Count one of his charges reads, “That you, Nuhu Ibrahim Shuaibu (a.k.a Ishaku Abdulrazak) (M) and lIya Garba (now deceased) sometime in 2017 in Kaduna within the judicial division of this honourable court did conspire between yourselves to do an illegal act, to wit: obtaining money under false pretence and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 8(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.”

Crime / Man Allegedly Stabs Lawyer For Assisting Wife File Divorce Suit Against Him by BadNews: 6:21pm On Jul 18
Man allegedly stabs lawyer for assisting wife file divorce suit against him in Ondo

A 40-Year-Old Lawyer, Abayomi Oladire, was stabbed by his client’s husband while performing his legal duty in the Ondo West Local Government Area of the State.

According to the state-owned newspaper, The Hope, the suspect identified as Kunle Kuteyi, used a broken bottle to stab the lawyer for allegedly helping his wife to prepare a divorce suit against him.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 4 pm, July 14, 2024, in Ondo City.

It was gathered that the lawyer was on his way to his sister’s baby naming ceremony when the suspect stopped him and accused him of having an affair with his wife to the extent of helping her file for divorce against him.

The discussion had barely lasted thirty minutes when an argument broke out between Oladire and the suspect.

The argument later escalated into the suspect stabbing the victim with a broken bottle.

It was learnt that the victim was stabbed viciously all over his body and was rescued by sympathizers in the area, who took him to the nearest hospital for treatment, while the suspect fled.

A resident in the area, who pleaded anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident, said the attack on the victim left him bleeding before he was rushed to the hospital.

“We saw the two standing together, and later the suspect hugged the victim and pushed him away. The next thing we saw was the suspect bringing out a broken bottle and started stabbing the victim,” the source said.

Speaking to the publication, the lawyer Oladire explained his side of the story.

“The wife of the suspect brought a judgment to me and said her husband was ordered to pay N2 million by the court to a complainant in a case instituted against them,” he said.

“On checking the judgment, I saw that both the husband and wife were asked to pay N2 million each, and I explained this to her.

“She went to the complainant’s lawyer and paid the said amount. Then, she later asked me to prepare divorce papers because her husband had lied to her about the case.

“I prepared the divorce papers, but she later came back to me, saying she was no longer interested because her husband’s family had begged her to forgive him.

“I told her that I would inform the judge on the next adjournment date. On the day of the incident, I was going to my sister’s baby naming ceremony when I saw the suspect. He said he had been looking for me because I prepared divorce papers for his wife.

“He accused me of dating her and of preparing a divorce letter for her. But I explained to him that his wife had told me she was no longer interested in the divorce and that we were going to withdraw the case on the next adjournment date.

“The suspect hugged me and bit me on my jaw, then brought out a broken bottle and started stabbing me. All I could do was guard myself to prevent him from stabbing me in my neck or other dangerous parts of my body.

“In the course of performing my legal duty, by preparing a divorce for his wife, the suspect attempted to kill me by stabbing me viciously. He is walking freely in the town, and all the police stations in Ondo can’t arrest him,” the victim explained.

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the brutal murder of a woman, Alberta Armah Hagan and her two daughters in their apartment at Net Link Estate in Kasoa, in the Central Region, Ghana.

The Suspect, who is reportedly the deceased’s boyfriend, is believed to have committed the heinous crime over a dispute involving mobile money transfers.

Madam Alberta allegedly lodged a complaint with the police recently, accusing her boyfriend of illicitly transferring GH¢20,000 sent by her ex-husband in the US for their daughters.

Investigators believe that in a bid to avoid facing the consequences of this report, the suspect chose to kill Alberta and her daughters.

Madam Alberta and her daughters were discovered dead with multiple stab wounds this week.

The gruesome attack also left two of Alberta’s other children, aged 9 months and 6 years, with severe injuries.

The 6-year-old boy is currently in critical condition under police protection in the hospital, while the 9-month-old infant is also receiving medical care.

The Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, working to uncover the full extent of the crime and any additional motives behind the attack.

Crime / Armed Men Abduct Final Year UNN Student by BadNews: 4:40am On Apr 22
Fear has gripped many over the disappearance of John Udochukwu Elekwachi, a final-year student of Combined Social Sciences at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Elekwachi, a campus blogger, was picked up by some yet-to-be-identified armed men last Monday at his lodge in the middle of the night. This is coming a few days after he completed his final year examination.

Elekwachi’s elder sister, Uchendu, who spoke with PUNCH Metro on the telephone on Sunday, said she got a distress call that her brother was taken away by some men. She expressed concern about the incident noting that the family had not received any update regarding the victim’s whereabouts.

Uchendu said, “I was in Port Harcourt on Tuesday when they called me. The landlady said some unknown men came to my brother’s lodge with four Hilux and one Jeep by 3 a.m., and took him away on Monday. Since then, we have not heard from him, and those people have not called since then.

“I have gone to report in various places. We went to the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department, the Department of Security Services, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to make complaints, but they said he was not there. I have not been myself since then.”

The incident was also confirmed in a statement released on Sunday by the Executive Council of the combined Social Sciences Students Association (Comssa), UNN chapter, co-signed by the President, Okonkwo Richard, and the General Secretary, Obolo Mmesoma.

The statement partly reads,” It is with concern that we announce that our classmate, Elekwachi John U (John El), has been reported missing. He was last seen on April 15, 2024, at his lodge in the Green House.

“An eyewitness gave an alleged account of John being taken away by armed men who arrived with four Hilux trucks, but the name of the agency was not disclosed.

“We are working closely with the authorities and John’s family to ensure his safe return. If anyone has any information regarding his whereabouts, please, contact UNN security or any federal agency immediately.”

When our correspondent contacted the spokesperson for the Enugu Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, on Sunday, he did not respond to his calls or reply to the text messages sent to his telephone number as of the time of filing this report.
