Telecommunications company, MTN, is seeking an out of court settlement over the N1.04 trillion fine the Federal government through the National Communications Commission, slammed on it last year for failing to deactivate 5.1 billion unregistered phone lines. MTN had initially dragged FG to court over the fine, arguing that it was outrageous. The Federal government had reduced the fine to N780 billion after the company complained. At a resumed hearing of the suit at the Fedral High Court Ikoyi today January 22nd, the lead counsel for MTN, Wole Olanipekun, told the presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, that they have considered to settle out of court with the Federal government. Following the request by MTN, the presiding judge adjourned the case to March 18, 2016 hoping that both parties would have reached an agreement before then. http://www.jetolu.com/2016/01/22/mtn-seeks-out-of-court-settlement-with-fg/

Ghanians should watch their back. The British High Commissioner to Ghana Jon Benjamin is advising Ghanaians not to be complacent but instead by vigilant following the decision by government to house two former Guantanamo Bay prisoners in Ghana. “It takes few people to create carnage and no one should be complacent. We should be very vigilant because it’s a real threat to us all. “This is essentially a bilateral issue between US, and Ghana. Here we are in January, the election here is 7th November, we are already in election season in some sense. What I won’t be doing is allowing anyone to drag us to make party political points on either side,” he told Jay Foley and Jeremie on the LBC Morning show on Live FM. The government of Ghana is in agreement with the U.S. government to enable Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby stay in Ghana for the next two years. http://www.jetolu.com/2016/01/22/guantanamo-bay-prisoners-in-ghana-are-dangerous-british-high-commissioner/

Undoubtedly one the most humble celebrity out there, R. Kelly says text messages have really improved his ability to read after feeling like an ''alien'' when he didn't know which words were which during his younger years. The 49-year-old singer couldn't read when he was younger and still struggles at times nowadays, and while he is grateful to practice with messages on his mobile phone, he prefers to send a voice-text - an audio message composed by the spoken word - than type a note himself. "Since my daughter showed me voice texts on my phone, I've gotten a lot better." He said. ''I'm not an A-student, I'm not even a B-student, but I've gotten a lot better with the reading because of texts. And I can voice-text and say whatever I want to people. And then they text me back and I take my time and I can read through it.'' The 'I Believe I Can Fly' hitmaker - whose real name is Robert Kelly - admits he felt like an ''alien'' when he was younger because of his inability to read, but when he tried to figure out which words were which he would get ''really sleepy''. Speaking to GQ magazine, he added: ''Other kids could read, other kids could write, other kids could spell, they could do math. ''I felt like an alien, I felt like an outcast. I felt like, 'What is going to happen to me?' My mother couldn't answer it. My stepfather wasn't really interested in it one way or another. And my brothers and sisters were so young at the time they wouldn't do nothing but tease me about it. I was the 'dummy': 'How you gon' do this? You can't even read!' ''I would always hear scrambled music, like an orchestra going off that didn't know what they was doing. It was so confusing. It was, like, violin's playing 'I Believe I Can Fly,' the bass is playing 'When a Woman's Fed Up,' the guitar's playing 'Bump N' Grind,' the piano's playing a gospel song. And then I would end up getting really sleepy and tired.'' http://www.jetolu.com/2016/01/22/idonbilivit-text-messages-improve-my-reading-r-kelly/
