Career‘why Confidence Is Key’, Man Shares Personal Experience by bigtimi(op): 2:38am On Jul 10, 2015
They say every man ought to desire a better life but I dare say it is not enough to desire, every man must demand for a better life and to do that, a great measure of confidence is required. Confidence in oneself and one’s ability to express

I was born and raised in the suburb area of Ajegunle, Lagos. My father, a retired police officer had seven of us and as you can imagine, it was not a pleasant experience. Many a times, we took turns at several things including food ration, sleeping ( there wasn’t enough space in our one-room apartment) and even schooling. I was the last of the seven children but that did not bring me any favour, as is usually the case in several homes, instead, it doubled my portion of the house chores. Once I was eight years old, I joined my older siblings to hawk on the street. We would toil for hours running to and fro the hot roads of Lagos selling different items, most times bare foot.

But I didn’t let all of these bother me. Instead, I took the challenge and did all I could to ensure I had a better life. I saved up to buy books, saw myself through school, graduated with a 1stclass in Mass Communication and got a job with one of the biggest financial servicing companies in Lagos. After over five years of working as an executive at the firm and helping it win countless of big pitches, I knew I could do better. I craved for a promotion, to a managerial position, at least. I took up relevant courses in management and even went for training but it just didn’t happen. My boss, whom we all feared, for some reasons I don’t know, was bent on keeping me in that spot.

Then one fateful weekend, during one of my regular evening strolls, I began to reflect on my past and how despite my poor background, I had managed to achieve all that I have. I soon realized that none of what I had would have been if I have given in to fear, ‘If the street didn’t kill me while growing up, my boss wouldn’t’’

With this resolve, I headed to work the next day. I shared my plans with some of my colleagues who had the same desire as me but they wouldn’t bulge. Actually, they thought I had gone crazy, ‘You better let us continue like this. What if he gets angry and fires us? one of them told me. I was battle ready. I dusted my suit’s lapel (Harvey Specter style) and headed for my boss’ office. By the time, I opened the door..

RomanceMust Read: Man Shares Touching Story Of How Confidence Got Him His Wife by bigtimi(op):
I am the happiest man alive today not because I have the fattest bank account or a mouthwatering wardrobe allowance but because today marks one year since I got married to my beautiful wife. A few of you may be wondering why that should be so much of a big deal to me when on a regular basis, millions of couples celebrate their twentieth, thirtieth or even fiftieth wedding anniversaries but hey, lets celebrate the days of little beginning.

Perhaps if I shared the story of how we met, you will understand why I am this giddy. It started in 2013. I had just finished University and was posted to serve in Lagos. I hadn’t been to Lagos in my life and was a little apprehensive about it but nonetheless, I had to go, ‘That is where your destiny wants. Go there and do well’, my aged mother told me on the day I was to make my journey

I arrived Lagos at exactly 7am, after about twelve hours of traveling, I arrived at the popular Oshodi terminal, ready for the next phase of my life. In no time, I was seated in the Iyana-Ipaja bound bus right next to a gorgeous damsel who seemed too preoccupied with her iPhone to even notice me. As God will have it, her battery soon ran out and I knew that was my cue. I didn’t waste time,

‘Can I fill in?’ I asked.

She shot me that quizzical look as though asking if she complained of boredom but trust me, I wasn’t moved,

‘I mean, can I keep you company till we get to our destination’.

At this point, I could tell I had a fair chance so I fired on and in no time, we were laughing and gisting as though we had been friends since forever.

We continued with our friendship on camp. We did everything together and were always with each other. Luckily for us, we got posted to teach in schools within the same vicinity and our friendship continued. We didn’t need a soothsayer to tell us we were into each other, so after a few more months of friendship, I made the move and we became ‘official’.

But then, there was an issue; she is the only daughter of her father who is a General in the army. He once led the battalion to a peacekeeping mission in Sierra Leone and was renowned to be a feisty and protective of her, but how could I not know about this from the start?….Love is indeed blind. After several months of postponement, I finally summoned up courage and asked to meet her father. My colleagues, friends and even a few family members had warned me to prepare for the worst, some others even advised I back out of the relationship but no, this was the woman I love and the one I was ready to be with.

The day soon came and there I was about to be consumed by the unknown. She sat next to me calming me down and assuring me all would be fine but mehn! I was tensed. A million and one thoughts kept racing in my head, ‘What if he was angry’, What if he sends me out’ ‘What if he asks that I be detained’ but I refused to give in to the fears and allowed my confidence take over. A few minutes later, he walked and I must confess, I was dazed.

Events5 Things You Missed At AY Live Abuja by bigtimi(op): 12:48pm On Jun 26, 2015
5 Things You Missed at AY Live Abuja

1. Elenu & AY Parodies President Buhari & Bola Tinubu
“I belong to everybody. I belong to nobody.” These words have become something of a social media sensation since President Muhammadu Buhari uttered them during his inauguration speech on May 29. The Internet has been alight with spoofs, parodies and memes surrounding this statement and AY just had to get in on it. Following the success of his “Jega” parody skit from AY Live Lagos, which went viral, he again donned an alternate personality onstage, this time that of Bola Tinubu. Just like the last time, Ushbebe and Elenu were the perfect comedic foils alongside him as the audience screamed and wailed in laughter. We can’t wait to see the video of this one.

2. Phyno Makes Abuja Crowd Forget Themselves
This is Abuja. A steel-and-concrete city of wide roads, fast cars, stern faced civil servants and government contractors in bulletproof SUVs with tinted windows; the heart and soul of the artificial new African city where nobody has time for any of that soppy human stuff. Or is it?
Enter Phyno with his spiky hair and his humorously irreverent, multi-layered Igbo rap rhymes. Would an audience filled with suit-wearing executives and their purse-lipped wives connect with this guy? As it turned out, the answer was a resounding “Yes!” Purses and bags were flung onto seats, and neckties were ripped off as the spiky-haired guy onstage began:
“Ha Men kpasa na ogbe/
Juo ese iga afu naha bu alobam, straight up/
Men mu anya , ahu adiro hu kwa akam/
Iga afu naha bu alobam, straight up”
For the next few minutes, the Transcorp hotel was treated to the gloriously bizarre sight of thousands of Abuja’s finest in their Sunday’s best grooving and shaking to the sound of “Oringo” and “Yayo”. Awesome stuff.

3. Maltina Gives Away 5 iPhone6
Just like in Lagos, event sponsors Maltina decided to go overboard with that “Sharing Happiness” stuff by giving away an iPhone6 to 5 lucky audience members. It wasn’t so much “sharing happiness” as “sharing joyful pandemonium” as five people from the audience who had a ticket with an inscription matching the quote read out onstage were rewarded with the device. Not even the Abuja poker face is a match for a free iPhone6 apparently. Who knew?

4. Star Radler Makes A Grand Entrance
Was STAR the mastermind behind the unusual jolliness of everyone present who seemed to have forgotten the Abuja stereotypes they were supposed to adhere to? A cute new drink called Star Radler was at the centre of the evening as the guests just could not have enough of it. With a distinct citrus zing and an alcohol content of just 2%, this was the perfect accompaniment to an evening of premium comedy and music with friends and family. Something tells us this delightful little drink will become very popular indeed.

5. M.I Closes The Night
Superstar rapper MI who closed the evening put on a great show as he took the crowd on a journey from ‘MI2’ to The Chairman’. Akpororo jumped onstage to perform musical harmonies alongside M.I to the amusement of the crowd.
