You are wrong here a bit as April 14, 1914 actually fell on a Tuesday and not Thursday.
You are right sir. I agree with you.

Well, don't get mad - OluIbadan just didn't get any international recognition. Ibadan was never a Kingdom anyway.

Moreover, the OluIbadan is also Ijebu lol.
I'm not talking about international recognition. Guardian UK is as much a national newspaper to them in the UK as much as Punch is in Nigeria. I was only addressing the mindset or lack of research on the part of the journalist. I think it's the same mindset that made some people think Mungo Park discovered River Niger.

Olubadan is Ijebu? Seriously? I laugh in Ijebu.

Some people like Olubadan and co can not actually and accurately prove their age. Many of them guess and quote what they feel because they were born in their compound so no correct record.
For someone that has it on record to start his primary education 93years ago, I think that is a proof enough. I hope you know all primary schools keep admission records. I have personally seen such record on a visit to my own primary school.

Check this please:
Oba Odulana was born in Igbo Elerin in Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan to Pa Ayinla Odulana on Thursday, 14 April, 1914. Kabiyesi hails from Ladunni Compound, Oja’gbo in the present Ibadan North East Local Government Area, Oyo State. He began his elementary education at Saint Andrew’st School, Bamigbola in Lagelu Local Government Area in January 1922 and obtained a transfer to the famous St. Peter’s School, Aremo in 1929. He completed his middle education at Mapo Central School in December, 1936. Kabiyesi also furthered his education through correspondence college.

He worked briefly with the United African Company (UAC) as a Produce Clerk before he was employed to teach at CMS Primary School, Jago, now in the present day Ona Ara Local Government, Oyo State, in 1938 and in other primary schools, until 1942 when out of patriotism, he enlisted in the West African Volunteers Force which joined the Allied Forces against Adolf Hitler’s Germany in the Second World War.

Furthermore, Oba Odulana went into politics with a focus on representing his people in the 1959 pre-independence federal elections as Member of the House of Representatives. He had enviable appointments during this period.

As a community leader and epitome of educational empowerment, he assisted many parents, guardians and students financially and materially.

His contribution to education is outstanding. He was instrumental to the release of the land for the establishment of the then University College, Ibadan (now the University of Ibadan). For the record, Oba Odulana was the Chairman of the Education Committee of the Ibadan Native Education Authority that approved the release of the land upon which the University College Hospital, Ibadan is situated.
The dates mentioned in that write up are verifiable in records.

Olubadan throne is a Baale according to Yoruba folklore.
Can't be compared to 1st class Obas like Awujale.

Maybe that is why he wasn't recognised
I agree that Olubadan throne was originally a Baaleship. But it is still a monarchy. The use of the title of Baale was just to indicate that the Olubadan had no crown, he was not a viceroy of any king.

But that's just by the way though. On the age of monarchs, Ooni Sijuade of Ife is 85, and should be on that list. There may be so many others I do not know (or can't remember now) who should be on that list.

I'm about to bring you the top 10 oldest monarchs on the planet.

And shockingly, a Nigerian monarch made the list.

But who's this legendary Nigerian monarch with international recognition? - yes, they wanna know. grin

Follow me home - leggo!

I think the world ends at the limits of our knowledge. This oyinbo newspaper has probably not researched into mornachy in Nigeria elaborately. Olubadan of Ibadanland is almost 101 now and I believe there may even be others who are older than 89(Queen Elizabeth's age) in Nigeria.

The Guardian UK got it wrong
PoliticsRe: Queen Elizabeth II Now World’s Oldest Monarch by bamiwale: 8:38am On Jan 24, 2015
Wrong information

Olubadan clocked 100 last year. Some other monarchs in Nigeria or elsewhere may even be older.

Not every farmer resides in Ibadan. What of those in the south east ?
I mentioned Ibadan because that is where I have access to land at. I'm not that familiar with the South East. I hope some other Nairalanders can help you with that.

i want to do something like this. Go into massive agricultural project like this! I can hire machineries that will make the job mechanized! But my unanswered question is: how do I get large acres of land on lease?? Please who has the answer to my question?
Large expanses of land of this kind are not usually available for lease. And it is usually more cost effective to possess the land when going into serious agric business. If you lease land for such an enterprise, you will not really want to erect structures that may help your business on the land, knowing that the land isn't fully yours.
If you presently need to buy land though, you may follow any of my threads on Nairaland, especially this: https://www.nairaland.com/2036988/70-acres-farmland-ibadan

Welcome to 2015

After all the festivities are gone, what is your plan for the year? Will you spend the year day by day, just like the past ones? Or strategically invest it in achieving some specific aims? This is my challenge to you. I wish that this year will be one of great success stories for us and I hope we will find reasons to rejoice together when this year ends.

I welcome you to 2015.

Am interested in d lands but am far away in the north, if I eventually buy an acre/hectare wat happens if I don't start farming on it? Hope it won't be resold? Pls give me answers.
It depends on who/where you are buying from. Cases of reselling of lands is common around some places more than others. It is however advisable that you put your land to some kind of use immediately after purchase or at least put up the 4 corner pieces to dermacate your land.

However, if you need non-problematic lands around Ibadan, I can be of help on that. We've been buying land from some villages in Ibadan here without any issues.

80k for d land
The owner is not desperate to sell. In fact he is moving the price back to 150k per acre if the land is not sold till the end of this year.

However, I doubt if one can find any authentic land for 80k/acre in Ibadan. Thanks for the interest.

PoliticsRe: Excess Crude Account Is Empty, Not Shared In 18 Months, Says Oshiomhole by bamiwale:
If we have mismanaged our golden moment as the Governor pointed out, I think it's high time each and every one of us began to think of ways to contribute more to the economy. This is a challenge to us all.

If our national leadership has thus failed, let us take hold of our destiny. We have to reduce our dependency on oil and build the other sectors of the economy by our individual ingenuities.

We can do it! Our entertainment sector didn't take so much of government involvement to evolve to prominence it has gained in contributing to the economy. Ditto for our religious sector grin grin grin. We should all do whatever we can to make things better.

If you can, I will say: Do Agric..... Agric Pays.
