I mean, it's hardly surprising because tribalism now runs nairaland. Start banning tribalists and the site folds up so I don't really blame Seun. It's just sad to see, that's all.

FOUR Nigerians convicted of a bank heist in Liberia have been deported, following the completion of their 10-year sentence.

Onuegbu Frank Chidozie (40), Francis Ezeji (32), Chukwu Ago (44) and Kingsley Okoro (40) were committed to prison on December 14, 2010, after the court found them guilty of attacking an Ecobank branch in Kakata, Margibi County and stealing valuables and cash worth $207,799.

The four were tried under Section 14.32 and 50.5 of the Penal Law of the Republic of Liberia at the 13th Judicial Circuit Court.

Liberia’s Justice Minister Frank Musa Dean described the quartet as ‘undesirable aliens’ and directed the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) Commissioner-General Robert Budy to deport them.

According to reports, the four were subsequently deported to Nigeria via Air Cote D’Ivoire.

In another development, Sri Lanka is set to deport 44 Nigerians held at the Mirihana Detention Centre on charges of online scams running into millions of rupees, local media have reported.

Citing investigations, the Sri Lankan outlets said the arrested Nigerians “recommenced their criminal activities once again while being at the detention centre.”
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has, therefore, directed the comptroller-general of Immigration and Emigration to utilise state funds to deport the 44 Nigerians.

The comptroller-general of Immigration and Emigration had reportedly informed the president that some 41 million rupees would be spent on the deportation and that the country’s Police Department had agreed to pay 80 per cent of the total amount.

You see the problem of Nigeria and they will label anybody they kill now as unknown gunmen. I don't really support the killing of anyone - whether soldiers or civilians. We need love. I don't know how some people derive pleasure from all these killings. There is no joy in inflicting pains on fellow humans.

A 43-year-old businessman, Obinna Echianu, has committed suicide inside the Kuje Correctional Centre (Kuje Prison) in Abuja.

SaharaReporters gathered that Echianu was in 2020 sentenced to death for killing an Uber driver identified as Edwin Ali in Abuja.

However, his co-defendant, Everly Nnorom was discharged and acquitted.

Echianu was arraigned along with 27-year-old Nnorom, a student, by the police on five counts bordering on armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, and culpable homicide.

The prosecutor, Donatus Abah had told the court that the businessman, from Abia State and Nnorom, from Imo State on December 25, 2016, conspired to commit the offence of armed robbery and culpable homicide, punishable with death.

He said the duo, while armed with a Revolver Pistol and 33 live ammunition (bullets), robbed one Inalegwu Edwin Ali of his Nissan Almera car and one mobile phone at Gosa pedestrian bridge, Airport Road, Abuja.

He said after both of them successfully robbed Ali, Echianu intentionally shot him in the head, causing his death.

A source told SaharaReporters during the weekend that the businessman was so dejected about his conviction that he decided to terminate his life inside the prison.

He also blamed his death on the corrupt prison system in Nigeria.

The source said, “He went into the bathroom in his cell and hanged himself. His lifeless body was discovered dangling from a rope around his neck. It is not clear what triggered this last act.

“However, it raises questions about the condition of the prison system in Nigeria. Why could a person on death row have easy access to a means of hanging himself? Also, what is the state of healthcare in the prisons, especially for inmates with mental health issues?

“It is is now too late for anyone to know what would have been the outcome of his appeal. Death of the accused ends every criminal trial.”
