Politics / #endsars: What I Told Buhari -sanwo-olu by bestv(m): 12:00am On Oct 15, 2020
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, met with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday.
During the meeting, he presented a copy of the demands of youths protesting against police brutality and extortion in the country.

He explained that “the President restated his commitment to embark on a holistic reform of the entire Police Force.

While presenting the demands of the protesters officially to Buhari, Sanwo-Olu said, “They (protesters) said we should release all the protesters and we have released them.

“They said we should set up a Trust Fund to pay compensation to the families of those who have died. I have set up my own Trust Fund today and I have announced it.

“The third one, they said we should set up like a small enquiry for people that are bitter. So, tomorrow the IGP is coming to Governors’ Forum and he is going to ask each one of us to set up a five-man team.

“The final one is that we should increase the salary of the Police. The IGP said he is working on that. The IGP said he is going to be working to take some of them through psycho-social treatment.

“They would go to Force Hospital where they will go through a thorough medical evaluation. The ones that can still be absorbed; they will. Everything is working well.”

#EndSARS: No Nigerian blood needs to be spilled, says Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has warned that no life must be lost as youths continue to protest against police brutality.

Jonathan said this in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

He wrote, “No Nigerian blood needs to be spilled or life lost during a peaceful protest that seeks to advance our country. We may hold different views on national issues, but there is no doubt that most people desire the same thing for Nigeria: a place where we can all live out the full potential of our God-given abilities. I implore everyone to exercise restraint as we walk through these challenging times.”

Thousands of youths have been protesting against police brutality, harassment and killings by policemen across major cities since last week.

Rights group, Amnesty International, said on Monday that 10 persons had been killed in the protests.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has set up the Special Weapons and Tactics Team to replace the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

FG to double airports by 2023 – Sirika

The Federal Government says it will double the number of airports in the country before the end of 2023 to enhance air connectivity and boost the nation’s economy.

The Minister of Aviation, Mr Hadi Sirika said this while responding to questions during the Public Presentation of the 2021 Budget Proposal on Tuesday in Abuja.

The public presentation was organised by the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning.

“We understood the principles and the importance of air connectivity and it is a very important sector. It boosts our economy and we believe investment in this sector will do well for our economy.

“Before the end of 2023, we would have doubled the number of airports in Nigeria. We understand the importance of aviation infrastructure as a critical component for the working of our economy and our natinal security assets.”

IG: training of new squad to start

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu said the training for a new police unit to take over from SARS will begin next week.

Adamu spoke when musician, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, visited him in the company of other stars.

The new outfit, the IG said, will be intelligence-driven and properly trained to tackle violent crime such as armed robbery and kidnapping.

Adamu said the unit would be made up of new personnel with a fresh orientation and not officers from the scrapped unit.

He said opportunities would be created for the public to participate in and make inputs in the formation of the new unit.

He called for calm as the police leadership resolves all the issues.

Adamu said of SARS replacement: “It will be intelligence-driven. The personnel will be properly trained and they will not be on routine duty. They will only act on special occasions based on intelligence.

“The issue of collecting and going through people’s phones and profiling people because of their appearance or vehicles and so on would be a thing of the past. That era is gone. It is no longer acceptable.

“Anyone indulging in such would be punished. So, rest assured that the new structure will be intelligence-based to serve the citizens,” Adamu said.

FG to create 5m jobs in agricultural sector -Minister

The Federal Government is to create about five to 10 million jobs in the agricultural sector through the Agriculture for Food and Job Plan (AFJP).

Alhaji Muhammad Nanono, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, said this on Tuesday in Abuja at a ministerial press briefing ahead of the 2020 World Food Day Celebration.

World Food Day is celebrated annually on Oct. 16 in more than 150 countries to raise global awareness on issues of poverty and hunger.

The theme of this year is “Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together. Our actions are our future”.

The minister said the AFJP, a component of President Mhammadu Buhari’s Nigeria Economic Sustainability Plan (NESP), was launched in July to cultivate more land in each state and provide zero interest loans to farmers, among others.

“The first phase of the scheme has produced over 1.1 million beneficiaries across all states and the FCT.

”Out of the 5 million planned beneficiaries for AFJP, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has empowered 1,138,000 farmer-beneficiaries across the 36 states and the FCT under the first phase of implementation.

Nairaland / General / 2023: Primate Ayodele Makes Stunning Prophecy About Tinubu’s Presidential by bestv(m): 5:55pm On Sep 25, 2020
Following the rumoured presidential ambition of the former governor of Lagos state and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in 2023, a prominent Christian leader and founder of Inri Evangelical Spiritual Church, Lagos, Primate Ayodele, has made a new prophecy.

In an exclusive interview with the Nigerian Tribune, the cleric described Tinubu's ambition to become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a good development in the country's political system.

Legit.ng gathered that Tinubu has what it takes to govern Nigeria successfully, adding that he would be a good president for the country.

2023: Primate Ayodele makes stunning prophecy about Tinubu’s presidential ambition

Primate Ayodele, however, advised the APC leader to take care of his health status, saying that it is only God who can keep him till 2023 and beyond.

He said:

"Tinubu’s plan to be president is good. He has what it takes. But he should go and take care of his health. He should take care of his health. It is only God that can keep Tinubu before and beyond 2023. I love him; I want to support him in prayers. He would make a very good president. But his health may not allow it."
Speaking on the forthcoming Ondo governorship election, the cleric asked Governor Rotimi Akeredolu must not sleep as he emphasised that the governor's allies would betray him at the poll.

Primate Ayodele added:

"Akeredolu must not sleep. There is fire on the mountain. He should work; some of the people who surround him will stab him at the back. If care is not taken, those who claim to support him will support one of the candidates against him. He needs loyal people so that they will not upturn his victory."
Primate Ayodele advised Akeredolu to re-strategise, adding that if he could work on his campaign and be serious, he would return for another term

Buhari Leads By Example, See Wedding Invitation Of His Daughter That Prohibits Mass Gathering

Leadership by example is better appreciated by the citzenry and taken more serious. Nigerians, most especially pay lip service to rules set by the constituted authorities where such laws are not well respected by those in power.

In his bid to curb the spread of pandemic in the country, the Federal Government ordered that mass gathering at public functions be prohibited in the interim. As a leader, leading by example, President Buhari conspicuously displayed on the wedding invitation card of his daughter, that is coming up soon, that mass gathering will not be encouraged at the event, in compliance with the safety protocols of COVID-19 pandemic. (See the invitation card).

Many people in position of leadership would have thrown decorum to the winds by having a well attended wedding ceremony. The President, however, kept faith with those who have been denied of such rights due to the current health challenges in the society today.

As could be seen in the wedding invitation card, the wedding ceremony between the daughter of the President, Aisha Hanan Buhari, and her lover, Mohammed Turad Sha'aban (the Wakilin Tudun Wadan Zazzau) will take place on the 4th of September 2020, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The invitation reads that no gathering will be held but well wishers were asked to support the event with their prayers.

President Muhammadu Buhari has undauntedly set a good example through his leadership with his no gathering instruction at his daughter's wedding as could be seen in the Invitation card below:

President Muhammadu Buhari purposeful leadership by example in this regard is quite encouraging and worthy of emulation. A society premised on this type of leadership will progress and be enviable in the comity of nations.
