@barby008 thanks for the response. but please what feed did you have to change to? and where u able to conquer the problem? somone also told me its probably the artemia i use. as i speak i have lost all fries and its really painful. as per weather, i am quite sure its in control. my hatchery is an indoor one. thanks

Hello all, I quite appreciate the good work you guys are doing on this thread. Please I urgently need assistance on my hatching journey so far. Its been so frustrating and annoying to go through the process of hatching and watch my fries die just from day 5. That has been my experience so far. I ensure that all parameters are on point. My water ph is 6.8 and I run a flow through system. I take time to syphon all dirt and feed left overs and maintain a high level of hygiene. However, I notice that my fries start to die in large quantities from day 5 till I have nothing left. Please what can be the cause and how can I resolve this issue.

Well done ma, you have done pretty good. Always make sure the net is well wraped to prevent fries escaping. Fries don't eat much at this stage just mentain good water quality. Are you stocking for growout or selling as fingerlings/juvenile?

Get your own P.H meter to test for every spawning.

1. Their yolk sac will be absorbed on the 3rd day then you may feed on the 4th day
2. the force of the Flow through might stress them abit, u may reduce the water coming in to the barest minimum or stop it. They cant exhaust the dissolve oxygen within a week if they are not over populated. I have an aerator but i barely use it
3. If your broodstock are ok you dont need medication at the early stage
4. They just have to be strong enough to withstand the pressure before you siphon them
5. Covering them is to make their environ darker which will trigger their activity, tarpoulin is nt bad and you have to open at night
This is what i practise in my farm so any addition or subtraction is allowed

I like your determination, please don't allow this to pull you down. I was once in that situation not untill now that I can just wake up and hatch without having any problem( with good broodstock) having said that. I will advice u do this, change the source of your broodstock. Check your water PH. Feed after d 3rd day, feeding shld be minimal. @ d edges of ur trough. Please are u related to one mrs Aminat, she works in abuja don't know d surname?

You style is cool but i want to chip in some advise.
You dont feed your fries after 48hrs, you have to wait until the 4th day.
When you run Flow through and your water is crystal clear and odour free you may stop, that is if your vat is not over populated because the force of the water might cause stress and may result to mortality.
Feeding twice or thrice daily is ok and you dont need
To add medication to there feed. You also need to check your artemia because it might be fake.
I guess you are over Feeding because you dont need to siphon with in the first week.
And lastly you may need to cover you vat to make them active.

Hello ma'am, have you consulted the farmer under whom you received training for 3 months, he should be in a good position to identify where you are getting it wrong. By the way i love the pix of your farm.

You have a good hatchery ma.
Most hatchers have experienced something like this but you shouldnt let it pull u down. Fries mortality has different causes like you ph, feed, poor water mgt, stres, temperatur, etc.
You may give the house some hint about your hatchery mgt from day 1 till when your hatchlings start dying so we can know were you are getting it wrong and correct you or get an experience farmer to check you farm out.
More also hatchlings dont need any medication during their early stage, proper mgt matter most
