Good morning and Happy new month to everyone. Please I need some guidance. I am preparing for a master's scholarship opportunity that opens 1st January 2026 and one of the requirements is a Preliminary Review Documentation (VPD) from Uni-assist. I have gone through the Uni-assist page and as a Nigerian I need to submit upload my WAEC or NECO result certification. I just want to verify from people with experience if the online printout result will be okay or do I need to get the original WAEC/NECO result. Plus, any other additional advice for a first-time applicant like me will be well received. Thank you
Yeah, the print out was enough for me, but you also need to include a picture of your waec card clearly showing your details.

Read the official guidelines here: https://www.uni-assist.de/en/tools/info-country-by-country/details-country/country/ng/

Hopefully I don't get banned for posting a link

Anyone knows how someone with appointment on 21 Nov can get an emergency A1 exam done? It is part of the visa interview appointment. Goethe isn't helping and it's important that the appointment is made, this is the 2nd reschedule.
Goethe allows you to schedule an exam date just for yourself, but they charge double of the normal exam fees, email them to arrange it.

You can use it only if it's still valid. If you've previously enrolled, please use it. The most important thing is that it must be an admission that will give you valid student status in Germany. That's why the embassy asks for enrollment letter later on before AM.

Thanks for the update. I don't think the admission is valid anymore because I wasn't allowed to defer the admission. Though I did enrollment online which was acknowledged, but I couldn't pay little fees I was asked to pay because am sure I won't be call for interview before my school resumes.
Hi, so what do you intend to do now? Ask for a rescheduled appointment?

I'm asking because I am in the same shoe, I could not defer my admission and my school can not re-issue an admission letter until May

Then on the second application I entered the alphabet then followed by the numbers.

Just saw this, but undergraduate scholarships are always HARD to find, very few and their requirements are very high as they last for the minimum period of an undergraduate study - four years. Excellent secondary school examination results are essential in order to obtain one.
Bro,

Most scholarships will go even further than WASSCE results, they want the same University Entrance Qualification the applicant used/ plans to use to apply for admission at a German university.

Meaning, 1st year(100 level) university results

If so, what do you say about this post?:
I'm not 100% but I believe the total amount has to be equal to 11k Euros, i.e on a a scholarship of 5k euros, you would need to block 6k to complete it

Do I need to apply for a German visa before applying to the university? How long does it typically take to get my visa approved, and how does the appointment date fit into this process? I appreciate any insights!
Yes, you'll need to apply first for an appointment

I don't know how long it takes for a visa to be approved(After the appointment) but reading the thread so far it seems to be 5 - 6 months

Basically, the appointment date is the day you enter the German embassy to conduct your interview with a Visa Officer, and drop relevant documents, that's when the process really starts.

Hi everyone! I'm new to researching the Japa movement and I'm particularly interested in the Germany Student Route for a BSc. Could someone explain what Category A and Category B mean? Also, do I need to apply for my visa before applying to the university? Thanks!
Yes, you'll need to apply for a visa appointment before getting admission.

The current wait time for a category B appointment is just over 2 years.

You're in Category A if

> You're a PHD student
> You have a scholarship financed by German public funds
> You hold a first class bachelors degree

*Everybody* else is in Category B.

Hello AplphaNugget!

I'm assuming you study in the Netherlands? How is the visa process vs what you've seen here for Germany?

I'm seeing the avg tution there is ≈ 2k euros, are there funding opportunities for students?

Hi, I got admitted into LMU Munich for my Master's and I applied for Visa CAT A, I got my Appointment shcheduled for September 11 and I understand that I will need to submit my original certificates.

The LMU International office request that I send notarised copy of my certificates, please where and how can I get it done. I need directions on this please.

Also, I am yet to get accommodation in Munich, is it a must that I go for my interview with a proof of accommodation?
You can get them notarized at the German embassy itself or at any certified 'notary public'

Here's a trick for sponsorship letter. It's usually difficult to get a date that is close. In this month of August, you might only see dates in November. So, you can help your sponsor to check dates on days he doesn't have to be in the office BTW 8am to 10am, free slots will pop-up for that day. So, he has to be ready to go that day. Goodluck
Oh its possible to check appointment dates from here?

Guten tag! Wie geht's sie?

I've been following this thread since 2019/2020 when I was in Nigeria and first tried to apply for German study Visa. I received my AL on time but hit a snag at the Appointment Date stage.
Then Covid lockdown hit along with endsars and the whole process collapsed for me. January 2021, I decided to go to a different country (and I've been here for the past 3 years). I got a job, started saving towards my BA and other school related expenses.
I began the process of applying for admission again last year. However, because I stupidly used an IELTS result that was o er 2 years old, my application for admission was turned down. So, I wrote another IELTS in April. Got the required score and then reapplied for admission at the same school on the 1st of May. Around the same month, I booked a visa appointment date for 9th of July and began waiting for my Admission Letter.
3rd of June, the school offered me a conditional admission. I began preparations in earnest to secure a blocked account and everything.
Fast forward to last week Tuesday (9th), I went to the German Consulate with all my documents. The VO didn't ask much questions. They just requested for my documents, asked how long my program would be for. How I intended to finance myself one year after exhausting my BA. Then they asked me to scan my fingerprints and pay the Visa fee with the remark that my documents would be forwarded and I'd receive an email letting me know if my application was successful or not. They also told me they had reserved a space on the passport which is where the visa stamp would be placed in case my application was successful. That was it.
The whole process was stress free and seamless.
On Thursday (two days after the interview), I received an Approval Mail telling me to come deposit my passport along with Health insurance within 4 weeks for Visa Stamp.
I am absolutely flummoxed that the whole consulate process could be that fast. To receive an AM for a study visa in the same week as one's appointment is something I've never heard of.
Anyway, that's my story.
I wish everyone here who's pursuing their academic luck all the best. But if I can add a thought, I'd advise you to try and leave Nigeria. This was much easier for me because I wasn't in Nigeria.
Hello, thank you for this(and congrats?!?!?),

I am absolutely flummoxed that the whole consulate process could be that fast. To receive an AM for a study visa in the same week as one's appointment is something I've never heard of.
and

I booked a visa appointment date for 9th of July and began waiting for my Admission Letter.
Just to confirm you're in category A?

Hey guys. I’m really confused now cause I didn’t know German appointment dates takes long until a friend sent me a link of this thread which I went through from the beginning till now. I’ve been admitted to university of Bremen and I’ve paid my semester fees because if I didn’t pay within two weeks, the admission would be given to someone else. I’m planning to apply for the deutchland scholarship so as to use it as a means of moving to category A.
I’m confused and don’t know what to do since appointment date takes so long now.
And what other things can be done to fasten the appointment date if there’s no scholarship cause have paid semester fees.
Anyone admitted to university of Bremen here please can we link up so as to serve as guide please?

Would be needing you guys advice please cause I’m scared. Was thinking I would be able to resume October this year
I think you should *aggressively* pursue the scholarships.
