bewilderment. Disarming her sprang up in her mind all at once. She’d been trained for this, she’d an inbuilt strength to do this. With martial art moves, she kicked Amanda’s gun swiftly into the air to an unknown direction. Amanda never saw the kick coming, she stood momentarily dazzled until another one smashed on her jaw, and was thrown to the floor by the heavy impact. Her demeanor clearly expressed the extent at which the kick had infringed pain in her as she was now sprawling on the floor. She was sure of passing out if she allowed the girl hit her again. She began to gather some momentum as her vision cleared up a little. She started struggling up on her feet. As she struggled up, one thing kept poking her mind, which was: she’d no much time to spare because of Gabriel. If she must save Jemeh, she must find a way to defeat Chivera in time to access Jemeh's body. With an unusual agility, Amanda hauled her full weight against Chivera like a launched spear, and they fell like heavy logs of wood on the hard floor. Amanda rolled over Chivera and held tightly on her right hand, grunting with the effort, trying to restrict it from bringing out the gun from Chivera's pant, but Chivera soon out powered her and began to elbow her neck many times until her grip slackened and Chivera pulled away from her. Chivera now standing and pointing the gun at Amanda, who was on the floor groaning with the pain of her sprained neck and broken jaw. “You could have saved yourself these bruises, Pretty face! Now get up and move… we’re going downstairs,” Chivera motioned Amanda with the gun. “I’ve had enough of your insolence, I said get up!” Amanda was struggling up the floor in obedience when the support machine indicator started beeping warning signals – the familiar sound of her mother’s last minute on the machine before she passed away. Her heart started beating faster. She recalled her moments with Jemeh in a flash; how they’d shared their common joy and griefs. She gave prayer a second chance – with tears in her eyes. Suddenly, she whirled around to face Chivera, and began to move towards her. Chivera felt uncomfortable with Amanda’s guts. She might be forced to forfeit the ideal plan of taking Amanda alive, she thought, at least she’d an excuse to give. “Nase! I would have no choice other than shooting you if you take one more step,” Chivera threatened. Amanda wasn’t listening to her, she was listening to her instinct, lost in the assurance it was giving her; that she could defeat Chivera even with the gun in hand, she could dodge flying bullets. Darkness glared in her grey eyes as she kept advancing. Chivera took an easy shot, aiming at Amanda's right arm. Amanda dodged the bullet skillfully, and with an unbelieving speed. Chivera frowned at the miss. She let out two bullet instantly and simultaneously, aiming at Amanda’s legs, but again Amanda dodged. Chivera developed a sudden moment of panic as Amanda kept pressing forward. She then let out a multiple of shots, not minding the part of Amanda's body the bullets would hit anymore. Amanda steadied her eyes on each of the five bullets fired at her as they approached her in slow motion; it was a picture in her head playing out for real. She did all sort of movement until the last bullet just flew past her. Chivera didn’t believe her eyes, the next thing she felt was a slam on her head by Amanda and her lights went out. Amanda hurried to the door to Jemeh's ward and started hitting the glass in it with her shoe heel until it shattered. Then she opened the lock from inside and sprang the door opened. She rushed in trying very much to keep her cool as she nervously stared at the screen of the monitoring machine, and then back to Jemeh. She placed her right hand on one side of his cheek and kissed him gently. “Yes!” Amanda hummed, feeling the usual static electric impulse Jemeh gave.“Welcome back, Jem!” she muttered in anticipation. About five second later, the frequency chart on the screen began to move up and the beeping sound started dying down. Amanda’s eyes beamed up at this. She waited Jemeh’s recovery with eagerness until Chivera called from behind with a gun in her hand. Amanda turned around with her hands raised to the roof. Chivera’s recovery was too speedy for any normal human; Amanda’s eyes were asking so many questions as they moved around. Even the heel Amanda had used in knocking out her lights was still dripping fresh blood, but here she was standing and looking not hurt. “I won’t fluff this time around,” Chivera said with her eyes flamed-up; she wanted nothing less than shooting, because Amanda was too risky to be toyed with. Amanda saw the broodiness in Chivera’s eyes, she was certain she would shoot her, but how could she die at this point? At this point when she was hoping to meet Jemeh physically. If only that bravery a moment ago had not gone a million miles away. She made one more fruitless effort to bringing back the instinct, but failed. She would die a million times for Jemeh’s sake, her eyes were closed to the thought as she stood still, awaiting a bullet in her head, but the expectant sound of a gunshot turned out to be the sound of electric spark. EPISODE 41 “I think it’s the spiritual manifesting in the physical," Jemeh said. There was a dark silence between Amanda and Jemeh as Jemeh returned his eyes to the streets and Amanda down sobbing. Few minutes later, Amanda got up all of a sudden with a renewed determination. “Jem! I’m breaking in! I may not be able to control the spiritual but da physical is all mine. I’m not gonna lose you,” Amanda said with brooding eyes. Jemeh, seeing Amanda’s strong determination like never before decided to take the risk of letting her go. “I’m sorry, you I’ll have to go alone,” Jemeh said, “I’m answerable to Gabriel by whim, can’t even take my eyes off him.” “Listen, Jem,” Amanda now spoke in whispers.“I don’t believe yah chance of survival is lost, don’t listen to that angel of death, fight back!” “Alright, now, go to the hospital and do what you have to do. I’ll try and buy us some time.” Jemeh’s sudden faith brought a devastating smile to Amanda's face, her strength began to grow. “Aye!” Amanda said. Jemeh moved closer to her, trying hard to ignore Gabriel’s presence. He held her by both hands in his abstract hands, looking deeply into her eyes. “And if we never meet again?” Amanda asked. Jemeh propelled his lips forward for a kiss and Amanda took it. And what supposed to be a kissing – the- air for both, ended up unbelieving; they felt each others lips, though it only lasted a second, but they felt it. “Wow!" They chorused in mumbles. Amanda couldn’t stop blushing, “You owe me more of this, Jem.”she said. “Absolutely!” Jemeh responded, smiling. “Now, hurry along, let me handle my old friend.” “Aye!” Amanda said and started for the staircase. “Remember, I’m not losing you!” Jemeh spoke loud enough for her to hear from the distance. His eyes narrowed with darkness as he returned his gaze to Gabriel and started walking to him. Gabriel wasn’t cool with Jemeh’s attitude which had taken him a little unaware. As one of the Keeper’s oldest Guardian in charge of those in transition from mortality to immortality, he was powerful but couldn’t tell of Jemeh’s newly developed resistance, he couldn’t tell for sure, the extent at which the woman whom he had sacrificed his only hope of survival had enchanted him. “Jemeh!” Gabriel thundered, “I showed ye the path to life, but ye have chosen the path to perdition instead?” he yelled in a voice that echoed anger. He wasn’t clothed in his usual fine linen, white and clean, and hadn’t come in his ocean blue eyes.“Remember and forget not, Jemeh, how thou provokest thy Keeper to wrath in thy wilderness, from the day thou didst depart from that woman until now. Thou have been rebellious even against me,” Gabriel’s eyes was a fury flame as he spoke. “What would you have me do, she was dying, Gabriel,”Jemeh said. “What would I have thou doest?” Gabriel thundered.“Thy freedom is ended, Jemeh!” The clouds opened up and a very bright light beamed down from heavens. Jemeh knew the end had come for him; the light Amanda had always talked about was right in front of him, but he could at least buy Amanda more time by engaging Gabriel in conversations. “Alright, alright, but don’t I deserve a second chance? I mean, I was unjustly murdered in cold blood.” “Thou hadst it.” “No, that was my first… I mean a second one.” Gabriel shook his head nonchalantly, chuckled and ordered Jemeh to walk to the light. Jemeh wanted to hesitate, but quickly cautioned himself, knowing Gabriel would throw him into the light with a simple touch. So, he started walking to the light, but slowly. A little closer to the light, he turned back to Gabriel and resumed his whining. “You said you gave up your life saving your wife, right?” Jemeh asked. “Yes, and how didest she pay me back?” “You never told me.” Jemeh shrugged his shoulders. Gabriel lingered for a while before speaking in a remorseful voice.“She abideth with another man three months after i was gone. I was just too weak.” “You weren’t weak, Gabriel, you were in love and it’s a beautiful thing.” “Believeth it or doubt, thou is about to be consumed by the same weakness. Now, will thou keepest moving or doeth we the hard way?” Gabriel said and started moving towards Jemeh. “Gabriel, you know what? The first time I met you, I thought you were the most gentle man I had ever seen, but what you’re about to do now…” Jemeh said looking down. "I'm sorry my friend, I'm only a messenger of the Keeper." ************* Amanda parked her car some distance away from the hospital. In that odd hour, the only sign of life in the neighbourhood was the sounds of electrical generator sets, which were loud enough to muffle the sound of her footsteps as she walked into the hospital yard. She tip-toed past the slumbering security man at the main gate. At the reception room, she was lucky also to have the receptionist sleeping. She headed for the tenth floor, not knowing exactly what to do with the guard there. All along, she’d seen no sign of Chivera or any company until she got to the floor and found Chivera staring at Jemeh’s lifeless body through the transparent door. “Bof! You must be Amanda, I’ve been expecting you,” Chivera said, without turning to face Amanda. She’d seen Amanda before she got to the floor. “And you must be Chivera – da coward.” “Really? Hahahaha!” “You hurt him once before, you bitch, buh not again because I’m here, you'll have to pass through me!" Amanda snarled. “Nase! Baby, I don’t have to because the hospital is gonna put an end to your friend’s misery today.” Tbc.... |
EPISODE 40 Chivera called at Anderson’s place in an impromptu, disregarding their well defined terms of meeting. “Papa, where’s Mother?” “Away!” Chivera sat more relaxed. “My source had just informed me that the target will be taken off the support machine tomorrow.” “Why, and by whose decision?” “He didn’t tell.” “I think someone bigger than us is behind this.” “Don’t you think it might be family’s decision?” Chivera asked. “Family would want to give him more time and they couldn’t have run out of cash, the government is paying and not them. Any way, it’s good for us – we don’t have to interfere anymore ." "She'd been spotted around his ward several times,” Chivera said. "Really! We execute plan B right away then – take her if she shows up tomorrow. So the two had been seeing each other, what a snitch!... we're trading Amanda for the document. “Yeah!” “Do not blow up tomorrow.” Anderson moved closer to Chivera and parted the hair from her face. “And be careful, ma fille.” “Okay, papa, I will.” ************************* Jemeh felt a lot more better having his memories back. Amanda was much more delighted about the new development, unknowing to her, Jemeh would be gone by this time the next day . She kept thinking and fantasizing on how to break into the ER, and presenting Jemeh to her father as a hero then prosecute Anderson for his sins. “My Dad's gonna be delighted to meet you.” “What if I was caught in the cameras?” “You weren’t caught, he would have killed you himself.” "I wish I can turn back time.” “And what’re you gonna do?” “I would never have met you, Manda,” Jemeh said in a shaking voice, “It’d have spared me the painful moment of losing you.” Amanda looked down but in all, she still saw hope. “My Mum didn’t die on da accident spot, she was taken to da hospital and placed in Emergency Room.” “Did she ever appeared to you?” “No.” “I was there with her for the three agonizing days she spent fighting for life.” Jemeh drew closer to her. “Did you know that my Dad never showed up, not even once?” “Such a shrewd man.” “Yeah, he’s an ass,” Amanda said, “So sad I couldn’t save ma mother. “It wasn’t your fault, Manda.” “You may say that again, but I’m not gonna let it happen again to someone I care about…I’m breaking in by midnight.” “I won’t let you, Manda.” “Tryna stop me then!” ******************** Very early in the morning of the next day, Chivera kitted up in black hood body-fitting camo, black sneakers and a digital wrist watch. She stood in front of the bath-mirror, drawing some lines on her face with camo paste. Done with that, she began to load her waist–bag with some sniper equipments: a sniper scope, a knife, ear piece and others. She checked her wrist watch, it was almost 2am; a perfect timing she’d trained with. She took a deep breath and checked to see her pistol fully loaded. She put it on safety and shoved it into her pants, then she started moving out to fetch her car. **************** Amanda suddenly got up and stiffen a yawn. “Damn! half past two already!” she groaned as she took a glance at the wall clock. She’d wanted to be at the hospital before that time, but for her late night chat with Jemeh. She’d slept off on the sofa they shared last night. She rushed to her room to get dressed and in few minutes, she was out in a dark blue knee-length gown upon black leggis. She put her handgun in her handbag and went on the deck. There she found Jemeh standing and staring at the gloomy streets. “Jemeh,” Amanda called, "I’m set for the hospital.” Jemeh shifted his gaze to Amanda, “I’m sorry you can’t go.” “No! please, lemme go! I promise I’ll be fine!” “You got company.” “Who?” “Chievera." “I can handle her." “No, you can’t! she may not be alone and your abduction is their target.” “How did you know all these?” "I paid them a visit last night,” Jemeh continued, "Someone has also signed for my oxygen to be removed today.” “What?” “This is a lost battle, Manda, the end seems to be closer than the clothes I'm putting on. Gabriel is also here for me.” “But why is all these happening same time?” Amanda cried and lowered to the concrete floor. TBC... |
EPISODE 39 “Leave my office!” said Anderson. Jemeh left the office without a word, but with two things hanging in his mind: If the cameras caught him snooping around in the office, he’d expose Anderson; and if Anderson fired him for his incompetence, he’d expose him as well. Afterwards, Anderson started seeing Jemeh as a snitch – maybe he was just over sensitive about the whole situation. Jemeh however was acting as cool as possible, awaiting the dreadful. Walker was his usual self. Jemeh kept waving his observations, still awaiting the ordeal, but was shocked to his marrow by the conversations that escaped from Chivera’s office three days later, and even though they didn’t mention his name, he needed no prophet to tell he was in the box. “… Pere, I told you before, he’s too soft for this operation,” a female voice, which Jemeh decoded to be Chivera’s spoke. “Nul!...he gave up our one good chance, maybe our only chance," the male voice groaned. “What're we gonna do now, Papa?”the female asked. The male voice was Anderson’s, Jemeh needed no reaffirmation. So, it’d been a father – daughter affair... hmm! Jemeh pondered and listened on. “Since he’d turned out to be a threat to us, there’s only one but ugly way out of this mess,” the man spoke in a dark voice.“I diot è tre execute!” Jemeh’s brain was thundered. He began to count his steps backwards. Even though he was an illiterate in French language, he understood the last word, ‘execute'. His heart began to quake, but with the heart of a man, he mustard and subjected his ears to hearing again. “What if you just send him away, Papa?” “And what if he snitches on us to the Chairman?” “Bof!” “Do as I’ve said, we’ll switch over to plan B.” “Take Amanda Walker hostage?" “Yes!” The name ‘Amanda Walker’ range a bell. The girl Jemeh had met some months ago at the Halloween party. “Yes! She goes by those names,” Jemeh said under his breath. “Could she be the Chairman’s daughter?”There wasn’t really much time to think, Jemeh rationalized quickly and started for the elevator to take himself out the building, then look for a way to contact Amanda from the address she gave him at the party. He rushed to the subway where he’d packed his car. If only he knew he’d been dinning with the Devils, he cried deeply within himself as his peering eyes navigated his surroundings. Approaching his car, a man in dark-blue overall, holding a toolbox walked past him. He gave the man a quick interrogative stares over his shoulder and increased his Pace. On getting to his car, he gave it a quick observation, it was intact. He took out his car key to be inserted in the key hole, but it fell off his weak grip. As he lowered to the ground to pick up the key, he could see greasy stains at the base of the front tyres. He raised his head and looked around the quiet passage. His mind flew back to the man with the toolbox. There was no better way to explain the scenario than to think the man had tampered with his car breaks. In all this, his eyes showed not the real fear that was deep inside him. In a twinkle, he started moving out of the subway, looking here and there as he walked. He was the only staff that usually parked at that location, the car park was big enough to accommodate his car notwithstanding. No time for self castigation he thought as he kept on moving in unsteady steps. He would needed a taxi to get out of the vicinity at once, but the Uber taxi he’d called seconds ago would take five more minutes to arrive; it was closest available at that point in time. Five minutes became fifty minutes, as he waited in haste, then he decided to move out to the road, a little away from the office building. As he walked along the road side, he could hear the chug of a car engine behind him. He looked back, but the stationed car had stopped talking, only to resume humming when he turned back. Jemeh turned alarmed and decided to cross over to the other side of the road with an immediate alacrity. As he waited the cars to obey the pedestrians crossing signs, the sound drew closer; a meter close and accelerating behind him. He looked back only to be swept off his feet into the sky. It was so sudden that the only pain he felt was like the piecing of a needle – before his lights went out. The lacuna between life and death was smaller than the size of an atom – so was the transition. The flashback was such a vivid one, Amanda looked up at Jemeh with great pity and fear. “So many cruel people in the world,” she said in a low voice. TBC... |
EPISODE 38 “You must understand the ambiguity of my position, Mr. Dania,” Anderson said in order to calm any inquisitiveness his task would likely spring up. “I do, Sir.” “Here!” Anderson handed the document over to Jemeh for full inspection. The document looked so unusual. It’d so much stamps and signatures. “Have you come across it before?" “No, Sir.” "I need you to dig out the original copy." Though Anderson had succeeded in putting Jemeh in an awkward position, he was still able to ask a few questions. “So, I’m stealing the document?” Jemeh asked. “Very smart!" Anderson adjusted in his seat.“This is why you’re my Personal Assistant.” He beamed a faint smile. Jemeh’s body temperature suddenly rose beyond normal as he mentally counted the number of surveillance cameras he’d encountered in Walker’s office. "...outsmart them, can’t you?” Anderson said, when Jemeh voiced the number of cameras to Anderson. Anderson had a way of making risky situations looked palatable. After all said and done, it looked he was able to buy Jemeh over with his promise of monetary gifts and job security. “So, Sir, where exactly is the document? The office is quiet spacious.” “That’ the hardest of the task, like I said, you’ll have to search for it.” “Alright, Sir, I’ll do my best?” “Your very best, because this task is highly classified." “I understand, Sir.” “Good!” Jemeh got home that night, laid on the bed - sleepless; his mind had been whirling from all that had happened back in the office. Instinctively, he could see trouble looming on the horizon. What if he got caught? He got up and sat propped against the pillows to the headboard slat. Jemeh trusted in Chivera during the weekend over the burning issue and Chivera as predicted by him, advised him to play an accomplice to Anderson’s so called classified task. There was no more counsel for him, he just looked forward to the ordeal of the coming week. Monday came rather too soon, Jemeh took off to work half-heartedly. When he got to Anderson’s office that morning, he met Walker having a discussion with Anderson. Walker handed over his office keys to him for his daily routine. There was so much to be done in file-sorting and rearrangement, but Walker would do that himself or be present when that was being done. Jemeh was the only one in the entire company having access to the office in Walker's absence, not even Anderson. As Jemeh set out to exit the office, Anderson gave him a wink; a signal to take his time to comb the office for the document, while he would hold Walker captivated in conversations. Walker’s office occupied about one-third of the entire floor. It had a reception of its own. As Jemeh stood at the entrance, his eyes had taken in the actual dimension of the office. He exhaled heavily, as he stood perplexed – not knowing where and how to began the hunt without being caught by the eyes of the snarling cameras. His head began to spin, the office perhaps and the cameras glint suddenly turned a monstrous stares that almost made him ran out of the office. He wasn’t seeing clearly anymore, he was choking, he was about turn back for some air when suddenly, the lights began to flicker. It was so fortunate in such a time. Jemeh’s eyes lighted-up all at once. He rushed to the chairman’s seat as the light went off again and sat. He observed that the drawers lined up along the curved desk were all locked. The lights came up again, he raised his head and started dusting the desk. Again, the lights went off, that was when he observed fully beneath the desk: each of the drawers had a spy camera attached beneath its extended roof. He raised his head. Rivulets of sweat ran down his face in the chilling office as his eyes began to dance to the rhythm of his heartbeat. He prayed Anderson was able to buy him more time as he kept dusting what was not dusty. When the lights went out again this time, Jemeh took a paper-tape and paste on the eye of the camera, then he began to test one key at a time from the bunch for a match. For each drawer, he would blindfold the eye of the camera before inserting the key. “Are you okay, Youngie?” Walker asked from the office entrance. Jemeh put up a composure and turned, recognizing the voice to be Walker’s. “Yes, Sir, except I slept late last night,” he lied. “Party or girls?” Walker whined, moving closer to Jemeh who was already on his feet. Jemeh smiled with no verbals. “C’mon and help me with something over here!" Walker was now by the book shelves. (The lights now stabilized) “You haven’t emptied the bin?” Walker’s eyes wondered to the waste basket beside the shelves “Oh, I’m sorry, Sir… the unstable lights distorted me.” Some minutes later, Jemeh joined Anderson in his office. Anderson had caught the jitters already - Jemeh found him upstanding with a look of unrest beaming up his face as he gave the door a steady gaze, as if waiting for someone to walker in. “Hmm!” Anderson exhaled heavily as his eyes beheld Jemeh. “You're good?” he asked. “Yes, Sir," Jemeh answered. A dark smile crossed Anderson’s face. “I’m sorry, Sir." “What!” Anderson exclaimed, squeezing his face - this mission can't be failed! “I’m sorry, sir," Jemeh reaffirmed as if he had heard Anderson's inner voice. the reason why writers are tagged with poverty especially in this part of the earth is because there is a few readers and are unwilling to pay for or appreciate the craft of writing. stories don't come that easily... survivors had cooking more than a year ago and it's still cooking! #100 is nothing tbh. but for the passion I won't be discouraged. |

EPISODE 37 The D-day finally came, everyone expected that a security van or some sort of security escort would accompany Walker from the airport but surprisingly, the multi million dollars business merchant drove himself all the way from the airport to the Island in a security challenged society. Walker walked straight to Anderson’s office and would have taken Anderson completely unaware, but for the quick correspondence from the company security men. The sight of Walker commanded respect irrespective of his body structure. Jemeh joined his boss as he jumped off his seat to welcome Walker, now standing before them. Later that evening, a cocktail part was held to honour his arrival, and to introduce the new staffs admitted after his last visit. Jemeh’s attachment to Anderson made Walker to notice him just on time. “Who’s this young man, Anderson?” Walker asked as Jemeh came to get a permit from Anderson through whispers. “My PA, one of the new staffs.” “Can I borrow him for my stay?” “He’s all yours.” The two men kept discussing the forth coming stakeholders meeting, as Jemeh left them in search of Chivera in the big hall. They barely had time to go out together for lunch these days - since he assumed his new responsibilities. He'd been working round the clock and sometimes would lost his weekend to work. “Here you are, Miss Frenchy!” Jemeh gently held Chivera by the waist from behind. “I’ve looked for you, everywhere!” “Moche! Watch those fingers, Monsieur!” Chivera whirled around and faced Jemeh. “...because they might become too attracted.” ”Hahaha! where’s your homeboy?” Jemeh asked Chivera, referring to the young man that had been hovering around her. “I lost him to the crowd.” Chivera answered and asked back, “And where’s your boss?” “I sold him to Mr. Chairman.” “Nul!” Chivera snapped. “You can’t sell him!” “Hey, what’s that for? You don’t have to call me an idiot, I was just kidding!" “Then, I was kidding too." Chivera’s strong defence and backings of Mr. Anderson was stronger than a working relationship, Jemeh ruminated, he'd find out sooner or later. Jemeh had met a handful of stakeholder of the public liability company and was Astonished to know that some of them were just about his age. His drive for success had increased instantaneously as he shared same hall with the la-di-da. Jemeh started reporting directly to Walker after the party. At first, there were traces of anxiety in him, but faded very fast. Anderson didn’t fully relieved him off his duties – he still had him running errands for him, and in most of their conversations, Anderson would remind him that he was just on a temporal assignment with the Chairman, and had promised him success in his career as long as he would remain loyal. Jemeh wondered why Anderson kept talking about loyalty as if he wasn’t loyal enough. His tedious duties had turned him into an official slave with thick salary hung around his neck as chains. He'd been running errands without rationalizing – he was broken. Solaced by his new fat salary he'd been until one afternoon when he was invited by Anderson to his office. “Mr. Dania, by now, you should know that diplomacy rules the cooperate world.” Jemeh nodded even though he didn’t understand what exactly Anderson was driving at. “Please have your seat.” Mr. Anderson motioned him to the seat opposite him. “Thank you, Sir." Jemeh sat down. “I would need you to bring out a document from the chairman’s office.” “What document, Sir?” Jemeh inquired, adjusting in his seat. “I will let you see a photo sample of it.” Mr. Anderson brought out an A4 sized paper in black and white from his drawer. EPISODE 36 Jemeh started, “I worked with Merit Plc and it all began there. Any idea of who Merit Walker is?” he asked Amanda. “Yea… yea, he’s ma Dad,” Amanda spluttered in bewilderment. Jemeh continued; his flashback had travelled down the time, when Mr. Anderson made him his Personal Assistant, just when he was getting used to working with Mr. Niyi. “My duty seems to change daily at the whim of my boss,” Jemeh had said to Chivera as they sat out for launch in their usual restaurant. "Bof!” Chivera exclaimed in french, “Is it for good?” “Emmm… maybe, but I was already used to working with Mr. Niyi, then the sudden change.” “How about those pointless complaints by the orgy perfectionist about you? You know what, I think you complain too much.” “He isn't as horrible as I painted him initially," Jemeh continued, "But how is it like, working with Mr. Anderson?” “Nase! I didn’t expect you to jitter about working with anyone here after all these time you’ve spent already. Well, Anderson is the coolest to work with around here. You got his back, you got no job insecurity problem, he’s the biggest fish here.” “But I got no boobs,” Jemeh said with laughter. “Wake up!” Chivera sighed, “Mr. Anderson is very professional.” Chivera would need more evidence to convince Jemeh, not after the unprofessional intimacy he’d observed between her and the ‘biggest fish'. Jemeh rationalized within himself just as the waiter brought their order. “Watch what you’re doing, Miss!” Jemeh yelled a little aloud to bring back the young lady's attention from Chivera’s outfit. “I’m sorry, sir,” the waiter said and left. “Listen to me, Jemeh, your new position is an elevated one, you should be happy.” “That’s true though.” “Yeah.” Some minutes later when they finished up with their meals, Jemeh retired to his new office, which sat adjacent to Mr. Anderson's office, and took to Mr. Anderson in his office, the file he’d worked on the previous day. “Mr. Dania,” Mr. Anderson called, as Jemeh was now standing, with a desk separating them. “Sir!”Jemeh responded. “You’ve been rescued from Niyi’s many troubles. Working as my PA, you’ve got to be very smart; your loyalty is not negotiable.” “Alright, sir." “Good, you may now leave to work on the other files." Few months later, the rumour that the Chairman of the company; Merit Walker was coming from the States became trendy in the entire company. Only a few of the staffs had seen Walker before, as he visited once in every leap years and would stay up to a month before going back. For junior staffs like Jemeh, it was an opportunity to meet the so much talked about business guru. A week to Walker’s arrival, an event which generated a mixed reaction across all the departments of the company occurred: there was a management shake-up which affected Mr. Niyi. He was forced to resign actually as a result of some stacks that suddenly moulded up in his portfolio. Two days to walker’s arrival, Jemeh sat snoozing in his office chair after a long rumination on Mr. Niyi’s unexpected exit, which somehow to him indicated job insecurity. Niyi was a disciplined man, he’d taught Jemeh everything he now know about office handling, driving and so much more. He flashedback on Niyi’s words to him just before he exited the building - words of consternation. “Gring!!! Gring!!!" Jemeh observed it was his new boss on the intercom. “Hello, Sir.” “Come at once.” “Yes, Sir," Jemeh answered and hauled himself to Anderson office at once. “Listen, Dania, the Chairmen is coming soon. I need you to tend to his office while he’s around.” “Alright, Sir.” “He doesn’t likes timidity,” Anderson asserted.“Well, I’m sure you can impress him - that’s why you’ve been chosen.” “Yes, Sir.” “That will be all for now, but see me after work. You’ll be accompanying me to Festac for a meeting.” “Alright, Sir, but Festac meeting is scheduled for tomorrow.” “I moved it up the roster.” “Alright, Sir.” TBC... Yes, my people! My people! EPISODE 35 “I don’t know how to!” Jemeh's head glided as he spoke. “Look at me, Jem. Look at me!” she continued,“I’m fine now, the man is gone." She thought Jemeh was giving a full vent of his emotions in the violent outburst. From the onset, Gabriel had warned Jemeh on how much humans could create high and uncontrollable emotions in a spirit man like him, but Jemeh didn’t comprehend Gabriel’s admonition. He’d always believed he was flesh and blood anyway. “Jemeh, please stop it, Jem, please…!” Amanda broke out in tears. Jemeh heard her sob in his unstable state; it was so coaxing, such that in a twinkle, the fireworks began to die down and tranquility started returning to Meverton Road and its neighbourhoods. One hour after, rescuers and anti-terrorist squads had stormed the area with different security equipments and personnel. Jemeh looked at the gravity of his destruction, many cars had been crushed, a building was still flaming and many people had been injured. He moaned, docked his head and lowered to the ground. “Are you alright?” the voice of Amanda came from no where. “Yes… yes, I am," Jemeh spluttered in a low voice without raising his head. “Jem, ain’t yah fault, aye? We’ve got to leave." “No, I’m too risky to be around you, please, go without me,” Jemeh spoke in a sob-consumed voice. “Ain't leaving without you, get up and lets go. We gone sort things out." When they got home, Jemeh told Amanda how all consuming and intoxicating the thing inside him became. He told her about Gabriel’s admonition. Amanda listened to his narrative in total silence. She was pleased with the part that revealed the strong feelings Jemeh had for her and felt rather safer with him, undermining what had happened about two hours ago. He explained how his inability to help her led to his frustration and felt a little embarrassed to acknowledged that watching Raymond play his role further intensified his frustration which led to the outburst. In Amanda’s bewilderment, she wondered what manner of man would have a plain heart, so straightforward, no secrets, a man who would apologise even when he could debate - such a man with the beauty of a child’s heart. She could imagine how beautiful his life was, and wished she was part of it. “I’m really sorry for over reacting when I saw that man; Raymond. I’m not real and may never be. Look Manda, you need someone real in your life, you can’t continue this way with me. And I think that man is a good man, I’ll be watching. All I want is your happiness, Pompkin,” Jemeh spoke without looking at Amanda. Amanda’s eyes poked out surprises. She had not heard her nickname for the past eighteen years. The name brought back the memories of her mother. Her eyes began to invite tears as she spoke. “Jem, if you were in my head, how come you didn’t see da part that says I will never give up on you? Thanks for keeping my beautiful days of Pompkin alive.” Jemeh lifted his eyes on Amanda, “If I could wipe those tears from those beautiful eyes, I would us my tongue, because they are like diamonds to me.” Jemeh’s words lifted the dims in Amanda’s face. “I’m sorry for not telling you, Jem.” “Tell me what?” “That I love you.” “I Know already… it’s all spread out in your head. What else are you sorry about?" “For being unable to help you.” “And?” “Hmm…and?”Amanda moved her eyes about. “…and you should be more sorry for not telling me of the cancer that will be killing you in two days time,”Jemeh broke out of her navigation. "How could you do that to me?" “Jem, I’m sorry for not telling you about it. I’ve been keeping it from everyone and I thought I should keep it from you da most. I didn't have to deep yah hurt.” “I know the truth you speak of, Manda,” Jemeh said. “Then lets not spend my last moments in anguish," Amanda said. “On the contrary, my last moment!” said Jemeh. “What do you mean?" Amanda asked with raised eyebrows. “When I was inside you, I recalled the words of Gabriel. He once told me I had healing ability – a doze of it, and that’s what would be used to bring me back to life if I would – ever get back to life. He however warned me against using it on someone else, as it was my only chance of ever returning to my body again,” Jemeh narrated. “Tell me you didn’t do what I’m thinking." “I’m not sorry I did. Your cancer’s gone, Manda.” “You didn’t have to do that, Jemeh,” Amanda began to sob again as she flashed back on her anticipation to meeting Jemeh physically someday. “I’ll die a million times again and again to see you well, Manda." “Oh – Jem!" “Get up, Pompkin. You don’t want to spend my last moments wailing, do you?.” The evening was full of emotions. They decided to forget the odds and just chat and laugh, sharing their past, and it was surprising to Amanda when Jemeh launched into his past – a past beyond the Halloween party. “Wow, good to have yah memories fully back.” “Yeah… I now know how I got into that bed, and who crushed me. It all came back to me." he narrated on, "While I was inside you, the approaching truck struck my memories." "Lemme know the monster that did this to you!” Amanda said as she got up from her seat. EPISODE 34 It’d been six straight hours, and there was still no sign of Judas. Amanda and Jemeh sat in the car, parked opposite Luther Specialist Hospital. There was a brooding silence as they awaited Judas's phone call at least. Three hours later, they were still waiting, waiting in vein. Jemeh soon became impatient, and wanted to go home. He could not but marvelled at Amanda’s stern determination to save him. He flicked a glance at her again and saw that she was still looking all ready to wait for eternity, if that was what it would take for Judas's arrival. “I would have gotten some food for you to eat, if only I was normal,”Jemeh said. “Everything is going to be fine, aye? And how did you know I’m hungry?” Amanda asked, turning to Jemeh with a weak smile. “Even your smile gives a clue,” Jemeh said, “Now, run along and get something to eat." “Don’t feel like." “It’s an order! You should by now, know I hate to see you this way." “Oh, Jem!” Amanda groaned as she took her handbag and unbelted. The eatery, four buildings away from the hospital, smiled at Amanda as she trudged across the road, without proper surveillance. She found herself in the middle of the road standing transfixed with the loomy stares from the oncoming vehicles. She’d this fobia for fast moving objects and great heights. She'd once disclosed to Jemeh. Jemeh turned to see her looking confused in the centre of the road. He kept laughing at her jittering as vehicles moved beside her shivering knees with warning horns, then a foggy horn came from a maniac tractor-trailer driver. The truck was approaching from behind with a speed too high for such a heavy duty. He wasn’t looking ready to swerve his lane like others, nor break down. Amanda whirled around in broad eyes to see the monster coming for her. Her feet were were nailed to the spot, so that she could not move, but could only scream so loud. Jemeh dashed out of the car at once in the heat of the moment, and in a flash, he hauled himself inside Amanda and threw her to the road side, just before the truck would have crushed Amanda in pieces, then he left her body at once. Amanda laid unmoving. Eye witnesses couldn’t believe a lady with such agility and bravery, as they rushed to her rescue. A tall, dark and well-built middle-aged man lowered to the ground and lifted her lifeless body on his thighs as water came splashing on her face, as well as the man's burberry suit. Water! Water! The crowd chanted for more sachet water. Jemeh became uneasy with a sudden moment of panic as he saw Amanda lying unconscious in the arms of a stranger. He noticed some rescuers staring at her exposed thighs in her sleeveless short gown. Her beauty was contagious and charming, the crowd grew more and more in no time. The man carrying her was acting too familiar or caring, Jemeh started withdrawing his gratitude. Few minutes later, Amanda coughed lightly and opened her eyes partly to see a number of eyes descending on her. She gently adjusted the length of her gown and dabbed her eyes again and again to see clearly those faces and relaxed back in Jemeh’s arms until she turned around to see that the man whose opened arms she had found solace wasn’t really Jemeh’s. A feeling of sudden panic took over her. She made an attempt to get up, but her strength failed her. Jemeh began to pace back and forth behind the crowd in frustration. He felt so helpless in the situation that his eyes began to blaze with fury. Now seeing Jemeh, Amanda found a little strength and with the support of the gentle man, found her feet. Opinions and questions started springing up from the crowd. “Where are you going to, Miss?” a voice questioned from the crowd. “Maybe we should take her to the hospital,” another voice suggested. Amanda finally spoke, “That’s my car," she said, pointing to a pink Mercedes convertible, parked across the road. “Please take me across." “Alright,” the man said. He curled his right arm round Amanda’s waist and led her across the road. Jemeh just stood watching. He could hear some observers talking about Amanda’s beauty; he had the ability to filter voices and amplify them from a distance. “Thanks for yah kindness,” Amanda said to the man as he handed over to her, her handbag. “It’s my pleasure. I’m Raymond, but just call me Ray." “Amanda." “Alright Amanda, you’re sure you wouldn’t need me to drive you home or to the hospital? My family hospital is just around the corner." “Nah, thanks…I'm fine now and you’ve done well already, hey!” Jemeh listened and watched from the other side of the road as the man spoke to Amanda with a gentle mien and in his rich deep voice. Amanda didn’t lost her sight on Jemeh. She wondered why he was still at the other side of the road, then she remembered a book she’d read on men that are jealous. “Thanks again, Mr. Raymond… Ray. I really gotta go." "Alright,” Raymond said amidst smiles, “Here’s my card, you can call me at anytime.” He dropped the card on the car bonnet and left. With reluctance, Amanda picked up the card and slammed the car door gently as she sat heavily, expecting Jemeh to appear, but instead, the lights from the neighbourhood started flickering. The bulbs started exploding and shortly after, fireworks sprang up from the swinging electric cables running down the road. “Jemeh!” Amanda shouted. She knew his fury was causing the fireworks. The scene became terrifying with the explosion of a car in motion caused by its contact with a cut off overhead cable. Amanda hurried out of the car to meet Jemeh who was standing with a hypnotizing dark startled eyes, sparkling with a glimmer of light. “Jemeh!” Amanda stood in front of him, “Yah gonna get everyone killed, please stop!" She dabbled her fingers around Jemeh, trying to touch him, but in vein. TBC.. |
francium001:not intentional. just that his mind is so unstable, so are his deductions - the reason why he has all over his memory that he had slept with Fatima whereas it was just a wish...even Jemeh fell for this. In my writing style, I'm trying to do more of 'showing' emotions with words than 'telling'. The reason I avoid dialogue tags such as: " I lost my wallet," he said sadly. instead, "I lost my wallet," he said without looking up from the floor as he spoke. "i said, get out of my house!" He shouted angrily and walked up to the stranger to drag him out. instead, "I said, get out of my house!!!" he said, pointing his forefinger towards the stranger and matching forward to him without a break. the exclamation mark has covered for 'shout' now, 'pointing his forefinger towards the man and matching to him without a break' simply show anger or warning that would likely lead to him being kicked out. But the interesting part of it is that, a vacuum is created for readers to explore and solve the riddle created by the writer. sometimes a reader can give it a better justification. The bottom line is that it engages readers and not spoonfeed them like the initial. if you can understand the 'showing' then it wouldn't be difficult for you to follow the story proper, hence, the answer(s) to your questions would be smiling at u in the lines that you've read, and you won't keep searching. follow this new understanding and go back to read every line and get the best of this story. It's meant to touch your thinking/emotions, your ability to pass judgement and solve riddles. thanks for reading all along! love love love y'all! |

EPISODE 33 “What did you see?” Amanda inquired, trying hard to look into Jemeh's eyes. “I wasn’t seeing anything about me. I was seeing him - his memory, he killed my father.” “Asshole! Who’s he?” “He’s my cousin… I stayed with him, when i first moved to this city before moving out on my own." “We can’t confront him right now, we'll need him to get access to yah body, since he’s yah relative, but we can’t trust him. Please, do not react, Jem.” “Alright… go save him from his misery,”Jemeh said, as he sighted Judas still holding on to his frozen posture. Amanda moved closer to Judas and whispered to his hearing that Jemeh had left his body. Judas opened his eyes and waggled them around. "Wow, I’m glad it did worked, can I have my balance?” “I’m sorry, it didn't work, but I have a message for you," Amanda said without blinking, neither smiling. Jemeh gave her a sign to take thing easy and follow the original plan. “'Jemeh!' Does the name rings a bell?” “Jemeh, Jemeh.....what about him?” “He’s the one in the box.” “What?” “Yeah, you don’t know?” “I don’t. We have not seen nor talked for a long time now.” “Oops!” “Yes, so, you knew I was his cousin all this while?” “Nah…he read yah memory and his name is in it.” At this point Judas became nervous, trying hard not to believe the visitor. “Who exactly are you to Jemeh?” “His girl?" Judas became suspicious. He reasoned for once that the visitor might be an imposter, trick to harm him. Moreso, if Jemeh’s spirit was truly around, it could harm him for his past sin. He took his phone and called Jemeh’s number, but it was switched off. “How am I suppose to believe you?” Judas stared at Amanda’s mysterious grey eyes again. “Didn’t you feel his effect when he was inside you?” “No, I mean maybe, I only felt a mild electronic shock.” “Electric shock, electronic shock, well, that was Jemeh. Hey, you’ve got to believe me, aye? I’d also need you to gain access to his ward.” “Why me? I don’t even know the hospital where he is. I’m sorry I can’t help you.” “Please!” “Why can’t you just go in yourself?” “His ward can only be a accessed by his family members.” “Why the security?” “Dunno, you should know.” “I don’t know either, and that’s the more reason, I can’t help you!” Judas continued, "Look, Miss. I think it’s high time you took your leave. I would need to verify this report.” “Shush! I'm not leaving until yah girl knows yah freaky ass is just after her money.” “You don’t know what you are saying.” “Aye, maybe yah pedophilic brain would get it when I tell her you slept Fatima,” Amanda said and beckoned on Nora for them to leave. “Oh my God! Please put down your voice,” Judas groaned. "What exactly do you want from me?" "Now yah talking, buh I told you what I wanted already...Jemeh’s ward.” “Okay!" Judas said, scratching his head. “Good!" said Amanda, "Tomorrow, ten o’clock in the morning at King Luther Specialist Hospital, Ikoyi. Could come pick you up if that's cool by you." After two minutes without a word from Judas. Amanda started, “You won’t talk until I tell her yah an addicted smoker whose lungs is as black as soot?” “Okay, okay, deal! You are such a blackmail! I’ll meet you at the Hospital tomorrow. Freda will be suspicious if she sees you around again.” “Good!” Amanda said, smiling as her eyes clashed with Jemeh’s. Amanda called out to Nora louder this time and in the next few minutes they were out of the house. “I forgot to get an overdue apology from that freak. Nora hummed as she slammed the car door. “Apology, for what?” asked Amanda. “Never mind.” “C’mon, tell me.” “… an apology for always hitting my ass and taking off, back in high school. And now he’s f**king my sister.” “Funny,”Amanda said, and focused on the wheel. Jemeh had been full of surprises; Amanda was stunned to know that he could also read the memory of his host aside possessing the vessel. She turned around and looked at Jemeh as she held tight to the stering wheel. Jemeh wasn’t looking at them, he’d been quiet since they got in the car and had not been paying attention to the their tête-a-tête. Amanda hated to see him that way. “Jem,” she called,“Promise yah not going to posses my body ever.” “Why?” “Don’t ask, just promise.” “I’m sorry I can’t." “Jem!!” “Alright, alright, as long as it's not necessary.” “Hmmm!” Amanda knew Jemeh would posses her sooner or later and would find out her most dreaded secret. She didn’t want her health challenge to be his despair, but she could only hope he wouldn’t have the time for that, in his present complications. Jemeh didn’t ponder on the reason behind her strong protest against him penetrating her. She was right, he'd so much already to deal with...getting to know truly that he wasn't a living being was the most heartbreaking of his life - never had he been so scared. TBC... |

Ann2012:'Jemeh was looking down when he got out of Judas's body' and in haste....It gives a clue that his adventure wasn't a nice one, perhaps didn't end with expected result. |
