Siasia is currently in Atlanta, Georgia with his squad, as they continue to prepare for next month’s Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.

“We are suffering in Atlanta. We have not received any money since we arrived this training camp. I have not been paid for the past five months,” Siasia said.

“We will not hold the country to ransom by threatening not to play our matches, but the government has to come to our rescue.

“I know that by the time the Olympics will be over, our monies will not be paid.”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says its Computer Based Test mode of examination will continue to improve in the coming years.
The Head, Media and Publicity of the board, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Lagos.

Benjamin said the method would be sustained to achieve its gains.
According to Benjamin, the board has sacrificed a lot to ensure that this mode is achieved and sustained irrespective of some little challenges.
He said: “This CBT mode has come to stay and there is no going back on that.
“Recently, our attention was drawn to news making the rounds that government has cancelled CBT.
“We want to categorically make it clear that there is no truth in this as government has rather re-enforced its confidence in the conduct of the board’s CBT.
“At the 2016 policy committee meeting, government announced the cancellation of the post-UTME sequel to the confidence of stakeholders over the outcome of the board’s CBT result.”

Benjamin recalled that post-UTME was introduced 10 years ago as a result of the dwindling confidence of stakeholders in the conduct of the board’s examination.
He said it was as a result of the poor predictive validity of its results.
He stressed that the introduction of CBT had changed the narrative, adding that the issue of impersonation and other examination malpractices had become a thing of the past.
He said: “To ensure a seamless admission process in 2016, the Federal Ministry of Education invited all administrative heads of tertiary institutions for a meeting.
“This is sequel to the cancellation of post-UTME.
“It was equally to discuss the modalities of admission for the 2016/2017 academic session.
“Emphasis was placed on the usual admission criteria of merit, catchment and educationally less-developed states.”

Benjamin added that the criteria would bring back the glory days when institutions were cosmopolitan.
According to him, with the new admission criteria, there will be a lot of changes with each of such institutions having a reflection of Nigerian tribes irrespective of its location.

Vice-captain of the Nigerian National team, Ahmed Musa, has officially signed for English premiership champions, Leicester City on a four-year deal worth £18million.

"It’s really sad that after 38 years of setting up the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), she’s still on the quest to getting it right. It hurts when I see bright minds deprived of the opportunity to further their education largely due to the incompetence of the examination body. A question always pop into my mind: “Can’t we just scrap this system?”

Here is my view of what I feel should be the way forward
JAMB really needs to look beyond conducting examination. She should serve more as a portal that connects the students with the tertiary institutions. What do I mean by this, students should only register through JAMB having meet up with the requirements laid down by the body and their credentials should be forwarded to the institutions for the admission process

The system should be done in such a way that a candidate can only choose a max. of 5 institutions. The payment method should also be a factor of the number of schools chose. The minimum could be 2 institution costing N4,000 flat. An addition of extra school determines how much you eventually pay. E.g. For every extra school pick, you pay an addition of 1,000 to the 4,000 flat.

Access the website, fill up the number of institutions interested, print out the transcript, go to the nearest bank to pay, collect your pin and finally logon to begin your application. This will reduce the cost of printing scratch card which does not even sale for the exact amount in some part of the country. Some agents go the length of adding extra N300 before purchasing the card from them.

Once the application is closed for the year, JAMB should then sit down and process the various entries. A centralized timetable will then be designed for the conduct of the exam. Candidate who chose UI and other schools for example might take the other school’s (UniZik, FUTMINNA, IMSU and AAUA) exam first before taking that of UI’s depending on the calendar drafted. If a candidate who chose UNIBEN logon for the exam, he would be redirected to UNIBEN’s question which was set by the school herself.

This means JAMB technically have no question but serve as a middleman between the school and the candidate. This is where University standard come in to play. OAU’s questions might be more challenging compared to University of Uyo and students who wishes to attend OAU have to prepare very well.

After the examination, either the school/JAMB can mark (objectives) depending on the agreement reached and the result is then forwarded to the institutions. The result will then determine the cut-off mark to be used by the institution.

If for example, a candidate made it in to 3 of the 5 schools selected, he has the period of a month to accept just one of it creating vacuum for another potential candidate at the school he rejected.

This will balance the population across the institutions in Nigeria."

[b]An Abia State Polytechnic student, identified only as Abel, has killed the landlord of one of the students’ lodges in the Immaculate area of Aba, Abia State.

Abel, a final year student of the Department of Architecture, allegedly stabbed the victim in the stomach during a disagreement at the lodge.
Our correspondent was told that the landlord had ordered that no female visitor was allowed to spend the night in the lodge.

The suspect was alleged to have breached the rule and was challenged by the landlord, which led to a fight between them.
In the ensuing scuffle, the suspect was alleged to have grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim in the stomach, before taking to his heels.

The landlord reportedly died on the spot.
His remains were recovered by the police and deposited in a mortuary.
A student of the institution, who identified herself only as Beatrice, explained that the caretaker of the lodge was the first to notice the breach of the rule, adding that he informed the landlord.
She said the landlord barged into the room and met Abel and his girlfriend Unclad, which caused the fight.
She said, “The incident happened around 9pm on June 29. The deceased had made a rule that no student living in the lodge should bring a lady to pass the night there. He also made it a rule that every visitor, be it male or female, must leave before night falls.
“However, the suspect brought home a female guest in the evening and both of them went inside his room. The caretaker of the lodge saw them and waited for them to come out, but they didn’t. He then put a call through to the landlord, who hurriedly went to the building around 9pm.

“On arrival, the landlord barged into the student’s room where he met both the lady and the student Unclad. Instead of excusing himself, he attacked the student with punches. The lady quickly grabbed a wrapper and ran out of the room into another student’s room in the lodge.
“As the confrontation continued, the student stabbed the landlord with a knife, put on his boxers and fled that night, leaving the landlord dead in his room.”
It was learnt that the incident threw the community into confusion as the matter was reported at a police station in the area.

The police were said to have launched a manhunt for the suspect with his picture posted at strategic areas in the school.
When contacted, the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, Nta Ogbonnaya, confirmed the murder, but said he could not tell what transpired between the suspect and the deceased.
He said the case file had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigations, adding that the police would get the fugitive.
He said, “Yes, there is a case of murder involving a student of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, who stabbed his landlord in the stomach. I cannot, however, tell what happened between them. I also don’t know the name of the landlord and the suspect. As I speak with you, the case file has been transferred to the SDCI and we are working with the school authorities to get the details of the suspect.

“I, however, want to advise him that he should submit himself to the police voluntarily. I assure that wherever he decides to go, we will get him and he will face justice.”
Efforts to reach the school authorities were abortive as the official telephone line on the school’s website was switched off.

The first date is a big one. The biggest. You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression, nor do you get a first chance to erase the memory of you spilling some kind of iced beverage down your date’s back. So what are the worst possible things you could do when meeting a special someone for a drink or meal for the very first time? Just avoid the following and you should be fine.*

2. Get too drunk
Enjoying a bit of a tipple before or during your date is not a terrible idea – frankly, anything to take the edge off potential first date awkwardness is a winner in my book. But know your limits, because there’s nothing worse than finding yourself on a date with someone who has alcohol-induced verbal diarrhoea, or who is dribbling onto a beer mat. 6. Eat things with parsley in them
Because parsley gets in your teeth and your date is probably too polite to let you know that this has happened.

7. Come over too keen
Flirting is one thing, but don’t wander into ‘I’ve never felt this way about anyone before’ territory on the very first date. Equally, talk of marriage, babies, how all your friends are settling down and you feel left out etc. etc. is off the cards. Stay cool.

9. Talk about sex

It has been brought to the attention of the management of Lagos State University that candidates who chose LASU as 2nd (preferred) choice of institution are facing some challenges in registering for the 2016/2017 admission screening exercise.

Please be informed that:
a) Your Screening Exercise will commence after the receipt of the 2nd choice Omnibus list from JAMB after the conclusion of the 1st round of the screening exercise.
b) Screening exercise for candidates who chose LASU as 2nd choice of institution will take place in August, 2016. However, information in relation to this second (2nd) round of screening will be placed on LASU website.
c) You must constantly check LASU website for announcement on the time-table for the Screening Exercise for candidate in your category.
d) Spaces have been reserved for second (2nd) choice candidates for the purpose of this exercise.
e) Candidates that did not chose LASU are not QUALIFIED for screening. However; if such candidates apply, they will not only be DISQUALIFIED, but would also forfeit whatever payment made, as it is NON-REFUNDABLE.
f) Candidates that have earlier made payment (1st and 2nd choice) for the screening exercise are assured that they will be considered for the 2016/2017 screening exercise as appropriate.
