CELEBRATING ODOFIN FREE SCHOOL BUS...a free educational transport project that executed uninterrupted for seven years


Ogun State is home to the origin of Free Education and it's celebrated initiator, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

As at the time he was in office, most of the projects of Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo were not seen as much iconic. Owing to the political struggles within the Action Group party, and the 1983 Presidential Election, Baba Awolowo was easily passed as one of those politicians who are like theatrist, coming to the stage for a play of power and leaving never to be remembered. But how wrong were they who thought so, and how blessed are we who live on after Chief Awolowo.

Following the footsteps of the iconic of democracy, Hon. (Odofin) Samuel Olusola SONUGA, would later find himself towing the legacy path of his childhood hero, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, when he unprecedentedly got elected as the Honourable Member representing Ikenne State Constituency at the Ogun State House of Assembly in 2011.

Hon. Samuel Olusola SONUGA, "Odofin" as he is fondly called took off his quality representation with a free school bus scheme. The first of its kind in Ikenne State Constituency and the second of its kind in Ogun State as at the 2011-2012, was doubted as a project that will last long due to the huge financial cost and implications. But again, how wrong were they who thought so, and how blessed were the students who would later enjoy the free ride for seven good years.

For the record, some students who gained admission in JSS 1 as at 2012 when the free bus scheme kicked off, never paid a dime for transport all through their six years of secondary schooling, as they ensured daily timely routine to take the bus to and fro school for their 6 years of secondary schooling. Today, some of those students are graduates in various institutions across Nigeria while some are rounding up their tertiary studies.

Again, like Awolowo, as at his time in the Oke-Mosan legislative chambers, most of the constituency project of Honourable Odofin were not considered as iconic, even when they were the first of their kinds. Also, owing to the political struggles within the All Progressivs Congress (APC) party, and the 2023 General Elections, Odofin was easily passed as one of those politicians who are like theatrist, coming to the stage for a play of power and leaving never to be remembered. But how wrong were they who thought so, and how blessed are we who live on in the days of Odofin. Today, his works and impact-generating representation speak for him, as many of his constituents look forward to a replication of his able representation. His political influence was strengthened more, by his projects, making him easily retain the leadership position of being the Majority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly as at June 2, 2019.

The Odofin Free School Bus scheme has become a legacy, and iconic representation of free education. For the seven years it ran, students were able to save, parents were able to save, the security and safety of students who had to daily cross the ever busy Sagamu Being Express way was guaranteed, lives were preserved and lives were changed and the impact of such a tenure in office still lives on in Ikenne State Constituency which he represented.

Asides the school bus, Honourable Odofin is regarded as one of the most brilliant and fearless legislator Ogun State House of Assembly ever had. He sponsored bills and co-sponsored many others, leading to the creation of state agencies, building of infrastructure and of course, taking Ogun State in a whole to the next level. Indeed, his times were like that of Chief Obafemi Awolowo as the Helmsman of the Western Region, whose legacy he ably represented and replicated at the foremost legislative chambers in Ogun State. He was a man of constituency projects that speaks volume and is yet to be surpassed in Ikenne State Constituency of Ogun State, even as at 2023.

For vvery schooling day, Mondays to Fridays for every month for seven good years, students, irrespective of schools, got to commute to schools across Ilisan-Remo, Ikenne-Remo, Ogere-Remo and even Remo North. It was a massive capital intensive project, having to fuel up to four Buses, pay a monthly salary for the drivers and assistants, servicing the bus, changing body parts, keeping it in good shape and condition every day in seven years takes a whole lot. The worth and weight of this project is that there has never been a kind of project like Odofin Free School Bus, since four years that Hon. (Odofin) Samuel Olusola SONUGA ended his tenure.

In dire times of Nation building such as this, it is no wonder that constituents of Ikenne State Constituency are missing such an impactful State Constituency project like Odofin School Bus, and are grateful that Odofin initiated such a project widely thought as possible, thereby raising the bar of quality legislation.

Today, Hon. (Odofin) Samuel Olusola SONUGA brings to bear his experience in nation building as the Board Chairman of Ogun State Traffic Compliance Agency (TRACE) in Ogun State. Indeed, a golden fish has no hiding place.

To all persons travelling into Osogbo tonight, either from Ife or Ibadan, kindly plan and prepare for an unexpected traffic jam on the Expressway leading into Akoda, Ede, Osogbo.

Those planning to leave Osogbo or pass through the exit expressway of Osogbo into Ibadan or Ife are advised to review their travelling plans.

Eyewitness report states that people are spending undue time at the snail-speed traffic movement on the only expressway that leads into Osogbo, through Gbongan, Odeomu.

The traffic is due to failed portions of the expressway that became worsened after the heavy downpour witnessed in Osun State. It's takes much pain, stress and extra carefulness to now drive into the capital city of Osogbo these past weeks, which is the rounding up weeks of the present administration.

Urgent care is to be given to the expressway as it does not give a good image to the present administration and the State at large.

This ai also to call on security agencies and traffic control agencies of both the Federal and State Government to see to this unusual traffic jam.

Breaking: FORMER OGUN LAWMAKER EMERGES NEW BOARD CHAIRMAN OF TRACE

As part of efforts to reposition the Operations of the state traffic management outfit, TRACE, Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has appointed Hon. Olusola Sonuga as Chairman Ogun state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Board.

The appointment according to the state government takes effect immediately.

Hon. Samuel Olusola Sonuga, the former majority leader of the Ogun state House of Assembly is expected to bring his wealth of experience in both public and private service into the management of TRACE in Ogun state.

Hon. Sonuga, who serve as a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Ikenne State Constituency between 2011 - 2019.

Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) is a paramilitary outfit incharge of traffic in Ogun state.

It was was established in 2006 to provide Road Safety Management System to the citizenry of the state.

The services include Institutional Management functions, coordination, monitoring, evaluation, research, development and knowledge transfer.

Dear Excellency Sir,
Governor Dapo Abiodun Sir,

Quite commendable is your swift reaction to the St. Kizito's case sir. It is not disputable that you are doing the BEST in your CAPACITY as GOVERNOR of Ogun State but it is the truth that you CANNOT do it ALL sir.

However sir, the good thing about FESTUS OGUN's post is that you need many other young minds with the rising drive and passion that is much more than that of "FESTUS OGUN" on your media and publicity team sir. It is sad that the media team of your Excellency and your administration are treating your good governance like charity, where you do much and talk less, in the bid not to treat your good governance like hypocrisy where you do less or nothing and talk much.

Your Excellency sir, your media and publicity team should treat their job with STRATEGY, not for the PAY, but for the PEOPLE. The PEOPLE need to know where they were at the beginning of your tenure and WHERE they are now, as you seek a second term. The PEOPLE of OGUN have the smokescreen of OPPOSITION to battle with, so they will need a PERSONAL TOUCH to help them see through OPPOSITION propagandas and believe that "manna" is falling from your "heaven" in our "wilderness". Hence, the PEOPLE in your media and publicity TEAM NOW must of necessity live, walk and talk among the PEOPLE on the STREET, or else it shall be told in GATH (Social and STREET Media) how that the mighty has fallen, when he is still standing. It is so obvious that 80% of the Governor's media and publicity team are not physically located in various parts of Ogun State but holed up in a government residential quarters at Oke-Mosan, doing remote publicity of your physical activities. Their remote work is only with a remote passion and producing remote productivity, hence, the lack of passion and strength of conviction on showcasing your good works sir. Again sir, I strongly suggest that you tell your media and publicity team to move from the OFFICE to the STREET, let them live among the people, talk with the people, walk and work with the people. It is your PERSONAL move to bring down the JERICHO walls of opposition fast encircling the people of Ogun State.

Your Excellency in addition should recruit VOLUNTEERS, young people, in local government areas and institutions, at the Grassroot level and GrassTweet level, who believe in the good governance of your adminstration always and are willing to make others see the obvious and tell where and what more can still be done that affects them more. But, don't exclude young lawyers sir, because FESTUS OGUN has shown what young lawyers can also do for or against you sir. Kindly let go of the PORTFOLIO administration bug that has clung to your appointees sir, it is backfiring, because from the side of the PEOPLE, nothing PRACTICAL is of the way and manner how majority of the Governor's appointees, are relating with the grassroots. It's fast proving that "the Lagos-based" are running Ogun State, yet without a credible people-base in Ogun State.

I dare say sir that Politics is unlike JESUS sir, who makes the blind see and the deaf to ear. Politics makes some eyes go blind and some ears go deaf, hence, the need to be on the GO and never stop SAYING the seeds you have sown. Though some may have fallen on rocky, thorny soil and some seeds sown may have been eaten by the birds called OPPOSITION yet the seed sown, fallen on fruitful soil are enough to produce a HARVEST of eMOTIONs, to be seconded by PVCs, for the passing of the bill of your SECOND TERM into LAW. I pray, may the NAYS not have it.

Sir, OSUN and OGUN are just a one letter different, but have no different WORKERS plight sir. Kindly, PAY and PAY ATTENTION to the Workers in OGUN State and do it STRATEGICALLY and SINCERELY sir. Nothing more is worse than tossing money into bank accounts of workers and pensioners when their emotions are unhealed and the grievances are unappealed sir. Their PVCs is not connected to their account but to their hearts. While money may suit their needs, it takes more than money to sweeten their sorrowed emotions. Workers work with their LIFE, and less MONEY, your Excellency equally works with your LIFE but with much more money. It's obvious that money has created the inequality but it cannot remedy it, MERCY not Money is the anti-dote sir.

Dear sir, it's time YOU also and everyone in the service of your ADMINISTRATION begin to spend much time on the Street and among the people. They have been so long deafened by the sirens of your appointees dashing in and out of town to spend the weekdays in Oke-Mosan and the weekends in Lagos and Abuja. The People of Ogun State are now consoling themselves with the MUSIC of the opposition. A HEARTpreciation in presence and physical engagement through heart2heart TOWN HALL meetings will do from now till election sir. Don't LIVE far from the people when their PVC is living with them sir. Have as much presence with them as their PVCs sir.

Your Excellency sir, OSUN state recent election has set FIRE on the Mountain of your ADMINISTRATION. Like my Pastor will always quote another Pastor, we cannot stop the birds from flying over our heads, but we can stop them from building a nest on our heads. This fire, started by Festus Ogun could not have been stopped, going by the liberty of social media and freedom of expression, but the fire can be quenched or used to turn inedible perspectives of your ADMINISTRATION into edible and appealable conviction about your administration sir. Hence, you personally sir, need to go beyond PARTY structure to WOO the PEOPLE, and TREAT whatever wounds the opposition is dealing to the REPUTATION in their HEART. I believe you are a Good Governor with a Good Heart sir, but the PEOPLE POLITICS does not CARE anymore about that sir.

Don't let this KINDLED FIRE become a FOREST FIRE sir, the RAINS of MONEY are not a match, your best FIRE-FIGHTING Team are the people of Ogun State, the ever young and vibrant youth of Ogun State.

Odofin - Qualitatively Representing Your View

REMO FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY, DESERVES REAL CHANGE.

In 1999, while canvassing for votes, plethora of electoral promises were made by several Politicians who ran for political offices. The promises were all in the direction of life in larger freedom - freedom from want, hunger and destitution. They promised to construct roads and build hospitals, schools, eradicate corruption and enthrone moral rectitude.

May 29, 2018, make it 19years of uninterrupted democracy, but there is no scintilla of the dividends of democracy on ground to justify the number of years expended so far. It is pathetic to say, that after 19years of plethora of promises, Remo Constituents is in mess, total mess. What we have is a traumatized state. Let us not pretend about it.

We can not shy away from the fact that our people are suffering. Our hospitals are no go areas, our roads are terrible, our lives and properties have become completely unsafe and there are no jobs for our teeming youths. It is undeniable that generally speaking, the lives of our people have become harder, and the processes which affects our lives critically, largely exclude us and force us into a parasitical unequal coexistence with those who parade themselves as our Representatives.

We can not also claim ignorance of the fact, that those who had the opportunity to have transformed our lives, while occupying juicy positions under the 8th Senate, are now hiding under the umbrella of political parties, feigning repentance. The truth is, no matter the amount of rain fall, it can never wash away the spots on the skin of a Leopard.

We have helplessly watched Remo Federal Constituency, fall tragically into the hands of Brigands, Petty Thieves, Fraudsters and Thugs masquerading themselves as leaders. People without any atom of conscience. For them, politics is an investment. It is a commodity to be bought and used solely for their personal aggrandizement.

2019, is around the corner, the same class of politicians, some of whom have metamorphosed into political parties, are back again, to repeat the failed promises made 19years ago. They are trying to use the weapon of poverty created by them, to continue to rule us and perpetually keep us in abject poverty, maladministration, underdevelopment, insecurity, joblessness and hopelessness. I call on you to say no to money bags.

This is the last battle of our lives, we can not keep on repeating same conduct over and over again and expect a different result. We must be concerned about the future of our Children and unborn generation. We must not again mortgage the future of our children for 'a bowl of porridge. Enough is enough.

I humbly believe that Remo Federal Constituency, deserves a new set of thinkers, a new set of ideas to inject life into the politics of our State and Constituency, a new beginning, just to get things right. We deserve total freedom from the yoke of bondage. We deserve real change.

Honourable Olusola Sonuga represent that real change, because he have never been corrupt. He's Experience, with utmost sincerity of purpose to serve.

Hon. (Odofin) Samuel Olusola Sonuga on Monday called on Muslims in Remo Constituents to embrace the values of sacrifice, love and continue to foster unity as they join their counterparts worldwide to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.

In his Sallah message signed by his media aid, Icon Bolanle Balogun Esq, Olusola Sonuga said the period of the celebration was a clarion call for Nigerians to imbibe the lessons of the season such as selfless service to God and humanity, sacrifice and sincere commitment to righteous conducts in their private and public life.

He explained that the significance of the season should be beyond feasting, adding that as Muslims prepare to offer animal sacrifice in the prescribed days of the festival, the real essence should be to encourage piety, self-discipline and sacrifice.

Hon. Sonuga therefore called on all remonians to exhibit these values for the good of the Remo Federal Constituency and shun any act capable of heating up the polity or causing distrust among various ethnic groups in Remo constituents.

“As we celebrate this auspicious occasion, let us renew our faith in our constituents and implore the Almighty God to restore to us those values that place high premium on human life, love of neighbour and sharing even as we ventilate our faith in the unity of our dear constituents”, Sonuga said.

“This period requires more patience, fortitude, tolerance, endurance, patriotism and a greater willingness to make personal sacrifices for the good of all,” he said.

The leading aspirant for the House of Representatives in Remo Federal Constituency also thanked Remonians for supporting his ambition, assuring that he would continue to do its best to serve the people and promote fairness and mutual tolerance among the populace, irrespective of their ethnic religion or political affiliation.

Mother Nature has been very generous to Ogun State "The State" and Remo Federal Constituency "The Constituency" at large with the gift of sunshine, rainfall, fertile soils, hills, valleys, forest, rivers and streams. With a land of 16,433 square kilomtere in size in Ogun State "The State", of which Remo Federal Constituency has a fair share, including the 80% of its arableness, it is not doubt that agriculture is one of the main economic activities with the potential to transform Ogun State.

The State and the constituency has various climatic and ecological features, which make the cultivation of a wide range of agricultural products practicable. The Constituency's latitudinal range incorporates three ecological zones namely, mangrove, rainforest and services savannah, each with its own agricultural potential product

We also have the critical population for agriculture to be practiced and the consumers to buy the products. There is therefore no reason why we should not have a thriving agriculture business.

The challenge before us is to ensure the transformation of this potential to actual productivity.

The vision and passion of Hon. (Odofin) Samuel Olusola SONUGA aMHR-2019* is to take on this challenge by restoring agriculture to its preeminent position as an economic force in the entire Remo Federal Constituenct. Not just to drive the satisfaction of local demand, but also drive production for exports, leading to inflow of cash and financial resources to the people thereby improving the economic wellbeing of our people.

Odofin4Rep2019 is the materialisation of the faith and confidence in the dignity of farming and agriculture as a symbol of industry and business in Remo Federal Constituency.

One of the Odofin strategy of transforming "The Constituency" is by RESSAD- Remo Support Services for Agricultural Development. Knowing agriculture as a industry, it is undeniable that farmers are only at the production end of this industry. For the success of this industry, other complements to production must be made present, and these must be aggressively developed also, some of which include:
a. Harvesting and handling equipment.
b. Modern seedlings and nursery plants cultivation ad distribution.
c. Pesticides and herbicides production and distribution.
d. Primary storage and preservation facilities.
e. Agricultural training and seminars on modern forms of agriculture that births high quality and quantity of food produce for consumption and as raw materials thatbwillbe sold to Food Manufacturing Consumption Group (FMCG) Companies in Ogun State and beyond.

Yinka Mafe, Honourable member representing Sagamu Constituency 1 in the Ogun State House of Assembly has been endorsed and adopted by the leadership of the All Progressive Congress in Sagamu Local Government of Ogun State as the candidate for the House of Representatives election slated for next year. Such a false story has provoked the need to make a reply for records sake and in the interest of our dear party, the APC.

Diligent investigation has revealed that the above claim is false, baseless and the mischief of some who do not wish the party well. The party executives in Sagamu Local Government who are said to have endorsed the candidature of Hon. Yinka Mafe have adamantly refuted such claims and spoken to the contrary. The party leadership, through its Chairman, has also come out to debunk this news making the rounds in the media as contrived and not representing the true state of affair of the party with regards to the election for next year.

Effectively, I want to use this medium to reassure my supporters and the general masses that the claim that Hon. Yinka Mafe has been picked to the exclusion of any other contestant for the House of Representatives election is untrue and not factual. I am still very much in contention for the ticket of our great party for the representative election and committed to winning a free and fairly contested party primary as a precursor to winning the election for our great party once again.

The public should kindly note that the All Progressive Congress (APC) is a party whose abiding principles and policies are rooted in democracy and fair play. The insinuation that the party has endorsed Hon. The 1965-independent nation of Singapore moved from third world to one world in one generation because her 35-year old Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew was a man who went through the process of time to develop his leadership capacities and vision. He has a transformational leadership style, developed passion for his people and had the zeal to change his nation.

I see this same capacity, passion and zeal in Oluseyi Animashaun as he has been elected to serve his fellow students as UNILORIN SU President-Elect under the mantra, “Investing in People”. The competence of Oluseyi to lead the SU is his superior force of excellence cultivated by mastery of essential leadership skills which he acquired by virtue of his exposures speaking at educational events, curating ideas, volunteering and trainings. He has served in various capacities both within and outside the university. And it cannot be that the product of this process be a mediocre or visionless leader.

The quality of life of a people is proportional to the quality of life of its leadership. And the quality of leadership is a measure of the process such leader has gone through. I always caution people against following a leader who had no track record of consistent and excellent followership. Followership forges the character of a leader. And Character is the most important quality of a leader. Oluseyi is not a vagabond in destiny. He is a consistent follower. He is the product of a process. I vouch for his integrity and noble character.

I have spoken vehemently and even written a book on the brain-drain in our institutions of learning; the emergence of homo stupidus and how ill-prepared our universities are to produce creative and solution-oriented graduates. We have made a great decision to approach our collective future with an intellectual leadership. Oluseyi is sound, intelligent and brilliant as he has represented the University and his faculty in special outings and came back with commendations and good reports.

The intellectualism, soundness and creativity of Oluseyi was tested last week during the SU Presidential Debate where he won the debate with a score of 86%, outsmarting and outwitting the closest aspirant with a margin of 23.2%. A leader with such depth, insight and foresight with this golden opportunity will explore his vision for human capital development.
