I just wanna ask people if they ve been treated the same way i was treated in these three african contries:Kenya,Egypt and ethiopia in course of my job.Guys,u need to see the way i was treated, honoured and respected just because i said i m from Nigeria. I couldn't believe it initially but few days later i started carrying myself like Obama. Believe it or not, they looked at me as if Nigeria is , Since i had that experience,i love Nigeria dieeee. |
@Ikennahill. You sound ridiculous and pathetic. if u don't have anything to say,u better sharrrraaaap. when has it become a crime for us to share our experiences? We re just trying to laugh over dis and move on. you re the only one attaching importance to dis topic. ![]() If you claimed that dis topic is silly, what would u say abt other forum where guys re talking about sex or how to procure visa at different embassies. |
I was called for interview with America embassy, when i got there,i was instructed to go to a particular room where i met a lady( The interviewer). We exchanged pleasantries and the first question she asked me was "re u a student here in dis country-Nigeria ? i was really shocked and suprised cos she had all my documents infront of her,she was even holding the aknowlegment letter written from my Uni and i said to her "AS U CAN SEE"(all d documents). She got upset and started talking blah blah blah. The interview was conducted at d end of d day and i left for good.Eventually i got my visa.LoL,when i got to JFK airport, the immigration officer at d entrance asked for my passport which i humbly and gladly released to him but to my suprise again, the lady asked me if i was in America for a visit or work and quickly told her d same thing i told d other lady at their embassy "AS YOU CAN SEE" (my passport with 6 months visa.SHE WAS STARING AT THE VISA PAGE). O boy,she equally got upset saying i was rude for saying that but at d end of d day,she asked me to go after looking at me for a while and since then,i ve stopped using AS YOU CAN SEE ![]() |
The recent gruesome murder of five men of Igbo extraction, in different parts of Borno State by armed bandits suspected to be members of the infamous Boko Haram religious sect is totally condemnable. As we have repeatedly warned in previous editorials, the allusion to ethnic cleansing which has reportedly triggered the protest of their kinsmen in Maiduguri could well have been avoided. And that is especially so, if the Federal Government, which is constitutionally empowered to protect the precious lives of its citizens, as enshrined in Section 14,2(b) had lived up to its primary purpose. We are therefore, appalled that the Goodluck Jonathan-led administration has trailed the faulty footsteps of its predecessors by refusing to act on the sundry white papers that emanated from past, ethno-religious crises, for whatever political consideration best known to it. Such crass abdication of government's matching mandate is brewing a potential ethnic conundrum that it may find too late in the day to contain. For instance, on Christmas eve last year the Boko Haram stormed some churches, including Victory Baptist Church at Dala-Alamderi and shot the resident pastor, Reverend Bulus Marwa(37) to death. Other hapless victims were Christopher Balami, a lecturer at the state-owned polytechnic, Paul Mathew and Philip Luka as well as a tea maker, Yohanna Adamu. The rampaging gun men also set the Church of Christ in Nigeria(COCIN) located at Ruwan Safi on fire after killing a security man. Characteristic of a government mind set that treats the symptoms of endemic diseases while leaving the root causes to spread, security officials soon took over the city of Maiduguri. The residents heaved a sigh of relief as the miscreants beat a retreat. But it was as usual short-lived. The murderous sect re-appeared in mid January this year to unleash more mayhem in Dala-Alamderi with six gunmen on two motorcycles shooting the Deeper Life pastor, Michael Madugu in an attempt to enter a medicine store. More victims included one Obinna and his brother as well as another Igbo man called James who only wanted to enter the store and purchase some drugs. We are however, not surprised at the guts and temerity of the hoodlums to hold the nation to ransom. The reason is not far fetched because we have a country with political leaders that fuel the culture of impunity, preferring to look the other way each time its innocent citizens are slaughtered. On that score, few if any serious-minded Nigerian would blame the Borno State arm of the Igbo Welfare Association(IWA)that has called on its members to close business activities and prepare for mass exodus back home. Speaking at a recent press conference at the NUJ House, Maiduguri the President of IWA in Borno State accused the rampage of the armed gangs as an ethnic-cleansing agenda. We cannot but ask why southern Christians must always be the sacrificial lamb each time ethno-religious problems erupt? From the Maitasine violence of the eighties through several religiously-motivated killings to the despicable response to the Danish cartoonist that denigrated the revered Prophet Mohammed, southerners have not been excluded from the mindless mayhem that attended each hideous act. We are also constrained to ask why it has become so difficult for the inter-religious committees set up to mediate in such crises act as neither pro-active in nature nor prompt in curtailing them from snowballing into life-consuming, bloody spectacles. Now that the Igbos are threatening reprisal attacks government owes it a statutory function not only to douse the tension but to nip quickly it in the bud. We can ill afford another civil war, added to the polity heated up by the antics of power mongers wanting to win the next elections, more by crook than by hook. Relevant Links West Africa Nigeria Conflict Though the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) through its Borno State Chairman, Reverend Yuguda was quoted as canvassing for more prayers we have to insist that the situation on ground goes beyond mere supplication. First, government must be firm and decisive in reining in the monster of unmitigated blood-letting killings in the name of religion or ethnicity. The judicial process of unearthing the masterminds behind the killings must be fast tracked. And all those found culpable should be brought to speedy justice. Yet, as much as the Igbos have been provoked to the point of considering retaliatory action we wish to caution against that. We cannot also allow ourselves to degenerate to enact a rehash of the Rwandan genocide as it transpired between the Hutus and the Tutus. The subsequent ethnic cleansing in Sudan, or the recent orgy of ethnic violence in Cote D'Ivoire must be consigned to the dustbin of history. Besides, government should dust up all the White Papers on related issues and take a more critical look at the steamy contents of the Oputa Panel. We should stop pretending that all is well with us. FG waives visas for nationals of Kenya, Seychelles By Adelani Adepegba Wednesday, 2 Feb 2011 View All (0) Comment(s) Post Comment Send to friend Share The Federal Government has relaxed visa requirements for citizens of Kenya and Seychelles with effect from February 11, 2011 following a directive from President Goodluck Jonathan. Visitors from the two countries will from that date only be required to pay a visa fee of $25 at the point of entry, rather than go through the hassles of visa application at the Nigerian High Commission in Nairobi as was the case currently. But for the nationals of Seychelles, their valid passport admits them directly into Nigeria without any recourse to visa fees. This was the outcome of a meeting between the Minister of Interior, Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho (retd.) and the ministers of foreign affairs and aviation in Abuja on Tuesday. Ihenacho said that as soon as all protocols were completed by the Ministry of Aviation, the Kenyan Airways would be granted permission to new frequencies at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja where it could operate direct flights to and from Kenya to ease logistic problems of travelers who wish to originate and terminate their flights in the Federal Capital Territory. According to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs , Mrs. Salamatu Suleiman, the Federal Government took the decision to reciprocate the diplomatic gesture extended to her by the governments of the two countries which have been in place since May 2009. In his remark, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Kenya and Seychelles, Dr. Chijioke Wigwe, described the policy as a new beginning that would improve the existing relationship between Nigeria and the two countries. “I believe other African nations will take a cue from this relationship and explore such diplomatic options that will bring about unity in the continent,” he said. There u go again Mr Justwise,an unrepentant immigrant. listen and listen good,i m not here to exchange words with u. I m only here to keep my fellow nigerians informed about what i ve seen or heard from people who had fell victims of dis ugly situation. Hmmm, lol,i m not moaning and i pray dat i ll never see any reason to moan, the best i could do 4 this my fellow nigerians who re being locked up with their newly born children is to show some sympathy. Hello my friend,UK is my country as well as Nigeria. I love both countries but that does not stop me from criticising their policies that goes against humanity. I was born here but brought up in Nigeria where people render help to one another without looking back which u can hardly find here.I guess UK system must have changed u to be dis callous and insensitive 2 d plight of ur brothers and sisters. In Nigeria, u don't throw ur parents into care home to be looked after rather u keep them in ur home or their personal home so as to show them love, care and to be looked after, |
@Justwise, Quote from: MRbrownJAY on July 05, 2009, 04:31 AM i dont care about human right this and human right that. if a woman has legal document to enter the UK then everything should be right for her and she wouldnt land in no detention center. now if some women want to use the pregnancy as some ploy to get better treatment to enter illegally then i held her responsible for whatever she gets there and for what she put herself and that newborn baby into. why do these women land in detention center at the first place? do they just wake up and appear there? didnt these women knew that they didnt have the right documentation to enter or live in UK. didnt they know that they were pregnant? do you think its wrong for the UK government to NOT want illegal immigrant to have babies in their already overcrowded country. (the taxpayers are always the ones footing that bill). as a taxpayer, i do not want my hard earn taxes to be "robbed" by people who use the system to get in the country and milk us dry. to each their own. ps as for the claim of forced abortion, this is BS. I totally agree with u, I don't even believe the OP, if u are an illegal immigrant then u are, don't expect UK govt to wecome u with red carpet while taxpayers like me pay for it @justwise,did u actually support dis wicked opinion somewhere on dis nairaland? i was going thru a particular topic and saw dis, helloooo, dis's wicked. u claimed 2 be paying ur tax but i pay mine too. U need to think before saying or writing anything on dis forum. were u born with ur stay, student visa or british passport? You must ve found one way or d other to regularise urself so y did u support wicked point. Listen, for d fact that i ve a british passport does not make me a better person than this people who re being locked up with those innocent children at detention centres. how could u say dat,British government goes around d world preaching d gospel of human right while d same government does contrary to what she preaches. Like wot d poster over there was saying, they re racists nd i strongly agreed wt him. I m gonna cite my case as an e.g. when i came here newly,i tried to secure a job and d moment i brought out d red passport, dis useless people has a way of askin u how u got d british passport indirectly,i guess cos of accent/whatever/black skin until u tell them that u were born here before 1982 and u were taken back home, dis people ll now give u unreal smile as if they re happy wt ur explanation. Finally,i think i must not fail to let u realise that d money spent on immigrants at detention centres is not tax payers money.United Nation pay british government for all her expenses. The government is using their media to feed us with wrong information. |
@justwise,lol,The only source of knowledge is experience.gudnight everybody. |
@justwise,pls,lets join hands together to keep our brothers and sisters informed about what is happening here Europe instead of arguing over what you re not really know much about. If u wanna speak wt people who re victims of this ugly situation,i won't hesistate to give u their numbers so as to confirm what i m saying. You know what,i m not d one in dis situation but i really feel their pains too cos they re my fellow nigerians who deserve better things in life.Do u know most of them didn't plan for dis?I really wish i could do something about it. My friend,u said if someone is caught working illegally without fake papers,he/she ll be taken straight to deportation centre.lol,u re wrong,u must ve submitted one document or d other and when ur working place is busted, the first thing they always ask for is the employee's file where all the photocopies of their submitted document re kept and subsequenttly u re charged to court wt those documents. As far as UK is concerned,i can tell whoever that care to listen that UK is no longer student friendly. You can only work for 10 hours if u re in colleges and 20 hours during academic calendar if u re in Universities except when u re on holiday. Before, students normally invite their husband/wife as dependant(could do full-time job) to live wt them while they re schooling but now everything has changed,ur wife/partner could only come for visit if u re studying below degree program and most of Nigeria students re in colleges cos d University program is too expensive. I think Canada is more preferable dis days cos after your program u could apply for ur permanent residence. My cousin who just finished his master degree here in UK just relocated to Canada wt a good job there now. |
@flawless,thks for throwing more light on this and i guess u live here in Uk. @vicjustice,i can bet my life on dis,Nigerians re locked up in either prison or deportation centres for a long time for only immigration issues under d pretence of unavailability of travelling documents. |
@all,i read about the topic yestday in Vanguard newspapers or guardian. |
@ Vicjustice, honestly,u re just arguing about what u don't know. I told you that i ve met and listen to different nigerian immigrants in deportation centre personally while at work and i equally have two friends who had been in dis situation before. My friend, believe me or not,i ve a friend who spent 6 months in prison for using fake passport to work and subsequently threw into deportation centre after serving his sentence and spent close to two years there before he got bail at immigration tribunal with surety of £5000. The second person spent about 13 to 15 months without any criminal offence. The immigration officers actually came to arrest someone else who happens to be a failed asylum seeker and co-tenants and in course of their duty at the house, they found out that my friend is equally an illegal immigrant .I could even tell them about dis site and see if they could throw more light on dis in order to let u realise that Nigerians re being held for immigration offence only,i said only without any criminal offence for close to two years. Finally,i am only praying that God ll touch the heart of our leaders to take Nigerians out of this predicament. I must confess it's painful seeing Nigeria graduates and professionals working as car washers under dis horrible weather, stand in d toilet all night at club, waiting for customers who come to d toilet to drop one or more coins in their plates. These people don't deserve dis cos they all went to University to read one course or the other so as to better their life. |
Ha, how would i have thought that Turkey is a part of the UK, i honestly thought you were going to write about Turkey, the Nation. @Vicjustice,Must i write about Turkey before u realise my purpose of writing what i ve seen in UK which is relevant to wot nigerians re going thru in Turkey. To be locked up in prison for "2 to 3 years" is definitely not as a result of immigration offence, there are other serious criminal offences involved. My friend, nobody told me abt it,i saw them personally and i equally spoke wt some of them while at work,u need to see their hair, some of them have been there for abt two years but as a result of their refusal to talk to Nigeria Embassy so as to facilitate their travelling documents and when i ask them why they ve refused to speak to Nigeria embassy to enable British govt to deport them, they said cos of the situation back home. Man, what you're saying here doesn't really make sense to me. How could you complain about the Nigerians working in the cold weather, honestly, you seem to be one of a lazy kinds who would cover himself in blankets while the hard-working people are doing their jobs in any weather condition, afterall, you know that Europe doesn't have same weather with Africa. My goodness, you are even talking about a moderate winter temperature of -1 oc, what would you say about people in the North East of Europe where the temperature can drop below -40oc? In that case, you would really expect everyone to stay idle for several months until they begin to beg for bread. Man, to be honest with my opinion, you seem to be a lazy one hence you are encouraging laziness. LOL,suprised at wot u said.i ve been in this country for 7 years and u know wot that means. Nobody can't survive in Europe if u re a lazy type except u re involve in criminal activities which is not my way. I wish i could show u d true picture of wot i m talking about,u could even see on their faces that they re not happy with d situation they found themselves. Laziness has got nothing to do wt dis. u know wot,if dis people re fortunate to have their papers, trust me,they won't spend one more second there. I ve said dis earlier on that i m not here to condemn them but rather to inform my fellow nigerians that things re not rosy here in Europe. I might ve guessed d weather degree wrong or right but my friend we all know when the weather is freaking cold like freezer. I think i must not fail to let u realise that wot i meant up there is d fact that there is no place for them to stay when they re not washing cars.they exposed themselves to that weather all day and do u expect me to say they re hardworking under that horrible condition when i know fully well that most of them didn't prepare for dis when they were coming to Europe. |
PLS,I M NOT HERE TO CONDEMN THE NIGERIANS EITHER IN NIGERIA OR HERE IN EUROPE,I M ONLY WRITING THIS OUT OF PAIN AND FRUSTRATION HONESTLY,OUR HOPES VE BEEN DASHED BY OUR USELESS LEADERS.I SEE MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN DIASPORA EVERYDAY IN PAINS AND MY HEART BLEEDS.GOD,HOW LONG DO LL CONTINUE TO LIVE LIKE SLAVES HERE IN EUROPE.HWV,FEW OF US ARE FORTUNATE TO MAINTAIN NORMAL STANDARD OF LIVING. MY JOB(SECURITY WITH ONE OF THE SECURITY AGENCIES) HERE HAS GIVEN ME OPPOURTUNITY TO SEE A LOT OF MY FELLOW NIGERIANS IN PAINS.IT'S QUITE UNFORTUNATE TO SEE A LOT OF YOUNG NIGERIAN GRADUATES IN BRITISH PRISONS AS WELL AS DEPORTATION CENTRES BEING LOCKED DOWN FOR 2 TO 3 YEARS COS OF ONE IMMIGRATION PROBLEM OR THE OTHER. THE POPULATION OF NIGERIANS IN EITHER PRISONS OR DEPORTATION CENTRE IN UK IS REALLY ALARMING. IF U LIVE AROUND LONDON,I THINK U COULD TESTIFY TO WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SAY HERE,IT'S SO PAINFUL SEEING MY FELLOW NIGERIANS INFRONT OF ASDA STORES WASHING CUSTOMER'S CARS. I M NOT SAYING D JOB IS BAD FOR THEIR SURVIVAL BUT MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS,U NEED TO FEEL THE WEATHER (-1 degree) TO KNOW THAT NOBODY,I MEAN NODODY EVEN ANIMALS DON'T DESERVE TO WORK IN SUCH AN HORRIBLE CONDITION BUT COS OF THEIR BILLS,THE SITUATION THEY FOUND THEMSELVES MUST VE COMPEL THEM TO DO THIS.SOMETIMES,I WISH I M RICH ENOUGH TO BAIL THEM OUT OF THIS HORRIBLE SITUATION. FINALLY,MY FELLOW NIGERIANS,PLS AND PLS,DON'T COME TO EUROPE WITH VISITING VISA WITH INTENTION TO STAY/LIVE HERE.STUDENTS VISA IS OK FOR NOW.GOD BLESS NIGERIA. |
I can prove dis anywhere that u can hardly see any successful Igbo businessman in Nigeria without involved in any criminal activities such as arm robbery, burglary, kidnapping etc I ve observed few of them in my neighbourhood over the years and a lot of things had confirmed my suspicion.can u believe a situation where someone who owns a boutique would disappear just like that and when you ask after such shop owner, the other Igbo guys ll tell u that he has gone back to the village even when they claimed he died in ghastly motor accident, there won't be any report/record of such accident along d motorway where they claimed the accident happened and not only one or two but few of them that had been involved in dis ugly situation. I was oppourtune to work with Nigeria Police Force Headquarter as Auditor but my office was close to CID department for about 6months and what i discovered then really shocked me. In a week, about 10 to 15 armed robbers were always brought in either dead or alive and believe me or not,all of them were always Igbo, big big men wt nice stature nd toned skin in pool of blood. The ones who re alive always confessed to have one shop or the other after thorough investigation as well as severe purnishment. However,(very)few of them are honest in their businesses.you might not accept dis in d public but when you re all by yourself,ur conscience ll be telling u that what that guy wrote right there is nothing but the truth. |
After reading all the above comments,my heart bleeds, |
y all dis argument abt tribes.I don't think we should be doing this in 21st century.I read a story about two neighbours having shops beside each other in jos,one happens to be IBO while d other one was an HAUSA man.On 17th of january, the hausas youth were killing any Ibo around and when this Ibo man looked outside to see what was going on,he was suprised to see his fellow Ibo brothers being killed by this hausa youth. He thought the best thing to do then and only chance was to hide in d next shop which belong to an Hausa man, believe me or not, this Hausa man protect this guy when d youth came around.what a great man! This same thing happen in a Bus coming from either Lagos or suleja to Jos,the Ibo youth gather themselves to avenge the death of their brothers, they blocked a road and when this bus gst there, all the passengers were ask to come down by dis youth and demanded that all muslims should stay aside but what really suprised me was the fact that the Ibos in the bus were asking the Hausas to disguise as christians.what re great men! pls,we should all stop all dis tribal sentiment.this what our leaders did and here we re today paying d price.lets come together to build one Nigeria irrespective o f our tribes.I remember when i was in school in Nigeria back in d days, being the first child,my dad always tell me aboutsome of his tenants who re not paying their rents as at when due,at a point, this ibo guy called Sunday then was unable to pay for his one bed room apartment and after 6months,my father decided to send him packing but before he could send him packing,he ll always call me to tell me about it.Hwv,when he told about what he wanted/intended to do to Sunday,i asked him to imagine if i happens to be d one in Sunday's shoe in d east that what would i ve done,do u know my old man left this guy with his family in that apartment wt assumption that i m d one living there without asking for Kobo but after two years,Sunday has one of d biggest and best pharmacy in d city today, all the children still come around to play wt my old parents whenever they re on vacation.what re life. |
