Euphobia - Fear of hearing good news I bet anyone reading this would be happy to hear good news, from child birth to a new job appointment. But people suffering from this kind of phobia are the opposite, they thrive on hearing bad news, enjoy chaotic environment and will not show happiness when good news is shared around them. Sounds like 'bad belle' people right? This phobia is usually caused because a person heard a good news in the past but was disappointed because it was untrue. Aurophobia - Fear of gold Gold is one of the most sought after treasure in history, people can do almost anything to acquire it because of the enormous wealth it can provide. However there are some people that eill have panic attacks, nausea, shortness of breath and feel very uncomfortable when the see gold talkless of touching it. Not sure any Nigerian will have this phobia o Cathisophobia - Fear of sitting Almost every of our daily task will involve sitting like when we drive, watch movies, work at the office, wash items, wait for another person and so on. Though we it sounds like a small thing, we realize its importance when we stand for hours, sitting makes performing task more comfortable but for some people the reverse is that case. Cathisophobic people avoid sitting at all costs because it makes them feel trapped and controlled. This kind of phobia affects almost of the aspect of daily life and makes simple task seem difficult. Vestiphobia - Fear of clothing Fear of clothing? Really? Cloths are made to provide warmth and beautification. But imagine a person being scared of wearing cloths especially tight ones and turtle necks. People with this phobia usually feel like the cloths might choke them so they prefer being nude. Vestiphobia is triggered by past experiences of riddicule by peers because of cloth worn. Leukophobia - Fear of Colour White Now its is very common to be afraid of colour red because it is associated with danger, but the fear of colour white popularly known as the colour of peace and purity is another kettle of fish. Some people however have fear of this colour, people like this may just hate the colour, or had a bad experience in a place with a white background like on snow, whatever the trigger may be you see them with colorful things and living in colourful houses. Infact some women may be afraid of getting married because of the wearing white bridal clothes. Bro, i guess its time to observe your fiancee... just saying. And finally... Panaphobia - Fear of EverythingPanaphobia is usually a combination of two or more phobias in one person. Panaphobia can be very serious as a person can become afraid of anxiety itself. This kind of phobia tends to increase over time as the person continues to acquire other kinds of phobia through life. Phobia or no phobia learn your fears, that's the sure way to overcome them. And you see grown men holding on to bet slips like their life depends on it. Crazy! |
As I sat at my favorite spot in the cyber cafe I couldn't
help but notice Lekan the cafe operator checking system
display screens cubicle by cubicle. As he got closer,
I could hear some people murmur and look back at him
annoyingly. 'Lekan', I called him 'yes boss' , he replied 'Why you dey check people screen na ehn, can't you see they are not happy about it? I said in our usual pidgin English style. 'Na all this betting boys jare, we no want make them dey do am here. Then it struck me that the owner of the cafe was a devoted Christian and in fact a pastor, which explains why he gave that directive. Lekan's reply also took my mind back to what happened last week when I was at a different Cafe for urgent work because my modem was down at the office. On entering the cafe was that day, it quickly became obvious to me that every one in the cafe was on one betting site or the other. The sound of loud chitchat arrested my attention and looked towards the direction of the sound only to find school boys surrounding one system and arguing loudly about the outcome of a match while they took turns to place a bet. Other customers which includes young teenagers, youth and elderly men where busy with the same thing! Now I am a football fan, Infact I support Manchester United, but rate at which our youth are dependent on the bet earnings is alarming. Should our youth continue to justify the popular saying that the black man is lazy and uncreative? As I think about those school children who are supposed to be doing assignments and checking up information online that can develop their mental ability, I fear for the future of this country. Yes, the economy is bad and there are no jobs, but is sports betting the answer? Think about it! Big Town |
