The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the distractions being orchestrated by certain elements in the polity will not deter the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari from its avowed determination to rescue Nigeria. In a statement issued in Lagos yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the people, including fringe elements, who had frenetically engaged in fault finding with the Buhari administration, were those who either had skeletons in their cupboards or those who were acting at their behest, for a fee. “These paranoid and skittish people daily run to the media to disparage the Buhari administration. Grasping at their straws, they condemn and criticize everything from appointments to the war against corruption and the battle against insecurity, even though the party to which they belong had 16 years to make things right for Nigeria but chose to suck the country dry, enthrone insecurity and pauperise the citizenry. “Their design is simple: Make enough incoherent noise in the media with the hope that the administration will be distracted. “Unfortunately for them, they have failed in their evil machination, because this President can neither be deterred nor be distracted. While their dogs continue to bark, the caravan of the Buhari administration proceeds on its steadfast journey,’’ it said. APC said while a virile opposition was indispensable in any democracy that is worth its salt, no opposition could succeed by dwelling on the mundane or engaging in bare-faced lies, adding that only good research, strict adherence to the truth and a focus on real issues rather than frivolities could make the opposition relevant. It wondered how the APC-led Federal Government could be blamed for the blatant refusal of the last administration to adequately equip the military to confront the Boko Haram insurgency, when even an appointee of the administration told the whole world that he was the head of a military that lacked the relevant equipment and motivation to fight insurgency. “What achievement is there for anyone to appropriate from an administration that will go down in history as the most rapacious, incompetent and clueless in the history of our nation?’’ it queried. APC said in less than three months of its existence, the Buhari Administration has started off on a strong footing in many areas, including the fight against insurgency, the battle against corruption, the reorganization of the oil sector that was the private piggy bank of the last Administration, the bailout of many states that could not pay the salaries of their workers, the revival of the Nigerian dream, the resetting of Nigeria’s diplomatic relations with the rest of the global community and the overdue clean-up of the Niger Delta region, which was shockingly ignored by a President from that region. ‘’With its sure-footed efforts in all the listed areas already attracting national and international acclaim, does it not beggar belief that the same Buhari Administration will be accused by the apologists of the failed regime of appropriating their dubious achievements?’’ the party said. Visiting the prisoners, orphanage and children’s hospice, are some of the many ways we can touch lives meaningfully and leave a legacy behind. Most people would have thrown very wild or flamboyant parties to mark their birthdays or anniversary but with the view to please God in addition to giving meaning to the lives of the down trodden, Nollywood stars joined Dr Chris Eke of Word and Spirit Assembly, Ijegun Lagos, as he marked his 40th birthday on Saturday with the Hearts of Gold Children’s Hospice and Kirikiri Maximum Prison inmates, Lagos. Dr Chris Eke during his visit to Hearts of Gold Children's Hospice Dr Chris Eke during his visit to Hearts of Gold Children’s Hospice At the Heart of Gold children hospice, a home filled with many abandoned, orphans and sick children suffering from a vast range of congenital abnormalities, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, autism and other neurological conditions associated with mental disabilities, Dr Chris shared good moments with the kids. The pastor who was accompanied with Nollywood stars; Chinyere Winifred, Amaechi Muonagor, Ebere Okaro, all broke out in tears sighting these special children. Amaechi Muonagor said ‘’this visit has opened my eyes and I was devastated, I saw so many beautiful children and could not understand why they had to suffer so much pains. What got to me more was despite their health condition, they were still happy and excited, ready to play, eat and smile when you come closer to them. I must also say that I was very impressed with how neat they all looked, how their nannies and care givers spoon feed and take care of them”. The pastor donated cash, food items and wares to the hospice. On the reasons behind his celebrating with these special children, the pastor said “God has been so faithful to me and this being my 40th year on earth is worth celebrating, there is no better place than here. This is an opportunity to see children with special needs that I have never seen before, and this has added to my experience commitment to God and mankind.” The visit to the Kirikiri female and Maximum prisons turned out a very emotive and joyous celebration. It was difficult for the inmates to let go of the celebrant and his entourage, the Great Ambassadors as he delivered to them, messages of hope, forgiveness, salvation, deliverance and transformation. They were also, presented with diverse relief items such as bags of rice, garri, beans etc, and fuel to power their generators etc. Eke told the inmates that he was not there to sympathise with them but to celebrate them because of what God has decided to do in their lives. He hinted that for so many reasons, he decided to celebrate his 40th birthday with inmates of the Kirikiri prisons adding that experience has shown him that “It is not about what you take but what you give to humanity that matters. It is in appreciation of the goodness and mercy of God upon my life. “ Dr Chris Eke (middle), pastor of Word and Spirit Assembly with the Great Ambassadors, during his visit to Hearts of Gold Children's Hospice, Lagos, to mark his 40th birthday. Dr Chris Eke (middle), pastor of Word and Spirit Assembly with the Great Ambassadors, during his visit to Hearts of Gold Children’s Hospice, Lagos, to mark his 40th birthday. Dr Eke also explained that it became necessary for him to celebrate with prisoners “When I discovered that a lot of people I grew up with, ended up in prison as armed robbers etc, I knew I must render some assistance to them. So, I just have to celebrate and thank God that I didn’t end that way, though a lot of them are victims of circumstances. I also want to send across the message of forgiveness, revival, salvation and deliverance so that they will understand that’s what life is all about. I’m here now, I’m fulfilled, I’m excited and I don’t think that I would have experienced the kind of joy I have right now, if I had thrown a birthday party. A representative of the Maximum prison appreciated Pastor Eke for celebrating with the inmates and identifying with the down trodden noting that the gesture was a symbol of Christ in him. He prayed that his visit will open the gates for regular visits to the prisons and also pleaded with the celebrant and general public to assist the prisons in the areas of prisoners’ education, a 2.5 KVA generator, flat screen Television, drugs, more vehicles to convey inmates to court, etc. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/nollywood-stars-cleric-at-40-celebrate-with-kirikiri-inmates-special-children/#sthash.aME9HqHG.dpuf lalasticlala ishilove

Uganda’s Supreme Court ruled Thursday that refunding of goods paid to a bride’s family after divorce was illegal, sparking celebration by rights groups who said women would no longer be “chained in violent relationships”. In Uganda, as in many nations, the custom of the groom or his family paying a sum of money or property — known as a “bride price” — to the parents of the bride upon a marriage has a long tradition. Bride prices are payments made from the groom’s family to the bride’s — the opposite of dowries paid in some countries, where the bride hands goods over to the man. The Supreme Court ruled that refunding it upon dissolution of a customary marriage was unconstitutional, after local women’s rights group Mifumi launched an appeal following an earlier court decision, arguing the practice contributed to domestic violence. “Refunding compromises the dignity of the woman,” Chief Justice Bart Katureebe said, according to the Daily Monitor newspaper, adding that paying a dowry back implied a woman was in a marriage as though on “loan”. Mifumi said the judge’s decision was a “landmark in the history of Uganda” that meant women were “now free to walk out of an abusive relationship without fear” of how their family would pay back the bride price. Mifumi said the payment of a bride price “reduces the status of women to cattle, to property that can be earned and paid for and exchanged for goods.” The charity, along with 12 other individuals, first launched a 2007 petition at the Constitutional Court, arguing that the refunding of bride price portrayed women “as an article in a market for sale” amounting to “degrading treatment”. The court however dismissed the petition in 2010, with the group then taking the case to the Supreme Court. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/bride-price-will-not-be-returned-to-husbands-after-divorce-in-uganda/#sthash.Kb95VHxz.dpuf |
