How exactly does an unarmed man intimidate a President who is commander in chief of the armed forces comprised of thousands of armed soldiers?

That's not for Kanu, you or I to decide but a judge. The state has made its accusation that needs to be proven in a court of law. Kanu has a more serious problem on his hands as he has jumped bail

Black brains every were , you hate igbo's want them to leave your Lagos State , yet afraid of them to go
Can't you read? Did Kanu not attempt to intimidate the president into dismemberment of the Nigerian state? As for his guilt or innocence, its up to a judge to decide. Simple

I asked you a simple question, what section

Treason

(1) Whoever levies war against the State, in order to intimidate or overawe the President, commits treason.

(2) Nothing in this section shall prevent any act from being treason which is so by the law of England as in force in Nigeria.

*The numbering is consecutive with that of the Penal Code of the Northern State.

Punishment for treason

Whoever commits treason shall be punished with death, and whoever attempts or abets treason shall be punished with imprisonment for life or for any less term or with fine or with both.

Treasonable crimes
(1) Whoever intends-

(a) To remove otherwise than by constitutional means during his term or office-

(i) The President of the Federal Republic; or

(ii) The Governor of any State of the Federal Republic;

(b) to levy war against Nigeria or any part of the Federation in order by force or constraint to compel the President or the Governor of a State as the case may be, to change his measures or counsels, or in order to put any force or constraint upon or to intimidate or overawe either House of the National Assembly or, as the case may be, the House of Assembly of a State; or

(c) to instigate any person not a national of Nigeria to make an armed invasion on Nigeria or any part thereof, and manifests such intention by an overt act, shall be punished with imprisonment for life or any less term and shall also be liable to fine.

Agreed. How on earth would a party consider scheming the south east out of National positions? It is ludicrous and preposterous! It tells alot that the majority of the party's stakeholders are tribalist. APC, might be the majority, yes, but those positions are not APC party leadership positions, they are national positions. Since 1999, no zone was schemed out of national positions by the PDP leadership, despite the voting pattern. This changed in 2015. Scheming out the Igbos, a major ethnic group from the national equation, is the first deliberate grand mistake this Administration is making. It would not end well!

Modified!

What do you mean by putting all eggs in the basket? You guys annoyingly thoughtlessly say it. Do you mean there are no APC senator elects or House member elects from the south east? If there are non, it is simply a non issue. When you want to elect Chairman of Governors forum, then you can talk of all eggs in basket, but for now, how many senators do you want so that it will not be all eggs in Basket? How many rep members do you want so that it will not be all eggs in basket? What basket are those APC senators and Rep members from the south east contained?
Relax, we will dash you the DSP or deputy speaker position

No, they do not. APC is despised in East and even its Leadership is openly detested and cursed on internet. SE is hostile to APC and You don't reward hostility with honor.

The two people they claim are qualified are not truly qualified. They are both defectors. Kalu has a EFCC case hanging on his neck, plus he was the worst Abia Governor on record. You don't put national leadership in the hands of someone who governed a state recklessly.
APC has some very hardcore fanatical supporters in the SE. Forget all these Internet trolls who've got no PVC , millions of votes came through for the APC from that region in the last general elections

The guy spoke some sense here. The Ibos do deserve a slot on the national assembly leadership as a reward for the role some of their APC leaders played in the relative success the party had in the region. I suggest the DSP position be zoned to one of their ranking senators or at leat the deputy speaker in the lower house but not the SP or speaker slot

By Emeh James Anyalekwa

“Men make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past.” — Marx

While we are still at loss as to why the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) chose to zone the position of the Senate President of the incoming ninth Assembly to the North, we are even more surprised with their recent outburst and hate towards the South-East region. One may wonder if this is how the ruling party plans to “unite the country” (as promised) by playing sectional politics of hate towards a particular region.

I can remember in 2015 when Mr Femi Adesina declared that the reason why the party did not zone the Senate President to the South-East is because there was no APC Senator-elect from the region. Fast forward to 2019, the APC has produced ranking Senators from the region with former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu dominating the list. Yes, Dr. Kalu is a ranking Senator having served in the Federal House of Representatives - both chambers are known as NASS and recognized in ranking legislators.

Now, the same APC is giving another “reason” that the South-East did not vote Buhari. Like seriously? In Abia North for instance, the president won the entire five local governments, while the ruling party also won 2 out of the 3 Reps seat and the Senate seat from the district. Generally, Buhari garnered over 80,000 votes as against the 15,000 votes in 2015.

If really the APC leadership know fully well that the election of National Assembly leaders are done via secret ballot system, then one may wonder why they continue to remain unguarded and reckless with their utterances, while imposing unpopular candidates on supposed distinguished legislators.

Inasmuch as I believe in party supremacy, I strongly believe that at the Senate level and National Assembly generally, persuasion and not coercion should come to play in actualizing the party's objectives.

As it stands now, a lot is at stake in the struggle for the various National Assembly positions. 2023 is fast approaching and president Buhari is constitutionally not qualified to run, hence, several political forces are warming up to take over either directly or indirectly through their trusted loyalists; and who controls the National Assembly is key in positioning the various camps ahead of 2023.

Within the APC, there are several powerful camps interested in 2023 and none would allow the National Assembly to fall easily into the hands of the other. If ex-President Obasanjo could not coerce the NASS to do his bidding ahead of 2007, Bola Tinubu and Oshiomhole will be wallowing in self deception to think they can sit in their living rooms and impose leaders on the National Assembly.

It's on record that Bola Tinubu single-handedly appointed Buhari's Vice, Yemi Osinbajo and the party's National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole in the helm of affairs. To think that Buhari will sit and watch a domineering and overtly ambitious Tinubu to also single-handedly appoint the Senate President in the person of his known-loyalist, Ahmed Lawan and Speaker, Femi Gbajiabiamila, will portray the president as the most daft head of state in the whole world.

What happens (to Buhari) in the event of a strong disagreement with Tinubu? Your guess is as good as mine. Before it's too late, APC leadership should retrace their steps and apply caution.

All regions and stakeholders should be carried along in the party's zoning arrangement. Man by its nature abhores injustice. An arrangement that favours one region ahead of others should be jettissoned.

Nigeria is built on a tripod — Igbo, Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba are the major ethnic groups. Any arrangement that relegates any of the three to the background will be vehemently resisted.

The Hausa/Fulani have the number one position, Yoruba have number two, by all fair standard, Igbo or any of the minorities should have number three. However, since one of the minority ethnic groups have the party’s Chairman, Igbo should be given the number three position.

In the light of this reality, from the foregoing, the body language of the APC that the South-East doesn’t count should stop now. Tinubu said “Igbos don’t matter” after all, just like his wife posited that “Igbos can’t be trusted anymore”. Tinubu must be reminded that this path he has chosen to tread presently led to the downfall of two great men in the history of Nigeria politics — Awolowo and Abiola.

If Tinubu and APC leaders, however, decide to ignore this piece of advice, they should be ready for another shocker on the second week of June when the 9th Assembly is expected to be inaugurated.

Emeh James Anyalekwa, National President, Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN), writes from Uyo

Politics / We'll Punish Those Responsible For Buhari's Loss In Anambra, Says APC by BadTaste: 12:54pm On Apr 01, 2019
Basil Ejidike, the acting state chairman of the party, inaugurated the 13-man committee at the party’s secretariat in Awka, the Anambra State capital during the weekend, the Punch newspaper reported.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has set up a panel to investigate its loss of Anambra State during the February 23 presidential election.

According to the party, the figures from the state do not reflect the party's political standing in the state.

Basil Ejidike, the acting state chairman of the party, inaugurated the 13-man committee at the party’s secretariat in Awka, the Anambra State capital during the weekend, the Punch newspaper reported.

Speaking at the inauguration of the panel, he said: “We are sure of our popularity in the state; we were surprised that our candidate lost the election in the state.

“That’s why we have to investigate the reasons behind this with a view to punishing our members found culpable in this loss.

"Political parties are formed for the sole purpose of winning elections, and if we cannot win election, then we are not in business.

“That is the reason we have set up this fact-finding committee that will probe into what happened before and during the last general election, which saw our party lying prostrate, without anything to show for its existence and participation in the election.”

C.J. Chinwuba as chairman is chairman of the committee; Kingsley Ibe is Vice Chairman, while Dr. Peter Ogbuka is the Secretary.

APC had secured only 33,298 votes against 524,738 votes secured by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
