@pax,i am not against building a mosque,i am against wasting money on building a materialistic mosque for hungry people. Why not provide a means of livelihood rather than waste such fund on renovating a mosque instead of renovating the people's live? Islam is against materialism.

ISLAM AND WAR
by Abdulsalam Adewale Baba Adenike on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 2:48am ·

It is no doubt that Islam has history of wars recorded in various books of history, how do we explain this; for a religion claimed to be a religion of peace, having fought a couple of wars?!

Yes, it is definitely true, and no Muslim can deny it, but what makes Islam to fight these wars is what should be our question.

Islam is not only a religion but a complete way of life; Islam has come to control all aspect of our lives and anyone that accepts to be a Muslim must submit him/herself totally to the laws of the religion. Islam is a complete system of government, a nation and that is why it has all components of a nation; a constitution (sharia), a judicial system, a full commercial system e. t. c, just like any other nation on the surface of the Earth, and in a case where Muslims are able to establish their own nation, like Saudi Arabia, all these systems must be put in place, but in a place where the land is co-owned by Muslims and non-Muslims, Allah says: (Fear Allah as much as you are able… Q64-16). While in an Islamic nation where there are non-Muslims, they should be allowed the use of a separate laws among themselves as it was been practiced by Prophet Muhammad (saw) with the Jews that leave in Madinah during his lifetime when he allowed them to use Torah as their own constitution among themselves.

Islamic nation has every right to have her own military system; a well organized army like any other nation, because if you are to have peace, you must prepare for war. Islamic Nation presided over by Prophet Muhammad (saw) has her own army to resist any threat to its peace and sovereignty by the neighbouring nations, and whenever there is a war, Prophet Muhammad (saw) as the commander and the Head of State would say to his army: (Move in the name of Allah, and for Allah, and for the course of Allah and the way of His Prophet, don't go to extreme in fighting your enemies, don't mutilate, don't violate the rules of war, don't attack old ones, nor children or women…) Islam totally forbids attacking those that didn't raise up their weapons against us, Allah says: ( Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly. Q 60-cool.

To make sure these rules are obeyed, Islam gives the power to declare war to the head of Islamic state known as 'Imam' in the Islamic political system (not the Imam that leads Prayer in the mosque). And Islam doesn't just declare war but only when the state is forced to do so, the state fight wars in Islam, just like any other nation like the USA, UK, NIGERIA, FRANCE e. t. c, while individuals are banned, under the sharia law to declare or fight wars in their own capacity.
