Nigerian Rapper CPA @Yung_Cpa Calls On Big Names In The Industry To Sign Upcoming Acts From The East Region

A young Promising Nigerian Rapper Chidi Peters Known for CPA has called on big names in the music industry to come and help sign upcoming acts whose works are great but lacks sponsorship.

Chidi Peters a young musician who graduated from University of Portharcourt following the good deeds of people like Davido, Olamide amidst so many others in recent time has begged the likes of these established musicians to follow suit and bring their own brothers from the south east to the forefront.

According to him People like Flavour, Phyno, Timaya, Tekno, Mr P(Psquare), King Rudy(Psquare), Runtown, Don Jazzy amidst so many others are capable of bringing their own brothers from the region and making them stars but they just refuse to do that with unspecified reasons.

[/quote]STATE OF THE INDUSTRY (THE SOUTH EAST)
To all the stakeholders and established acts from eastern part of Nigeria acting blind to the poor growth rate of contemporary entertainment industry in the South east, Posterity would judge y’all.. To everybody that has contributed their own little quota to see that artists from the east thrive, God bless y’all… To every young entertainer struggling to make headway, God shall raise men and helpers but while we wait, we can synergize to become more visible and relevant. Things may not go swiftly when compared to our counterparts from the west because of the lack of support from our so called industry gatekeepers but with time and strategic synergy, we can break even. Its too bad that at this point and age in the Nigerian Music scene, the posterity of artists who are supposed to hold it down for the south east have been ignored. We have been stuck with the same set of established acts for almost a decade now.. Its been difficult for a new and fresh set to join the trend.
Since the emergence of FLAVOUR, PATORANKING, TEKNO, PHYNO, CHIDIMMA, KCEE, HARRYSONG, RUNTOWN, SPLASH, etc to the spotlight around 2010-2013, it has become difficult for any other set of artists from the east to break through. HUMBLESMITH managed to come through with OSINACHI and ZORO with the OGENE sound(shouts out Kezyklef for that sound) but that has been all there is for 5 years now and counting. Every other person has just been trying in a not so enabling environment to make headway. Not that young artists from the east are not trying or working hard but because the atmosphere on the east-side of the country has just been tough and most times when we reach out to the celebrities from the east for support, our requests meet deaf ears. Its either you’re intimidated with an outrageous fee you can’t afford or you’re totally ignored and you wonder how they have all forgotten that the likes of NIGGA RAW now MR RAW put most of them on when he was at his prime for little or nothing. Almost None of them has followed his footsteps in that regard. ILLBLISS have also done a good job but can do more.. DON JAZZY has been doing a great job helping young artists but baba, try flash torch for the east small.
The Industry took a major tribal turn around 2011/2012.. During this period, the industry experienced serious cultural revolution as indigenous cultures were strongly promoted and this reflected in our music. This turn however metamorphosed into Serious tribalism and it then became a question of Where are you from?. The Yorubas being who they are and we must commend them for this saw this opportunity, grabbed it and promoted their own knowing fully well that nothing propagates and promotes a culture more than music. Our people from the east have been rather nonchalant.
Davido is just 25 or 26 years and is responsible for a whole bunch of artists ranging from the ones signed directly under his imprint, DMW (Mayorkun, Dremo & Perruzzi) and the ones who are basically affiliates. Wizkid, 27 may not have really done major signings but he has always affiliated himself with a bunch of artists who through this affiliation with the starboy are now successful and doing well on their own. From Mr. EAZI, Maleek Berry , LAX etc. He just signed an 11 year old rapper, AHMED.. Olamide is responsible for Lil Kesh, adekunle Gold, Viktor, chinko ekun, temi ovwasa, davolee and now newly signed LYTA and LIMERICK.. REMINISCE took on OLADIPS and SOJAY .. Not to even mention the other Yoruba philanthropists and business moguls who are responsible for a whole lot of Yoruba artists..
N/B: These Yorubas would hardly sign an IGBO artist because it is believed that the east has people who are capable and can comfortably put their young artists on..I haven’t seen any known record label owned by a Yoruba that an Igbo artist is signed to. I personally went through hell trying to get a deal with SHINA PELLER’S AQUILA RECORDS. I was initially given attention but all of a sudden, the attention died a natural death while I kept trying to get an appointment to no avail..
The Yorubas have consistently churned out an army of successful young artists since 2014 till date.. Kiss Daniel, REEKADO BANKS, YCee, KOREDO BELLO, LIL KESH, ADEKUNLE GOLD, SIMI, Mayorkun, Small Doctor, CDQ, FALZ DREMO, DICE AILES, KOKER, PEPENAZI, SEYI SHAY and a host of other successful young artists within just 4years but can the same be said about the east since 2014. HUMBLESMITH, Selebobo and Zoro are the only notable names who can comfortably fall in the same category as the above mentioned Yoruba artists. Begs the question; ” WHAT IS REALLY WRONG?”.. Nowadays a show promoter in the south east or south south would readily contact these young Yoruba artists to headline their shows but this is hardly the case in the West. Our arts are hardly ever invited for shows in western cities apart from Lagos..
The gap is becoming obvious and the scarcity of established arts from the eastern region is no longer a hidden plague. I thereby call on well meaning IBOs and entertainment conscious Easterners and Celebrities alike to come to the rescue of the industry in the east. A lot of young artists already quit. A lot of hits already washed down the drain and wasted. We are one part of the 3 major ethnic groups in NAIJA.. Let’s not end up assuming the status of a minority. We all have a stake in this, Let’s help ourselves…
Help and Support that young rising artist around you. The love will surely spread..
