Foreign AffairsObama Reaches For A Security Chief With Nigerian Roots by Bitterleafsoup(op): 7:42pm On Dec 17, 2015
At a time stinging anti-immigrant rhetoric is consuming a section of the American political divide, President Barack Obama extended his immigrant narrative in the American political life by picking the son of a Nigerian immigrant, Adewale “Wally” Adeyemo, 34, as his Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics.
Announcing the appointment at the White House in Washington DC, on Tuesday, President Obama said he “will be calling on Wally’s intellect, judgment and dedication as we sustain America’s global economic leadership, which reinforces our national security, and as we work with allies and partners around the world to create jobs and opportunity for all our people.”
Mr. Adeyemo’s life journey is the perfect meaning of the immigrant’s dream in the United States. It is a story of hard work, inspiration, and strict family values that came together 25 years ago when early in the morning of February 9, 1990, he was steered out of bed by his father, Joseph Adeyemo, now principal at the Terrace View Elementary School, Colton, in California.
It was a day of history. Nelson Mandela, legendary freedom fighter and later president of South Africa, was walking out from prison after 27 years in prison, and the older Adeyemo wanted his son to witness history as a source of inspiration.
“I could feel the hope Mandela inspired not only in South Africans but also in my father. Watching Nelson Mandela go from prisoner to president and start the process of bringing together a country was more than inspirational, it motivated me to imagine how I could use public service to improve the world around me” the younger Adeyemo told the U.S. Senate Committee On Banking, Housing, And Urban Affairs at a September confirmation hearings for the position of Assistant Secretary for International Markets and Development.
A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where he received his bachelor’s degree and the Yale University Law school, where he was the student–body president, Mr. Adeyemo joined the Treasury Department after law school, working alongside policymakers charged with coordinating international response to global recession.
In 2010, he joined the team charged to implement a part of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, where he worked for now Senator Elizabeth Warren as the first Chief of Staff of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Mr. Adeyemo’s appointment has lifted interest among a section of the local Nigerian community in the United States.
Baba Adam, a leader of the broad Nigerian community and college administrator, thanked President Obama for the choice of Mr. Adeyemo, describing it as ”ascension of inspiration”.
Isa Odidi, a professor, chairman and co-chief scientist at Intellipharmaceutics International Inc, in Toronto, Canada, joins him in eulogy saying, “Your [Mr. Adeyemo’s] story hopefully will help remind everyone that people of Nigerian decent in Diaspora are very, very, very capable and that we should be aggressively ‘head hunting’ these individuals.”
Toyin Dawodu, who is a managing partner at the Capital Investment Group, in California, and a family friend of the Adeyemos, commended President Obama for “his excellent choice” adding, “The sky is the limit for second and subsequent generations of Nigerian Americans in terms of contributions to our adopted country and helping our native country”.
Mr. Adeyemo spoke to a life goal defined by community and society development in his September senate nomination hearing where he remarked on how “helping to build an agency devoted to protecting consumers was deeply personal for me”.
“I grew up in the Inland Empire, a region of Southern California, where in 2010, one in every 14 homes faced foreclosure,” he said. These were not just numbers to me; they were my friends and family. I know the impact that a lost job, cut in hours, or one bad financial decision can have on the ability to stay in the home your children grew up in. I am grateful to have played a role in standing up an agency that helps consumers better understand and deal with their financial choices.”
In his new position, Mr. Adeyemo is expected to play a key role in coordinating United States response to international financial crises, working with international partners and allies to devise and implement targeted economic policies to advance and strengthen American national security and economic goals.

If so what is taking so long? Is the new President just as clueless on how to fight his war on corruption. He has been jockeying this office for 12 years he never had a plan on how to fight corruption? It sounds good when you say it, but even looking at the amount Buhari is spending on traveling is corrupt....

Nigeria has no history of punishing embezzlers. They know themselves; they are cult members. Nigeria definitely punishes anyone charged with treason, up to capital punishment. I bet Dasuki will evenctually be slapped on the wrist. That's it.

Shocked.. not really. I did get an email from Nigeria the other day asking for help to withdraw US funds by wire. But those funds were meant for basic food and medical care for Nigerians.

It doesn't take much to look up that Obama met with the new President of Nigeria who is known as a military dictator and member of a radical group. Only an article authored by a censoring Obama fan would leave out the many allegations of human rights violations that Muhammadu Buhari committed. To be a good liberal, one must think that censorship is a good idea when they censor the proper information.

Nigeria: Ex-adviser charged in $2.1 billion arms scandal
Ex-Nigerian presidential adviser pleads innocent to embezzling $2.1b, implicates former boss
Associated Press By Michelle Faul, Associated Press
1 hour ago
LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) -- Nigeria's former national security adviser pleaded innocent Monday to embezzling $2.1 billion meant to purchase arms to fight Boko Haram, and said some of the money was diverted on the then-president's order to try to get himself re-elected.

The former senior security official, Sambo Dasuki, said that part of the money — $47 million — was withdrawn from the Central Bank on then President Goodluck Jonathan's orders to pay delegates to nominate him to run for re-election as his party's candidate. Dasuki's allegation was submitted in a written statement before he was charged at the Federal High Court with 19 counts of money-laundering and criminal breach of trust connected to the disappearance of state funds.

Former finance director Shuaibu Salisu also pleaded not guilty. He allegedly told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that he collected $47 million and 5.6 million euros stuffed into 11 suitcases from the Central Bank at night and delivered it to Dasuki's home in November 2014, according to an officer at the commission. The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to reporters.

Dasuki's statement said: "The money was exchanged (by the Central Bank) at $47 million and some euros ... The money was for delegates that attended the nomination convention for the PDP (People's Democratic Party) presidential nomination. The money was paid and sent to Hon. Dudafa and ADC (aide-de-camp) for distribution on the instruction of the president." Warripamowei Dudafa, a special assistant to Jonathan, is wanted by the commission but is "now at large," according to the charge sheet.

The party conference chose Jonathan, who lost the election last March to former military dictator Muhammadu Buhari, in part because of Jonathan's failure to fight Boko Haram's Islamic uprising. On Jonathan's watch, the extremists took over a large swath of northeast Nigeria and held it for months before Nigerian and Chadian troops drove them out shortly before the elections.

Buhari has said thousands of people died because Nigerian troops were not adequately equipped to defend them from Boko Haram. Some 20,000 people have died in the extremists' 6-year-old insurgency.

In a related case, the High Court on Monday allowed bail equivalent to $1 million to media magnate Raymond Dokpesi of African Independent Television, who is accused of fraud for receiving $10.5 million from Dasuki's office — supposedly earmarked for weapons — to broadcast features favorable to Jonathan.

Dasuki, who had usurped the Ministry of Defense role in purchasing arms, has been detained by the crimes commission for more than a week despite a court order allowing him bail.

Hi guys,

Its common knowledge that the IT sector in Nigeria is expanding; but it seems, in terms of the job market, there are more vacancies for software developers than for database administrators.

Please guys working in an IT firm/sector should enlighten us, are companies not using MYSQL or SQL serverhuh?

Thanks.
If I were you I would put together a proposal as an independent contractor, especially for Government offices, NGO, and International Conglamorates and tell them you can change their lives. Most Government offices still working with paper and files. They don't even know they need you.

You are losing it bro. Port Harcourt airport was recently adjudged as one of the worst airport in the world, a federal government airport and what we are hearing is why the hell Igbos didn't upgrade it for their businesses.
Now you are comparing Lagos state with any eastern states, why not Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti.? These are places you should be comparing eastern states with, with the exception of Enugu which should be compared with Ibadan. Lagos is a former capital of Nigeria......compare it with Abuja.
