President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed frustration over the constant abuse he faces on social media, despite his major sacrifices in the struggle for democracy in Nigeria. Speaking during a meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee in Abuja, Tinubu noted that many of those criticizing him today were not involved in the pro-democracy movement that fought against military rule. “Social media users are abusing me. I sacrificed my life for democracy when many of them were nowhere. We fought for this democracy. We endured exile, harassment and persecution so that Nigerians can enjoy the freedom they have today,” he said. The President recalled his active role in the battle to restore democratic governance after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, during which he faced persecution and lived in exile. He acknowledged that democracy allows for freedom of expression, including the right to criticize leaders, but stressed that many Nigerians fail to appreciate the heavy price paid by those who fought to end military rule and restore civilian government. So a man of God in Delta State decided to walk into a shrine and destroy it to prove that the gods were false. He probably thought nothing would happen. Well… something happened. The matter landed in court. According to reports, the Federal High Court sitting in Warri held that his actions violated the constitutional right of the shrine’s worshippers to freedom of religion. The matter ended up in court. The court held that the action was unconstitutional and violated the worshippers’ fundamental right to freedom of religion under Section 38 of the 1999 Constitution. The court also found it inconsistent with Section 10, which provides that no government shall adopt any religion as State religion. As a result, the court ordered the pastor to: ✅ Rebuild the destroyed Egbesu shrine. ✅ Pay ₦100 million as general damages. ✅ Pay ₦100 million as exemplary damages. ✅ Pay ₦5 million as costs. ✅ Publish a public apology in two national newspapers. ✅ Stay at least 10 kilometres away from the worshippers. N1.8 trillion for the re-award of the 409-kilometre dual carriageway project in Niger State under the tax credit scheme to Aliko Dangote. 2. N276 billion for the dualisation of Ilorin-Ogbomoso Road. 3. N265 billion for the reconstruction of Iseyin-Eruwa-Agbesi Road in Oyo State and Kwara State. 4. Full business case for the operation and maintenance concession for the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the directive to commence reconstruction of the failed sections of the Ibadan axis using concrete. Minister of Works, David Umahi, also disclosed that the first 118km section of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway, valued at N137 billion, has been completed, while work on the remaining 164km section is expected to be completed in November.

Prophet Ayodele has backed Mama Tinubu, saying she has done well and Nigerians should stop misquoting her. According to him, "Mama, you have done well. Mama, why you said it, I will support it because these are my lines." He said women can start selling something like kuli-kuli, gari, akara, and even to the extent of selling leaf, rat or rabbit, depending on their field of profession. He said Nigerians do not like Mama and they do not like their government, which is why they misquote her. "It shows that they don't like them," he said. Prophet Ayodele then appealed to Mama Tinubu to increase the grants for women, saying, "Don't give them ₦100,000, no. If you want them to sell kuli-kuli, make it a big one. Make it ₦500,000, ₦1 million or ₦1.5 million. Women will be grateful. Use it to pacify them." He added that if women are given only ₦50,000 or ₦100,000, "that will not work." Instead, he said they should be empowered to sell groundnuts, cashew nuts, fruits, palm oil, zobo, pap, puff-puff, buns, fry potatoes and fry yam, saying these are petty businesses women can do and Nigeria may appreciate the government for it. He also urged Nigerians not to misquote Mama Tinubu, insisting she spoke well. He said the grants should go to the people who truly need them and not politicians, suggesting churches and mosques can help identify and distribute them to genuine beneficiaries. Prophet Ayodele further appealed that men should also be supported with grants to sell biscuits, meat pie, pure water and Coca-Cola. He, however, warned that the Nigerian government is borrowing money, which will continue to cause inflation and hardship. He said more inflation is coming, more hardship is coming if the borrowing does not stop, adding that the government is still going to borrow again in the next two months.

Results from the IReV portal showed that Peter Obi got 73,311 votes in Obio/Akpor LGA in the 2023 presidential election, while Tinubu got 17,158 votes. Between the polling units and LGA collation, that result somehow became 80,239 votes for Tinubu and 3,829 votes for Obi. Unfortunately, this data came out after the fact. I am not sure there has been a greater political heist in recent elections. Opposition candidates must be prepared with the data, technology, and capacity to fight this before collation is concluded at the ward and LGA levels.
