Nigeria stands at a crossroads, and for many citizens, the sense of disappointment is profound. Around the world, immigration rules are tightening, economic opportunities are becoming harder to access, and many Nigerians abroad are facing increasing uncertainty about their future. Yet the greatest concern remains the state of affairs at home. Millions of Nigerians are asking a simple question: how did a country blessed with enormous human and natural resources find itself struggling with insecurity, economic hardship, and declining public confidence? Families live in fear of kidnapping and violent crime. Parents worry about sending their children to school. Businesses struggle under the weight of inflation and a rapidly depreciating currency. The naira's fall from roughly ₦350 to over ₦1,400 against the dollar has dramatically reduced purchasing power and made life more difficult for ordinary people. What frustrates many citizens is the contrast between Nigeria's vast potential and its actual performance. The country possesses immense oil and gas reserves, yet citizens continue to question the effectiveness of public institutions established to manage these resources. Nigerians see examples from other countries where state-owned energy companies have contributed significantly to national development and wonder why similar outcomes have remained elusive at home. Corruption remains a recurring theme in public discussions. Many citizens believe that weak accountability mechanisms have allowed public resources to be diverted while essential services deteriorate. There is a growing demand for stronger institutions, tougher anti-corruption measures, and meaningful consequences for those who abuse public office, regardless of status or political affiliation. The transport sector offers another example of systemic challenges. In many parts of the world, transport terminals are professionally managed and regulated for the benefit of the public. Nigerians often ask why similar standards cannot be achieved at home and why informal systems continue to thrive where effective governance should prevail. Political leaders from all sides face increasing scrutiny. Citizens are demanding results rather than promises. They want safer communities, a stronger economy, reliable infrastructure, quality education, and a government that serves the public interest. The debate should not be about personalities but about performance, accountability, and measurable progress. Many Nigerians also believe that the country's constitutional and governance structures require serious review. Whether one supports greater regional autonomy, restructuring, or other reforms, there is a growing consensus that the status quo is not delivering the outcomes citizens deserve. Any constitutional arrangement must ensure accountability, effective representation, and the equitable distribution of resources. Perhaps the saddest consequence of Nigeria's challenges is the damage to the country's international image. Many honest, hardworking Nigerians have experienced the embarrassment of being stereotyped abroad because of the actions of a criminal minority. Countless professionals, students, academics, and entrepreneurs represent Nigeria with distinction around the world, yet negative perceptions persist because of fraud, corruption, and criminal activity associated with the country's name. Nigeria deserves better. Its people deserve better. The nation possesses the talent, resources, and resilience needed to succeed. What is required is leadership that places national development above personal interests, institutions that punish corruption and reward merit, and a commitment to reforms that restore public trust. Until then, frustration will continue to grow among citizens who know that Nigeria can be far greater than what it is today. |
Okoye is not a match for nwabali. He is a useless goalkeeper |
It should be Tinubu Ole, Seyi makinde Ole. This is the right way.Keep sentiment apart. They should both be held accountable. |
Madam theif. You also want to ganusi national cake |
I am telling you be ready mentally and physically to take a leap. If you can raise 21m in Nigeria without hassle , I am telling you , you have biz abroad. 500K monthly in Naija without any heavy extended family burden is better than most of these countries we run too. You do physical work round the clock, tax is deducted by government, and yet 60 percent of the returns is expended on rent and utilities though you may recover if you can work extra hour but all this gradually take tolls on your health except if you are naturally fine.Outside insecurity Nigeria is very better most especially when you have money to run a monitored investment |
Ebubu6:So money is very easy to make in UK....A guy just left UK after 4 years of heavy work in warehouse. He made 2000 pounds and a lot of credit...Bro, diligently invest your money in Nigeria. Dont sell credit, scout for product with immediate demand, buy from china like your co Igbo brothers. You will ever be happy and if you are a risk averse person put it mutual fund and continue your regular hustle |
bejick:Yes I am with you ......100 percent |
Nice2023:Back to the sender.Truth is bitter.People like you are naija problem.Wealth without hard work |
Nice2023:Initially, I decided to ignore your foolish comment. But you know what people like you that come here to brag and jump to debate without careful reasoning are the most miserable. You painted Nigeria as hell when you have never stayed one day abroad. A man earning 200k is making unreasonable justification for his unreasonable spending. Yet someone like you is jamming hand for him when I am sure you dont have a million in your account. Are people not surviving with 150k salary or less. Yes, we know times are hard but not for to tell us you are spending 1.2m on food stuff and nannies, then your family must have their pots in shoprite . Oga I am happy for those who hustle legally, if your job pays 200kmonthly which translate to 2.4m, and your side hustle pay 57.6m annually. Then quite the job and face the hustle, at least you can double your income to 120 million annually except if the hustle is to steal fund that belong to the government using that same office like people working at Inland revenue. |
ibechris:See this one, your remark made smile. If anyone is a potential candidate of high bp , Oga na you ooo. Me I dey enjoy my life. I am not coming to nairaland to lament ooo. I don't need magic to turn 2.4m gross to 60m per annum and spend 18m on family with batallion nannies and 100 cars oo. Na your problem wey no dey finish oo. All I know is that empty barrel makes the loudest noise, and you don't need to mount a stool for the world to know you are tall. |
ibechris:Oga stop forming.I am not in your class.Do you think I can sit in a office for 200k. They hype yourself. You are making 60m , spending 80m , story for the God. Who asked you question in the first place. You turned yourself to D.A Fagunwa dey tell us story. Your 200k is 2.4m per annum gross, so where is the 60 million coming from. Empty barrel make the loudest noise, I am not here to drag with you. All I know is that if your naration is real, you are living beyond your means. I am not spending 18m annually and my family are living happily including a vacation abroad annually. |
ibechris:It is because you are leaving beyond your means. You have two cars and nanny. If your wife need a nanny, she should contribute part of the money. |
can you use your 6m to buy this |
Mcslize:Keep your nonsense information to yourself man.Mention the name of the company and I will verify it in less than 2mins. The world is a global village and nothing is hidden under sun. Pathological liar |
How many people earn the 500k you mentioned. You should thank your star for earning the salary of a professor in our Universities. At least you have something to save, what of those who are running family on deficit.500k monthly is 6m annually...Rent...400k, raw food for a family of four..250k (2 months)..1,5M annually, transportaion and clothing for a family of four 1m. School fee for two kids annually 400k at 200k each..total..3,3m..................Savings 2.7m....................annually...............you can dedicate 200k to miscellenous like occasional hang out, drugs to keep fit and so.on ...........Once you are not sick, you are living better life than many Nigerians at home, and even many in the so called abroad...................................................This realizable in all south west state except Lagos. NB: If your wife is cooperative like mine, you can save more. |
Mcslize:Change me when I am not gullible , and otondo like those you are fooling.Only you dey work in a specialised cleaning firm that paid 100kusd in canada.I have friends that are manager in firms, warehouses and other jobs across Canada, yet they spit the lies you shared |
Mcslize:Dey play. USD na CAD abi. Na you be otondo, many only travel to Canada to acquire the passport and later travel to countries like Saudi Arabia to make good money as expat. You have never see video of Nigerians living as destitute in Canada. That your cleaning job that is paying 100,000 USD, those one can not do it. You might be fooling people not me with over 15 years traveling experience.Abroad will make you live comfortably like me if you can work , but not rich . You can not even have 150 million naira savings in 20 years in your naija account, except if you are not paying bills, or you choose the dirty path (fraud, gangsterism and drug) |
maternal:This guy is a pathological liar. Show us your G-wagon.Tell me that country where cleaners make 100,000USD annually.100 USD is a very big money in the US, and accomodation is not joke.Stop misleading people with your rubbish.I am sure you have never travel beyond lagos. |
trollx:Did you read what the guy wrote as if 1m is not enough for 4 weeks in Nigeria.Trace the genesis, before you respond. |
maternal:Definition of comfort is relative. Did you put out the same effort and sincerity to your work in Nigeria, like you did in UK |
lagonovo:You began well, but your conclusion drifts far from common sense. While you seem eager to defend the UK, you also appear to take pleasure in ridiculing Nigeria. You rarely acknowledge anything positive about your own country. You constantly highlight what’s wrong with Nigeria, yet you gloss over the UK’s flaws, the same UK where many work endlessly like machines just to survive. Are there not countless Nigerians who started small, legitimately, and now have success stories worth celebrating? Why paint Nigeria as if everyone here lives in misery? The houses, cars, and architectural beauty in cities like Lagos and Abuja can rival and in some cases surpass what you’ll find in London. True, our country faces challenges, but so does the UK. Only an ungrateful person describes his father’s house with disdain while glorifying a place that sees him as inferior and where empathy is scarce. Nigeria will rise again, and when that happens, many who now mock her will realize they were living in modern-day slavery abroad. In the end, if you truly have focus, patience, and intelligence, opportunities anywhere, including Nigeria, should not intimidate you. How many UK citizens are truly wealthy? Their idea of success often differs from ours: owning a flat on mortgage and a car bought on credit, both paid off over decades. If that’s your definition of a good life, then perhaps it’s time to re-evaluate your claims and rethink the narrative you’re pushing. |
Omoapena:How many people earn 1m in Nigeria, 85 percent of Nigerians earn less than 150k and they are surviving .It is just because you choose to be lavish and extravagant. Reason you are struggling with good savings. Do you think it easy to save 1m with food delivery job in europe, warehouse job in UK and under the table job in the USA.It is better in US if you study ,which is not a joke without finance. I pitied those taking little kids abroad, grade A foolishness, na them go feel am much. You will learn the hardway at old age that Oyinbo never believed in communal way of living. When your children will abandon you and dress half naked, smoke everything as a result of peer influence and friends from school with zero control over it.If you have nothing working for you in Nigeria, Japa is good and ensure your kids are above 16years before they japa with you. Me oo, immediately I have a financial structure that guarantee 500k monthly and very secure.I will pack my bag and leave this UK. You can test me, just provide the offer. |
lagonovo:How many Nigerian foreigners are doing good job abroad particularly UK.It is strictly care and warehouse job (12hrs shift) with very minimum amount to save after bills. Finally, some of these 12 hrs hard job will send you to early grave where you will contend with stroke in your old age. How many british citizen are doing the rubbish with you. |
fxexperts:Can you use 800 usd to fix side mirror like people in texas |
tensazangetsu20:If you can not relate, then stop the hyping. How much is your net salary because your 5K USD can easily mislead people. You provided a pheripheral information without being detailed. You need to tell us your net salary and also share your expenses particularly rent for a wooden sofa apartment. If anyone save 500k monthly in Naija and you have a job security, coming abroad is thrash. Abroad is over hyped. Can you fix side mirror with 800USD in texas. |
afesco:Corruption is everywhere. Infact the card the play abroad is brutal than Naija. You need to go and explore, only that many of you blabbing here will not come back to tell us your story. |
