IslamRe: The Essence Of Fasting by Bibleteacher: 9:27pm On Mar 07, 2025
AbuAbdirrahmaan:
Fasting is not just about abstaining from food and drink—it is a spiritual transformation that deepens our consciousness of Allah and refines our character. Here are key insights into the true essence of fasting:

1️⃣ Fasting is a Path to Piety – Allah commands:
"Fasting is prescribed for you—as it was for those before you—so that you may attain a consciousness of Allah." (Quran 2:183)
It is meant to purify the soul, discipline desires, and elevate our faith.

2️⃣ A True Fast Transforms You – If Ramadan makes you more obedient and spiritually aware, then your fast is fulfilling its divine purpose. Otherwise, self-reflection is needed.

3️⃣ Beyond Hunger: Fasting of the Tongue & Heart – The Prophet ﷺ warned:
"Whoever does not forsake false speech and action, Allah has no need of their abstinence from food and drink." (Hadith)
True fasting means guarding the tongue, eyes, and heart from sins.

4️⃣ Sins Diminish the Reward of Fasting – Engaging in gossip, lying, and argumentation while fasting weakens its impact. Our pious predecessors would avoid idle talk and seclude themselves for worship.

5️⃣ The Power of Self-Control – If provoked, the Prophet ﷺ advised:
"If one should abuse you or strive against you, say, 'I am fasting.'"
Fasting teaches patience, helping us remain composed in difficult moments.

🤲 May Allah grant us the ability to fast in the truest sense—purifying our hearts, controlling our tongues, and elevating our faith. Ameen!
