An Akwa-Ibom-based pastor, Nsikanabasi Ese, has knocked down a Customs officer on Thursday, May 4, while trying to evade duties check. Premium Times reports that the general overseer of Kairos Rhema Embassy, Uyo, was driving in an SUV along Eket-Ikot Abasi-Port Harcourt highway, in Onna local government area of the state, when he was reportedly flagged down by Customs officers at a checkpoint around 10.30 a.m. “He (the pastor) slowed down the vehicle, so we naturally thought he was pulling over. At the point that we were relaxed, he fired back the engine at full throttle, and before I could dive to safety he had already hit me, ” the injured officer, Daneke Emmanuel, told journalists at Immanuel Hospital, Eket, where he was receiving medical attention. The pastor, Mr. Ese, was said to have sped off after hitting the officer. But when he saw that a Customs vehicle had started following him, he pulled over his brown colour Toyota Highlander. "He flung open the car door, walked away from the car and then suddenly slumped on the ground as though he was in great pains. As we were about to find out what was wrong with him, another occupant of the car jumped onto the steering and ran away with the car,” another witness said. The Customs team drove both its injured officer and the pastor to the hospital. The injured officer, a deputy superintendent of customs, was complaining of pains in his waist region when journalists met him. He could not move his right leg and was assisted to sit on a hospital chair by two other Customs officials. When the condition of the pastor was asked, Dr. Okonjko smiled and then responded: "I have directed that x-ray should be done on him here in the hospital since he is complaining of chest pain”. The pastor declined to comment on the incident when journalists met him in one of the wards in the hospital. An unidentified young lady was with him. One of the customs officials said that they suspected that the pastor was pretending to be in pains to forestall the possibility of him being charged to court. Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan and her hotel Controversy has trailed the clash that broke out between a team of Federal Inland Revenue Service and the management of Aridolf Resort Wellness and Spa, believed to be owned by the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan , Patience, on Wednesday. The resort is located in the Okaka community of Yenagoa . While the FIRS ’ enforcement team claimed it was attacked by suspected militants lodging in the hotel , the Aridolf management said the FIRS team was confronted by hotel customers who were annoyed by the manner the team was carrying out its operations . It was learnt that the FIRS team, led by Mr Chinazor Edeh , had arrived at the hotel with a warrant signed by the Chairman , FIRS , Mr Babatunde Fowler, to seal off the facility for an alleged non- remittance of Value Added Tax to the tune of over N 10m , covering a period of 2014 and 2016 . It was gathered that when the team arrived at the hotel , Edeh read the content of the warrant to the facility’ s officials even as he informed lodgers and customers about the intention to seal the facility. An eyewitness , who accompanied the FIRS team to the operation, said, “ Some militants in the hotel took over the whole place . They threatened to shoot every member of the FIRS team, claiming that the enforcement was illegal . “‘When one of the directors of the hotel , Mr . Victor Oba , arrived at the scene , Edeh also briefed him of the action . “ Oba told the team that the hotel owes only three - months VAT and that the employees of the hotel have not been paid for a number of months because of payment errors . ” Giving further insight into the matter , the source said that when the FIRS team got to the hotel and demanded to see any senior official , the receptionist claimed that no senior official was around. He said , “ The receptionist insisted that no senior person was there and that she was the only one in the hotel . The next thing the lady did was to run away. After some minutes, the team leader went to the gym and asked people there to leave the place . When they came out, he locked the place and placed a seal indicating that the place was sealed off . “ By the time we came to the reception, we never knew that the receptionist had alerted people . The team wanted to go inside to ascertain if people were there . What happened next was a group of youths came. One of them met the team leader to enquire what the matter was . ” But Oba , a younger brother to Patience , faulted the claim of the FIRS team, saying there was no attack on the FIRS team. Oba, who said Aridolf did not habour militants , claimed that it was the FIRS team that came and attacked the guests and lodgers of the hotel . He stated, “ There was no attack on FIRS team. Rather, it was the team that came and attacked our customers. I was out of the hotel . I got a call that people were there to shut down the hotel . They held our receptionist hostage , went into the gym, used armed men to push people out of the gym, locked up the gym, went into the hotel and started knocking at doors that guests should come out. Some were in the bathrooms . ” Commenting, the police commissioner, Amba , dismissed the allegations that the FIRS team was attacked by militants . He said, “ Thank God I was there personally , so, you are hearing from the horse ’ s mouth . It was a little breach of communication and procedures. “ The FIRS team came in to recover what they called VAT payment and when they came, the management staff were not around but some sympathisers and those that believed there was a political colouration to the FIRS visitation blocked the road . ” Meanwhile, the Federal Inland Revenue Service on Thursday sealed the headquarters of Alliance and General Insurance Company in Lagos, as well as Delta Transport Service and Grand Hotels in Asaba , Delta State . Alliance and General Insurance , which has its headquarters on Abibu Oki Street, Lagos, was sealed by the FIRS enforcement team over its Company Income Tax debt of N 2, 413, 055 , 386. 69. The team also shut MYD Telecoms Company Limited in Onikan, Lagos, which allegedly owed N 26, 247 , 856. 50; as well as Brick and Cable Limited , Lagos Island, for allegedly having Value Added Tax and Company Income Tax liabilities of N 155 ,460 , 310. 22. In Asaba , the capital of Delta State, the FIRS team sealed the offices of the Delta Transport Service Limited and Grand Hotels Limited . The leader of the enforcement team, Mrs . Ruth Mandeun , said the companies ignored notices sent to them and failed to take advantage of the one- month window offered by the FIRS for them to pay uo . Delta Transport Service, according to the FIRS , owes N 243, 146 ,108 , while Grand Hotels has liabilities of N 14, 402 ,762 . 75 . In Owerri , Imo State, the FIRS shut Macol Construction Company Limited over a tax debt of N 2, 938 ,069 . 37; First Eye Resources Nigeria Limited , which allegedly owes N 6, 844 ,099 . 46 ; and Boko Nigeria Limited , said to be indebted to the tune of N 250 , 000. Mavin singer, Reekado Banks , is undoubtedly one of the good artistes Nigeria can boast, a thing we are certain he knows. Speaking with Sunday Scoop, the Ladies And Gentlemen crooner, opened up on how his family handled his decision to go into music fully, is Mavin family and of course competition amongst them all. On his parents being told about his decision to pursue music, Reekado said: “My parents have always been supportive and they want the best for their children. When I initially told my mother about my intention, she had no problem with it. She then told my dad and he was okay with it too but said he wanted to be sure that I wouldn’t leave Jesus Christ.” On gaining fame and its effect: “I am still the same person I used to be. I do every other thing I want but I no longer have the liberty of walking on the street or going to some certain places I would have loved to go. I have always been the indoor type and even when I was in the University of Lagos, I never went to clubs or things like that.” On the Mavin family: “The only thing I can say we have among us is healthy competition. We encourage ourselves to do well and we’re one big happy family. We give ourselves good pressure, like when one person releases a good song, the others are motivated to do the same, or even do better. We also advise ourselves on how to do better and we constantly look out for one another’s progress.” Source : https://naijacrooks.com/2017/04/competition-amongst-mavin-artistes-reekado-banks-voice/

Rapper Yung6ix , may need little or no introduction in and out of the music business. The talented act, who spoke with Sunday Scoop, talked about his main aim of doing business and his plans towards it. In his words: “My ambition is to become a billionaire and I am consciously working towards that. That is why I titled my last EP, Billionaire Ambitions. I have my eyes set on being a music mogul so that I can empower other young artistes out there. Even now, I try to do that as I regularly give out cash on my social media platforms because I love helping people.” On feeling threatened by rappers like Olamide and Phyno , Yung6ix said, “I have a very good relationship with Olamide and Phyno and I don’t feel threatened by any of them. I believe that the sky is wide enough for every bird to fly and I am thankful that I have my own market and fans who love me. My music is being recognised globally and my unique Nigerian style of music has made me one of the biggest hip hop brands in the industry today. Even though there is a bit of western influence in my songs but it’s also obvious that I’m a Nigerian and I always stay true to my roots. ” On making music: “I make music mentally. I don’t write songs as I find that to be stressful. I prefer to freestyle and from that I get to develop the song and make it better after some takes. True music comes from the soul and I try to stay as pure as possible.” Source : https://naijacrooks.com/2017/04/dont-feel-threatened-olamide-phyno-yung6ix/

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said it had so far registered 1.5 million candidates for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across the country. The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this in an interview with the newsmen on Saturday at side line of activities marking the pre-JAMB mock examinations. It will be recalled that the JAMB mock examinations earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday May 8 had been postponed to ensure smooth conduct of the exam. Oloyede said: “So far, it has even been better than our expectation, it was a mock, the intention was to test the technology and it proved to be perfect. “I think from what we are seeing, we are more than ready for the main examination. “At least 90 per cent of the examination centres have reported positively, there have been proper downloading and preparation; even after the exam we had uploaded responses of 80 per cent. “We have done it to show that what works elsewhere across the world should work in Nigeria; we believe we can do it efficiently; we will continue to do our best. “We have registered over 1.5million candidates in less than five weeks; we believe that the reality we have put in place is good enough.’’ Oloyede said that 633 centres were used to conduct the mock examination for 153, 000 candidates across the country. In separate interviews, some of examination centre coordinators and candidates lauded JAMB for the mock initiative geared towards equipping the candidates to do better in the main exam. Mr Abdul-Aziz Olasoyinka, Technical Research Officer of Digital Bridge Institute, commended JAMB for the mock examination. He said it was apt in terms of preparation for future exams. Olasoyinka said: “Mock is a good experience because it will help the candidates to adequately prepare for the forthcoming examination. “It helps to evaluate how well the candidates have prepared and to improve themselves ahead of time.” Mr Olajide Adisa, Director of Outstations at JAMB, said although there were 230 capacities at the Computer Based Test (CBT) centre, plans were on to upgrade to 250 them before the main exam. “Even with that our specification is that at least we should have 10 per cent of same capacity as back- up in case of any breakdown. “We have already put measures in place to test them in the course of the mock examination, they will be ready before the main examination,” Adisa said. A candidate, Miss Hadiza Abdullahi, told NAN that the mock examination had improved her level of confidence ahead of the main exam. She described the examination as encouraging, adding that she expects to sit for the main examination well-equipped. Abdullahi, however appealed to the board to put measures in place to enable candidates wanting to register for future exam to do so with ease. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the mock examination held in three sessions, including the JAMB headquarter and CBT centre in Kogo community. According to Wale, “Shine” is dropping this Friday or so he hopes. On Wednesday night, Wale caught up with Genius for a break down analysis of his forthcoming album Shine, which is supposed to be dropping May 5th. During his sit-down with Rob Markman, the MMG rapper discussed the tracklist, talked about stories behind the songs and even revealed a couple producers in the process, including Don Cannon (“Colombia Heights”) & No Credit (“Mathematics”). However, what people are talking about the most from the event is the album’s new release date, which will now reportedly be this Friday, April 28th instead. “Ima put my album out on Friday yo” Wale says on the mic. However, following the event, Wale might’ve spoke too early & took to Instagram to try and get Atlantic on the same boat (which he has since deleted). In addition to that though, people are also talking about the new song Wale debuted with DJ Sam Sneak called “Shine Season,” which finds Wale referencing conservative political commentator Tomi Lauren once again. “Tomi I Lahren, I aint ready for you/All the Beckys want an Uncle Tom Sawyer/Race draft first pick/John Lennon for Don Lemon,” he rapped. Check out both a teaser of the record “Shine Season” & his release date announcement (below). We’ll keep you posted on further updates regarding’s Friday’s release. Let’s hope it sticks. African China recently released a new music video for his single “Aun Gboko” hence we decided to highlight what is arguably his signature song on this edition of #ThrowBack . Mr. President was a conscious song that rocked the four cardinal points of Nigeria to say the least and made African China an household name. The infectious call and response chorus of the number addressing corruption in the nation; “Mr. President/Lead us well/ If you be governor/ Govern us well/If you be senator/Senate am well/If you be police/Police am well/No dey take bribe…” is the highlight timeless piece. Singer African China, in an interview with Sunday Scoop, talked about his music and the price he pays for doing his kind of songs. According to the LETTER TO MR PRESIDENT crooner, he now gets threats for singing about the sad economic state of the nation. “The circumstance of the country now warrants for a song like that. The economic recession is affecting people in the country badly and some generations that are not aware of the value of the original song can learn from this remix. A lot of people have reached out to me that this is the best time for me to have released that song. I want the original song to remain on its own and for this one to stand out too. I have always been doing socially conscious songs and I wouldn’t relent. My song, Anu Gboko, talks about the menace of Boko Haram and other societal ills. I have always been the mouthpiece of the Nigerian people and no matter how much I’m threatened, I wouldn’t stop. It is better for me to speak my mind and die because even if I don’t speak, I would still die,” he said. “Some people telephone me to say that they are coming after me. Most times, they hide their numbers when calling and I dare them to reveal their numbers. Since they are the ones threatening me, they shouldn’t be afraid to show their faces. I’m a street boy and I fear no man. I did not call anybody’s name in the song but I guess some people feel affected by the lyrics of the song as a result of their guilty conscience.” He continued: “I have experienced that on a number of occasions but it cannot stop me. Even some artistes are scared of singing songs like that because they need the money and they fear that their patronage would reduce. I am not doing this for the money but for the people I’m serving. That is what Fela did and that’s why even in death, he stands out. There are many musicians that were around during Fela’s era but they are not remembered today, so if you don’t leave a legacy behind, you would be forgotten easily,” he said. Singer Skales, has made it known that he has never been under pressure from Wizkid and unlike many think, can actually create an even bigger brand with his talent. Speaking with Sunday Scoop, the Temper crooner opened up about his time at EME record, ex-home to singer Wizkid, saying contrary to what many thought, he was never pressurized by Wizkid. In his words: “I have never been under pressure from Wizkid. I have always been a singer even though I became more popular as a rapper. When I was in Kaduna, I wrote songs but rap was the in- thing back then, so that’s what I concentrated on more. I believe that artistes have their individual styles and it’s not necessary to compare one artiste with another. I had a wonderful time with EME and they contributed so much to my career. But I’ve moved on and I’m grateful to God that I’m doing well in my career.” On what drives him to keep on making music: “I have a very deep passion for what I do. Anyone who knows me would tell you that I’m very particular about my music and nothing is more important than that to me. I am not in it just for the money but to make an impact and also touch lives along the way.” https://naijacrooks.com/2017/04/skales-not-pressurized-wizkid/
