It is not advisable to use loperamide when treating diarrhea because loperamide inhibit gastrointestinal motility and the diarrhea may be caused by microorganisms the body is trying to flush out, hence if you administer loperamide, the drug may inhibit the gastrointestinal tract from flushing the microorganisms and its debris leading to their accumulation in the gastrointestinal tract thereby causing more harm to your pet
