Politics › Re: Ridiculous Imagination Of A £131,000 Politician's Wife's Handbag by BATified2023: 5:29pm On Sep 16 |
kayjordan: "Margaret Obi bought the bag with her money" - Peter Obi affirms, distancing himself from the luxury acquisition.
According to her public record, she's a director in her husband's trading company, former director in another trading company and a partner/owner in a Law firm. However, these organizations do not have strong online presence.
The £131,000 figure is the big question? Can a trading company or a small medium legal practice generate £131,000 (Approx. N260million) for a director's handbag? Isn't the IRS asking questions about such an expense? Or was it written off in it's financial records?
The reality: A country with a bad economy and low purchasing power, may give most companies in Nigeria, a hard time making alot of money. Therefore, how realistic can it be for a trading company or an LLC to generate a billion naira + in profit, pay salaries, pay utility bills and taxes and still have a huge profit after tax to fund an American standard lifestyle right here in Nigeria?
A two cent opinion: The Hermes bag purchase is likely exaggerated, and too heavy an amount for a successful individual in a Nigerian economy.
This pattern of luxury, has been recorded in the Nigerian economy multiple times in real-estate acquisitions, automobile acquisitions and elitist lifestyle in general. The internet is documented daily with Nigerians displaying constant wealth that create a cognitive dissonance. It's been noted that substantial number of times, lifestyles displayed on social media by Nigerians are not real.
There's a likely trend in Nigeria, called "The Show Business", and it simply means - the business of performing for an audience to make them see what you want them to see. There goes a saying, "fake it till you make it" - and certainly, Nigerians have capitalized on this for status reasons.
The scripted lifestyle of performative Nigerians otherwise known as "Influencers", lure novices into believing - and when these novices get influenced by the social media performances and trends, they often work twice harder than the actual performers, just to meet up financially and become online billionaires overnight in their dreams probably. These "wannabes" will continue this trail of performances until they see what truly happens behind the curtains.
Historically, black men have always been competitive since the time of high racial discrimination in the world. This inferiority-complex culture brought about dressing to impress others and lavish lifestyles, as seen in hiphop videos, and all was to prove a point to the white people - "that they can equally be as great as the whites".
The "notice me" culture continues to exist in black America and the diaspora but the dynamics are much different now as the competition for attention is intra-racial (blacks competing against blacks).
In conclusion, there are indeed wealthy Nigerians who can afford luxury however, the strong indicators for determining a person's spending power is their personal annual income, business revenue, company size, number of businesses and the status of the economy where their businesses operate.
Whether Margaret Obi could afford a N100 million hand bag or a N200,000 handbag, is totally up to her and her accountant to decide.
### but once it's done by tinubu or Atiku family then they must explain right? Thank God people are now seeing u for the hypocrite that u are |

motymop: buying directly from China does not mean you are buying from manufacturer, you are still buying from middleman
the average trader who buys from china at 1500 and sell to nigerian at 10k does that because they are not buying in volume, they are retailer
the funniest stuff is that you are crying loud online, which means nothing to the average trader
at the end of the day, the real decision will be taken at the union level and when the decision is taken, there is nothing you can do who cares if u have money to buy in volume or not, all we care about is that we want to buy directly from Chinese n not a greedy middle man who will make money from us n still rob it on our face that we are lazy. Which union? U will go n do union in your village n not here, u are a stranger n can't dictate what another stranger will do. U better go to twitter n see china must stay protest, many of your brothers went to destroy their shops n the police have already arrested like 8 of them. We are practicing a free market economy.
We will not deport Chinese businessmen so that you can continue your cartel monopoly extortion racket on us
Has it even crossed your mind that if Nigeria prevents Chinese from doing business here that the Chinese can do same to your people doing business in China ?
We are in a free market economy and this is just the begining of your woes as these Chinese guys will soon replicate Temu or Alibaba digital market in Nigeria to showcase, sell and deliver their goods through the internet.
You guys thought this day will never come , now it is here.
Just wait for Chinese EVs to start becoming a thing here and see an end to your other spare parts market ventures .
I even foresee these Chinese digital stores being embraced because of how easy it will be for state govts for collect VAT.
You guys never bothered to evolve now the Chinese will chase you back to your village God bless u We need the Chinese traders badly cos I remember the aftermath of the election where their brother lost out, they were bragging all over the place that they will punish us by increasing the price of their goods. Now Chinese are here to stay, once their brother lose out for sure again in 2027 they should increase their prices then we will move to Chinese people ASAP. Their major strategy for doing business is greed n exploitation, now Chinese have broken the Middle men barrier so we buy directly at affordable prices |

ElevationD: Sorry bro, I think you are missing it.
You cannot be manufacturing the same product for me; I borrow at high amounts to pay your product price + shipping costs to deliver to my retail shop in Trade fair, only for you to compete against me by bringing the same product to the same market directly from your factory at very cheaper rates and expect me to stay silent. That’s very unfair trade practice. who send u to act as middle man? We don't need any middle man who will sell at exorbitant prices, leave those Chinese traders.....we are comfortable with them |

motymop: we can stop foreigners from going into businesses that could affect the livelihood of the average nigerian
all countries do that, that is why south africa and ghana are protesting, even in china, the govt wont allow foreigners do some businesses that their citizens are doing.
In nigeria, the law does not explicitly say no foreigner can go into retail but it says that a foreigner must have ₦100 million minimum share capital requirement to do any business in Nigeria, that literally means foreigners are suppose to go into large scale businesses not retail guy u can rant and wail all you want but the reality is that Chinese are here to stay and we are comfortable with their price. Any other thing is story |

motymop: The govt created all the issue by not enforcing laws against those fixing price, there should be price control
on the Chinese, there is Chinese town in Lagos where they do wholesale and retail, Nigerians go there to patronize them for cheap but also it does not mean the quality are so good but they are cheap...govt should make Chinese sellers stay in China town to protect our retailers in our markets.
in China, foreigners are banned from doing many businesses, the reason is to make sure that citizens are not thrown away from their source of income
if we have to think deep, it is difficult to chase them out right now, they could open shops in a market and then use Nigerians as fronts, or their Nigerian wives or gf or bf as front, so that is a loophole
Now, the reality is that whatever anyone says online about the Chinese, whether they should be allowed to trade retail is just for online and tribal banter
at the end of the day, the owners of retail businesses we be the ones to decide if they want the Chinese in their markets or not through their unions, those unions are very powerful but their power stops offline
the chinese could just start selling online on instagram, whatapps and other social media, which will undercut the unions and those that also sell online
it is a dicey situation,...i dont agree that chinese should take over retail because they sell cheaper, they could flood the market with low quality clothes and other products and nigerians will think they are of high quality because the person selling is chinese
if they flood our market, they make it hard for the average trader to make money the average trader who is greedy right? The average trader who buys from china at 1500 n sell to Nigerians at 10000. The average trader who will deliberately increase prices of his goods to punish his fellow country men cos his brother was rejected at the polls. We Nigerians don't want middlemen again, we will buy directly from the Chinese For your information, the Chinese are economic immigrants just like u so u won't dictate what they do cos u are both strangers |

Armaggedon: You think you're fighting the Igbos but Igbos will somehow find away out of the problems for themselves while the ultimate loser will be you. Those businesses you see that you call trade have other businesses that rely on them. When you allow a Chinese who borrowed from China with 3 percent interest rate to compete with a Nigerian who borrowed in an incredibly weak currently with 30 percent interest rate, it not competition, you're killing your economy. Commodity prices will be determined in China, profits will be taken back to China and it'll spread to other sectors, not just retail. If this is the usual post to get at Igbos, Igbo will find a way out. The ultimate losers are the ordinary Nigerians. the profit our greedy brothers make, how has it benefit us as Nigerians? The only thing u do is build empty houses in the village n rob it in the faces of we your customers that we are lazy Imagine a seller telling his customers that they re lazy, Chinese traders won't do that. Let the Chinese come n sell their wares, we ain't xenophobic here Everyone is free to sell |

Penguin2: In trying to embarrass Peter Obi, Charles Soludo continues to embarrass himself.
Anambra Finance Commissioner said audit showed Obi borrowed $123 billion in 2013. However, since 1999 till date, Nigeria’s total external debt stands at about $117 billion.
So, how could Obi have borrowed, in 8 years, more than the amount owed by Nigeria as country (including sub-nationals)?
Can anybody make it make sense?
In the end, hatred for Peter Obi will destroy Soludo.
