RE: FRSC ANAMBRA RECOVERED SUSPECTED STOLEN TRICYCLE IN AWKA.

I have noted with dismay the recent statement concerning the recovery of a TVS King tricycle by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) in Anambra State.

While I appreciate the role of the FRSC in vehicle verification and its contribution to combating vehicle-related crimes, it is necessary to clarify certain aspects of the report in order to prevent misunderstanding and avoid portraying an innocent purchaser as being connected to the alleged theft.

Most importantly, the Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Ikezuе Jeremiah Chinuogu, of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Awka Diocese, Anambra State mentioned in the report should not be interpreted as suggesting that he stole, possessed, or knowingly acquired a stolen vehicle. His involvement was strictly that of a purchaser who acquired the tricycle through a transaction and subsequently cooperated fully when questions arose concerning its previous registration.

It is also important to clarify that the FRSC official who came to the priest's office in connection with the verification was Amobi Obidi, who handled the engagement and verification process.

Furthermore, Nwafor Tochukwu and Nwoye Richard were witnesses to the hire-purchase agreement connected to the tricycle. Their role and the existence of the relevant transaction documents are important facts that should be considered in any account of the matter.

The priest, upon being contacted, did not evade the process or obstruct investigation. Rather, he cooperated with the authorities and presented the person from whom he purchased the tricycle for clarification. The vehicle was subsequently identified by the person claiming ownership, while the matter was referred to the appropriate security authorities for further investigation.

It is therefore important that the public distinguish between being an alleged purchaser of a vehicle later discovered to have a questionable history and being responsible for the theft of that vehicle. These are entirely different matters.

Until the investigation by the appropriate authorities is concluded, it is unfair and potentially damaging to attach criminal insinuations to the identity or reputation of a person whose name appeared in the registration process.

We therefore appeal to the FRSC and media organisations to ensure that subsequent reports reflect the facts surrounding the transaction accurately and responsibly, particularly where no finding has established that the purchaser had knowledge that the vehicle was allegedly stolen.

The focus should remain on establishing how the vehicle changed hands, who was responsible for its alleged disappearance, how the questionable number plate came to be attached to it, and the circumstances surrounding its subsequent sale.

The priest remains willing to cooperate with the relevant authorities as the investigation continues and trusts that the truth will ultimately prevail.

This clarification is issued in the interest of fairness, accuracy and protection of reputations while the investigation is ongoing.

WHEN A PRIEST BUILDS PEOPLE, SHOULD HIS FRUITS ALSO SPEAK?

The Church must always preserve order, discipline and obedience, but the Church is also a mother that knows how to recognise the fruits of a priest's pastoral labour.

Rev. Fr. Joshua Obiekezie MSSCC, popularly known as “Oberenwa Jesu,” has, within his years of pastoral ministry, touched lives through Eucharistic Adoration, education, support for struggling families, free Mass weddings, visits to the sick and care for the vulnerable.

The question is therefore not whether a priest is bigger than the authority of the Church—he is not. The question is whether the fruits of a priest's ministry should form part of the conversation when decisions affecting that ministry are being considered.

A priest who has helped couples receive the Sacrament of Matrimony, assisted students to remain in school, reached out to the sick and vulnerable, and encouraged people towards Eucharistic devotion leaves behind more than programmes; he leaves people who can testify that the Church was present in their lives.

Perhaps, therefore, this is a moment not for confrontation, but for reflection. If the purpose of pastoral ministry is to bring souls closer to Christ, strengthen families and build the people of God, then the lives touched by a priest's ministry should also be allowed to speak.

The faithful do not ask the Church to abandon discipline. They ask only that mercy, pastoral wisdom and the fruits of ministry be considered alongside every other legitimate concern.

Sometimes, before closing a chapter, it is worth looking carefully at the people whose lives were changed while that chapter was being written.

Why Being Truly Understood Feels So Rare Today

A person can have friends, family members, colleagues and hundreds of people around them, yet still feel emotionally alone. The reason is that being surrounded by people is not the same as being genuinely understood.

True understanding requires attention, patience and the willingness to see things from another person’s perspective. Research has also linked quality listening with reduced feelings of loneliness, particularly after someone shares a painful or difficult experience.

People often listen to reply, not to understand
Many conversations have quietly become two people waiting for their turn to speak. While someone is explaining a problem, the other person may already be preparing an answer, thinking about a similar experience, or searching for advice.
Instead of allowing the person to express themselves fully, the listener may respond with, “It happened to me too,” or immediately begin offering solutions.

people frequently listen with the intention of responding rather than understanding. This can make conversations feel more like two separate monologues than a genuine dialogue.

Not every problem needs a solution
Sometimes when someone says, “I am tired,” “I am frustrated,” or “I am going through a lot,” they are not asking you to fix their life.
They may simply want someone to acknowledge what they are feeling.

Real listening can mean allowing someone to finish speaking, asking questions about what happened, acknowledging their emotions and resisting the temptation to immediately give advice. In other words, sometimes people need an emotional witness more than a solution.

Phones are not the only problem
Technology can certainly make it harder to give someone our complete attention, but the problem goes deeper than smartphones.
Stress, personal worries, mental workload and the habit of constantly jumping from one thought to another can all make genuine listening difficult.

Two people can be physically together while neither is truly present in the conversation.

What genuine listening looks like
Good listening is often simple and quiet. It means letting the other person finish without interrupting, asking questions such as “What happened next?”, reflecting their emotions and sometimes simply sitting with them in silence.

The goal is not always to provide the perfect answer. Sometimes, making someone feel heard is the answer.
The real lesson: In a world where everyone wants to be heard, one of the greatest forms of kindness is learning to truly listen.

Thousands Touched, Families Restored, Souls Drawn to God: The Enduring Legacy of Fr. Joshua Obiekezie “Oberenwa Jesu”

By the time a priest leaves a place, what remains is not only the buildings he helped to maintain, but the lives he touched, the families he strengthened and the souls he helped draw closer to God.

Rev. Fr. Joshua Obiekezie MSSCC, popularly known as “Oberenwa Jesu,” a member of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, was ordained to the Catholic priesthood on 8 July 2021 by Bishop Michael Ukpong, then Auxiliary Bishop of Umuahia and now the Catholic Bishop of Umuahia Diocese.

On 20 August 2021, just weeks after his ordination, Fr. Obiekezie began his pastoral assignment as Assistant Parish Priest at St Charles Lwanga Parish, Okpoko, Onitsha.

Between 2021 and 2026, his ministry embraced several responsibilities. He served as Assistant Parish Priest, Principal of St Charles Lwanga Secondary School, Priest in charge of Sacraments, coordinator of Thursday Parish Adoration, and chaplain to several groups within the Church.

Yet beyond these official positions was a deeper mission: to unite people with God.

Through the celebration of the Eucharist, the Sacraments, preaching, Eucharistic Adoration, pastoral visitation, spiritual guidance and his work with different Church groups, Fr. Obiekezie devoted his priesthood to bringing people closer to Christ. Over the years, thousands of faithful encountered his ministry and were encouraged to deepen their relationship with God, return to prayer and remain connected to the Church.

A Priest Who Took the Gospel Beyond the Altar

For Fr. Obiekezie, pastoral ministry was not confined to the sanctuary.

His work reached families, students, the sick, the poor, couples, young people and people facing difficult circumstances.

One of his notable initiatives was the organisation of an annual Free Mass Wedding, held in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.

For couples who desired to receive the Sacrament of Matrimony but struggled with the financial demands associated with wedding ceremonies, the initiative offered more than financial relief. It gave couples an opportunity to publicly commit their lives to one another before God and to strengthen their families within the Catholic faith.

In this way, the initiative became both a social intervention and a spiritual mission.

Bringing Christ to the Sick and Vulnerable

His pastoral concern also extended beyond the parish walls.

Fr. Obiekezie visited orphanages and hospitals, bringing prayers, encouragement and the presence of the Church to people who were often experiencing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

He also helped organise annual palliative support, with donations from Orange Drugs, providing assistance to people and families who needed help.

For him, the Christian message was not merely something to be preached; it was something to be lived.

Investing in the Future

Education became another important expression of his ministry.

Fr. Obiekezie offered scholarships to students and parishioners who could not afford their school fees, helping young people continue their education despite financial difficulties.

He also worked to attract external sponsors and partners to the parish and school, creating opportunities for people outside the immediate parish community to contribute to the development of young lives.

One significant intervention came from Chief Evans Emesim Okwumereze, founder of the Okwumereze Empowerment Foundation, who provided scholarships to 35 students from Okpoko, covering them from first year through final year and including monthly allowances.

For the beneficiaries, such support represents more than financial assistance. It represents hope, opportunity and the possibility of a better future.

A Ministry That Strengthened the Church

Fr. Obiekezie's contribution was not limited to the people immediately around him. His efforts also supported the wider worship and spiritual life of the Church.

During the last Chrism Mass at Iyiowa Region, Archbishop Valerian Okeke blessed and appreciated Fr. Obiekezie for making his sound system, Adoration singers and instrumentalists available free of charge for Church activities.

His support helped create opportunities for people to worship, pray and encounter God through Eucharistic Adoration and other Church activities.

More Than Achievements: A Ministry Measured in Souls

Behind every scholarship is a young person with a future.

Behind every free Mass wedding are families seeking God's blessing.

And above all, it is found in the thousands of people who were encouraged to know God, love Him, return to prayer and remain faithful to the Church.

Fr. Joshua Obiekezie MSSCC may be known by his titles and responsibilities, but to many who encountered his ministry between 2021 and 2026, his legacy is better described by the lives he touched and the souls he helped bring closer to God.

Because at the heart of his ministry was one mission: to unite people to God and, through his priesthood, lead them closer to Jesus Christ.

And perhaps that is the most enduring question his years of service leave behind:

When a priest has spent years building people, strengthening families, educating the young, supporting the vulnerable and leading thousands closer to God, how should such a legacy be remembered?

For those who encountered his ministry, the answer may already be written—not on a plaque or in a document, but in the lives of the people who can testify that Fr. Joshua Obiekezie “Oberenwa Jesu” helped them find their way closer to God.

The revelation came as Fr. Ebube Muonso marked his 15th Priestly Anniversary at the Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, where he reflected on his priestly journey and the humanitarian responsibilities he believes God has entrusted to him.

According to the cleric, he has single-handedly undertaken the financial responsibility for the treatment of the two patients in India, an intervention that forms part of his wider commitment to helping people in desperate need.

But the India medical bills are only one chapter of what has become a growing record of humanitarian service.

Fr. Jeremiah recounted a heartbreaking chapter of his family history. He revealed that his mother suffered a stroke and lost her speech for about eight years before her death. His father later developed the same illness, while his elder brother also became sick and eventually died.

As the family battled these tragedies, some relatives allegedly encouraged them to seek traditional spiritual remedies, insisting that an ancestral idol was responsible for their problems.
However, his father rejected those suggestions and chose to remain steadfast in the Christian faith despite mounting pressure.

The priest described a turning point that came during one of Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma's crusades in Orlu.
His parish priest introduced him to Fr. Ebube Muonso, who prayed fervently for him and assured him with words that would forever remain in his heart.

BY-ELECTION SHAME: ANAMBRA TREASURY TURNED INTO CASH BAZAAR

The Campaign Organization of Dr. George Moghalu and Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro notes with deep concern the boastful and misleading claims made by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo in Nanka after Saturday’s by-election, where he arrogantly declared that Labour Party and its governorship candidate were “defeated” in his polling unit.

Ordinarily, such empty chest-thumping should be ignored. But silence breeds distortion, and Ndi Anambra deserve the truth, plain and clear.

The truth is this: Labour Party had no candidate in the by-election. INEC had already made it clear that Labour Party could not participate in the August 16, 2025 by-elections anywhere in the country not for House of Assembly and not for Senate. How then could Governor Soludo boast of “defeating” Labour Party? Was any Labour Party candidate published by INEC? Did anyone see Labour Party campaign or posters anywhere? Clearly, Soludo’s so-called victory is nothing but a stage-managed comic act designed to deceive the public.

Yet, even without participating in the election, Ndi Anambra still demonstrated overwhelming affection for Labour Party. In several polling units, voters openly demanded to vote for Labour Party despite its exclusion. This speaks louder than Soludo’s propaganda. It shows Labour Party is not just a political party, but the very heartbeat of Ndi Anambra —a people’s movement that cannot be silenced.

What played out on Saturday was not democracy but a bazaar of shame. The entire state watched as Anambra’s treasury was emptied to fund reckless vote buying, with reports of voters receiving up to ₦30,000 each. This rain of cash only proves one thing: APGA and its government have nothing to offer except desperation and deceit.

This by-election has become an eye-opener. A governor who chants “Solution is Here” could not win without sharing money. If indeed Soludo has performed, why did he need to squander billions to “prove” popularity? What credibility lies in a victory that was purchased, not earned?

Even worse, Governor Soludo now celebrates the “defeat” of a widow. Ndi Anambra must ask: what kind of leader spends billions just to humiliate a widow in an election? What kind of victory is this one without conscience?

And the bigger question: where is the security vote of Ndi Anambra? If billions can be released overnight to buy votes, why has Soludo failed to secure lives and property, fix our collapsing roads, revive hospitals, empower our youths with jobs, and restore hope in our communities? Why is there always money for vote buying but never money for governance?

Governor Soludo parades himself as a reformer and economist, but this election has exposed him as a reckless spender, a political trader, and a leader thriving on propaganda rather than performance. This is hypocrisy at its peak.

Let it be clear: Saturday’s by-election was no test of popularity. It was a one-sided drama because Labour Party did not participate. APGA should not deceive itself. November 8, 2025 will tell a different story because Labour Party has a sellable and capable governorship candidate. Ndi Anambra will speak decisively at the ballot box.
