Mrnothing:He didn't ask anyone to send pin to any unknown number. The problem with ignorance is that it fools you into unnecessary suspicion, acting to be clever when we're actually dumb. It is people like you who end up falling prey to fraudster, because you can't differentiate between what is genuine and what is fake. |
Francon:How, please explain. Everything looks genuine to me. |
Do you see the problem of Nigeria? We have a very unserious set of followers. See them talking about egusi soup and pounded yam in a thread about the smuggling in of ammunition and guns. These same weapons would be used to kill their brothers and sisters, even their own lives is not safe, yet they would rather talk about irrelevant things. I pray for foolish Nigerians. |
Yes, the APC is winning everything on offer today, from the assembly to the house of reps to the three senatorial seats. You can take it to the bank. |
Chai! See when God wants to punish Satan... You claimed Rivers State is peaceful, that the talk of insecurity is just the opposition trying to give your administration a bad name... Yet only you waka come tell "our boys" to "surrender" these arms in the name of amnesty. So could any place where this number of arms come from be described as peaceful? . Or could it be that you went and submitted these weapons from your own armoury to deceive the people in Abuja that you're fighting criminality in Rivers State? Where are the two crocodile eggs that was submitted in Ogoni? Where are the bow and arrow and pieces of red cloth? What about the sack bag that was filled with white sand? Or the earthen pot and bottle of kerosene? May thunder fire Satan! . He who the gods want to destroy he first make mad. See how God has disgraced you and brought you to the open. You used all these guns on APC members and still have mouth to claim that you won election fairly? . The funny thing is that what you have displayed here is not up to 10% of what is in the hands of the people you described as "our boys" in this state. Yet when some soldiers try to come and protect the vulnerable, you would call it "invasion" and hire all manner of emergency activists to speak rubbish English against them. When INEC expresses fear against coming to conduct election, you would sponsor a campaign of calumny against them as if they don't have a life and family to look after. . I have said it before and will continue to say it, God will not forgive you and Badluck Jonathan. This is what you people did with our oil boom money in your desperate quest for power. Instead of use it to build roads, hospitals, education and create jobs, you used it to buy arms for our little children to destroy themselves. Come to the Niger Delta today and see communities destroyed with no value for lives. God is watching!

Don't fool yourself. Ikwerre was nowhere in Rivers politics until Amaechi came in. Ogoni people will get what they deserve in due course. |
realglobe:You trust wike, You trust Wike... When the APC wins now you will say it was rigged. It is people like you that cause controversy. |
realglobe:One seat how? APC has already won some seats even in the last rigged elections. In the election done so far in the Rivers South-East Senatorial district comprising of 7 LGAs, the APC has won 3 (Oyigbo, Opobo, Tai), while the PDP has won a big fat zero. Of the 4 LGAs remaining, Senator Abe is from one, his opponent is from the other but he's notorious for not being able to win even his own unit in 2015, one of the last two LGAs is basically the headquarters of the APC in south-south and south-east, while the last LGA don't even know who is contesting with their adopted son, Magnus Abe. |
Rucheen:Everybody has his use, even a tamed thug can be useful at times. |
Is there any rule against quoting people? Wailers and their pointless complaints. |
The Chairman of the All Progressive Congress. Your excellency, the Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, Minister of Transportation and leader of the APC in the Niger Delta zone in the South-South, former Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, former Chairman of the Speakers Conference of Nigeria, and my own friend and brother. Welcome to your home. . On behalf of all the candidates of the APC, myself, Dr. Barinaadaa Mpigi, Hon. Maurice Poronen, Dr. Innocent Barikor, Hon. Fenco, Hon. Romnsan Dressman, Hon. Sampson Egop... On behalf of all of us, candidates of the APC, we want to thank the people of this senatorial district for your support. That in 24 hours, APC can turn out this number of people at this time, it is nothing but a demonstration of your love for this party. . Your excellency... I will only make two sentences and then will invite our leader to come and speak to you. . First is to say, that everything that we've been looking for, because APC is in power, because Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi is right in the centre of government, the Ogoni people can get all the things that we have been fighting for. . Because of the fighting and blood that was shed here, OMPADEC was set-up, it became NDDC. From that day till today, no Ogoni man has been part of the management. But because of Amaechi, because of Buhari, because of APC, today an Ogoni man is part of the management of the NDDC. . 21 years ago, Ken Saro Wiwa was hung because he was asking that Ogoni land has been polluted and it should be cleaned up. For 21 years, we have been crying, holding vigils, writing petitions, going to meetings, doing everything. Even when our own "son" was president, he told a group of Ogoni people that he was going to help us. We did not get any help. . But today, because of APC, because of Buhari, because of Amaechi, that thing we were all crying for, it is today that it is happening. It means that the future of Ogoni, the future of the Niger Delta, the future of Nigerians is save with this people in control. We must therefore vote for the APC. . Having said that, your excellency, let me with every respect and humility, invite you, our leader, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. . (Music plays as the MC screams "the Lion of the Niger Delta", and the Lion walks majestically to the podium and delivered a thrilling speech.

KingBelieve:Please don't delude yourself, Amaechi stays away from Port Harcourt because Buhari does not allow his ministers travel out of Abuja without his say-so. It has nothing to do with whatever delusion going on in the mind of any cretin. Have you seen when Amaechi is coming into Port Harcourt, he's like father Christmas, everyone runs after him like children, even opposition members. Amaechi is a class act, an enigma, a legend, his stories spread like wildfire. Those talking against him are only doing so out of envy and the bitterness that he kicked out their ineffectual buffoon. |
Amaechi is loved all over Rivers State, he's in a class of his own. No other Rivers politician has ever commanded his followership. To sit down somewhere and say he was humiliated by anyone is exactly the type of thing those still reeling from the defeat he handed them in 2015 would say. Sore losers! |
If there is one place that the APC shouldn't campaign, where is that? (Crowd roars, "Ogoni!" . God Wike says he must win here... You know why I call him god Wike? Because only God can say that. And since he's not God, what will happen? (Crowd roars, "he will fail!" . Wike can never be God. He was a small boy under me (crowd jeers and laughs).. The battle is not here at all. The battle is in the Ikwere axis, Kalabari and Ahoada axis, not here. . He said he would deploy everything. Anything he wants to deploy, let him deploy, we will deploy our own. . This is one place we don't need to campaign. I won't start to repeat the things we have done in Ogoni area, it's not important. What is important is, I dare him to do the same things that I did here, including taking your children oversees. Instead of leaving them behind, he returned them to Nigeria. Poor innocent children. Poor children of poor families. . What you will do, don't do like the democrats who went to sleep, come out and vote. In the past elections, we took security for granted, but this time we will not take security for granted. If Wike likes, let him come out. . At all the times he has come out, I said, does this man remember that he is a governor? It's only a thug that can stand in front of the judge's gate and be struggling with security men (crowd laughs again). Only a thug... A governor would go back to his house and call the president. . When the SSS invaded the residential lodge of the Akwaibom State government, the governor didn't go to the gate, what did he do? (Crowd screams: "he called the president" .. 'Mr. President, as I'm talking to you now, SSS people are invading the residential lodge. I don't know what they're doing here'. And they were asked to return to Abuja. . Instead of this one to call the president, what did he do? (Crowd shouts "struggled with security!" . Only a thug can do that... Only a thug.. In all the fight I had with the federal government with president Jonathan, nobody saw me physically battling with the security ( a voice screams "you're a governor!" . When I became governor, there were so many people appointed by Odili, there were so many businesses by Odili's people. Did I stop any? (Crowd roars "NO!" . Wike is a thug, he's not a governor. He doesn't know what it is to govern.. The only way to show him that he's a thug is this election, because after this election, Wike will not come here again. . How can you see a governor with murderers murdering people everywhere; giving them appointments everywhere? Ask the one in Ikwerre if he was arrested by SSS for murder in UST. Ask him. He was released by the pressure of government then. Now he's back killing people everywhere. . What you don't know about life... Let us even assume that we don't win election in 2019... (Crowd roars, "we will win" . I know we will win, but let us just assume. Maybe... Maybe... There will be a day that Wike will no longer be the governor, and he and his people will account for all the killing in Rivers State. That is why as a governor I was careful with what I did in office, so that if you call me, I'd be able to answer.. And I assure all of you, if anybody threatens you, please threaten back (crowd roars "Yeees!" .. Because all Wike does is to come on radio and you people are afraid, what is your fear? 'Oh, you're rigging, oh I'll kill you John'. But when some people, armed robbers or so, attacked him at Garrison, he ran away, and that means he loooves... (Crowd said "life!" . He loves life and he's killing people.. God will bless all of you as you come out today, and as you vote for all our candidates. Don't look for name, just vote APC, APC, down. When you finish voting, sit down there and be prepared to tell them that today, nobody can hijack it from us again. . Too much noise from Wike, when he has never won election before in Rivers State. President Jonathan sat down with the army and police and wrote his result, am I correct? (Crowd answers "Yes!" . Arase sat down and wrote the last result. This time, any police that would write result for him would kill us first (crowd shouts "Yeeees!" .. And then the National Anthem plays, His Excellency, the Lion of the tribe of Niger Delta has finished his thrilling speech. APC! Change!

People just sit on Nairaland to talk rubbish... Wike can send his thugs to kill soft targets, but when the chips are down, he has never found it easy in this senatorial district. Magnus Abe is Wike's greatest nightmare. Of the election conducted so far in the region, APC has won 3 and PDP won 0, and APC has a gap of nearly 50,000 votes. Only 4 Local governments are remaining, and the frank truth is that the PDP will not win a single one of them. Our people in the south don't know politics, that is why they sit on nairaland to idolised criminals and delude themselves into thinking they're strong. Wike's days are numbered in Rivers State, and he knows it as well. |
kross01:See full 15 points here, nobody distorted anything. . 15 Things Buhari Has Done To Cut Cost Of Governance And Reduce Wastages . 1. Buhari and his vice took a paycut of 50% to symbolise their commitment to the cutting down on the cost of governance. . 2. Buhari then directed the RMAFC to review and prune down the salary of all public office holder in the country. That review will only come into effect after the expiration of the tenure of the current office holders, as the constitution says RMAFC cannot review the salary to the disadvantage of public office holders the moment they get into office. . 3. Buhari reduced the number of federal ministries from over 40 to just over 20. Buhari reduced the number of federal advisers by more than 50%. . 4. Buhari has limited the number of his entourage on foreign trips to essential personnels only. Buhari implemented the TSA to plug leakages in every institution of government. . 5. Buhari has used the BVN to fish out over 40,000 ghost workers, thereby saving billions of naira of monthly salary for Nigeria. . 6. Buhari removed the fraudulent subsidy, thereby saving government trillions of naira of annual payment for a program that was only oiling the pockets of the corrupt. . 7. No federal minister in Buhari's cabinet can travel out of Abuja without Buhari's say-so, thereby cutting down on wasteful spending associated with aimless travels. . 8. Buhari has restructured the NNPC into a profitable venture for the first time in ages, the waste and leakages associated with the corporation has been reduced drastically. . 9. Before Buhari appointed his ministers, he spent months plugging leakages in the federal civil service and revenue generating agencies, resulting in Nigeria having more revenue to fund the budget from the non-oil sector than the oil-sector for the first time since oil was discovered in Nigeria. Before Buhari took over, the oil sector contributed to 85% of our national revenue. . 10. And most recently, Buhari has ordered the sale of 2 presidential jets from a fleet of ten, and directed that some of the jets be transferred to the Airforce for operational purposes thereby saving security agency the procurement cost of new jets. . 11. President Buhari turned down moves to procure new cars for his office, preferring to use the ones left behind by his predecessor, and saving over N400 million as a result. . 12. No minister in Buhari's cabinet was allowed to purchase any new vehicle, they all use vehicles left behind by their predecessors. . 13. President Buhari has reduced import of certain items we have comparative advantage in to reduce the waste of foreign reserves. . 14. Buhari also liberalised the petroleum sector, allowing importers to source for forex themselves, thereby reducing the waste of foreign reserves. . 15. President Buhari's fight against corruption has also brought in a new discipline in the way public office holders handle money, they are now aware that they may be called to give account of their spending later in the future. . The list of what Buhari is doing to cut down waste and reduce the cost of governance is almost endless. No other president in Nigeria has shown a greater commitment to this course than Buhari. It's true that Nigeria's problem is enormous and it becomes difficult to feel the immediate impact of what he is doing, but to sit down there and call him names because you don't know what he's doing is not only uncharitable but disrespectful. |

Thisis2raw:If Boris was a criminal then God should increase your wisdom, but if he was an innocent man killed only because he was standing against criminality in his community then may his fate befall you and your entire household. Please say amen, and if you fail to say amen, then the same ill fate will befall you. Next time you won't be opening your rotten mouth to talk about issues you don't know. |
Thisis2raw:I made this post, it was shared from my Facebook timeline. Boris did not commit any crime, don't make such insinuations against a dead man you know nothing about simply because you don't want to believe that the PDP in Rivers State is a nest of killers. The deceased is from the same community as a wanted war-lord and was killed simply because he stood against evil and criminality in his community. Every other APC member in that community has been on the run since the warlord was declared wanted by the security agencies, and he is in-turn taking them out one after the other. |
chrisxxx:Bail-out loan is basically interest-free, get yourself informed before berating other commentators who have a right to their opinion. And Amaechi was not receiving 35 billion naira in allocation, that is the lies you people like to peddle. True, there were months when allocation was high, just like Wike got about 25 Billion naira in June of 2015, but you can't use what happened one or a few months to talk about a government of 8 years. Amaechi's inherited IGR was 2 billion, but he grew it to about 9 billion and set the foundation for it to continue to grow. Right now Wike gets about 15 billion in IGR alone, he said so himself while claiming that the issues of insecurity in the state was a mere propaganda. |
saint047:Yeah, projects like a constructed gate and newly filled potholes. May God manage your life like Wike has managed Rivers State... Please say Amen to that. |
chrisxxx:There is no way you can compare Rivers State government or any state government for that matter to the federal government. The federal government as inherited by Buhari is one that was running on deficit, one that was borrowing money to pay salaries and one that was heavily indebted to oil marketers and contractors. Buhari inherited a budget that was about 90% recurrent expenditure, there is no state in Nigeria with an economy as bad as that. So comparing an oil rich state like Rivers State, the richest state in Nigeria, to the federal government is like comparing hell and heaven. While Buhari has to pay debts and manage the economy to achieve a healthy balance between capital spending and recurrent expenditure, Wike just had to use the large sum of money he's receiving in IGR, interest-free loans, and federation allocation to do visible projects like his predecessors did. He has however failed in every single aspect of development. |
dimieprincess:Meet their waterloo as in violence? You think miscreants can stand the Nigerian army? It is this level of delusion that is destroying our young boys in the Niger Delta who are led to believe that just because they carry guns they can confront real soldiers without any form of training. And hundreds of them are dying every single day... Please stop encouraging violence, there is nothing anyone can gain from it but sorrow. |
richidinho:Stop saying what you don't know, Nyesom Wike is one of the worst governor in Nigeria today. Apart from filling potholes and spending hundreds of millions to host program, there is nothing else he's doing. Rivers State has always competed with the best performing states in Nigeria, but under Wike, we're dragging for the last position. Wike has done nothing in health care, the agric projects of Amaechi, both the Songhai farm and banana plantation have all been abandoned by Wike. While other states are talking about diversification and looking for alternative source of income, Nyesom Wike's best idea is to use Obio/Akpor touts to harass poor people whose income has not increased to pay tax. Tourism and culture has been killed with the scrapping of Carniriv and not replacing it with anything. Wike brought our students studying abroad, people who got scholarship on merit. All the model secondary schools built by Amaechi has been turned to a conference room for snakes and lizards. Over 300 polytechnic lecturers have been sacked, with school teachers not receiving salary since February. How can you talk about development without talking about an investment in education? As we speak, apart from filling potholes and completing a few roads of the Amaechi's administration around the port harcourt axis of the state, there is nothing going on in the remaining 21 local governments of the state. Council chairmen are even owing their staff for several months because Wike took all the money from them. When you rush to social media to say a failed leader is doing well, you're actually doing harm to the people. Is it the insecurity, militancy, cultism and kidnapping that Wike is doing well in or is it in propaganda? Please stop mentioning Amaechi's name in the same senyence with Wike, they're not mates. |
I agree with you on that, but what Tinubu should do, as the national leader of the party, is to call him to order indoors and give valuable advice, especially involving the president. |
Stay focused in life and pay no mind to the ramblings of haters as long as you're doing good in the interest of the people. I read Ibe Kachikwu's press briefing where he said he was not trained to be a magician, and the hullabaloo that has surrounded it is just typical Nigerian, with our hypocrisy and pettiness, focusing more on trivialities than what really matters. What did Kachikwu say? . That, within a short period of time, the NNPC has moved from a 50% importer of petroleum products to a 100% importer, and within the time of this transition, there has been a bit of gap in supply which has resulted in scarcity. That his plan within the next two months is to import as much as possible and have for Nigeria a reserve so that in the future, whenever we have supply gaps, we would not feel the impact. This would bring a sustainable solution to the issue of fuel scarcity. Kachikwu said he's working very hard, but does not have the magic wand to make it just go away overnight. What exactly is wrong with that statement? . Ok, Nigerians are suffering under the sun in long queues and deserve to be spoken to with a bit of tact... But who in this country does not know that the reforms in the NNPC will attract a fightback from the dark forces within that organisation? If the NNPC now imports fuel 100%, it infers that they've done away with all the corrupt importers who use to hold us hostage, which also means that they've just attracted for themselves more powerful enemies who would do anything to sabotage the system. What we should then do as a people is to be supportive of Kachikwu, show understanding with him, and encourage him to do more. The man has brought more reforms to the NNPC in his few months in office than any other NNPC chairman that we've had in the past. He's not a typical politician who like to politicise issues, he's rather a technocrat who says things as they are. The call, therefore, for his resignation by some Nigerians is not only uncharitable but equally just pathetic. . As for Tinubu, as the national leader of the ruling party, I'm sure he's in a position where Kachikwu would've listened to him if he'd called him up to offer advise. It is however unfortunate that he, his wife and daughter have been very vocal in their criticism of this government, each time, over trivial issues, and I'm inclined to think that they're only doing so because they're not getting their way. . Nigerians should therefore be wary of any strange show of love from anyone, whether in the APC or PDP, over any critical national issue. We should also be happy that we have a president who is not being controlled by anyone. Like I said before, this is the first time that I have complete faith in the presidency. Criticism is good, it will help to push the leaders to be on their toes, but not all criticism is done in the interest of the people, even though they may appear to be so. |

1) They create doubt about the issue. When the facts are released, they say something or come up with an entirely different angle from the facts presented and prey on the gullibility of illiterate citizens, appealing to their sentiments. For example, if the government show you facts that a man is corrupt, they simply ignore the facts presented and make a strong-worded statement telling the people that they're being witch-hunted because of their stance as an opposition, even though there is literally no way you could proof the "witch-hunt." The aim is to make people doubt the facts already presented in the open, and make them argue among themselves. If Olisah Metuh comes out and rant about a witch-hunt, tell him to use facts and figures to defend himself, not some strongly worded statement that is neither here nor there. . 2) They create controversy and spread confusion. If an issue is already controversial, most people would not be willing to hear any side of the issue again, the people would assume that either side of the debate was already biased. And in a confusion, there could be lawlessness, the guilty is happy with lawlessness, they thrive better on it, their supporters would take side, and the ignorance would remain because the truth had been obscured. . 3) They stoke panic. The PDP compared our economy to that of Greece, despite obvious facts in the public domain that shows that the two economies are very different. With panic and confusion in the mind of the people, nobody would be calm enough to concentrate on the war against corruption, and its effectiveness would be watered down. . 4) The PDP also called the president a tyrant. When you call your president a tyrant in a democracy, you make him appear wicked and cruel to the people, and by so doing set him up to be toppled. Almost all the military coup in history have been about an excuse to liberate the people from a perceived cruelty and oppression of the ruling government. When you do this, the people will be almost grateful that you kicked the government out, while remaining ignorant about the true state of things. . 5) They pretend like they're balancing the debate. Now, an opposition is suppose to balance the debate in the interest of the people, that is a positive balancing of arguments. But here, the PDP would raise a completely obscure point and act really pedestrian with the excuse that they're 'balancing the argument as an opposition,' meanwhile their true intention is to obfuscate the fact and promote ignorance. When an argument appears like it is in the interest of the people yet it really is in the interest of one man who has been against the people, then this is a negative balancing of the fact. . A 1969 memo about the tactics used by tobacco companies to spread ignorance says, “Ignorance is not just the not-yet-known, it's also a political ploy, a deliberate creation by powerful agents who want you 'not to know'.” |
It's been so terrible the past few days, as the queue grows and the waiting goes, with the people scrambling to buy the black gold, even at astronomical cost of 300 to 400 naira per litre, and under scorching harmattan sun, the dreaded fuel scarcity looms... It seems we're only now just opening some of the parting gifts that our uncle Jonah bequeathed us in the dying days of that ill-fated administration. . We've known, of course for a while now, that In that little gift envelope was a whopping 413 billion naira of debt owed to Major Oil Marketers (MOMAN) who import oil for Nigeria. Yes, I know... That you would begin to wonder why the government would owe so much to these people after all the money we got from over 5 years of that windfall. But it was not normal, it was an artificial creation of that infamous cabal or, simply put, the owners of MOMAN, and aided by the government. Subsidy claims were cooked-up in a grand conspiracy against the Nigerian State... the NNPC, CBN, ministry of finance, accountant general of the federation, and every single person who should make sure it never happens, all conspired against Nigeria to aid and abet one another to arrangee the book in such a way that the nation, Nigeria, would be owing these people billions and billions of naira in subsidy claims for petrol they only delivered on paper, but never in reality. And all these things happened, even as our oga at the top stood idly by. . Let's jog our memory a little bit and recall once upon a time, at least some seven months ago, when the major oil marketers were worried, that since the economy was giving Okonjo Iweala some serious overdose of high BP, and Buhari was claiming to not know what subsidy is.. So they thought to themselves, that if Jonathan could not pay the debt in an oil boom, is it Buhari who is claiming not to know what subsidy is that would now pay them when the price of oil has fallen and the economy is broke? So they thought, it was time they held the nation by the balls and get their money when they could. And true to it, they held our pair of balls and squeeze it really haaard, the result was a tumbling economy that shook the whole nation like an earthquake. Banks were operating for half a day, manufacturers were packing up and running away from the sinking ship that is Nigeria, even MTN of all people threatened to shutdown for lack of fuel to power their mast. Power generation dropped down to just a little over 1000MW as the economic wheels practically came to a screeching halt. . All this happened, until the timely intervention of the senate committee on petroleum, headed by a certain senator Magnus Abe, who salvaged the situation by begging the oil importers to resume operations that the incoming APC government would pay the debt. And the importers yielded after extracting a commitment from the then incoming president, GMB, who promised to pay them the money in his own administration. . Now, Buhari has taken over, he's cleaning the petroleum industry, discovering some of the frauds and cancelling some of the oil swap deals to review them in line with current economic realities and global best practices. He has reduced the number of importers, or subsidy thieves if you like, from 43 to 29 to block leakages, and he's implementing other reforms. But one of the most critical reform is that the NNPC will, in 2016, begin to import fuel directly on its own, and no longer through those importers who we're indebted to now. This is a beautiful news for Nigeria, sweet music to our ears even, but a terrible-terrible news for the subsidy thieves, that government is making a long term plan to do away with them. . So, as soon as the NNPC made that announcement, those importers, who are themselves some of the most powerful men in this country (Wale Tinubu, Mike Adenuga, Femi Otedola, etc), decided to fight back... They decided to ask for their money, then perfected plans to pretend as though they didn't have any kobo with which to import fuel, unless government gives them their money. The government got wind of this plan and quickly decided to pay them, 413 billion naira, an amount not budgeted for which would've been appropriated in the 2016 budget. Government has again been cornered by powerful forces and must cough out so high a figure in a crippling economy. So Buhari approved it, and the NNPC quickly made the announcement to assure them that their money is on the way, to pre-empt what we're seeing today, with the only thing remaining being a bill to the senate to that effect. If the senate does not approve, the president cannot direct the CBN to credit their account. . But the oil importers would not be deterred, they don't care about the government or the people... They've never cared, they're the ones who made sure our refineries didn't work so that they would continue to stay in business and import fuel. And now Buhari is planning to get them out of business, so they must take their pound of flesh. If they crippled the economy, they thought, then maybe Buhari would negotiate. They pretended as though they didn't even believe that the government had the money to pay them, that the announcement was just a ploy to force them to keep importing, so they quickly announced to the nation that they have not seen any money, that their foreign exchange differentials has practically vanished hence they can't resume importation unless they get the alert. . So, as they were not importing, the nation began to run on reserves... NNPC said they have enough reserve to carry the country for some weeks until the senate approves the payment of the debt. The Tank Farm owners (JEPTFON), those who store imported petrol and sell to depot marketers (DAPPMA) to distribute to the whole country, reasoned that if the importers (MOMAN) were not giving them fuel, that their tank might run dry, hence decided to increase the price at the depot, especially the privately owned depots, even against DPR regulations. And with high price at the depot comes high price at the stations. This is just the market responding to market forces, when supply is low or practically non-existent as importers (MOMAN) were no longer importing, and public demand is high, then cost is expected to rise. It's as simple as that. And the funny thing is, even though the price at the depot were normal, depot petroleum marketers (DAPPMA) would still continue to hoard the product or sell at exorbitant rate as long as major marketers (MOMAN), or importers, are not adding to what is at the depot. This is why no matter what DPR or even the petroleum minister says, we should not expect to buy fuel at a normal rate until the bank account of the oil importers hit "credit alert". . The supplementary budget was sent to the senate on Wednesday, and all the major stakeholders in the industry held a meeting yesterday to resolve the crises . Although I'm not holding my breath until I'm told that the marketer's bank account have been credited, I'm highly confident that the issue will eventually pass away as soon as possible. But let us not forget why we have this problem in the first place, that there is massive corruption in the land conveyed in the vehicle of powerful forces. That Jonathan was not able to handle them, instead he fatten them up. And to be fair to him, he wasn't adequately prepared for such responsibilities. Never again should we allow those who are not well cut-out for leadership to mount the institution of governance, especially at the highest level. No matter how good their intentions were, you can never send a boy to do a man's job. We must therefore restructure our electoral reforms to make it impossible for any individual to be foisted on the people. I wouldn't deny some of the benefits that Nigeria derived from his weaknesses, but if he were a resolute leader at least, then the conditions that led to the fuel crises in 2012 would not have happened. If he didn't owe hundreds of billions of naira in an oil boom, and encouraged the situations that led to such debt, then we wouldn't be in this mess today. He left us with a country that was literally on life support - a sinking ship - and we're working hard to steady the ship. A country that couldn't pay salary to its workers, and even as we've steadied that ship, governors are now saying that they can no longer pay 18,000 naira minimum wage. These are the legacies of Jonathan, and we must not forget in a hurry, even as he celebrates his birthday alone. |
A very good friend of mine of Ibo extraction saw my post this morning and called me up to make his observation... He said he understands where I'm coming from and why I said the protesters were misguided. However, while he agrees with me, his major concern is that I haven't made any effort to criticise government's actions, from time immemorial, that has led the people to follow this course of action. He referred to one of my previous posts where I told a story of how a single road created by government led to division within a community... Then he likened the road to several injustices done against the different ethnic groups and tribes of this country that has formed a weakness for the corrupt politicians to exploit for their own selfish end. He then concluded by saying that just as peace returned to the community when the road factor was taken out of the equation, that so will Nigeria's problem go away if the injustices are given the attention it deserves. A compelling argument I must confess, one that reminds me of why he had to be my friend in the first place, but then... But then.... Hmmm... Where will I start now? . I told my friend that government, sometimes, goes beyond the painting of idealistic pictures and getting down to real business. That when you sit in the comfort of your cushion, it becomes increasingly easier to govern, you could practically turn stone into bread and raise a man from the dead just by having some lofty ideals that oozes out of the figment of your imagination. If only governance was that simple, "remove all the injustices and everything will be alright"... What a brilliant idea, who could've thought of that? And amidst the sarcasm, it reminds me of when a certain chairman of my local government area said, "if I call all the thieves and kidnappers in this area and ask them not to steal again, that I will give them the money instead, then I'd be able to reduce crime rate". And he was called up on a radio program to defend this policy, and of course he couldn't really mention it because it was not only embarrassing and pathetic, but also a misappropriation of fund that could land him in jail. And the point is that governance is not some idealistic picture we hold in our head... It smacks of real naivety to assume so. . ...Because governance is rather like a journey from point A to point Z, and in-between there are bumps and traffic hold-ups, policemen and mobile courts, and if you don't slowdown for the pregnant woman crossing the road, you probably might get hit by another moving car, or get robbed by armed robbers even. While the actual distance from point A to point Z may represent your blueprint, the whole travel itself is actually a journey into the unknown, every single stride is celebrated, but you would never really be able to fully celebrate it until you get to your final destination. So I acknowledged to my friend that there is injustices in the land, and it is not peculiar to any single tribe, but that I've gone past the stage of building castle in the air, to actually asking myself what am I doing to make society better than I met it. . So along this line I told him... That a few months ago, there was a mini-revolution in Nigeria, where the people registered their protest against fundamental issues that set us aback, such as failed leadership, injustices, and then the need for change. That I'm proud to say that while a lot of people either supported the interest of the cabal or simply sat on the fence because they lacked the courage or rectitude to upset the status quo, I fought gallantly, side-by-side with the people, and the majority of Nigerians had a major breakthrough as it should be in a democracy. Today, there is a new government in Nigeria that is completely made by the people, the voice of the majority prevailed and every Nigerian can now proudly say for the first time that power belongs to the people. I have resisted the temptation to say that the people won, because being a realist, I wouldn't be deluded into thinking that it is yet ohuru, for what will make a lasting impression on me would be when the ordinary man on the street begin to feel changes in their day-to-day living. So winning the election was just the first step, the greater part of the struggle comes after. . For now though, the president is still busy laying the groundwork. Nigeria for long has been a country built around powerful individuals, and it will take the president some doing to change it into one built around strong institutions. He's been busy strengthening the civil service and blocking leakages, making sure our MDAs are not built around ministers, but that ministers would come in and have a system that works to operate in. He's set up a committee to strengthen our criminal justice system. He just appointed a new INEC boss who has a major task to reform our electoral system. The military are on a path for self-sustainability, building their own weapons and not depending on other nations. Our foreign policies are finally having a direction... A major reform is going on in the oil sector right now to safeguard our resources and account for our major source of revenue. And every single day that passes, the government is taking steps to diversify the economy.. Major-major decisions, everyone of them strategic for nation building. And in all of this, the president has emphasised greatly the need for sustainability, because he realises that he's only but one man, he will leave office one day or leave the earthly life altogether, but for there to be lasting change and the protection of his legacies, there also has to be sustainability in every single government plans and programs. And it doesn't matter whether you call him "baba go-slow", the fact remains that there was nothing on ground and it takes time to put something on nothing. . So this is why I'm prepared to excuse the government now and cut the president some slack, we cannot begin to ask government to account for the sins of the past overnight, it will take time, but if there are concrete moves today to address those issues, then I'm prepared to wait, and give him the benefit of doubt, to see the fruit of the change we created materialise. I acknowledge people's right for protest and agitation, but there is time for everything... A time for protest, like we did in the last election, and a time to follow, like we should do now. . I'm not prepared to support any agitation now, because all I want from my government is to take responsibility, and so far, this government is taking responsibility. The bad-rule in this nation is not a creation of Buhari, it's a creation of everybody, the past leaders, the cabal, and we the people who have let them. If we must exist as a single entity, to defend and protect our constitution in the interest of our common good, then all of us must take responsibility... This is not a time for finger-pointing, we've been there, done that, for over half a century now, and the only thing we have to show for it is a massive big-for-nothing waste of potentials. Every part of this nation has tasted power now, whether North or South, whether as presidents or governors, chairmen or Councillors, we've all tasted power and fell short of our collective expectations. So we must all hold our hands up and take responsibility. Our president has taken responsibility by being committed to change, and by taking concrete steps to address them, it shows that he acknowledges the seriousness of the situation. . One thing I don't agree with, however, is that the president should call Biafra protesters for dialogue, just to show to the people he's taking them seriously. And I'm saying this because I know that this latest protest is a creation of people who are opposed to the government of the day. Powerful people. If the president want this protest to stop today, he wouldn't have to make a national broadcast or call the leadership of the IPOB to dialogue with them, that alone would not end the protest because the IPOD will continue to give one impossible condition or the other, because the real reason for their protest is not people-oriented. Yes, there are people who want Biafra, legitimately, who have contributed their hard-earned resources to see it come to fruition... I do not begrudge them that... Yes, there are movements and agitation all over the world... There is no single country in the world without this type of agitation, but they generally do not have what it takes to put the nation on her knees. And when you see this type of protest begin to garner massive support, then know that there are external forces behind it, enemies of the nation who want to get government attention, and don't mean well for the people but pretend that they do. So if you now call the real IPOD to dialogue with them, nothing will change, because they will also protect the interest of their sponsors and will continue to make unrealistic demands. But if you settle with the cabal who sponsors them, then the cabal would pull out their financial backing of the protest and the movement will die down again to what it was before. But only then, the danger in that is that, you would be owned by the cabal again, and you would be made to give to them resources meant for the people, leaving the masses to hang up to dry, their resources sacrificed on the alter of temporal peace and growing injustice, a situation that will always be exploited. We then would continue to have a circle where the government becomes a stooge of the greedy cabal, and because delivering the dividends of good governance take time, they will never allow you the time and latitude to bring governance to your people. A tricky situation really... . But make no mistake about it, there is no way you can completely eliminate the weaknesses of a nation that the criminal cabal likes to exploit... With a strong leadership, however, you could resist external manipulations. It takes only a strong president to break the circle painted above. And the good news is that Buhari is a strong president, if he's not listening to some disgruntled elements, then he's doing so because he's focusing on the bigger picture. He would not be distracted. He cannot afford to show any sign of weakness. If Jonathan had taken stronger stance against Boko Haram when it started, it wouldn't be the hydra-headed monster it is today. A strong president does not give-in to threats, bullying and intimidation, no matter how legitimate the reasons are. A strong president only pay attention to the voice of reason and diplomacy, with his sole focus being the collective interest of the majority. So, there is the time to protest and the time to follow, and after the mini-revolution some six months ago, now is the time to follow. A good follower does not constitute unnecessary distraction for their leader. We need clarity, and this protest is not giving us one, exactly what the enemies of the people want. And yet we let them. |

. God Wike says he must win here... You know why I call him god Wike? Because only God can say that. And since he's not God, what will happen? (Crowd roars, "he will fail!"
