I am a passionate Mechanical Engineering graduate (HND Upper Credit) with few months of experience in auto and HVAC equipments installation and maintenance, currently looking for a work place to add skills in any of the following branch

1; HVAC in a construction site or workshop

2; Automobile Servicing and maintenance

3; Power Plant Maintenance and installation

Presently in Ibadan

Paid or Unpaid I will be committed because I want to add skills to myself.

@OP: Adhere to what this lad has stated. He is experienced and knows what he typed. The same reason why I said you should deal with industrial and not home generators is the same reason why this lad recommends you deal on high end European cars instead of the regular Toyota and Nissan. You deal with people who are financially capable to undertake whatever costs to repair their cars, can afford original (not tokunbo) parts not people who cannot an original part in your regular Toyotas or Hondas. But I heard the pay in learning these skills are horrible. You better get mentally prepared.

Mmbom! After they will say learn a skill (carpentry, mechanic and whatever).

More info about me, I'm from a low background, so I will just like to learn car programming and general maintenance because it will be unwise of me to frustrate my parents at this stage, then I can try to pick things up to advance level when I get my ground.

I really commend your vision.

You are already on your road to success. Time is of essence in the pursuit of success. No time to waste.

That is even why I am commenting in the first place. How many places have Industrial generators ? Don't go there.

Go for generator repair(Home generators) if you want to finish your training under One or Two years. You will master it in one year if you have a master who does not hide secrets while teaching you. Watch him closely.

Go for auto repair if you want to spend up to 4 years with your trainer.

Both of them are lucrative.

It's easier for you to learn car mechanic even from roadside and advance with your education. Automobiles will never go extinct and will never stop having problems.

Well I did marine engineering and learnt to fix cars. If anyone asked me I would say you could be a mechanic but focus on the electronics aspect and on the high end European cars. Learn to fix those instead.

But op as a graduate and 24 I won't really advise you to learn such. It's a waste of your technical abilities. Do some research on digital skills and try your best to acquire them. I recommend a digital skill because with that you can freelance for clients in the west. You can get a job with relocation packages to a much developed nation and you could even get jobs too in Nigeria if that's your thing. If you are also interested in being an entrepreneur, most venture capitals and incubator hubs will rather back up a technical founder with digital skills than a non technical one.

If you are going to dedicate 6 months to 18 months of your life learning something then that thing better be something very very useful.

You goofed when you said the company is a multinational, I corrected you.. You should have thanked me for educating you on what a multinational is, instead you came with another mess up again in a bid to cover up.

For the sake of others let me force myself to educate you again on your second goofing. FG has no percentage in BEDC or any DISCO...Do you know what DISCOs are? Let me break it down

During the privatization, the power sector was unbundled into 11 distribution companies called DISCOs , 6 Generation Companies called GENCOs and 1 Transmission company... All the GENCOs and DISCOSs where privatized leaving only the one transmission company for tie federal government... FG only has the transmission company and nothing more... If you were humble, you should have a pen and paper by your side now, jotting down instead of talking about what you know nothing about.

Are you working with BEDC? If yes do engineering graduate work on Electrical related project or just those office work?

I have read through the thread, I will say thanks for the information because it's very useful for we upcoming ones.
I applied for the recent advertised position of electrical engineering graduate trainee and I was contacted by jobberman to fill a form and I did but I studied Mechanical Engineering, I applied for Electrical because no advertisement for Mechanical this year and it requirements state's related course.

My question is if I am invited for interview will I have to defend those power engineering questions?

First, you have to acquire some certifications to boost your CV. But since you're low on cash, I advise you find something to keep you for the meantime. Then, start saving. If possible, you could engage a family member for help.

The main goal, is for you to boost your CV. If you play your cards right, you could dazzle your employers. I advise you to participate in a good number of certification/IT/internship programmes, and learn basic programming. I can try to help you, but only if you've done these.
They only accept people with this kind of qualification.

Just boost your CV. If it's good enough, they might not care about the HND degree or the 2:1.

I did my SIWES at ministry of works, Akure to be precise.
Most of the work there were maintenance and I was moved from one department to the other, basically Refrigeration/Air conditioning, Welding, Auto Mechanic and Plant Mechanic.

I don't know the step to take now, I will appreciate any form of guide Sir.
