The head of the National Office of the examination body, Mr. Charles Eguridu, told newsmen in Abuja, that the council would not compromise standards and its marking schemes on the altar of mass appeal and patronage. He however assured that the research department of the council will conduct an extensive investigation and comparison with the results released by the two examination bodies with a view to addressing areas that needed urgent improvement. On Wednesday 12 December, 2007, former Governor James Ibori of Delta State was arrested at the Kwara State Government Lodge in Abuja where he was hiding from the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) who have been trailing him over allegations of money laundering. Before he was finally arrested, he had evaded arrest by moving around in Abuja in convoy of some of his former colleagues like former governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State and Bukola Saraki of Kwara, in whose Abuja lodge, Ibori was finally nabbed by men of the EFCC who stormed the place. Saraki was then the chairman of the prestigious Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF). He had always had his way. He was a lord whose word was law. If anybody doubts this, just ask his sister, Senator Gbemi Saraki. I would have suggested the doubting Thomas to ask their father, the Oloye himself, Senator Abubakar Olusola Saraki, but he has since joined his ancestors. The story has it that the old man who control over the politics of Kwara for decades and brought Senator Bukola from nowhere to be governor in 2003 had planned that Gbemi would succeed her brother as governor in 2011. The two of them were supposed to do a sort of exchange with Gbemi leaving the Senate for Bukola. But while Gbemi left the Senate for his brother as planned, Bukola had other plans. He brought in Abdulfath Ahmed to succeed him and rejected his father’s plan to have Gbemi become governor after him. The old man who underestimated his son’s new enormous powers fielded Gbemi on.............. Read More http://dailytimes.com.ng/saraki-artful-dodger-ends-cul-de-sac/ Follow @DailyTimesNGR

For the embattled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) it is no longer at ease as the party battles to survive its new role of opposition having ruled the country for 16 years after claiming to be the biggest party in Africa. At the moment, intrigues and general suspicion have characterised its mode of operations since its ouster from power in May, a fallout of the typical lack of internal democratic tendencies that dogged its 16 unsteady years in power. Only recently, its plans to commence an e-registration of its members across the......... Read More http://dailytimes.com.ng/pdp-internal-crises-worsens/ Kindly Follow @DailyTimesNGR

In the first part of this series, the first of a set of studies on economic viability of states in Nigeria, I painted a picture of the potential and status of Kogi State. I showed that although Kogi State is poor by default, she is rich in potentials. I demonstrated how a fraction of the state has enough wealth in her ground that can generate, from just two minerals, limestone and coal, enough income to meet her current wage bill forty (40) times per annum for 500 hundred years.
