FAKE MACE AND THE 5 LAWMAKERS, A FORGOTTEN INCIDENT? ON Tuesday, July 9, 2013, 5 anti Amaechi lawmakers led by Hon Bipi who was said to be a confident of Mrs patient Jonathan in the Rivers State house of Assembly reportedly brought a fake mace (symbol of legislative authority of the federal republic of Nigeria) to the rivers state house in a desperate attempt to impeach the Speaker. In the course of this unholy act, the situation lead to massive crisis which is still a subject of debate in public discuss till date. After the crisis at the house, it was also reported that, with Investigation beginning on the fracas which many say will remain indelible on the pages of the country’s political history, a summons from the police headquarters is ordering the leader of the state house of assembly Chidi Lloyd, to report to the force criminal investigation department, C.I.D. in Abuja over his role as recorded on camera and to unravel that unfortunate incident, the police today is going after the principal actors the report said. Also summoned are the police orderly to the governor, and the governor’s chief security officer Tony Iwelu. Out of all those summoned by the police, there was none from the group of 5 that caused the crisis, the anti Amaechi lawmakers that produce a fake mace and started the violence. What was suprising about the police summon which i consider a shame is the fact that, even though the police had summoned the man who was cited beating another member with the fake mace, they didn't find those who produced the fake mace (Symbol of legislative authority) worthy of summon or investigation. This is the height of hypocrisy from the Nigerian police and in my opinion, the Nigerian police has been compromised. It is worth to note that, the primary source of the crisis originated from the 5 anti Amaechi law makers that went to 1. Produced a fake mace which itself is a criminal offense 2. Extend aggressive behavior and violence against their fellow lawmakers,by beating some and forcing them out of the assembly 3. Seizing the Assembly for their unholy act 4. and claiming to have impeached the speaker. If these 5 men that commit this grave criminal offense of faking the mace were not investigated, summoned or arrested, what is the purpose of having a police force? The question that is begging for answer now remains that, Isn't it criminal in the highest sense that some 5 law makers in Rivers went to produce a fake mace, which is the symbol of legislative authority to carryout some sort of unholy activities in the house? Hon Chidi who has been rightly summoned by the police for his role in beating a fellow member to the point of coma with the fake mace was not the one who brought the mace,he collected it from other 5 members when the governor's security came. Hon Bipi and his group of 5 committed the criminality of faking the mace and no one is saying anything about it. Is it because they are the President's men? I am talking about Producing a fake Mace, which is the symbol of legislative authority,I am talking about faking the symbol of Nigerian authority. This is a criminal behaviors of the highest order. It is just like producing a fake certificate or producing fake money, but this crime is even greater, considering the fact that it is a mace, which symbolize the authority of the legislative arm of government. When i asked a friend about what he thinks about it, he said, yes, it is criminal,So, what can anybody do about it? He added that, it is like producing counterfeit money and then spending it,but the police didn't declare those who did this wanted, they left them simply because they are pro GEJ. and i ask, will these 5 criminals go Scot free? I think lawyers should be able to tell if this case is tenable in the court of law,we must first pursue it in court while pushing to ensure a legislative act make provision for it official punishment. WHO IS MARGINALIZING THE NIGER DELTA? The United States Energy Information Administration estimates that Nigeria has more than 22 billion barrels in proven reserves, with 159 oil fields and about 1,481 oil wells in operation. What rubs off as good news is that these massive oil deposits predominantly located in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region, have generated billions of dollars in revenues for the country. The flip side is that the more than five decades of commercial oil extraction in the oil-rich Niger Delta has brought oppressive levels of impoverishment, recurrent conflict, human rights abuses and despair to more than 20 million people living in the region. The concept of development as currently theorized and propagated around the world is over-laden with a plethora of buzzy catchwords such as “participation”, “inclusion”, “involvement” and so forth. What these latter-day mantras simply emphasize is that persons directly affected by any social or economic problem play vital roles both in the exploration and implementation of solutions to matters that directly bear on their welfare. Same is true of the Niger Delta, where what started as local agitations against recurrent oil pollution and social insecurity in the late 90s have snowballed into well-funded global campaigns for corporate accountability and environmental justice. Aside from the huge sacrifices they made, including arbitrary executions, the likes of Ken Saro Wiwa, Ledum Mittee, Nnimmo Bassey and a host of advocates from the oil-rich region blazed the trail, using every channel of popular expression to draw global attention to the marginalization of the Niger Delta people, and in particular, the dire environmental conditions in which locals live. Shortly afterwards, tough-talking, AK47-wielding “freedom fighters” later joined the fray, deploying every violent tactics in the books to ‘fight for their rights” and for that of their people. But that was then! Ever since President Goodluck Jonathan of Niger Delta origin mounted the saddle of leadership, thanks to a silver lining impelled by the demise of Nigeria’s former president Musa Yar Adua, the loud screams of marginalization have significantly waned. With a “son of the soil” at the helm of affairs, the gargantuan problems of the region have soothingly disappeared from the minds of both freedom fighters and a host of former campaigners. Not only that, the gains of freedom fighting pales into insignificance when compared to multi-million dollar maritime surveillance contracts that provide steady flow of cash to ex-fighters, and keep them tight-lipped for the time being. Political appointments favouring many sons and daughters of the Niger Delta into highly-coveted public offices provide additional icing on the cake of deliberate amnesia to the region’s unaddressed woes. By the way, this new regime of see-no-evil-speak-no-evil is consistent with the African proverb that “one does not talk while eating”. As of today, the whole scenario playing out in the Delta is steeped in a sour blend of comic relief and theatrical absurdities. For instance, the same actors that once used kidnapping, hostage taking, assassination and attacks on oil installations to press their demands have suddenly become ‘change agents” and advocates of “non-violence”. Part of their born-again civic duty is to attack and hush all voices of dissent, especially those objecting to the never-seen-before levels of corruption, incompetence and under-performances characterizing President Goodluck’s leadership. The saddest dimension to this trend is how the constantly-shifting dispositions of former freedom fighters is now affecting the general psyche and priorities of an average Niger Deltan, especially the most visible Niger Delta voices on the social media. It is now, very rare to find Niger Deltans participating meaningfully in any discussion focusing on oil pollution, environmental sustainability, community development, climate change and adaptability, including oil sector reforms. Within all these “uninteresting” topics lay the potential answers to the major challenges facing the Niger Delta today. This is my distasteful observation as a regular commentator on the social media who also coordinates an online discussion forum with a strong participation of diverse stakeholders and commentators from Nigerians living in different parts of the world. But should one out of genuine concern, start any conversation that touches on Goodluck Jonathan’s sorry leadership, including his wife’s never-ending excesses, the Niger Delta cyber-soldiers hastily swarm in in their numbers, cursing, abusing, attacking and questioning the critic’s impetus to do so. The critic would be lucky if his generations unborn are spared from the sea of invectives. This is the new order!!! The veiled message is simple: “Our son is the president. Our problems are now over. We are now, a truly liberated people. Oil companies are now free, like the birds of the air, to operate unhindered. Oil pollution is now the least of our problems. In fact, as long as our son remains president, we are okay!”… Nothing illustrates the present level of complacency more than the January 2012 Chevron Nigeria Limited’s oil rig fire explosion on the off-shore facility in Koluama village, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, which lasted for several weeks, causing extensive damage to the flora and the fauna, with grave implications on the ecosystem. Rather than yield to community concerns and demands for remediation, the oil giant presented consumables and other relief materials to them. Some of the items include “bags of rice, garri, beans, tubers of yam and cows, jerry-cans of groundnut oil, palm oil, frozen fish, chicken, cartons of beverages, cartons of tin tomato, bags of salt and sugar”. Beyond these perishable trivialities, the affected communities have neither been compensated nor the oil company held accountable for their wrongdoings till this day! Despite the massive environmental damage in Koluama village, there are no loud protests, no legal action against Chevron Nigeria Limited, and no sanctions slammed on the oil giant, even though a daughter of the Niger Delta is the chief regulator of the Nigerian oil and gas industry! This is beyond belief! Perhaps most telling is that just weeks after the incident, Chevron Nigeria Limited went ahead to drill a new well-head within the same community, for its gas production ventures. It must be stressed that the Niger Delta voices on the social media do not constitute a fair representation of the entire genuinely-committed community advocates, NGOs and traditional rulers working in even the hardest-to-reach creeks and locales to overturn decades of environmental and social injustices. But yet, the rapidly-fading tears of marginalization shed by the region’s most visible actors and voices continue to send out very negative signals about the real nature and scope of the struggles they once led. One such bad signal is that it portrays the people of Niger Delta as incapable of understanding and solving their own problems, contrary to the tenets of development. It further shows them as a people incapable of sustaining rational struggles amid dangling carrots and tempting apple pies. One thing is clear: the Niger Delta can no longer complain of marginalization. However, they must be reminded that self-inflicted marginalization is another form of suicide. With the generous hindsight gained from the “shrinking campaigns” and the ‘robustly blind-supportism”, it is not hard to tell where the real blames of marginalization lie. Like an Igbo proverb says, ‘the mot that eats the corn lives inside the corn”. http://victoriaohaeri./2013/07/15/who-is-marginalizing-the-niger-delta/ |

YINKA ODUMAKIN'S STATEMENT ABOUT ACN AND TINUBU, RIGHT OR WRONG? will a Buhari led Federal Government also investigate and prosecute all ACN, ANPP looters who the majority are now the generals allies?’’ Yinka Odumaki, The Spokesman to General Muhammed Buhari was reported to have said, “Between 1999 and now, I’ve related at close quarters with most actors in the Yoruba political space at close quarters and I know the weaknesses and strengths of all. “I can tell you authoritatively that the most dangerous and terrible tendency in Yoruba politics is the house of deceit that Tinubu represents. “Only those who have sold their souls will ignore this fact … There has never been any such greedy bunch in our nation- not under “Demo” or even PDP. “I took Akala before EFCC in 2010 for awarding roads at N50m per km in all the LGs in Oyo state. Today your Asiwaju is collecting N1b per km across South West. “When Tinubu turned “60″ ACN states contributed N1b for a bash, nobody tried that in Yorubaland before. “Chief Adebanjo was chairman of AD in 1999 and not one relation of his got a ticket unlike your Tinubu whose wife is a senator, son in law a Rep, Sister in law a House member in Lagos and daughter now Iyaloja via imposition . “Your grouse with the old men may be for reasons you have not stated but you know they are far more honourable than a million Bola Tinubu.” The outburst from Mr. Odumakin had provoked many considering the on-going effort to merge the major opposition parties into APC championed by CPC and ACN, especially the CPC which was quick to disconnect Odumakin from Buhari, stating that, the opinion expressed by Yinka is his personal opinion and not that of Buhari and the CPC. For now, i would hold my comment until Buhari himself give his position on the said disclaimer. If Buhari succumb to the pressure by personally dissociating himself from this truthful outburst of Odumakin, this would mean that the best is serving the weak or the truthful serving the deceitful, i.e. Odumakin who in this instance represent the truthful is even far better than his Oga in term of integrity and truthfulness. Without any doubt, Odumakin should be considered as one of the most selfless and patriotic Nigerian for having the courage despite the on-going merger between their respective parties to speak the truth even when it means putting himself in bad light before their new found ally. The question is, Why are all those we thought are reasonable suddenly turning out to be unreasonable? Why are those we thought are patriots are turning out to be unpatriotic? Why are those we assume are better turning out to be not? Don't be disappointed, they are merely showing their real and true colour. I had previously asked a question in my article titled, Why Nigerian Youths must take a stand in 2015. In it, I stated that, In my opinion, the opposition, especially the ACN and ANPP are as corrupt as the PDP. So, if some Nigerian leaders and elite can open their stinking mouth to ask Nigerians to settle for some ACN, ANPP thieves under the new APC over other PDP thieves, then what is the hope of the many illiterates? Tijani Gadani while expressing is worries about the APC said, ’’Let me agree, for the sake of argument, that General Muhammed Buhari is honest, corrupt free and even a saint. Then, why will he associate himself with Ahmed Sani Yerima, the man who introduce Political Sharia in Zamfara State as the Governor, but wouldn’t want to be tried under the same sharia for corruption? Why will Buhari associate himself with Bola Tinubu whom we all know doesn’t share the same idea with him in term of integrity? Someone whom is said to be once tagged as the most corrupt governor in Africa? I went further to state that, The truth must be told, Nigeria cannot get it right under this recycling of old and failed leaders who brought the country to this rotten state, be it with the PDP or the opposition, the earlier we realize this, the better for Nigeria. While contributing to the discussion, Yemi Odunaike, a strong admirer of General Muhammad Buhari who express disappointment with Buhari and the APC wrote,’’ Buhari before collaboration with ACN and others, I support with all passion. In his words, ’the very simple question still lingering is, will a Buhari led Federal Government also investigate and prosecute all ACN, ANPP looters who the majority are now the generals allies?’’ or I ask that, can he prevent them from further stealing and drying the federal treasury as they did to the respective states they are controlling? What Yinka Odumakin stated was the truth and nobody can claim ignorance of this fact. So, I ask, why should Yinka Odumakin drag Alao Akala, A PDP Governor to Court over awarding a kilometre of road for N50million while the claimed progressive party award the same road for N1billion to Tinubu and we expect Odumakin to sit on the same chair with these fellows claiming progressive? In his words, “I took Akala before EFCC in 2010 for awarding roads at N50m per km in all the LGs in Oyo state. Today your Asiwaju is collecting N1b per km across South West. If this is what the CPC is against, isn’t it obvious that the CPC is against truth? |

A letter to Amaechi: the Rochas/Ngige example Dear Governor Rotimi Chubuike Amaechi, This is not embattled PR appropriate... oyibo suit... guilded chair... na! I like the calm expression though In light of your recent victory may I take the liberty of referring to you as Double Governor? Maybe not? Ok I'll get on with it. Enough niceties. The happenings around you and your state recently have given me great cause for concern. In fact I was so embarrassed concerned I temporarily changed my name from Pamela Diepriye Braide to Arit Nkechi Fynelegs Babatope. Go figure. I'm not here to talk about loyalty, geography, desertion or ambition; I'm here to talk about a real opportunity for radical presentation and possible mentors. So... I recommend you ban all visitors and outside help for now and look inwards. E.g. Those Governors that were "greeted" at the Port Harcourt International airport by some boys should henceforth express their solidarity for you face to face at NGF1 or NGF 2 meetings. You really have few friends right now. I am sure you realise this. I have noticed the most repeated problem people have with you isn't really non performance but arrogance. Hmmm. This is what you must urgently address. I have good news; its "doable". Immediately consult your colleague Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State for coaching on appropriate PR to suit your embattled times. Borrow liberally from his playbook of roasting corn by the roadside, baby sitting for market women and going to schools kitted in complete uniform (shorts preferably). Pease do not try the red outfit he wore, Rochas is an expert but you can't carry it off convincingly. Stick to Khaki. Can you call Gov Rochas arrogant here? This could be you Gov Amaechi'... You may wish to consult Ex Governor Ngige (now of the Senate where I hear you are headed) and Governor Oshiomole (a better potential Rivers State visitor than the last lot) on where to purchase comrade friendly khaki outfits for the days ahead. This is the time to mingle with us. Those thirteen thousand teachers you just hired... why haven't you had a televised breakfast with them and older educationists? Akara and ogi will do. Cassava bread would be the ultimate PR touch. Those 250 schools you commissioned.... meet with the PTA's! With cameras of course. The health centres? As soon as you have an emergency or toothache like Rochas did head STRAIGHT to one of them... put the video on youtube. Dress the beds and help the nurses. Doing enemas for babies will warm the heart of even the most hardened mom. I recommend at least a one week crash course with Rochas. Also ask Ngige about how to wear hard hat and climb scaffolding of projects and appropriate embattled persona attire. Sartorial choices can strongly influence outcomes. Behold! Ngige at a commisioning in accessible khaki shorts... can you call this man arrogant? Who would believe you? Gov Ameachi please take inspiration. More recommendations Sweeping Fishing HOSTING SOCIAL MEDIA STARS TO BREAKFAST/LUNCH/DINNER TALK Football You may feel this is a soft approach that doesn't match the magnitude of your travails but again speak to Rochas. Address those allegations of arrogance with a well positioned baby on either hip at a busy market while roasting yam and see if your support base on the ground doesn't leap. Just make sure you also abolish some tax and attend at least one market leaders meeting since you don't have any daughter to make market leader to raise the cynics. I wept when I heard you struggling for the right to lead street protests. Maka why?! Roasting fish is more powerful than a million protests. With cameras please. Behold as Gov Rochas roasts corn AND holds a baby. Can you call him as pictured here arrogant? No! Gov Amaechi... e fit be you. enough said. As for those writing against you... leave them for God and remember they are very flexible people. Check what they were writing just 6 months ago and 6 months before that and put it into context. Don't waste one second replying them. How many times has Rochas ever replied critics? Like him, take to the streets with well publicized acts of what I term "every day common manness" or "womanness". Now I am done with my heartfelt advice. I wish you all the best and I have added some pictures to aid your revamp. Thank me later. Yours sincerely Pamela Diepriye Braide (Arit Nkechi Fynelegs Babatope persona temporarily in hibernation... pending) http://pdbraide..com/2013/07/a-letter-to-ameachi-rochasngige-example.html |

What Type of Person Are You on online? Are you a different person in real life to the one you project online? Asked Ross McGuiness in a London newspaper. An increasing number of us are discovering that people we know in real life behave differently online. That friend who is witty and articulate in a civilised, face-to-face conversation is the same person who foams at the mouth when on Twitter or facebook. There are even more hideous examples of this kind of behaviour. When one observes the behaviour of Nigerians on the social media he may be led to believe that the relationship of Nigerians toward one another is solely dependent on whether one is Igbo or Yoruba or Igbo, Hausa or Ijaw, Christian or Muslim. This is because almost every statement posted on Facebook or the listserves is often interpreted and analysed through ethnic or tribal prism. Many abuse members of other tribes and never have anything good to say about them. On the other hand, many people comes to the social media to show off, to lie about themselves, to start romantic relationships or to peddle influence. While we may not bother about our internet behaviour, the article in the London Metro reffered to above warns that we could be treading down a dangerous online path. According to writer Josh Taylor; our personas on social media are slowly seeping into how we act away from our laptops, tablets and mobile phones - bleeding into our everyday communications and, for the most part, that isn’t really a good thing. Many are now addicted to their iPad and blackberries and could not wean themselves away from the online media. On this addiction Taylor wrote: ‘On the surface, it is innocuous enough, but it seems to me to indicate some sort of discontent, as if we are itching for real community and a sense of belonging, but looking for it in all of the wrong places.’ These online problem gets worse than merely talking about who-said-what online. An Internet psychologist Graham Jones said: ‘There isn’t anything wrong with Twitter or Facebook as ideas – the problem is how we use them. I think online social networks have brought out the worst parts of us. They make us self-seeking and pleasure-driven. How many “likes” will my photo get? How many retweets will I get on my funny anecdote? These are things already in us, but with these online social networks we now have huge platforms to broadcast our most primal instincts.’ Taylor also believes social networks have their place but that we need to learn when to set them aside so we can have healthy relationships with those around us. Another problem relates to our behaviour in the online world. Many fails to realise there are certain etiquette that guides online behaviour. For instance, rules against the use of only capital letters because that would be "shouting"; the rule to add only people you know personally as your Facebook "friends"; the rule against using abusive words or the posting of indecent or inappropriate images. But do we really know how to behave in the online world? It is, after all, not very old. ‘People have been going down to beer parlours for centuries and the codes of behaviour are part of our social environment,’ said Jones. ‘We understand what the rules are. Whereas the kind of behaviours and the way you express your personalities on Facebook is still in its infancy and people are experimenting and trying to understand. The rules for how you display your personality in that environment haven’t yet been written. ‘People will go on to Facebook and either try to be themselves or they will try to be an aspect of themselves that they think they should be on Facebook because they don’t know what the rules are. We may often behave like monsters when it comes to social media, but many of us are sheep pretending to be wolves. ‘The interesting thing though is that people aren’t showing you who they want to be – they are showing you who they want you to think they are.’ -- Daniel Elombah |
If you are a man, you should know how jealous you get just by the single sight of your lady talking to another man. Well, picture yourself being the husband of famous hot, sexy and pretty Nollywood actress Omotola Ekeinde Jalade. Imagine the sight of your wife being cuddled and kissed on live TV shows………hmm, it really takes a strong heart to bare all of that. Famous Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, is married to a pilot, Capt Mathew Ekeinde. Omotola is a mother of four and still has the body of a teenager, she is the kind of woman, men would sell their souls just to spend a little time with her. “Does your husband get jealous when you kiss a guy in a movie?” a fan asked the actress on Twitter and her response was, “Yes, if the guy is cute.” Of course he would be jealous, even if the fellow actor was crippled, blind and dumb; i’d still be jealous oooh!!! http://www.talkofnaija.com/news/451232_omotola-ekeinde-my-hubby-gets-jealous-when-a-cute-guy-kisses-me |
