Politics / The Woebegone Quietus Of Social Consciousness by beyondsky(m): 12:49am On Feb 11, 2021
Consciousness is the state or fact of being conscious or aware of an external objects, state, or fact. Social consciousness thus is the state of being aware of the problems that affect a lot of people in society, such as being poor or having no home, and wanting to do something to help those people. Against this backdrop, greater number of Nigerians have deliberately disconnected their conscience from external affairs beclouding the masses but in favour of the elites. The predominant and deadly of all the quagmires confronting and devouring the masses is stark excruciating mental and material poverty. Consequently, it has become an indomitable occupation of average Nigerians to transcend material poverty by sacrificing popular welfarism on the altar of greed and selfishness just to gain the favour of the cabals who brought the entire nation to it present tragedy. Egocentrism and blatant stupidity have degenerated average Nigerians to an irreformable race without an iota of nationalism.
The psychological effect of egocentrism caused by material poverty is the sad quietus or death of social consciousness; a chronic mental poverty. The quietus of social conscience is an assassination to altruism, nationalism and an enthronement cum preservation of egocentrism and self-preoccupation. The state of being absorbed or occupied with oneself is self-preoccupation whereas the unselfish regard for or devotion to the welfare of others is altruism. Nigerians are indifferent and careless set of people skillfully ignoring issues affecting the masses such as insecurity, corruption, poor infrastructure, failed educational practice, failed healthcare, lack of job, hunger, high tarrif, inflation, police brutality, superstitionism, religious extremism, etc. Showering of praises and presentation of meritorious awards to failed public personalities is the prevailing hypocrisy we are facing in Nigeria today. Such demonstrations of hypocrisy and mediocrity is suicidal to one's social conscience (a consciousness of the predicaments of the masses brought upon them by some unconscionable cabals).
The salvageability of our country is solely dependant and conditional on the resurgence of the sense of selflessness and I- Thou relationship in addressing and evaluating issues confronting our society regardless of our selfish gains. The sense of empathy will quicken the resurgence of our dead social conscience.

Let's individually take it as a divine occupation to be the mouth piece and the spinal cord of the masses and to diligently perform our onuses. Let's form an alliance for justice, truth, emancipation and nation building regardless of our internal diversities. Outside the shores of Nigeria we are defined and ontologically identified as Nigerians. Our individual illed acquired wealth does not count in the global community, what counts is our height of development as a nation palpable or noticeable in our healthcare centres, schools, laboratories, personality development and landscape architectures. Myopia is suicidal to our society, let's see beyond our individual confines and take objective approaches in assessing and resolving the challenges confronting Nigerians and develop a Nigerian dream which we shall contribute according to our God given talents to see it come into reality. Our development and happiness is dependent on our social consciousness and the determination to overcome our perilous quagmires.

My fellow guys, my experience is not a past it is a present situation. Right now that I'm talking to you I don't have a penny to get food to eat.
You should know what it means to see yourself in that mess.
I would be glad if a friend could assist me with a token.
