Biofortified crops are simply crops with dense mineral constituents , this simply means that the mineral constituents are very high compared to its non biofortified version if even present.
The trend now should be moving towards biofortified crops most especially in the food sector because it substitute to a high degree the micro nutrient which is normally gotten through food supplementation.
Malnutrition has been the major cause of death in Nigeria and globally, mostly caused by micro nutrient deficiency , however their is hope as the Nigerian agro sector has shifted towards improved crop vatieties biofortifying several crops using conventional breeding technique . Examples of the biofortified crops include the popular Vitamin A Cassava , orange flesh sweet potatoe, zinc rice, high iron beans, etc


Note: biofortified crops has very high yield of averagely 30 tonnes per hectare , disease and drought resistant
It's starch content is very high as well so it is for other Crop varieties.
